An unexpected, yet fantastic, help from iwantmyname

The first time I turned to iwantmyname was several years ago to register the domain name of this website.

Yes, there are hundreds of domain name registrars but this one seemed to follow a very simple and convenient procedure. And so it was.
Since then I did the same for a few more domain names and I kept being happy.

Recently in Greece we experienced and continue to experience capital controls enforced by the government. Which means that we are unable to use our credit/debid cards for all transactions abroad.

These days I got a notification by iwantmyname about the expiration of this domain name and the automatic renewal that comes next. Obviously this was not possible - my card was practically useless. I explained to the company that this hasn't got to with me but with a much broader and very bitter situation. Their response was a great surprise: they renewed my domain name for free!

I can't really express my gratitude: they trusted a stranger and they showed a great level of generosity. They did what they needed to do fast and they never made me feel bad - remember, a useless card is my problem, not theirs.
I think this is an unsurpassed level of customer service.

In case you haven't heard of iwantmyname, I think you should take a look at their services or their blog. And if you're thinking of a new domain name, iwantmyname is the perfect place to go and register it.

iwantmyname, thanks a ton!

It’s a great honor to see my article, Dealing With Workaholism On Web Teams, published on Smashing Magazine a few months ago, being republished, now as a part of an e-book.

The title of the e-book is Work Smart, Live Healthy and it focuses on practical ways that make our every day routine as web professionals a bit better. You can certainly find the same articles online and free. But I would recommend you to get the book. Why? Because when reading those articles one after the other the messages you get are much more concise and strong. All in all it costs only €4.5.

This is the second time I see an article of mine being part of an e-book and the excitement remains. The first one What Successful Products Teach Us About Web Design was included in the great e-book Marketing Secrets For Web Designers.

I really want to thank the people of Smashing Magazine for their high level of professionalism and their kindness. Working with you guys is a real pleasure. I can’t see the moment coming back to you with a new article.

In a world that pushes you, sometimes too hard, to produce and consume more information, quality lies in a different direction. It has to do with everything and it has to do with design itself.

Oliver Reichenstein from Information Architects shows us that direction and talks about its principles:

slow down

focus on the process

embrace negativity

don't be afraid of repetition

care for the details

This is a valuable analysis.

I never thought I would write a mini guide for a game one day. But if it has to do with the legendary Civilization, things change. I've been playing this game, my favourite one, for more than 15 years—my addiction is obvious.

Civilization Revolution 2, was launched nearly a month ago for iOS devices. While the AI of the game needs work, there are many things to like. For example, the tactics required to reach to victory and the gameplay are extraordinary.

If you like the game I think you will find my short guide interesting. Without further ado here is How to win in Civilization Revolution 2 (Deity Level), published on Medium.

Our portfolio now has a fresh project: AbZorba Games.

AbZorba is a leader in gaming. It supports all the main digital ecosystems, such as iOS and Android and some of the games of the company are bestsellers in their category. This is something not everyone can do.

We designed the new version of the official website a few weeks ago and we're proud of it. Want to learn more? Here's the relevant case study.

Dealing With Workaholism On Web Teams - An article for Smashing Magazine

I always thought workaholism hurts work, hurts teams, and most of all it hurts people. Not everyone endorses this view. In fact, it seems a whole industry, our industry, promotes workaholism.

So I had to do something about it. It took months and an incredible amount of work to finally be able to publish an article about workaholism and web teams. It happened on Smashing Magazine and this makes me even prouder. So here is Dealing With Workaholism On Web Teams.

The number and quality of comments that followed surprised me. I never thought so many people share the same feelings towards workaholism. So we’re not alone and that’s something.

Smashing Magazine is not coincidentally one of the most successful web magazines out there: its staff is skilled professionals and they care a lot. Without them, this article would have been just a wishful thought. So, I really want to express my appreciation, especially to my editor Siobhan McKeown.

Meaning & Structure: a new HTML theme

Despite what you might consider, the market that covers HTML themes and templates is not saturated. At least this is my solid thought according to the research I made the latest months. So I prepared an HTML theme which aims to help you develop websites very quickly. Please meet Meaning & Structure.

What can you find in this theme?

Many headers, footers, home pages and color schemes in order to personalise it. This theme comes in two flavours, white and dark.

More than 40 templates and several spacial pages such as: promo page, 404 error page, FAQ, coming soon page and more.

Many image galleries, carousels and sliders.

Of course it is responsive.

It supports a modular architecture which helps you add or remove elements without hassles.

The complete list of features is available in the demo.

Meaning & Structure is a very affordable theme. You can have it with only $19 and if you buy it via Dealotto the following days you can have with even less.

If someone would ask me "Who is the designer who influenced you most?", I would answer, Doug Bowman. I follow Bowman from the early days of his career when he redesigned the website of WIRED magazine with no tables. Remember?

Anyway, in Delivering Delight Bowman shows us six ways to approach design in order to bring delight to our website visitors. What is even more interesting is that he talks about our design approach in general.

Several months ago I wrote an article for Smashing Magazine. The title of the article is: What Successful Products Teach Us About Web Design. While it wasn’t easy to get it published everything went well in the end. Now I’m happy to tell you that the same article is part of an e-book.

So the book is Marketing Secrets For Web Designers and it includes eight brilliant articles and mine. Sure, you can find these articles online but I think you will take the most of them if get the book. It’s a steal actually since it costs only €4.49.

Everybody knows Smashing Magazine of course. Working with the people who run it was a great experience. I think they are very professional, generous and polite. They strive for good content and quality. I do appreciate their work and the way they treated me and my article. Thank you Smashing Magazine.
