Can I just say that the internet is awesome? Ok, I am gonna sound like a broken record here but really, the Internet is awesome! I’m sure you’ve had your share of stories about sites that are blocked in your place of work.

Yahoo! Messenger is a common fixture in most corporate IT banned applications. Even when Yahoo! Came up with a Messenger version that does it’s own tunneling, rendering admin privileges useless, Messenger was still successfully suppressed with memos of IT audits and disciplinary action once Messenger is found to be installed in your PC.

Then came Meebo and e-Buddy and all those hosts of browser based messaging systems that literally mocked all IT measures to keep third party messaging systems out of every company. The Internet cannot be denied.

I got to relive those moments just recently with Twitter. With the advent of social media, again the IT hounds are tasked with making sure that all social media related sites are kept out of the corporation’s system. Everything that sounded like a social media site was banned. And because installing something on my corporate PC would require admin rights, it looked like Twitter would forever be limited to my phone and my home computer.

I was almost resigned to just twittering at home, until I decided to scour the internet for some Meebo like site where I can Twit to my heart’s content. Fortunately for me, I found TwitKu. You only have to go to TwitKu.com put in your twitter username/password, and off you go to the twitterverse.

The Internet, I have to say again, is AWESOME!
Come August 2009, Sony will be introducing its 10.1 inch Sony Vaio W in the US market. With an introductory price of only $499, it should be a good deal for those looking for very portable laptops. In Sony’s hometown however, it will be available for roughly $630. Makes me wonder how much it will cost when it finally hits the Philippines market.

I am especially looking at the berry pink Vaio W as it looks very girly and should make my significant other very happy when I hand her a spanking brand new unit this September. I just hope the Sony Vaio W will be available here by then.

Specs for the Sony Vaio W Netbook include:

- 1.6GHz Atom processor
- 160GB HDD
- 1GB RAM
- Windows XP
- Bluetooth
- 802.11b/g/n
- VGA out
- 2 USB ports
- Ethernet
- Webcam
- MemoryStick / SD card readers

The Sony Vaio W is already available for pre-orders starting today online at www.sonystyle.com/pr/w, and will be sold at Sony Style® stores and other major retailers around the US starting August.

What I really like about blogging is that not only does it satisfy my writing cravings, sometimes it puts a little change in my pockets as well. I’m sure most bloggers already have adsense in their blogs as it is one of the easiest ways to earn money from. However, I would recommend adding another form of revenue stream to complement adsense.

My second favorite money maker would be Chitika. I love how unobtrusive it is. In fact, you can barely see it unless you would intentionally want to see it. So far, it’s been a consistent contributor to my monthly allowance.

Adsense is doing good but sometimes for newbies, a $100 payout limit can be a bit daunting. The good thing with Chitika is that you get paid with as little as $10 income that you’ve accumulated. Sounds really small right? However let’s see what $10 can get you on the internet.

1. You can already buy a domain name for yourself!
2. You can buy a decent customized blogging theme (check out Gabfire)
3. You can pay for a month’s worth of hosting.
4. Buy a few iPhone apps.
5. Buy your favorite eBook.

So if you’re still fixated on Google Adsense, you may want to rethink that and install Chitika on your blog as well.
Since I found myself with a little time on my hands I decided to spend this time doing my monthly ranking update.

Alexa Update

Both my main blogs, thirdworldgeek.com and agiledeals.com started the month with a 184K ranking. Earlier last month agiledeals.com made an impressive run, improving its Alexa rank from 300K to 184K. This month, agiledeals.com continued its frenetic pace and has completely and utterly left thirdworldgeek.com in the dust. As of this writing, thirdworldgeek.com’s Alexa rating is 173K or an improvement of 11K since the start of the month. My Philippines Travel Blog however is now at 146K or an awesome 38K increase in ranking. How this happened I have no idea. It’s not like agiledeals.com suddenly had lots of traffic. Oh well.

Google PR Update

Aside from a few of my blogs getting ranked by Google, agiledeals.com again moved up a notch to PR3. That’s another PR higher from May. Really weird why this little blog is moving on up very well. Must be the domain name, I don’t know.

Money Making Effort

Well, I’m still struggling in this area (understatement of the year). In terms of Adsense however, things are looking up. Before it took me really long time to hit $100 but seems like I’ll be hitting the same amount in two months. Not bad actually. My friend ceblogger and I usually have a good laugh over our obsession with Adsense when if we really think about it, it takes us very little time to earn this amount with our jobs. Oh well, apples and oranges.

Area For Improvement

I think where I went wrong this month is my tendency to try and tackle a lot of things all at the same time. I usually just end up feeling overwhelmed and unable to do what I am supposed to do. So for next month, I will do my best to focus on just one thing. Let’s see if that helps.

Until next month! In the meantime, I would love to hear how you guys fared this month. Cheers!
At least for two and a half hours. IT guys were all over my computer as they try to upgrade me to a newer box. It’s not too bad. I get to have a couple of hours to myself without getting too guilty about it. The only thing is that without a computer, my options were limited so I had to walk all the way to Makati Ave just to get my internet fix.

I managed to find a cafe that advertises itself as having the fastest internet connection in the country. All I can say is, TALK IS CHEAP. While their internet connection is indeed faster than average to say that it is the fastest is, well, I must be the queen of England.

Not sure who they’re fooling but I do know that their target market, the Koreans wouldn’t be too impressed I’m sure, what with the ridiculously high internet speeds they have in their country. I figured that they are targeting Koreans because well, the keyboard has all those Korean alphabets in it and the web browser is in Korean as well, which makes for one shitty browsing experience. And at P60/hour? Argh, I can feel my arm getting ripped off already.

But it’s alright,t I guess. they have 29″ flat screen Samsung monitors and really comfy chairs that allow you to lean back while you type. The airconditioning system sucks though and with all the computers here, things are getting hot!

I wonder if the owners have already recovered their investment in this place. As for me, I’m still dreaming of having one of my own internet cafe again.
I haven’t been as active in this blog as I should. Blame it on two things, travel and money.

While a lot of folks have been working their asses off, I decided to get a little life and see the country. I finally got to see the enchanted river of Hinatuan with my two little helpers. Just a little bonus for them for working so hard taking a few of my blogs to the next level. You can see and read about our little adventure to the enchanted river here HINATUAN’S ENCHANTED RIVER. By the way, this blog has been outrunning this blog in terms of Alexa page rank. I wonder why that is. Oh well.

Another thing that keeps me really busy AND dizzy is the concept of making money online. I’ve already received my first Google Adsense check (yay!) and while the amount is not that significant compared to other folks, it only served to underscore the fact that there is money to be made with Adsense. Now I’m exploring other areas that I hope would give me greater income and greater flexibility.

I have dabbled a bit with affiliate marketing and have in fact purchased a month membership to John Reese’s Opportunity.com. The only edge I can actually see there is that they highlight offers that newbie affiliates may want to promote. As for the training and all that, I think Affiliate Classroom provides more value buck for buck. There is a shortcut though. I checked PPCBully 2.0 and concluded that it is an awesome tool. However just when I was looking forward to buying it, they come up with a price that is in the lines of ARE YOU F*** KIDDING ME? So it didn’t turn out so well.

Right now I am pouring a lot of efforts on PLR, or Private Label Rights. I think when handled carefully this is going to be a barnburner. I’ll make a report when I actually start making money off it. You can also monitor my progress on PLRs here PRIVATE LABEL RIGHTS.

So there. That’s all there is to it.
This podcast is presented by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. CDC – safer, healthier people.

Welcome to this CDC podcast on how to prevent getting and spreading novel H1N1 flu. Hello. I’m Dr. Joe Bresee with CDC’s Influenza Division.

At this time, an outbreak of novel H1N1 flu is occurring in the United States and internationally. While CDC is taking action to control the outbreak, communities, businesses, places of worship, schools, and individuals can also take steps to slow the spread.

Novel H1N1 flu spreads when sick people cough or sneeze flu germs onto others or onto surfaces that someone else may touch. Whether you’re at home, work, school, or running daily errands, you can help prevent the flu by washing your hands often with soap and water and avoiding contact with sick people.

Sometimes you won’t have access to running water, so you might want to carry hand sanitizer that contains at least 60 percent alcohol. If you can, it’s best to use soap and water because hand sanitizer doesn’t remove soil and other material that might be on your hands.

If you’re diagnosed with novel H1N1 flu, it’s important to stay away from others. Stay home from work or school to keep from spreading the virus. Remember, you may be able to infect others beginning one day before symptoms develop and up to seven or more days after becoming sick. That means you may be able to pass on the flu to someone else before you know you’re sick and while you’re sick.

CDC also recommends that you cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Put your used tissue in the trash immediately.

For up to date information on novel H1N1 flu, please visit www.cdc.gov or call 1-800-CDC-INFO, that’s 1-800-232-4636.

For the most accurate health information, visit www.cdc.gov or call 1-800-CDC-INFO, 24/7.

One of the more in demand jobs for nurses these days is working in nursing homes. With an aging population, especially in the US, home nursing care becomes even more necessary for folks to have better quality of life. Of course these folks can just go to nursing homes that provide cost-effective ways to enable patients with injuries, acute illnesses or postoperative care needs to recover in an environment outside a hospital.

Consider these statistics from longtermcarelink.net;

* Number of nursing homes: 18,000
* Number of beds: 1.9 million
* Occupancy rate: 87 percent
* Number of current residents: 1.6 million
* Average length of stay (current resident): 892 days (2.44 years)
* Number of discharged residents: 2.5 million
* Average length of stay (discharged resident): 272 days (8.94 months)

These statistics go way back 10 years ago so one can just imagine how this looks now.

The Occupational Health and Safety Administration in the US foresees that by the year 2020, the demand for nurses in home care settings (including “managed care nursing home settings) is expected to increase by as much as 250%.

If you’re a nurse or you just passed the recent June 2009 Nursing Board Exams, you might want to consider this as a career option. If you think this is for you, one resource that you can look at is Core Medical Group. You can learn all about them in this link — opportunities for international nurses.

If Australia, with its beaches and sunny weather, is where you want to practice your nursing skills, here’s a very good resource that you could check out. It only costs a few bucks for very good information.

Last year’s Wimbledon final was a heartbreakingly awesome. Nadal won the French Open and Wimbledon back-to-back both at the expense of Roger Federer. That was the year that Rafael Nadal broke Roger Federer’s back, taking away from him everything, well almost, including the much coveted number 1 ranking in all of tennis.

I couldn’t believe what happened, even as big as a Federer fan like myself, I thought that was the start of Roger’s decline from being a tennis god to being a pedestrian player like most players on the tour, though certainly still leagues higher over average tennis Joes.

Then early this year, Roger announced that him and Mirka were expecting their first child and followed that one up with a wedding. I thought, ‘well, there’s goes the neighborhood’. And it seems as though the writing was on the wall. Roger Federer was happy, his personal life is coming together, and he’s had so many victories and triumphs that I felt like there’s no need for him to feel hungry anymore. That he spent so many months without a tour victory and experienced very early exits in tournaments he entered only made things worse for a fan such as myself.

I almost lost interest in tennis, until Roger made his present felt once again at the Mutua Madrilena Cup in Madrid, besting the pride of Spain nonetheless in front of hugely partisan crowd on clay. True, Nadal was hurting even then but I thought that victory sparked something in Roger. It must have lit-up his slowly dying fire in his belly.

And early this month, he finally won the French Open, tying Sampras’ record of 14 Grand Slams and becoming only the sixth tennis player in the world to have the full Grand Slam set sitting in his trophy room. Everything was coming together for the Fed Express.

And Nadal, well his unbelievably physical type of play is finally catching up with him. He lost early in the French, something that was totally impossible to most fans. And now he withdrew from the Wimbledon Tournament leaving the field wide open for Roger Federer.

The question now is who will stop Roger Federer on grass? Novak Djokovic? Certainly the Serb has had pretty good success against the Swiss master, winning their last two meetings. But that was before Federer got his mojo back, and certainly not one of those victories came on the grass where Federer lives and breathes.

The only person that I could think of that could beat Roger Federer on grass this year is the young Scot, Andy Murray. This kid has got Roger Federer figured out (or so he thinks) winning their last four meetings and he loves the grassy surface as well. He has also acquitted himself really well during the pre-Wimbledon tournament winning the title in Queens and becoming the first Brit to win on grass in 71 years. He’s full of confidence and he just might be the one to break the Federer/Nadal domination on grass.

I still think that Roger will be the man this year. Without Rafael Nadal’s shadow hanging over him, he just might make everyone look foolish in this tournament like the way he played Lu Yen-Hsun in the first round. It’s when he’s like this that Roger is at his most destructive, like he’s on autopilot or something. Everyone else, well they could all just hope to make it to the finals and stop there.
The race is on for the June 2009 Nursing Board Exams Results SEO contest. There may not be any guideline or contest mechanics regarding this, but make no mistake, this is a contest. If you search for this keyword, you will already see the usual suspects dominating Google’s first page. Mine is already in the second page but I may have something up my sleeve which I hope will surprise everyone once the day of reckoning arrives.

Jehzel’s group of sites are currently sitting on top of the heap and I intend to do something about that or at least try to do something to change the balance of power. We will see how this pans out in the coming weeks.

There is no prize for being the big dog on d-day, only bragging rights and the potential of breaking the webhosts servers once the traffic start coming in. With more than 80K nursing wannabes this is bound to be really special this year.

The losers as usual are the many traditional newspapers who are a bit slow on the uptake. Once the June 2009 Board Exam Results come out expect the front page of Google to be flooded by bloggers and not by these publications. Really, these cats should get their ducks in a row. Hire a couple of SEO experts or something.

But for now, we can all still sit back and enjoy this SEO show.
