Meet Lauren, mom and owner of new online selling boutique, The Monogram Swap!

Lauren lives outside Charlotte, NC with her husband, 16-month-old daughter and her "very lazy bassett hound".

She is a woman on a mission with an amazing idea:

She wants all of our children's precious monogrammed clothing (that no longer fits) to find a good home and to help us make a little money along the way.

Lauren writes, "Monogrammed clothing is timeless. Unfortunately, children aren't. After having four girls, my sister-in-law had closets full of monogrammed clothing, but no one to wear them. Having a relatively uncommon last name, there weren't exactly people lined up to take her "V" clothing."

"This is where I came in to the story. In June of 2008, I had a little girl and that collection of "V" clothing was welcomed into my house. As I explained to my husband how much money I was saving him, I decided I should make this possible for other moms."

In 2009, The Monogram Swap was launched as a way for moms to buy and sell personalized items. Whether you're cleaning out closets or shopping for a birthday outfit, this should be your first stop. Find 3-initial monograms, initials and embroidered names.

There is usually a 50-cent per item listing fee, but all listings are free until December 1st.
The Monogram Swap is similar to Ebay in its format: The seller creates an account, uploads photos, writes a brief description, and sets their price. When your item is sold, the seller ships the item and gets paid.

This weekend in-between breakfast, house cleaning, laundry, a soccer game, raking leaves, walking the dog, bathtime and dinner, my two little girls and I will be making Christmas cards for Noah.

I Made the Cat Sweater, Oh Yes I Did

My 5-year-old daughter wanted to be Miley from the TV show for Halloween.

She wanted to wear a pink jacket and leggings or a velour jogging suit. Neither screamed, "I am Miley from the TV show" to me.

So she picked an episode. Or maybe I nudged a little bit. See the short video clip above for our "inspiration"! :)

Why was I so bent on cutting up a stuffed animal into pieces and re-sewing its head and tail on to a pink sweater? (And why do I secretly wish I could do that every day?!)

Make-your-own Miley cat sweater (you know you want to):

Buy, Find, Re-purpose a pink sweater (ours was $1.99)

Search every aisle at the dollar store for a stuffed cat. Settle on a white bear with promise. Yep, head can be made into a kitty face and yep, one leg can become a kitty tail (for the back of your sweater)

Run home and get started- try not to let your children see you smiling while you cut up the bear.

First cut off the bear's head.

Next cut up the middle of the bears body to make a longer "leg".

Cut off the leg - this will be the tail.

Sew up the side seam of the leg where you cut it.

Place the teddy head in the middle of your sweater.

Shove it under your sewing machine and satin stitch across the base, sewing to the sweater and stitching up the hole you made so the stuffing won't come out at the same time.

Bear head will flop down so add a few more stitches on each ear, then at top of head if needed.

Next position the tail/leg in the middle of the back of the sweater and sew it on too.

Grab some felt to turn your bear face into a kitty cat face (think triangles and some whiskers)

Show your daughter and see a BIG smile (yea! she is excited about her costume!)

Add leggings and Wal-Mart boots to complete "the look"

Wait 364 more days until you can cut up dollar store stuffed animals again without people thinking you are crazy. :)

I'm trying to find a photo of her back - but yes, the tail is on there! :)

I'm taking my two little girls to "dinner and a movie" tonight at our friend's church. They are playing our favorite Halloween movie, "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" in the gym. I think they are even bringing in inflatables! Did I ever tell you that my 5-year-old broke her clavicle bouncing off one of those inflatable slides? Oh dear....

Keeping up with my business, blogs and my two little girls' activities (and playing with them after school) has really thrown me for a loop this month. How are we supposed to get everything done? Not to mention cleaning and cooking and household chores. I keep re-reading the Proverbs 31 Bible verse and thinking, "Wow! How did she do all that?" It is something to work toward. I think the first step for me is NOT to watch my television shows on Bravo or SoapNet at night, I know, I know....

So, how do you get it all done? How do you balance shipping your customer's orders, answering e-mails, picking up the kids from school, doing laundry, making meals and squeezing in time for a shower (oh, and baths for the girls too!)?

Your continued prayers for Emily are needed. From Cincinnati Children's Hospital her parents write,

"Emily started a salvage high dose chemo on 10/15 with two cycles before going into her bone marrow transplant. Doctor hopes to transplant her within 8 weeks, as long as the donor pulls through. So many kids here don't have a matching donor. We thank all of you who offered to be tested to be a match and I urge you to act if called upon, as someone's life is depending on it. Since our two weeks here, Emily's lymphoma has already spread into her pelvis, femur and spinal cord and brain. We will not lose our faith that this next round of chemo will help to melt away her cancer so she can have a transplant. Please pray that Emily's donor will come through and a transplant will happen for her."

Emily is not allowed visitors, only mail - so our gifts will be arriving at the perfect time.

This fabulous framed pumpkin decor by The Happy Homebody is so cute! I love me some gingham check scrapbook paper...I think all this craft needs for my house is a black polka dot ribbon bow tied around the stem! See? Just add polka dots! :)

Here is another dollar store pumpkin craft by 320 Sycamore. The halved $1 pumpkin is tied with a gingham check ribbon and glued right to the plate! I love it. All I would add? A polka dot plate OR a polka dot ribbon! :)

Isaiah 43:1 Project for Emily

Emily's parents write, "We are now at Cincinnati Children's Hospital and we are getting acclimated to this new facility. Emily was brought by The Waterford Fire Department Ambulance on Friday from Ann Arbor to Cincinnati. She is currently in good spirits and is decorating her new room. The doctors here are working on a new plan for Emily and we are in search of a Bone Marrow Donor."

Prayers 4 Emily Schmidt

Meet sweet Emily Schmidt.

I wish I didn't have to write this. Oh dear, the tears are starting to flow now.

Emily is the 7-year-old daughter of Craig and Melissa Schmidt. Craig and my husband have been best friends since they were little guys running around Lake Sherwood in Commerce Township, Michigan. Her mom Melissa is the kindest, most giving person you'll ever meet. Emily has an older brother, Hunter.

My daughter Mia just LOVES Emily. Emily is everyone's friend, a gracious hostess and always with a smile and a hug for you.

This summer, Emily was admitted to University of Michigan hospital. Her parents thought she had a really bad case of mono. After many tests, doctors diagnosed Emily with Stage 3 non-Hodgkins Lymphoma (most common in adults) as well as HLH, a rare cell disease.

During her first month at this hospital, Emily experienced many complications due to the Epstein Barr (mono) virus and her chemotherapy including heart failure, pneumonia, BK virus, psoriasis, mouth and throat ulcers and infection, teeth abcesses and more. She returned home for two weeks, then returned to U of M for another round of chemotherapy.

Her home church has arranged a bone marrow drive and fundraisers for the family. Craig and Melissa's friends and family have organized two benefit events for Emily. Sadly, she was not able to attend either due to being re-admitted to the hospital each time.

Today, Emily is being transported via ambulance to Cincinnati Children's Hospital (donated) because of her rare diseases and new discovery of cancerous cells on her lungs, spine, spleen, kidneys and liver. The next course of action is a Bone Marrow Transplant.

Her family cannot say enough about Emily's strength. They are amazed at her courage. When asked how she feels about all of this Emily says, "Well, I just try to be good, and hope it's over soon."

Fabric for a Polka Dot Mom's Kitchen

Did you know this "Morning Call" polka dot rooster fabric existed? It is over-the-top fabulous! I just ordered a yard for my kitchen valance because I just want to see this fabric every morning and every evening while I'm washing the dishes. Isn't it the cutest? (Or do you hate it?)

Favorite Blogs - Reluctant Entertainer

This is me, a "reluctant entertainer". I love to plan parties and have people over, but often the stress (or thought) of getting ready for company stops me from inviting friends over for dinner.

I run a business from home. We have two little girls (and a new dog). We just moved to Alabama. There are boxes stacked up to the ceiling in my hallway and bedroom (can't believe I just told you that). My girls' art projects and ongoing games are ALWAYS out. There are baskets of laundry to be put away in EVERY room. Oh, but I love to plan parties....

It's time to invite my neighbors over for dinner. They have brought us brownies and cupcakes and invited us for dinner too. It's my turn. So thank goodness I have Sandy's Reluctant Entertainer blog to turn to when I start to hyper-ventilate over the mess in my house. :)

Get the recipe for Chicken Chili I used last Halloween to entertain our old neighborhood friends after trick-or-treating. I used the crock pot and it was a wonderfully casual and FUN evening with friends. Well worth cleaning the house (but Sandy says it's okay to have dishes in the sink).

Taking a Little Break

I wish I could go hide inside this beautiful house and then sit on the front porch for hours in a comfy rocking chair.

I was about to add one more project to my plate. But today is not the day. I need some time to sort out my self, family, home and business. It is tough keeping all of the balls we are juggling up in the air, as you know.

This was not planned, but I need to take a little time away from Polka Dot Mom.
