Dear Friend,

We have been through a lot in this past year and your friendship and support have meant so much to me. That is why I wanted to let you know of my decision to endorse a Democratic candidate for President - and that I have decided to support Barack Obama.

We all understand how much is at stake in this election and that it is more important than ever that we put a Democrat in the White House.

And while both of our Party's remaining candidates are extremely talented and would make excellent commanders-in-chief, I am throwing my support to the candidate who I believe will open the most eyes to our shared Democratic vision.

I'm deeply proud to be the first 2008 Democratic presidential candidate to endorse Barack Obama. He is ready to be President. And I am ready to support him - to work with him and for him and help elect him our 44th President.

Put simply, I believe Barack Obama is uniquely qualified to help us face this housing crisis, create good jobs, strengthen America's families in this 21st century global economy, unite the world against terrorism and end the war in Iraq - and perhaps most importantly, call the American people to shared service and sacrifice. In this campaign, he has drawn millions of voters into politics for the first time in their lives and shown us that we are united by so much more than that which divides us.

That is why I believe the time has come for Democrats to come together as a Party and focus on winning the general election. The stakes are too high not to.

The last seven years have been as difficult as any I can remember. More than ever, we need a President who will inspire us to take part in the political process and change our country's path.

Today, when we need it most, we are hearing a new call from Barack Obama. And I hope you, like me, will answer it in the affirmative.

Please get involved in Barack Obama's campaign now: http://action.barackobama.com/doddsupporters

Sincerely,

Chris Dodd

Dear Friend,

If I didn't see it with my own eyes on CSPAN 2, I would have never believed it.

The United States Senate passed a bill Tuesday granting retroactive immunity to telecom companies that helped spy on Americans -- without a warrant.

Pretty amazing ... Congress just sanctioned the single largest invasion of privacy in American history.

In the face of this imminent defeat, I became even more thankful for Chris Dodd's leadership throughout the campaign to move our national debate to a more thoughtful and progressive place - whether it was about ending the war, climate change, civil liberties, or many other important issues. And I wanted to do something, anything, to show my appreciation for all that he did during the campaign.

I called one of the last Presidential campaign staffers remaining to ask what I could do to help -- this time, not as a staffer, but a citizen.

He said, "Tim, honestly, I know the campaign debt is on his mind. I just wish we could take care of this for him."

So, I asked if I could send out an email to the list, one last time from me, with a simple request.

I just made a $25 contribution to help Chris Dodd retire his campaign debt. Will you join me, right now...and together, this Presidents Day Weekend, knock this out for him?

P.S. This email will be just as much a surprise to Senator Dodd as it was to you -- so please, let's make it a pleasant one and retire his debt this weekend.

Dear Friend -

No, I'm not retiring from the Senate - I'm working hard as ever, to restore the Constitution, stop that terrible FISA bill and put a Democrat in the White House.

But after our incredible journey campaigning for the Presidency, there is something that does need retiring: our debt.

My internet team tells me the campaign inbox was flooded with messages of thanks and inquiries about how you can continue to help now that the presidential campaign is over.

Today, you can help by contributing financially to our effort to retire the campaign debt.

http://www.chrisdodd.com/contribute

I've spent the past days with my wife and family, unwinding after a grueling process that changed the debate at home and abroad -- that is our legacy from the campaign.

FEC rules preclude me from using the email list to talk much about the war, the upcoming FISA fight and other issues we championed throughout the campaign, but let me assure you: our work will continue with the same commitment you have come to expect from me.

But today, can you help retire our campaign debt?

http://www.chrisdodd.com/contribute

Unfortunately, this email list and our campaign website can only exist to help retire the debt, but the good news is that I'll soon have a new site, my internet team has promised to see through what we started last October, and you'll be hearing from us soon about the next steps on FISA.

Thank you, so much, for everything.

Chris Dodd

Dear Friend,

I count the past year of campaigning for the presidency as one of the most rewarding in a career of public service.

Unfortunately, I am withdrawing from that campaign tonight.

But there is no reason to hang our heads this evening -- only the opportunity to look towards a continuation of the work we started last January: ending the Iraq War, restoring the Constitution, and putting a Democrat in the White House.

I know a lot of you came to this email list through a shared desire to return our nation to one that respects the rule of law, and I want to make one thing clear to all of you:

The fight to restore the Constitution and stop retroactive immunity does not end with my Presidential campaign. FISA will come back in a few weeks and my pledge to filibuster ANY bill that includes retroactive immunity remains operative.

You've been an invaluable ally in the battle, and I'll need you to stick by my side despite tonight's caucus results.

So, one more time, thank you for all of your efforts throughout the course of this entire Presidential campaign.

We made a real difference in shaping the debate, and we'll continue to do so in the coming days, weeks and years.

I'll never forget you, and what we've fought for, together, over the past year.

We've worked towards this day for an entire year, and now it's here.

We've led in Washington, D.C. on ending the war in Iraq and restoring the Constitution, but tonight all eyes are focused on Iowa, where caucus results will determine who gets a ticket to New Hampshire and who goes home.

Your support throughout the campaign has put us in the position to run a clean, honorable, issue-based effort that delivered results. Whatever happens tonight, that's something we can all be proud of.

The bus is rolling towards Iowa City right now, and there's a full days worth of events before returning to Des Moines for the caucus rally later this evening.

You'll hear from me later tonight.

And when we earn that ticket to New Hampshire, I hope you are ready to provide the fuel we need to hit the ground running.

Thank you, again, for all of your support throughout the campaign.

Best,

Chris Dodd

It's not that we've forgotten about you -- it's just that there's this little date with destiny we have on Thursday night: The Iowa Caucuses

As you can imagine, the vast majority of our staff has migrated to Iowa to join forces with the campaign and supporters already on-the-ground that have been getting the job done from day one.

And that's where the vast majority of our email is going to this week as well.

So, I wanted to give you a peek at what the folks in Iowa are seeing from us

Take a peek below.

Thanks!

It all comes down to this.

For about a year, the field staff has been building a "matrix" of supporters that intend to volunteer and ultimately caucus for Chris Dodd on January 3rd.

To provide a bit of inside baseball, people who intend to caucus for Dodd are given the numerical designation "1" -- those who have another preference get a "5" rating.

The goal on election day is to turn out all of your "1's" and get them to bring a few more people of like minds to the polls.

So, as the big day approaches, we're scouring all corners of Iowa to find and identify all of our "1's." If you count yourself among them (those who intend to caucus for Dodd) -- please let us know at the link below.

Can we count on you as a "1" for Dodd?

http://chrisdodd.com/caucuslookup

If you do intend on caucusing for Dodd, please consider taking the next step after letting us know.

1.) Tell us of anyone else you know who intends on caucusing for Dodd. You'll be directed to a page allowing you to do just that after you notify us of your intention to caucus for Dodd.

2.) Can you bring anyone with you to your caucus location on the 3rd? If so, let us know how many as we attempt to get a better handle of how many supporters we'll have at each location

But first, can we count on your vote for Dodd on Caucus night?

http://chrisdodd.com/caucuslookup

This is where elections are won.

On the ground.

Dear Friend,

The snow covered campaign office on Grand Avenue in Des Moines begins to buzz somewhere around seven in the morning.

A seemingly endless supply of doughnuts are brought in by staff and volunteers while the aroma of freshly brewed coffee swirls through the winding corridors of the headquarters.

This is what it's all about -- it's time to pick a President ... one with actual experience and a demonstrated ability to lead.

One last time: Can you contribute $25 to the campaign right now to help push us into the final four on January 3rd?

http://chrisdodd.com/onelasttime

We want to run a full slate of online ads so people in Iowa are exposed to Chris Dodd in non-traditional formats down the stretch.

You can make that happen.

We want to run more phone banks to help turn out likely caucus goers for our final GOTV tour that begins today.

You can make that happen.

We want to increase the ad buy on our "closing argument" piece currently running statewide.

You can make that happen with your $25 contribution right now.

Will you?

http://chrisdodd.com/onelasttime

Unless something changes dramatically, I don't think we're gonna make another contribution ask before January 3rd.

BUT! when the people of Iowa hand Chris Dodd a ticket to New Hampshire you can expect one in your inbox that night.

And when that moment comes, and we are on the verge of breaking through, please be prepared to make the biggest contribution you've made to any candidate.

We're gonna need that rocket fuel to shock the world in another state early this primary season.

Thanks again for all you do,

Friend,

My internet team tells me you were part of the effort to stop retroactive immunity yesterday.

I'm told that 506,000 emails were sent to the Senate.

That must have been what Majority Leader Reid was talking about when he said he received thousands of messages this week on immunity.

It goes to show that when you are clear about what you stand for, understand how to get things done, and have the support of well meaning Americans, you can get results for the American people.

As soon as I got home last night, I recorded a short video about our collaborative effort, and a little insight as to how far I would have gone.

Take a look.

http://chrisdodd.com/victory

While we won a major battle yesterday to prevent the further erosion of the Constitution, there is still work to be done.

When the Senate gets back from the holiday recess, we'll take up the FISA bill again. And I am prepared to go to the mat once more to protect the Constitution.

But we shouldn't wait until then. We have a window right now to lobby your representatives to stand up to George Bush, and drop immunity from the bill before it is brought back up.

There's more in the video I recorded last night, so please take a look and share it with your friends.

http://chrisdodd.com/victory

Finally, among the thousands of messages we've received, a lot of people have asked how they can help the campaign in these closing weeks.

Contributing to the campaign will enable us to bring on more staff to reach deep into Iowa, spreading our message of real leadership that will end the war in Iraq, and restore the Constitution.

You can watch the video and contribute here.

http://chrisdodd.com/victory

Happy holidays, and know that stopping this bill is the best gift we could have given the country yesterday.

Dear Friend,

Majority Leader Harry Reid just pulled the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act from the floor of the Senate, only moments ago.

What does this mean?

Well, first, it will come back up again in January after the recess. We'll continue the fight against ANY bill that includes retroactive immunity.

As Chris Dodd just said on the floor, "If it's not [stripped], I'll be back here engaging in this very same effort."

Second, this is what leadership that delivers results look like. It's been a while, but you saw it on display all day on the floor of the Senate.

A leader who stands on principle. And a leader who can turn that principle into results.

Finally, this is evidence of what grassroots advocacy along with real leadership can accomplish.

We'll keep up the fight in the White House, and I'm sure you'll be there right by Chris Dodd's side the entire way.

We'll have updates all night at ChrisDodd.com if you want to drop by and share your thoughts or send a message to Senator Dodd.

Dear Friend,

It's pretty amazing when you think about it...

Countless bad bills and threats of Republican filibusters, and the first one of the new majority will be carried out by a Democrat in defense of the Constitution.

Make no mistake about it, if the Senate passes retroactive immunity for telecommunications companies, it is approving the further shredding of our Constitution, and making a mockery of the rule of law.

And the sad thing is, it probably will pass.

That's why Chris Dodd has pledged to filibuster the bill, an effort that will begin later today.

Please sign-up at the link below and stand with Chris Dodd as he stands for all of us on the floor of the Senate.

http://chrisdodd.com/standwithdodd

The time for talk is over (unless you're Chris Dodd, for whom it's just beginning), and only action counts now.

No more press releases about how bad retroactive immunity is.

We're going to need all hands on deck voting to find 41 votes against retroactive immunity in the Senate.

And Chris Dodd will buy us the time to get there as he is prepared to filibuster later today.

Will you stand with Dodd as he stands with us to defend the Constitution?

http://chrisdodd.com/standwithdodd

Democrats were elected to stand up to the President, end the war and restore the Constitution.

Enough is enough.

Dear Friend,

Today, that FISA fight we've all been waiting for begins -- and it's time to separate the leaders from the capitulators.

In a few hours, Majority Leader Harry Reid will ask for something called a "motion to proceed" on FISA, effectively disregarding Chris Dodd's "hold" on the bill.

It's unfortunate that he chose to go this route, to introduce a bill including retroactive immunity when another route could have been chosen just as easily.

So ... that means Chris Dodd will start by introducing an amendment to strip retroactive immunity out of the bill.

But if that doesn't work, he will do all he can to stop this bill that threatens our security, and that may include a "filibuster."

Remember when this all started playing out? A lot of people rushed to send out strongly worded press releases about how committed they were to "supporting a filibuster."

They'll have a chance to show they are true to their word.

Call or email the Senators that pledged their opposition to this bill to support the Dodd Amendment and a filibuster if necessary. And ask them to be there with Dodd when it counts.

You don't demonstrate leadership in the footnotes of a press release, or parroting responses from focus groups.

Leadership is demonstrated through action.

Dear Friend,

Whenever someone asks me what I think the most important website in 2008 Presidential Primary is, my answer often surprises them.

No, it's not YouTube, MySpace or Facebook.

I don't even think it's ChrisDodd.com or any of the candidate sites.

In my mind, it's Google.

This morning, Senator Dodd is speaking at the Google HQ in Mountain View, California and we'll be carrying the Q&A live on our website.

The show starts at 1:30 Eastern, and you can watch it here.

http://www.chrisdodd.com/google

Think about all the ways the simple-looking search engine impacts your life.

From "googling" yourself (we've all done it), looking up a doctor, searching for jobs, or perspective employers looking for information about you.

Not only that, but what happens when the government asks Google to hand over information about user searches without a warrant -- much like they did with AT&T, Verizon and Qwest?

Today's discussion at Google should include a good mix of tech policy and privacy.

I hope you'll tune in at 1:30 Eastern at the link below.

http://www.chrisdodd.com/google

I'm going to email you again later this week with more about the importance of Google in this election, and how you can help.

Thousands upon thousands of people a day use Google to search for information about the candidates running for President.

What shows up at first glance when the query is returned could mean the difference between support, or rejection.

I hope you'll be able to help us with that.

But first, please be sure to tune in at ChrisDodd.com today to watch the Q&A at Google, live.

Dear Friend,

For months I've filled your email box with two types of messages: What Chris Dodd is up to on the trail, and how you can meaningfully support those efforts.

But lest you think it's just us talking at you, we get all kinds of responses and do our best to read each and every one of them.

Like this one from Donald of Newbury, NH who also included a $25 contribution:

"Thank you Senator Dodd for your promise to keep amnesty for the telecoms from becoming part of the law. Your demonstrated courage to walk the walk has convinced me that you are the candidate of my choice."

We're entering the final month of a long campaign, and you can show your support for Chris Dodd right now.

Please contribute $25 to the campaign and attach a note to the Senator in the comment box -- we'll highlight many of them on the homepage as we get 'em.

http://www.chrisdodd.com/saywhat

Here are a few more messages from supporters.

    * Steven from Chandler, AZ writes, "Thanks for standing up for our Constitution."
    * Vincent from Burbank, CA adds, "Good luck in Iowa. I hope that you surprise everyone and win."
    * Janice from Germantown, TN included the following message with her $25 contribution, "We need an electable candidate that supports the constitution. Chris Dodd can do that."

Add your name to theirs and we'll feature it on our home page.

Contribute $25 right now and help us close the deal in Iowa on January 3 -- less than a month away.

http://www.chrisdodd.com/saywhat

Before I get back to it today, I'll leave you with a few more messages.

They are far more eloquent and inspirational than anything I've included in one of these emails so far.

Thanks again for everything, and keep the comments coming.

Tim,

I made a few small changes to your email draft -- you'll see them below.

Would have sent to the entire list myself, but I could only figure out how
to send this test.

I know you're concerned about sending another fundraising email, but we're
only $40,000 short of hitting our November goal, and that money will help
keep us on the air and talking about ending the war in Iraq and the
Constitution. And honestly, our supporters online are so terrific and have
come through for us every time.

Plus, with votes on the war and retroactive immunity coming up, our
leadership will help keep the pressure on other presidentials to keep their
word.

Ask people to give at this link so we can track the goal publicly.

Dear Friend,

Think about it for a second. Do you truly know what you'll get from the
other candidates if they win the nomination?

*If you really want the answer to that question, don't ask a person where
they are going -- ask them where they have been.*

Why do some candidates spend as much time apologizing for a career full of
bad votes as they do talking about how they'll remedy the fallout if
elected?

Why can't we get the simplest of answers to the straight questions from
others?

And why do some just flat out skip the tough votes?

*From authoring the Family and Medical Leave Act to his often single-handed
efforts to restore the Constitution, you know what to expect from a Dodd
Administration.*

We set a goal about a week and a half ago to raise $100,000 online and we'll
need your help right now if we're going to meet it.

Please get us there by contributing $25 right now.

http://chrisdodd.com/goal

Thirty-four days.

If you feel strongly about our fight to end the war in Iraq, prevent war
with Iran, and restore the Constitution, we need your support right now.

Our field operation is humming along and *our current "Restoring the
Constitution and Rule of Law tour" is drawing larger crowds than we've seen
at any point in the campaign.*

But we need your help to keep it going.

Thirty-four days.

Your contribution right now will ensure we have the resources necessary to
continue the fight through January 3rd.

You've come through for us every time.

Not much time left.

Let's get it done.

Bankruptcy Reform

Dear Friend,

Here's another issue that separates Chris Dodd from the rest of the Democratic field.

Bankruptcy reform.

John Edwards never met a bankruptcy "reform" bill he didn't like while he was in the Senate.

Joe Biden was a key supporter of the horrible bankruptcy "reform" bills in 2000, 2001, and 2005.

And Hillary Clinton supported the 2001 version of the so-called "reform" bill.

Indeed, Chris Dodd is the ONLY Presidential candidate in the Senate to repeatedly vote against bankruptcy legislation that failed to protect children and families.

And consistent with Senator Dodd's leadership throughout this race, he is introducing a bill to help American families feeling an economic squeeze that's costing them their homes and driving them towards bankruptcy.

Read Senator Dodd's fair and practical Bankruptcy Reform Plan and pass it along to your friends.

http://chrisdodd.com/issues/bankruptcy

To protect the middle class from laws written by special interests, for special interests ...

To make it easier for families in economic crisis to get back on their feet ...

To ensure that people are not punished for suffering medical catastrophes ...

Not only does Dodd have a plan to make bankruptcy law work for Americans, he's not going to wait until January of 2009 to act on it.

We're relying on you to pass along the news to your family and friends.

http://chrisdodd.com/issues/bankruptcy

Voting records ... matter.

Leadership ... matters.

Results ... matter.

With your help, we're gonna get this done.

Dear Friend,

If you're a fan of boxing (and I am), you're undoubtedly familiar with the phrase, "The Championship Rounds."

Those are the final two rounds in a title match -- the rounds courage and desire carry a fighter to the final bell. And if they have executed their game plan throughout the match, it ends in victory.

After ten grueling months setting up a first-rate field operation throughout Iowa, earning endorsements, talking with voters and running ads, that's where we find ourselves today: The Championship Rounds.

But it's your determination and desire that will put us over the top when that final bell sounds in Iowa on January 3rd.

We've set a goal of raising $100,000 online by the end of November.

Your contribution will help make sure we're the ones standing when the final bell sounds.

http://chrisdodd.com/championship

I often find myself thinking of the parallels between our effort and an often overlooked fighter named Tony Zale.

Zale was a blue collar boxer who had a reputation for taking brutal punishment throughout a fight, but wore his opponent down with solid body punches before rallying to win.

He was a champion who stuck with his strategy and defeated superstars -- like Rocky Graziano -- and so will we:

We've led on restoring the Constitution and ending the war in Iraq while building a fundamentally sound field operation, earning top-notch endorsements, and rallying volunteers for the final push.

People in Iowa are beginning to understand that Chris Dodd is the candidate that can deliver results for the country.

We're in a position where you can put us over the top with your contribution.

Hey,

I am about to hop on a plane back to D.C. from last night's debate, but I'd be remiss if I didn't take a moment to thank you first.

This retroactive immunity fight, and yesterday's result, were different than most we've had since our party took control of Congress. Not because we won one, but because of the unprecedented cooperation with the grassroots.

We didn't allow the Bush Administration to shape a false debate -- security vs. Constitutional rights -- both nationally and within our own caucus.

It took the kind of leadership and action delivering results that is easy to talk about, but increasingly hard to find.

And with your help, that's the leadership you'll have in the White House.

Your contribution will help us do the things we need on the ground to get us there. January 3 is getting real close.

Please make a contribution now.

Thank you again,

Chris

> Forgive me if some of this is in the weeds, I'll try and make the parliamentary process as painless as possible.
>

>
> 2. This means the Judiciary bill moves to the full Senate WITHOUT the dangerous language included.
>
>
> 3. Retroactive immunity will, however, surely be introduced as an amendment to the FISA bill.
>
> 4. If needed Senator Dodd will filibuster any amendment seeking to add retroactive immunity to the underlying bill. By filibustering, he will force the opposition to find 60 votes to pass the provision.
>
> It will be a lot more difficult for those who would enable the erosion of our Constitution to find the 60 votes necessary to stop immunity on its own than it would be for us to find the 40 needed to sustain a filibuster of the bill as a whole if it included immunity.
>
> Today is a great victory for all of us -- and another example of Chris Dodd's leadership.
>
> If it wasn't for our efforts, together, retroactive immunity would be well on its way to sailing through the Senate ... largely unnoticed.
