Last month, J.Crew opened the doors to its third men’s shop in New York, located in the Upper East Side on the corner of 79th and Madison Avenue. We gave you a brief rundown not too long ago (read it here) but Michael Williams over at ACL actually got the opportunity to visit the shop. Being the creative mastermind that he is, instead of pulling out an SLR, the man teamed up with Sean Sullivan to put together a video tour. Check it out after the jump. 

If you thought Ace Hotel properties were well-designed, wait until you see the press kits The Official Manufacturing Company cooked up for Ace Portland. “After a successful year with a temporary press kit for Ace Portland, the hotel expanded into multiple properties. They needed a modular press kit to accommodate a fluctuating amount of information from property to property, and they wanted it to feel like a book. Both were awarded Best Promotional Kit by Applied Arts Magazine in sequential years.”

We got our hands on The Hill-side‘s Fall 2010 lookbook from the Brothers Corsillo and we have to say it’s pretty darn creative. Take a bunch of your friends, toss ‘em each a tie from your fall collection then send them over to your photo booth and see what happens. The Hill-side has always dropped some great products, most recently their collaboration with Tender Co. For the fall, expect an array of fabrics, including chambray, tweed and even waxed canvas. The color’s range as well but mostly stay mellow.

The Fall/Winter 2010 collection from GANT Rugger offers up a full range of well-crafted pieces with a vintage American sportswear look that’s as authentic as we’ve seen. For the two themes, Deer Hunter and The Preppiest Catch, inspiration is drawn from the old fashioned hunter and the hardy fisherman exploring the Great American Outdoors.

A 1969 Mercedes-Benz 600 Pullman once owned by Elvis Presley is hitting the auction block in December and is expected to fetched over $300,000. The King of Rock’s most prized (and some not-so prized) possessions have seen diehard fans and collectors pick up products owned by him for well above their appraised values so we won’t be surprised if this beauty gets picked up for more.

The car is up for sale by Bonhams of Surrey.

Hope everyone’s having a great Labor Day. I’m really excited to officially unveil to you the third iteration of PorHomme.com. In the past, our primary focus has been to deliver outstanding content and we’d like to think that we did a pretty decent job in doing that. From a design-point however, I have always felt that there was something missing. Por Homme v3 looks to solve this and I hope you all dig it as much as we do.

I worked closely with Georgia-based Matt Yow on the logo design. I had a vision for it and he brought it to reality. His work is a testament to his creativity and dedication. Shout outs to him for all his help.

There are some key things to note in PH v3, so allow me to briefly run through those. The top navigation bar keeps things organized, and gives you access to all the key pages of the site in a pretty efficient manner. Navigation by category is still here but it’s been tucked under the “Category” drop-down. On the same bar, look to the right and you can hit the RSS logo or mail envelope to subscribe to our feed via reader or email. Other ways to connect with us are via Twitter, Facebook or Technorati, all of which are located atop the sidebar with their respective logos. If you haven’t already, definitely join the PH community, we’d really appreciate your support.

People love sharing our content and so we’ve kept the ability to share via Twitter and also added a Short URL option in case you’d like to shoot it out via another medium. The short URL is by bit.ly and tied in to our bit.ly account so you can share with some peace of mind. People will question me for removing the FB “Like” links and the Fanbox. To keep the site running smooth and look as seamless as possible, something had to go. Did anyone else think those links were a bit tacky?

“100 Legendary Trunks” is filled with over eight hundred photos which highlight some of Louis Vuitton‘s most exceptional trunks. “Many incredible pieces are featured here, along with the equally incredible stories of their creation. Look for this book to release in October.

Ryan at Inventory gives us a look inside Self Edge’s new Los Angeles store. “They sell a very focused selection of high quality garments to an educated consumer. Kiya is a smart business man, a funny guy and a passionate retailer.” The new shop will surely reaffirm these notions and help the brand to continue its growth process. The layout is clean and welcoming and will surely gain traction with its North La Brea Avenue location.

We’ve gotten our hands on the Penfield‘s lookbook for the fall and we have to say, the imagery is tremendous. With the Massachusetts-based label celebrating the second half of its 35th Anniversary this season, we were confident this line would rank among their finest works. A Longmeadow Morning is meant to convey a sense of where the brand came from, as well as where it’s headed as a modern, fresh take on life in the outdoors. The lookbook shows off some must-haves including a two-tone leather vest in camel with a little bit of dark brown.

Look for the collection at fine retailers nationwide this month.

New York-based designer Steven Alan has teamed up with the king of khakis — Dockers — to deliver a special collaboration for Fall 2010. The capsule collection represents highlights from both brands with khakis from Dockers and shirting from Steven Alan. When discussing Dockers and this co-branded line, Steven Alan said, “I always liked the idea of working with a heritage company and going to the roots of what they’re about and then re-inventing it.” Well, he’s known for doing timeless remakes of classics so it’s no surprise the khakis in this collection, as well as the other pieces, are so well-thought-out and impeccably designed.

We think it’s safe to say this will be one of the most sought-after lines for the fall as it features some well-crafted pieces at a pretty affordable price point. Prices range from $248 for jackets, ties for $48, woven shirts for $148 and a group of khaki pants for $128. Look for the Steven Alan for Dockers collection to start hitting select Barneys stores, as well as the Steven Alan Annex shops sometime in early October.
