Conan O’Brien got renewed!

Cable network TBS has announced plans to extend the run of their late night offering, Conan (with Conan O’Brien) for another two seasons. This news isn’t unsurprising, what with ratings for Conan slumping heavily following a good lead in November 2010 when O’Brien made the move from NBC. It seems the network is more heavily investing in probable progress rather than exact performance, as evidenced by George Lopez getting the ax after a similarly disappointing run. The ratings have been rising though, if not slowly, but rising just the same. Some are attributing the increase to Conan now following reruns of The Big Bang Theory, others to Conan’s obvious popularity, but either way, Conan will need more than a slight increase in viewership to get yet another extension in two years time.

Because we will never get tired of watching Courtney Stodden try, and subsequently fail harder than anyone has ever failed, to be sexy, here’s a story about how Courtney invited photographers to take pictures of her closet, which is full of clothes that would make the most tired, over-the-hill stripper shake her head and go “trashy fucking bitch”. It’s been kind of a slow news week, so here’s a bit about how Jennifer Aniston got a completely meaningless award in order to promote her new movie Wanderlust. Oh, and did we mention she gets naked in her new movie? Because she really wants your fifteen bucks. The National Post reports:

Actress Jennifer Aniston was honored with a star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame on Wednesday, the first of the Friends actors to receive the emblem of celebrity that she described as “surreal.”

“I was born in Sherman Oaks, California. I am a California girl through and through, and I’m sure this has always just sort of been in the back of my mind,” said Aniston at the ceremony.

“It probably wasn’t even a dream, it was one of my wildest dreams. I don’t think that I ever even thought that this would be here, this day. So I am utterly humbled and grateful,” the Friends actress told her fans and friends.

Yeah, it’s surreal in the way that we’re pretending that paying thousands of dollars for an award is some sort of feat of celebrity. Seriously, Jen has been a celebrity for almost twenty years, why are we going to pretend that the fact that she (and a movie studio) can fork over a couple thousand for a star is some sort of huge event?

Snooki was banned from a wine shop!

Because nothing bad has ever happened from publicly banning a Jersey Shore star from using your product — unless you count that time Abercrombie & Fitch tried to keep their douchewear off of doucheking Mike ‘The Situation’ Sorrentino. Whoops! — a winery in Jersey City has publicly banned Nicole ‘Snooki’ Polizzi from their shop while she’s there shooting her show. Pfft, like Snooki drinks wine. Anything less than moonshine would be like tap water to her. TMZ reports:

In an unwise financial move, the wine shop next to Snooki’s new Jersey City home wants nothing to do with the little booze guzzlin’ blast in a glass … and even posted a sign on the door to keep her the hell out. We’re told Jwoww ain’t welcome in the store either, so the ladies will have to schlepp their bronzed behinds a little further than next door when they want to binge drink for the cameras of their new reality show. TMZ spoke to the GM at the wine shop … who tells us, “Even if Jwoww shows up at our front door she will not be let in.”

Once again, you’re assuming that Snooki and Jenni ‘JWoww’ Farley are snobby oenophiles who drink nothing but the finest pinot grigio, like those guys from Sideways. “Come JWoww, let us venture forth to the Napa Valley where we will drink, have existential crises, and bang Sandra Oh.”

First, a quick fact: February 20th was Kurt Cobain‘s birthday, and he would have turned 45 this year. Which is so odd to ponder, as I think we all still imagine him as the 27-year old voice of an upstart generation. What isn’t odd, is how Nirvana‘s songs still sound so timeless and relevant. So in a goosebump-inducing ode to Mr. Cobain, we feature Mighty Mike, who ingeniously took the music from the lullaby rendition of In Bloom and added Kurt’s actual vocal a capella to it. One word: stunning.

Sacha Baron Cohen: Banned from the Oscars?

Because the Oscars are run exclusively by and for rich old people, actor Sacha Baron Cohen was banned from attending the ceremony after he told them that he would be walking the red carpet dressed head to toe in his costume from his upcoming movie, The Dictator. So now they’re saying that he can show up, but only if he promises not to wear the costume or do anything entertaining. Deadline reports:

Later today, faced with all the bad publicity resulting from its action, the Academy tried to parse what it did when questioned by some media outlets. But the fact is that, this morning, the Academy’s Managing Director Of Membership Kimberly Rouch phoned Paramount’s awards staff to say Baron Cohen’s tickets had been pulled unless he gives the Academy assurances ahead of time promising not to show up on the red carpet in costume and not to promote the movie on the red carpet. The Academy made it clear that, without those assurances, it would not issue him the tickets. So he’s banned.

Of course, as Deadline points out, by banning him they’re basically giving his movie even more publicity, which is hilariously ironic because self-important old people trying to do something only to have it completely backfire is always good for a laugh.

Zac Efron dropped a condom on the red carpet!

Because apparently, an animated kids movie based on a Dr. Seuss book is one massive pussy parade, Zac Efron brought a condom with him to the premiere of The Lorax, because hey, you never know right? You’re sitting there in the theater, when all of a sudden some celebrity cougar mom starts making the moves on you while a mustachioed demon with the voice of Danny DeVito lectures you about environmentalism, and then whoops, you’re humping in the bathroom. But hey, kudos to Zac for at least being smart enough to carry around a condom. Hey, sexual health is important, so it’s good to see someone being responsible about these things. I have no idea who Manufactured Superstars are, but I’m sure they’re terrible people because they saw fit to let Paris Hilton lend her voice to their new single Drunk Text (watch the music video below), which according to the Geneva Convention, is a crime punishable by immolation. Anyway, the whole thing is just as terrible as you would think anything starring Paris would be. Seriously, this song and video are what you would create if you wanted to explain to the bleeding prostitute you locked in your basement that you are the way you are because your mom drank mercury when she was pregnant with you.

Adam Levine believes in pulling out!

So let’s ride this a little longer — teehee! — with this story about how Adam Levine went on The Howard Stern Show and spoke about how he fully endorses pulling out as a means of contraception. Which, when you consider how politicians everywhere are shitting themselves over the idea that women might want their birth control covered by healthcare the way men have their Viagra covered, might actually be the only form of contraception women can use soon. OK! reports:

“This is the longest, most functional relationship I’ve ever been in,” he told Howard on his show. “I don’t want to screw it up.” Anna reportedly came out of the green room to share her version of how she met Adam. The two met when Maroon 5 was hired to play at a party for the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition. “He thought I was a stuck-up b**** and I kind of thought he was a d***bag musician,” she explained. In a TMI conversation, Adam revealed he uses “a fool-proof birth-control system,” the pull-out method.

Okay, mind you, studies have shown that when executed perfectly, pulling out has a failure rate of only 4%, which compared to the condom’s 2% is pretty good. That being said, pulling out provides little to no protection when it comes to defending against STDs, so I’d still say using condoms are a safer bet. Yes, they don’t feel as good as unprotected sex, but you know what feels even worse? Gonorrhea!
