MINNFINN IS HERE!

For months, koi keepers have been hearing about a revolutionary new product called MinnFinn. Those who were able to get and try it were excited about the results they were getting when treating parasites, ich, bacterial issues and fungal problems. This product, they said, was remarkable. MinnFinn is biodegradeable, safe for the user, safe for the fish and safe for the environment.

What makes MinnFinn so special is the fact that the treatment time is only one hour. It comes with a second product called NeuFinn which instantly reverses the treatment. The downside to the original MinnFinn Max was is had to be shipped Hazmat, because the amount of the active ingredients it contained made it unstable for shipment. So the manufacturers went to work on a second, lower strength version of the product and MinnFinn regular strength was born. This product is safe to ship by any means.

The original product, MinnFinn Max treats 8,000 gallons and the regular strength product treats 2,240 gallons. The price for the Max is $110 and the regular strength sells for $65. I only stock the regular srength because I do not have the means to ship Hazmat.

Shopping on the internet is so easy. You can shop any hour of the day or night that fits your particular situation. Shipping, on the other hand, is NOT quite as easy. My business, PONDRX.COM is located in Blue Ridge, Ga, which is in the Eastern Time Zone. I make every effort to ship all orders on the day I receive them. UPS arrives at my location to pick up my packages between 3:15 and 3:45PM. I can usually get an order processed, packaged, labeled and shipped if I get the order no later than 3:00PM EST.

Now, here is the tricky part. UPS counts only normal working days as shipping days, so an order that is placed on Friday after 3:00PM does not get shipped until Monday afternoon. A Next Day Air order placed at 5 PM Eastern time, will not ship until the next working day. And the package will be delivered one day after that. Placing an order on Saturday or Sunday is the same as placing an order on Monday.

The place to be on March 13th, 14th and 15th is the Central Florida Koi Show. This year, as in the past, the show will be held at the Holiday Inn Resort, located at 6515 International Drive in Orlando. The resort is simply beautiful. This event is an indoor-outdoor event. Outdoors there is a huge tent, set up in the parking lot. In the tent is an array of show tanks, holding Koi entered for judging. This is a sight to behold! There are also a select few vendors set up in this area.

The indoor portion of the show is set up in the atrium. Here is where most of the vendors are located. You will be able to purchase almost anything you can think of relating the the Koi keeping hobby. You can buy fish, filtration systems, fish food, fish medications, and water conditioners. You can even purchase koi related art.

Spring is Coming!

Here it is the first week of February and most of the country is experiencing mid-winter-like weather. There are freezing temperatures as far south as Florida. But within six weeks or so, spring will be here and we need to be thinking about our ponds. Early spring is a time to prepare our ponds for the coming season by cleaning out all of the debris that gathers over the winter. Over the past several months, there have been several websites selling praziquantel at extremely low pricing. Some of the Prazi offered was of questionable quality. It seems that someone was importing many kilos of Prazi from Asia and selling it to anyone who wanted it. 2008 Buzzword: CHANGE

The elections are finally over. Both of the presidential candidates preached the same message to the American people...CHANGE is needed. Whether you voted Republican or Democrat, you were hoping that the incoming administration would bring change in the way Washington, D.C. conducts business. We will, indeed, have changes in the players. Let us hope that the change leads to a stronger economy and a better life for us all.

Pondrx.com is also instituting some changes. For years, my philosophy has been to buy product in small quantities and replace my inventory as it sells. The wisdom here is that you do not have a lot of capital invested in inventory at any one time. Sales drives the purchasing and you do not buy more unless your inventory level drops below a certain level. This sounds good but there is one major flaw in this type of system. The flaw is that you are not offered price breaks that are available for larger purchases. On top of that, the freight factor decreases with larger shipments. What all of this means is that because I typically pay more for the product and the freight to get in my warehouse than some of my competition, my pricing has been higher on some items.

I am now in the process of consolidating my purchasing. This should allow me to significantly reduce the prices on several of my products. I will, however, pay very close attention to the products that have expiration dates to be sure that I am selling only fresh stock. That will never CHANGE!

A year ago, I felt the need to add a water conditioner to my product line that would also detoxify ammonia. After speaking to several sources, including customers, I felt that I should choose Ultimate. A couple of my customers had asked for it by name. When I began looking to purchase it wholesale, I asked one of my suppliers if he carried the product and he told me that he had one that was "just as good as Ultimate" but at a lower price. 2008 Thanksgiving Week Shipping Schedule

UPS has announced their 2008 Thanksgiving Week Schedule. How does this effect Pondrx.com and our customers? Simply stated, we are at the mercy of UPS as to when they will make pick ups and when they will make deliveries. If you are ordering products because your fish are having specific problems, I will do everything I can, including using alternate means of shipment, to assure your products arrive in a timely fashion. If you are purchasing just in case, we will let the delivery gods have their way.

Thanksgiving Week Schedule:

Tues Nov 25th: Normal pick up and delivery. 2nd Day Air packages picked up this day will be delivered on Friday Nov 28th.

Wed Nov 26th: Normal pick up and delivery service. Next Day Air packages picked up today will be delivered on Friday Nov 28th. 2nd day Air packages picked up today will be delivered Monday Dec 1 (except those processed and labeled for Saturday Nov 29th delivery at an additional fee of $15)

Thu Nov 27th: No pick ups or deliveries

Fri Nov 29th: No pick ups. Delivery of Air Service packages only.

Atlanta Koi and Goldfish Show

Here it is September and time for the annual Atlanta Koi and Goldfish Show. Once again, the show is being hosted by Bill Dowden at his Coastal Pond Supply warehouse in Tucker, Ga., an Atlanta suburb. This year's show promises to be a top notch event, beginning Friday, September 19 and continuing through Sunday, September 21. There will be many vendors showing and selling their wares, including Pondrx.com. There will also be a large group of fantastic koi on display for judging. The show is open to the public, free of charge from 9AM to 5PM on Saturday and Sunday 9AM until 2pm.

Spring at last!

Now that spring has officially arrived, it is time to start paying closer attention to our ponds and our koi. As the temperature begins to mellow out, it is a good idea to do some preparation of the pond environment for the active seasons to follow. This should include cleaning out the organic buildup in the pond from uneaten food, fish wastes and decaying leaves. It is also a smart idea to add some pond conditioner, such as Koizyme, to boost your beneficial bacteria.

Although it may not be necessary in all situations, many koikeepers will do a routine praziquantel treatment in the spring to ensure that their koi will not be attacked by a fluke infestation.

Just keep in mind that feeding should NOT be resumed until the water temperatures reach and remain at 58 degrees and above, unless you are feeding a "Cool Season" food containing a high concentration of wheat germ.

Pond Building Resumes in Georgia

Earlier this month, officials of Georgia's Water Management Department gave the 'ok' for koi pond builders to once again build and fill FISH ponds in the state of Georgia. A ban was imposed in the fall of 2007, due to the severe drought conditions throughout the state. Although water is still below recommended levels, we have had a faily wet winter. The ban still applies to other water features, such as ornamental ponds.

The drought was so bad this year that several commercial nurseries went bankrupt because without the ability to keep their plants watered, their stock withered. Homeowners were under watering restrictions also, so buying and planting shrubs and trees was out of the question. It will most likely take several years before the nursery business to recovers.

The drought also hurt koi dealers. They were left holding their stock of fish that would in normal conditions have been sold. Koi keepers did not want to add fish to their ponds because they could not do regular water changes that are necessary in order to promote good koi health.

It will be here before you know it...The Central Florida Koi Show will be held at the Holiday Inn Resort on International Drive in Orlando, Florida March 7-9, 2008! I will have a booth in the atrium this year and honestly hope to meet many of my friends and customers there. This year, I am going to let my other customers who can not attend take advantage of my "Show Specials".

How can you order online and still get the show special pricing? Well, beginning February 28th, I will post coupon codes in my blog that you can enter at the appropriate place in the shopping cart. Each item will have a separate code. By entering that code in the cart, the customer will be charged the special price for the product. This can amount to significant savings, especially if you are stocking up for the spring/summer season.

I will run the specials on the website for the week prior to the show through the week after the show, giving you three weeks to take advantage of the sale. This is a pretty sweet deal. I hope everyone who reads my blog will take advantage of the great pricing.

Just remember, if you don't enter the coupon code, yhou will be charged my regularly published price. No dealers, please. I will be glad to negotiate a fair price with dealers over the telephone for quantity orders.

Shipping Information

In order to serve my customers in the best, most efficient way possible, I use UPS almost exclusively. The most obvious exceptions would be for shipping potassium permanganate, which I ship U S Postal Service. There are some rare times when I might have a supplier drop-ship an order for me and that will be shipped via the supplier's chosen means. And of course, there is the issue of shipping to Canada. I am finding that using UPS to do this is becoming more hassle for the customer than I want them to go through, thus I will use the post office for those shipments also.

Below are some tips that I feel will be helpful to you in making your choosing your shipping option.

*If you have a sick fish and need your products FAST, don't choose ground service.

*If you choose 3 Day Select on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday, It will arrive next week. (UPS does not count weekends as shipping days.)

*Next Day Air sent on Friday, will arrive on Monday; 2nd Day Air sent on Thursday will arrive on Monday.

*Generally, orders placed before 3PM Eastern Time will ship the same day. Orders I receive after 3pm Eastern Time will ship the next SHIPPING day (A 5PM order on Friday will not ship until Monday)

*If you are desperate and need Saturday delivery, you need to call me at the office (706 374 3037) during business hours so we can put together a shipping plan. I can ship on Thursday or Friday for Saturday delivery but it will cost you an extra $15 on top of UPS's already high rate for Next Day Air or 2nd Day Air Service. It can't go through the shopping cart because there is no accomodation for Saturday service in the cart.

*UPS picks up at my location at 4PM and I need to have time to process and pack your order for shipment. Calling in at 4:05pm won't make it on the truck!

*All orders are prepaid by credit card. Please don't ask me to ship your order and you will send me a check. I like to think that everyone is honest, however I have been burned more than once.
