Sean Russell from Veresen will be speaking at the TREA meeting this Thurs
night 7-8:30 pm, 1017 Western Rd on our local district energy system.
This is a public lecture and a chance for PCL to recommend neighbourhood
projects toward London’s future resiliency and sustainable energy use and
other innovative ideas.

A conversation with Dmitry Orlov about Europe | Energy Bulletin:

This a very useful interview, it identifies the EU as having some safe guard
mechanisms, but I have some concern for the optimism in EU affairs, the
region has a habit of swinging from socialist to right-wing sentiments in a
matter of a couple of years and this may make the transition a bit more
crunchy. With North America I think the one thing that PCL and other
similar groups have to really ramp up is the need for community and this
means re-examining what works for the current dearth in community. I think
that PCL has to promote community as the currency of relief. Any opinions?

NOTICE OF OPEN HOUSE MEETING

CITY OF LONDON CLIMATE CHANGE STUDIES COMPLETION

In 2007 Council approved a two-phased Climate Change Adaptation Strategy.
In 2008, in order to proceed with Phase I of the Climate Change Adaptation
Strategy, the City engaged a research team from UWO together with the
engineering consultant team from Delcan to undertake two studies: Updated
Rainfall Intensity Duration Frequency Curves and the City of London
Vulnerability of Infrastructure to Climate Changes. These studies benefited
from the UWO team’s internationally recognized for academic and unique
scientific knowledge which developed a scientific methodology and evaluation
for Climate Change together with Delcan’s team that applied practical
engineering expertise ensuring consistency and implementation of engineering
practices and standards. The conclusions and recommendations of these
studies provide a framework to support effective decision-making regarding
the City of London municipal and critical infrastructures’ vulnerability
under the extreme rainfall events in relation to operation, maintenance and
planning of these infrastructures as well as to proceed with Council
approved Phase II of the City’s Climate Change Adaptation Strategy for Water
Resources Management. The studies were adopted by City Council in August
2011.

This public meeting will present the major results and recommendations of
the studies and is an opportunity for the public to provide input as the
City moves forward with sub-watershed studies. The studies may be viewed

This week’s release of the Kunstler podcast 30th September 2011, is a good conversation of things happening in the US. His observations on Montana and in particular how gas fracking is being promoted would seem to be very sound and obvious. Of note is how M. Yergin is pushing for people to invest in the fracking business. Kunstler makes an obvious observation that the big oil companies are not investing very heavily into this technology and that they want to public to invest.. and fro good reason, the likelihood of losing one’s shirt in any of these plays is very high. Peak Moment Collapse of the titans is an interview with Dmitry Orlov. The thing that makes this interview interesting is that he speaks to the simplification of contemporary life. How people in modern times require money to continue living is one of the big impediments. I liked the conversation; there are allot of insights that are simple and yet achievable. Here is a peak oil infographics that has many of the facts. It is kind of happy go lucky rather than emphasizing a collapse slant but for the casual visitor, it is worth considering.. But basically only for an introduction. One could of course place comments on what is incorrect and state them along with the graphic. At the bottom of the link page is a code to embed the graphic into a blog. Any comments? Is it too happy a message? Is it worth trying to place onto a separate page?
