i felt a slight sniffle in my nose at the last few sentences.

my maternal grandpa passed away when i was 4 and till this day (i am now 26), i wish he'd lived much longer so i could get to know the great person that he was.

i will cherish my grandmother (i.e. his wife) so much more after reading this. and i have you to thank for that.

I could never handle farewells, permanent or otherwise. I remembered my own tears and mind-warp when my own ah gong pass away.

I am sorry for your loss, and while time might make you handle it better, I understand that it's a space that can't be filled. hugs

My condolences.

My paternal grandfather died even before I was born and the maternal one died when I was in University. I am not close to my grandparents (on both sides) but I do understand the pain of not being there to say goodbye.

Hugs babe. It's never easy to lose someone you know your whole life. From the pictures, your Ah Gong looks like a chilled out person who can be anybody's friend. I'm glad that you have that part of him in you. :)

Never knew my grandfathers, they were all dead before I was adopted. Don't know about the real ones though. My grandmother went then my father, now my other grandmother is reaching her limit, so it's about time. Been to so many funerals and it's true, there's always chicken curry.

Ah gong died when I was 6. I was his first grandchild, and the grandson from his eldest son. He doted me the most, and was strictest with me. If he'd lived longer, I'd have had two fathers.
