A canned fruit specialist that's earned notice for a daring cross-production strategy is now making inroads in two new arenas. Oregon Fruit Products leaders said this week the company will sell Non-GMO Project Verified goods in all of its cans and "pourable fruit" lines. Intel Corp., in testing its own water after Portland Public Schools revealed it found lead in fountains at at least two facilities, said Monday three of its fixtures have tested for higher lead levels. The vast majority of sinks, fountains and other spots tested "returned negative results," meaning the levels were below Environmental Protection Agency "action levels" of 15 parts per billion. A federal judge in California last week dismissed a suit by Long Beach, Calif., which — like Portland — took Monsanto to court to hold the company responsible for hazardous PCB contamination of various bodies of water.

The iconic Der Rheinlander restaurant, which is closing early next year, will be replaced by a new building that will house a multi-specialty health care center owned by The Portland Clinic.
