Luckily, I stumbled upon Wedding Jewels Etsy Shop while trying to find some inspiration for my own wedding day fashion. Handmade, dainty and perfectly pretty… here’s a little bit about Wedding Jewels by Gosia Meyer:

“Intrigued by jewelry and fashion for as long as I can remember, my first foray into jewelry design was borne of not being able to find a particular necklace I hoped to buy. I instead made it myself and was soon designing jewelry for friends, family and fellow flight attendants (as that was my job at the time)

I strive to create chic, elegant treasures that are beautiful yet affordable. I design sterling silver pieces accented by semi-precious gemstones, Swarovski Crystals, pearls, and glass beads. I gladly work on custom pieces and have designed jewelry for bridal parties, including variations on my own creations as well as designs dreamed up by my customers.

To further enrich and refine my craftsmanship, I have taken a silversmith class and precious metal clay class and - always eager to expand my skills – I plan on pursuing additional courses in the future.”

Top Five Bridesmaids’ Don’ts

Last week we shared the Top 5 Bridesmaids' Do's in terms of their role in the wedding's events. And this week we're sharing the Top 5 Bridesmaids' Don'ts!

Again, to be asked to be a bridesmaid is quite the honor. You're there to help the bride enjoy every ounce of her big day and all the festivities leading up to the moment she says, "I do." Take the job seriously, she's chosen you as one of her right-hand ladies. She trusts that you'll help her through all the stress and worry. And she most importantly, wants to share one of the most special days of her life with you at her side.

Top 5 Bridesmaids' Don'ts

1. Don't back out at the last minute. Please DO NOT back out of the entire ceremony at the last minute. If the bride is trusting you to be at her side on such an important day, don't break her trust by going back on your word.

2. Don't spill the secrets. Jealous or stressed, or even on accident ... there are no excuses. Do not leak any wedding day secrets, especially of the dress to other friends, the groom, the in-laws, or worse ... people that aren't even invited to the wedding! Just zip those lips!

3. Don't act like you don't care. The worst thing you can do as a bridesmaid is make like you're disinterested in the wedding. Remember that whatever is going on in your life is just as important as her wedding day in her life. If your friend, sister, cousin, co-worker ... or whoever is the bride show that you care and are excited for her upcoming day!

4. Don't expect the bride to pay. If you've agreed to be a bridesmaid, don't expect the bride or her parents to cough up the cash. Again as we said in a recent post, unless it's completely unreasonable save a little for her big day and if she hasn't already, she'll gladly return the favor.

5. Don't party too hard at the wedding. Have fun and celebrate with the happy couple, but don't go overboard, make a scene, or be unable to help the bride with anything and everything throughout the ceremony and reception.

Five Appetizers for a French-Themed Affair

Themed parties are fun and spirited. They don't have to be kitschy or corny, and if done right, they'll serve as a great memory to all your guests. Whether you want a themed reception or bridal shower, bachelorette party or engagement dinner .... there's so many things you can do to make it special.

But let's face it, food is especially important. So today we've picked one of my favorite themes, that can be done in SO many different ways. Girly, chic, cultural or artsy; A French-themed affair is always a hit. And with any party, appetizers are essential, so let's take a look at 5 little treats that'll blow everyone's Parisian socks off.

Now remember this is a "French-themed" party not a French blow out. Be creative, just like with these recipes and have fun!

1. Be open to what she wants and what she likes. Remember, it's her day, not yours. Unless it's completely unreasonable, just go with the flow and make her happy ... not miserable.

2. If you say you'll do it ... do it ASAP. Lessen her worries by getting your responsibilities done and out of the way. Don't be a part of her stress and don't procrastinate.

3. Help plan her bridal shower and bachelorette party. Don't expect the bride to plan celebrations that are supposed to be in celebration of her (and her husband-to-be!). This is a time for her to de-stress and enjoy all the love being thrown at her.

4. Keep the jealous bug at bay; misery doesn't love company. Even if you're admittedly a little jealous of her upcoming nuptials and all the attention, don't let it get the best of you. Don't resent your loved one for her happiness, be a part of it and be happy for her.

5. Be (mentally) present on the big day! When it's time for the "I do's" and reception dances, put on your happy face and celebrate. Even if you're completely relieved it's over ... the day of the wedding is when she'll need you the most.

DIY Inspiration: Fabric Flower Vases

Completely personalized and super easy, these fabric flower vases can set the scene for your romantic garden wedding or be used as a little something pretty for your backyard bridal shower. Whether you decide to snap them to a chair, line the aisle or hang them about here or there at you afternoon brunch or tea ... it doesn't matter .... they're whimsical and just plain pretty!

All you need to do is buy the containers for around $1 or so at one of your local stores and pick out the right fabrics, ribbons or twine ... decide of your flowers ... and create! Once Again, Once Wed (Project created by Dolci Odille) gives us great inspiration and a great DIY!

What you'll need:

Bygel IKEA containers (or something similar)
spray mount
your choice of fabric
twine (or your choice of ribbon)
scissors
your choice of flowers

What to do:

Take your fabric and cut it to 14" by 9".
Go outside and spray the container using your spray mount. (*Note: spray a bit on the inside rim too)
Wrap the fabric around the container (make sure it's tight!). Smooth out the creases and air bubbles. Tuck the fabric at the top inside the container and cut off excess in the back to make a nice, smooth line.
Add your twine or pretty ribbon to the hook located in the back of the container.
Pop in your flowers!

Fashion Friday: Linen Suits

As summer quickly approaches, most brides are scurrying around tying up loose ends and finishing up some last minute plans. We've got to remind them to figure out what their men are wearing! There are so many times when the question is brought up, "What is (insert male name here) wearing?" And the bride answers, "O, we'll figure it out later."

All I can say is, it's important! Yes the gown should be chosen first, but you should also spend a good amount of time deciding on the groom's attire, as well as the groomsmen. But let's be even more specific. Summer weddings can be brutal, especially if you plan to marry outside. So if you've chosen a light, flowy (and breathable dress) looking into a nice, crisp (and breathable) linen suit may be the way to go for your husband-to-be.

It's essential that you plan accordingly for all gratuities. And it's essential that you don't cut anyone short if they've done their job well. It's one of the most important days of your life and everyone helping you to make it special should be rewarded.

Here's a super quick list to help you plan.

Wedding Planner: Up to $500; unless the planner owns the business. A thoughtful gift could also be a good choice to show your thanks.

Hairstylist & Makeup Artist: 15-20%; or a bit more for exceptional service.

Ceremony Officiant: $100 to officiant or $500+ donation to the church.

Musicians: $15-20 per musician; may be an optional gratuity.

Photographer/Videographer: $50-200 per vendor; *Note: This is not expected, unless the photographer/videographer is not the studio owner.

Reception Staff (Set-up, Delivery): $5-10 per person; this may already be built into the contracts with different vendors.

Reception Staff (on-site coordinators, banquet managers, etc): 15-20% of the food cost; this may already be built into the contracts with the vendors.

Key Lime Cupcakes: The Recipe

It's springtime and wedding season is upon us! That means you need some fresh and fruity flavors infused into your party! And if you need some quick ideas on some sweet snacks for your guests check out this Key Lime Cupcake recipe from My Madison Bistro!

Recipe adapted from Bon Appetit, Sept 2008

What you'll need: (for 12-14 cupcakes)

1 ¾ cups cake flour
½ teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon salt
1 stick (1/2 cup) cool unsalted butter, cut into 8 pieces
1 ¼ cups granulated sugar
2 large eggs (room temperature)
2 ½ tablespoons key lime juice
1 tablespoon key lime zest
1 drop green food coloring paste
¾ cup buttermilk (room temperature)

Icing:

1 stick cool unsalted butter, cut into 8 pieces
8 ounces cream cheese (room temperature), cut into 8 pieces
2 ¼ cups powdered sugar, sifted
1 tablespoon key lime zest

What to do: (preheat oven at 350 degrees)

First, sift the salt, baking powder, baking soda and cake flour three times. Set the mixture aside. Then take a mixer (with a paddle attachment) and, on low, beat the butter until it has softened. Once it has softened, add your sugar and increase the speed of the mixer to medium. It should take around 4 minutes to beat this until it's fluffy. Then start adding one egg at a time. After all the eggs have been added drop in the lime juice, zest and food coloring.

Divide the flour into thirds and add it to the batter one at a time. Once everything is mixed well, pour the batter into the cupcake pan.

Then for the icing, use a mixer (with a paddle attachment) to beat butter on low until it has softened. Then add the cream cheese, one piece at a time, as you increase the speed of the mixer to medium. Once mixed well, start adding your powdered sugar, beating the icing on low and adding the zest.

Wedding Tips & Etiquette: Wedding Day Manicure

Here at The Posh Event, we're all about the chic and stylish but we're also all about the right etiquette, especially on your big day. And that includes everything from the rehearsal dinner, to the receiving line, to the right undergarments all the way down to your day-of manicure.

Just like your men should be groomed with a cut and a shave, it's important that your nails are ready for that new wedding band. Whether you can give one yourself or taking a trip to the local nail salon with your bridesmaids, manicures are a definite must when it comes to prepping (and primping) for your big day.

So here are some quick tips and some of my favorite wedding-esque nail polish colors that will hopefully jump-start your nail routine and get them in tip-top shape as you count down the days to your wedding!

1. Keep your nails smooth and buff out splits and chipping with a smoother.

2. Wear rubber gloves when doing the dishes and other cleaning. Your nails don't take to harsh chemicals or dish soap very well.

3. Paint over your nails with strengthening polish every three days or so.

4. Apple a big bout of cream (non-scented) to your hands at night, not only will this keep your skin from cracking but keep your cuticles moisturized. If you use a scented moisturizer the alcohol in the perfume will just dry your hands out. Lubiderm and Eucerin will keep them nice and soft though!

5. Start taking your vitamins. There are plenty of hair, skin & nail remedies out there that work wonders. (Trust me, I started taking the hair, skin and nails Spring Valley mixture two weeks ago and I can already tell a difference!)

DIY Inspiration: Wedding Rings Photo Prop

Using props is all the rage right now when it comes to engagement and after-the-wedding photography shoots. They're used mostly for entertainment but they're really a great way to exhibit your own individual personalities and couple style. Signs, garlands, frames, sports equipment, hats and mustaches, we've seen pretty much everything ... but this little DIY brought to you via The Etsy Blog is quite unique.

I'm personally in love with this idea. It's super casual and super fun. And I'd probably have an absolute blast putting in together, even if it turned out looking more like a hula hoop than an engagement ring.

We love growing our team of amazing people and today I am so excited to introduce to you our newest interns to join Team Duncan, Tara Knutson and Alison Hay!

Meet Tara Knutson - Graphic Designer

Tara is pursuing a degree in Graphic Communications at Minnesota State University Moorhead. Tara is obsessed with fashion and design and brings a wealth of graphic design knowledge and expertise to the team. Tara will coordinate our creative concepts for our design projects. She has already proven to be a gem to the team and I am very excited to have her with us. Here are some fun facts about Tara!

What is your favorite color? I absolutely love bright colors! I think they just pop and they also relate to my personality. I love purple, green and aqua! I think they feed off my brown eyes.

Where is the coolest place you have ever been? I would have to say Maui. I know Hawaii is such a cliche for favorite vacationing but it pretty much defines paradise. Being able to be in such a naturally beautiful place invigorates my mind, body and soul. It's also a place where creativity can come to life.

What do you enjoy most about event planning? I love the design and decor aspect of event planning. I love to be able to make things beautiful and knowing you created something that makes people so happy is a reward of its own.

If you were a pair of shoes, what shoe would you be? Betty high heel platform pump by Gucci because it can go with so much.

What are you secretly obsessed with? Shoes, fashion, coffee, traveling the world...these may not be exactly secrets though...

People would be shocked to know... Even though I'm super girly, I love to hike

What are you most passionate about? My family is number one, doing what makes me happy and living life for the moment!

Meet Alison Hay - Public Relations Assistant

Alison has several years of experience in Investor Relations and Relationship Management, working

for one of the nation’s Top Fortune 500 companies. Her passion for event planning brought us together and we connected the first day we met. I am extremely excited and grateful to have Alison on the team.

Here are a few fun facts about Alison!

What is your favorite color? Pink and gold…do sparkles count as a color?!

Where is the coolest place you have ever been? One of the coolest places I’ve ever been is Santorini, Greece. It is literally the most serene, relaxing, and drop-dead gorgeous city. When I arrived with my husband, it felt like we walked into heaven!

What do you enjoy most about event planning? I love that with talented creativity (and maybe an amazing budget) you can build and design the impossible, bringing a crazy idea to life. I also love the atmosphere of events, the tangible excitement and anticipation of what comes next.

If you were a pair of shoes, what shoe would you be? A nude patent leather YSL Tribtoo pump. High fashion and architectural while remaining clean and classic.

People would be shocked to know that you…play the piano, sing, and write songs when I’m inspired.

What are you most passionate about? I am most passionate about finding what makes people happy and inspiring them to go do it. I am lucky that I tried financial services early in my career and learned it wasn’t for me. I needed a profession that allowed high creativity as well as meticulous planning, organization, and analysis, and events are exactly what I want to do. No one should be wasting time in a life they are unhappy with!
