Engaged!

Finally getting around to writing a post about our recent engagement. Last couple of days have gone by quickly and I was busy trying to let friends and family know the news.

I officially asked Erica to marry me on Saturday evening at a nearby sculpture garden. We had spent the day doing an incredibly fun, downtown scavenger hunt. Which had a $12,000 engagement ring as the prize. I however, had purchased my own ring a couple of weeks beforehand. After biking all over downtown feverishly for about 4 hours we landed back home and rested.

A couple hours went by and it was time to take the dogs out for the evening. The weather was gorgeous so I decided a little walk down to the sculpture garden (a block away) would be a perfect way to end the evening and show Erica the "consolation prize" for sharing such a fun, eventful day (& 6+ years) with me. We went into a large sculpture called "Nomade" which consists of hundreds of white letters welded together in the shape of a sitting person, with knees pulled up to its chest. It is hollow and has an opening to enter it where the shins and feet would be. I coaxed her to wait for people to leave and we entered the sculpture. Taking pictures and enjoying the work of art. I bent down to pet our dogs and placed the ring on top of one of the many lights in the concrete. Hoping she would see it sparkling. A bad idea in retrospect, for when I asked her to look at it, she was blinded and couldn't see. So I had to pick it up and ask her to look again. Finally, she saw it and I asked her if she would marry me. She was shocked (and blinded) by my impromptu question. Eventually (what seemed like an eternity to me) she said yes and we hugged. Deciding to take another couple of photos.

Three people about our age were passing by and asked if we wanted to take a photo, we quickly took them up on the offer. Walking home we called our parents and told them the news. Wandering through the rest of the garden on a 70° evening in November, in the dark, with people bustling around, was very sureal. Everyone was asking for a photo of the ring so we took a macro shot when we got home and I inset it in our previous photo. Which you can find attached to this blog post.

Now begins the fun task of finding a wedding date, location and everything that comes along with planning a wedding. We have to balance it with her law school work so specifics could take a while. Redesign

Found the time to do a quick redesign of both my posterous and Tumblr. Worked in a common theme between the two since posterous is awesome and allows for "most" of Tumblr's theme syntax to carry over. Let me know what you think about the redesign. I will most likely be making small changes to it as I go along.

Exotic

For some reason Mac'N'Cheese crackers taste better when they are French Canadian. I can't really say whether it is because the French just have a more refined palette* or if I just gavitate towards them because I can't get them here in the states**. But whenever I raid the photo studio here for munchies, I go for the Canadian brands. On a similar vein, Canadian Wheat Thins not as good as their U.S. brethren.

That is all.

*crackers taste the exact same.
