I was working on a cake that resembled Thomas the Tank Engine…he was perfect. I was so proud of how he turned out until the next morning.

His entire back end settled…he was a mess. His pick up was scheduled for early afternoon so I had enough time to “fix” his back half. I actually think he turned out better the second time around! You be the judge…

Last Friday I had a friend pick up a cake order for her daughter’s first birthday. When my daughter answered the door, two of the baby barn swallows that live on our front porch decided to fly INTO the house! After successfully transporting the cake, cupcakes and smash cake to her car amidst the parent birds dive-bombing us, I was on a mission to find our little bird friends.

One of the babies had perched on the window sill in our living room which made it easy to capture. When we took it outside, Mama bird was still not too happy with us “stealing” her babies, swooping down and squawking like a mad woman! We were unable to locate baby bird #2. By Friday I started to question if we actually saw the second bird fly in or if in the commotion we just thought we saw two birds.

Early Saturday morning I heard chirping near our front door. Baby bird #2 was in the niche above our front door “talking” to her mama on the other side of the window. So sweet! My super great hubby rescued the baby and reunited him with his family. A good day in the Welch house

Here’s the cake the barn swallows had to come check out! You can see the smash cake and cupcakes here.

I want to wish everyone a very Happy Memorial Day! May the Lord bless and protect all those who are currently serving in our military and may He comfort those who have lost loved ones. I am proud to be the sister of a deployed Airman. Thank you for fighting for the freedom we so easily take for granted.

Please continue to remember those who serve, who fight and who died for our country. Freedom isn’t FREE.

Ms. L. was so taken back by her cake she didn’t want to get up from the table. Makes my heart happy!

Happy 3rd Birthday, Ms. LK!!

This week I had the crazy idea of making cake pops for Teacher Appreciation Week. I decided to make two batches…one Devil’s Food cake and one Confetti/Sprinkles cake. I used both Almond Bark and Candy Melts to see which one had the best flavor and texture. I made the mistake of adding Wilton’s food coloring to some of the almond bark…whoops! Guess there are specific candy dyes! HA! They turned out really well! I am adding these to my list of available items to purchase. I will also offer them in red velvet and lemon. I think I’ll try making them from brownies also…a thicker, more dense chocolate would really compliment the almond bark. Yum…
