Review: Leggo My Real Fruit Pizza Eggo!

I've mentioned (a lot) that my boys really love pizza. I can serve them pretty much anything on a pizza and they'll eat it. This is how I get vegetables into my three year old since spinach pizza is his fave.

When I heard about the brand new Eggo Real Fruit Pizza, I knew we had to try it. Mom Central contacted me and told me all about the warm toasted granola, fruit and berry flavored cream cheese. They can be microwaved (in a minute or so) or baked in the oven and come in two flavors: Strawberry Granola and Mixed Berry Granola.

That sounded YUMMY! I had to see if it lived up to the description.

Once we received our samples, I decided to try the strawberry version first. Here is the Eggo Real Fruit Strawberry Pizza right out of the microwave:

I decided to make this one first in the microwave to see how well it did by that method. It came out hot and tasty. The boys gobbled it right down and it had a really good, fruity taste. It has plenty of granola and bits of chopped up strawberry. The only thing that was a bit lacking was that signature pizza crunch. It did come with a crisping tray and it had a bit of crispness, but was not as crisp as I personally like. I made the mixed berry version by the oven method and it was just as good tasting, but had a crispy crust. I can see making it in the microwave for a quick breakfast for the boys since they like it fine that way, but if I make it for me, I'll use the oven method. Although it takes a bit longer (5-7 minutes), it's still fast and worth the extra few minutes (I can brew my coffee in that time).

All in all, both flavors tasted good and were easy to prepare. I will definitely pick up a couple of these for fast breakfasts for the kiddos next time I'm in the store. I like that I don't have to feed them fruit, bread or cereal separately and they still get several different food groups into their diet. As you can probably see by the photos, my boys ate the new Eggo Real Fruit Pizzas right down and approved.

Pop On Pals: An Amusement Park In The House

Lately, the boys are getting more and more into imaginative play so I wanted to get them more toys that fed that new curiosity. I wasn't sure which ones my little train loving boys would gravitate towards.

Recently, through my affiliation with Team Mom, I was offered the opportunity to try out a toy that promises to let little ones be anything they want to be. A fireman can become a musician, a princess becomes a baker, a puppy becomes a ballerina. I was happy to hear that they encourage imaginative play and help develop fine motor skills. The toy is called Pop On Pals from Spin Master. They are just that... a toy that lets you pop them on rides, in cars, on buses and even pop different arms and outfits onto them to change them into a different figurine. When we received the Pop On Pals Amusement Park Play Set, complete with roller coaster and Ferris Wheel, I knew it would be a hit with my boys. See this post to see why I was so sure.

Pop On Pals are geared towards children ages 2-4 (perfect us and our two and three year old). There are all sorts of combinations and kiddos just press down on the pal and pop on the mix and match rings. The parts are chunky and perfect for toddler hands. As soon as my first born son saw the box, he started running one of his little trains down the roller coaster while it was still in the box. He had no patience with me while I opened the toy (you know it takes awhile to open toys). Luckily, once I had wrangled it out of the packaging, assembly was a snap (literally). I just snapped on the end of the roller coaster and it was ready.

Finleypotamus had a blast playing with it alone with the little character that came with it. That is until his brother wanted to play at the same time. That is the one suggestion I have for improvement of this set. I would suggest that these big sets come with at least two Pop On Pals. The boys got into more than one fight that ended in tears because they both wanted to play with the Pal at the same time. It would be neat to have two so that one could play with the roller coaster while the other maneuvered the Ferris Wheel or another part of the Amusement Park. There are plenty to buy separately though, so if you buy this for siblings, I suggest buying the extras right off the bat.

I love that the coaster set is simple enough that they figure it out right away, but features lights, sounds and enough action and versatility that they don't get bored easily. It's a fun toy and I look forward to adding to our collection. Mommy Makeover? A Girl Can Dream!

You know, when I look in the mirror I sometimes wonder who that is looking back at me. The three years of diminished sleep and two c-sections in a 12 month period show up in a flabby tummy and extra wrinkles accentuated by dark circles under the eyes.

Thank goodness for makeup and clothes that hold you in in the right spots, right? A tummy tuck would be nice too, but I don't see that happening anytime soon. When I got married, the one thing I splurged on was a professional makeup application and hairstyle. I felt like a princess and loved how smooth my skin looked and how the makeup artist made my eyes "pop". Since then, five years have passed and I now have two beautiful children.

So, here's my question... If you could have a free makeover, what would be on your wish list? I think I'd opt for a flat tummy, a facial, manicure and pedicure, nice long massage, new hairstyle and a makeup and style consultation. I always wanted someone to tell me what clothes would look best on me and teach me advanced makeup application techniques. Something to smooth these wrinkles would be welcome as well! I am already looking into Microdermabrasion as I mentioned before and teeth whitening is something that would be helpful (all that coffee to make up for my sleep deprivation is starting to show).

What would be on your makeover list if you could get a free makeover? We can all dream, right?

C9 by Champion: Versatile Activewear Review

As you know, we just got back from a fun and fabulous vacation in Destin, Florida. We had a blast and the boys spent much time in the pool and on the beach. As you can see by the photo of my Kierbear, it was a relaxing time.

The one thing that wasn't relaxing was making sure I remembered to slather the boys with sunscreen constantly. To help protect them, I kept them in shirts a lot of the time. Luckily, we had recently received samples of the C9 by Champion line that is exclusively available at Target. This line is great for adults and teens who are working out, but also really good for little ones who like to swim. The shirts kept the sun off of their backs and dried really quickly once we were out of the water. They also didn't get heavy and droop or lose shape like a regular t-shirt would. I love a multi-purpose shirt that can go from the playground to the pool like that. We received several styles and you can see my boys in the white and blue version of the Boys' C9 by Champion® Surf the Web Short-Sleeve Compression Tee. They are UV resistant and that's why they helped protect my boys from the sun.They wore them almost daily last week and they stood up to repeated washings looking like new (even an accidental run in the washer with a red shirt that ruined everything in the load but the C9 shirt). My three year old has Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD) and he loved the smoothness of the shirt and the fact that there isn't a tag. These shirts would be really neat to wear while playing outdoors to keep dry and would transition well, in my opinion, to a nice undershirt in the winter.

Texas Bloggers Event at Fiesta Texas Equals FUN!

I am back from vacation and trying to catch up on life.... laundry, housekeeping, appointments, reviews, etc. but I wanted to share some photos from a fun weekend trip we took earlier this month to San Antonio.

San Antonio, TX is one of my favorite cities in Texas. My mother grew up there and I spent a lot of time there as a child visiting my grandparents. When Fiesta Texas opened, I was in high school and that was the last time I went. The place has really grown and changed since then. We were lucky enough to be invited for the day to check out Six Flags Fiesta Texas as part of the first annual exclusive Texas bloggers event. I wasn't sure what my boys would think since they are only two and three, but they loved it. They loved the shows, the food and watching the roller coasters.

They ADORED Wiggles World. They are big fans of the show on SPROUT and had a blasting driving the Big Red Car and dancing during the show. I think Finley's favorite thing to do was ride the train and watch the roller coasters. He was super excited to watch them loop and twirl. It was definitely a highlight for him.

Something I liked as a mom was the fact that there are plenty of indoor activities to give the family a chance to cool off. I really liked that. My boys even snuck in a nap in their strollers after lunch during one of the indoor shows. I liked that there were a lot of different food options and rides for kids of all ages. I was surprised at how many options they had for my little ones. This would be a fun weekend. The family could go to Fiesta Texas one day then spend a leisurely day on the River Walk the next day (my favorite San Antonio attraction).

To be fair, I must say that as a stay at home mom on a tight budget, the one downfall for me is that it can become pricey fast at Six Flags. This is one day trip you'll need to save up for. I suggest buying your tickets (you can also buy your parking pass there) online where you can save a good bit of money by taking advantage of specials. No food is allowed inside the park unless there are special dietary needs, however you can keep food in your car in a cooler and there are picnic tables outside of the gates where you can enjoy your food if you want to save money that way. Also, if you don't like long lines you'll need to pay extra for The Flash Pass. This is a great option for those that don't want to wait and don't mind paying for that privilege. This option was out of our budget range though.

Last year, I shared a post with y'all regarding my change of heart in regards to noisy toddler footwear (squeaky shoes to be exact). You can read that post here to see what I mean. Beautiful music to my ears, but I was surprised at how many smiles we got and people saying how adorable he was in his shoes. It made me smile and he was walking faster than he ever does with his new Wee Squeak Squeaky Shoes just to get the reward of the squeak.

Just Jen: Blinged Out Blog Shirt Review

I love my new Potamus Prefers blog name shirt by Just Jen

Lately, I keep seeing the cutest custom rhinestone shirts worn by other bloggers at blogging events and online. I thought they were awesome and so much more professional and snazzy than the old school tees we made back in the day with Puffy Paint and a BeDazzler (don't hate on the BeDazzler though... it was fun and all we had back then). I found out that these adorable, glammed up tees I see popping up everywhere are by Just Jen. I remember when I got married and when I was planning bachelorette parties and showers for friends. We looked all over for cute bridal t-shirts and I just found out that Just Jen specializes in those as well. At that time, all I could find were premade shirts that lacked pizazz.

Potamus Prefers Is On Vacation This Week!

Hi everyone! I know the blog is quiet this week, but we are on a much needed vacation. We are relaxing on the beach, slowing down a bit and taking in the view. We're spending quality time and making memories. We're relaxing the routine a bit and taking nightly swims to wind down the day.

We are enjoying the beautiful beaches (Destin, Florida) and the change of scenery. There is no oil where we are. It's really nice here with so much to do, so I encourage those that were planning to come and weren't sure if they should, to go ahead and come (And, no, this isn't a compensated review... we paid for this vacation 100% out of our own pockets, but love it here and plan to make it a yearly tradition for our family). In addition to the beaches, there's Baytowne Wharf and beautiful pools and golf and even a really neat outlet mall.

As I type this, one of my boys is sleeping off a fun morning spent digging in the sand and splashing in the water while the other is awake, running Thomas in front of the huge windows that overlook this gorgeous beach area. As you can see by this photographic glimpse into our vacation, the boys are playing until they drop... even if that happens to be while floating in the pool. :)

A PotaMUST Find: Little Grips Utensils Review

Dinner time is fun around here. Good thing bath time is directly after dinner time. My youngest can use a fork and spoon if I help him poke and scoop the food, however sometimes it's hard for him to grab it just right and transport it correctly to his mouth.

Recently, I was sent a sample of Little Grips. These cute little forks and spoons are made especially for toddlers. They feature a larger safety handle that fits nicely into wee ones' hands and allows them to use their arms and wrists for better control. It's a nice starter set to help kids gain confidence. My youngest son took right to them and now he and the three year old fight over the set.

Little Grips says that their toddler utensils make toddler feeding-time easy and enjoyable for you and your child. Feeding is made easy with a larger no-choke safety handle that fits easily in the palm of your child's hands and allows them to use their arms and wrists for better control. Other utensils require finer finger controls that are still undeveloped, creating a frustrating experience for your child. I agree. They are easy to grab with chunky handles. They are also cute and the right size to throw in a snack pack or diaper bag. Some utensils are long and hard to fit into a small snack container.

A Different Perspective: Corner Office With A View

As I sit at a local bagel shop enjoying a cup of coffee and a hot toasted bagel slathered with cream cheese, I reflect on life goals. Yes, many of my important life moments and epiphanies come about when food is involved.

Don’t many of us have the dream of working our way up through school and the corporate ladder? We are taught that hard work and determination will help us attain goals of the perfect job on our preferred rung of the ladder. A big office with a comfy chair and a huge window with the perfect view is part of many of our plans. But, what happens when you climb that ladder, arrive at your preferred destination and realize you want something else?

Although I was never management material and didn’t aspire to be, I was slowly climbing that ladder and enjoyed learning new things. When I found out I was expecting my first son, I figured I’d stay home with him for 12 weeks then pick back up where I left off before maternity leave.

Yeah, not so much.

I know many people that are able to do this, don’t get me wrong, but having a baby changed something in me. I would come to work every day, longing to be elsewhere. I longed to be home holding my child and watching him grow. I couldn’t see a way to make that work so I continued working, but then came our blessed surprise. When my first born son was only a few months old, I found out I was expecting my second son. Out of necessity, I became a stay at home mom when he was born (we couldn’t afford two in daycare). In hindsight, this was the best decision for us. We didn’t know then that my oldest son would have so many health issues and need the intensive therapies that I drive him to several times a week.

I have never really looked back.

The good thing is this. I am still able to do things I love. I blog, I do freelance work and guess what? I have a corner office with a view… right here at my favorite bagel shop that offers free Wifi. I sit here blogging and working while my oldest son is at his summer morning speech / preschool class and my youngest is spending a few hours with his grandparents.

That ladder may not always take us where we think it will, but if we follow our heart and go with the flow, it can lead us to where we should be.

My boys are typical little kids that love to dunk their food in ketchup. My first born especially loves "tatchup" and has even learned the sign for ketchup. Actually, most days, he'd prefer that I just serve him ketchup. His built in dippers (his fingers) work just fine for him. Of course, I do serve real food with this tasty condiment.

Review: Step2 Play Up Double Slide Climber (WIN)

Why is this little boy of mine so happy?

My boys love to play outdoors. They don't care that it's hot, sticky and humid. They just want to run and play and be boys and that's how it should be. With it being so hot, we are not always up for a trek to the park.

With that in mind, I am trying to make their own backyard their own personal playground. We have been adding fun slides, climbers, a sandbox and other play things little by little. Recently, we were given the opportunity to try out the new Step2 Play Up Double Slide Climber. My youngest is really starting to climb things and they aren't always the best choices for his development or safety. Like all toddlers, you have to keep an eye on him. When he's inside, he has taken to climbing up on his train table where he can be part of the train town action (we lovingly calling him our little Kieranzilla). And, yes, they do have a katrillion trains and, yes, apparently they had a terrible train crash on the side of the train table. Maybe Kieranzilla scared them.

Now, back to our regularly scheduled review.

The Step2 Play Up Double Slide Climber arrived in a big box and I couldn't wait for hubby to get off of work one day early enough (he sometimes works late) to put it together. Once he started putting it together, I realized I probably could have done it, but I usually leave that to him since he's so good at it and enjoys putting things together. I just cheer him on and tell him what a good job he's doing. :)

At first glance, the feature that looked cool to me was it's not huge size and the fact that there are two slides right there next to each other. We have a larger play thing in our yard that a dear friend passed down to us. They like it a lot, but my oldest feels a bit intimidated at it's size right now since he's still wobbly in his walking and climbing skills. My youngest spends tons of time on all of the outdoor toys and uses them as his own obstacle course. The more the funner is his take on it! This one is perfect for learning for my oldest who just needs a little extra help to learn things. You can see their first thoughts in action in this video:

The boys tried it out for the first time on two separate days. My oldest tried it out while his brother was at his grandparents' one day and my youngest tried it out when he got back on July 4. We grilled outside and enjoyed the weather, listening to music (that's why you hear music in the background in the video) and watching fireworks light up the sky. They both run straight to it and climb up the slides or the steps and each choose a slide and go. My youngest LOVES this set and has claimed it for his own. He will run out there, climb the steps and sit up top playing with toys and reading his books. He uses it as his own little escape and it's the perfect size where I don't have to worry about him falling off. He'll just slide right down one of the slides when he's ready. He'll then run around the yard a few times, play in the sandbox and come back for a few quick slides. I love that it gives my boys exercise as well.

My husband said it was easy to put together and it took him under an hour to do. He said there was only one part where he had a bit of trouble reaching an area to put it together, but he was able to manage. July 4th Weekend: Running Blissfully Free

On July 4th, we celebrate our freedom as a nation. Thank God for those that fought for that for us. Because of their sacrifices, we now live in a great nation (in my opinion). While celebrating this weekend with my family and while my husband grilled up holiday fare, I got to thinking about another type of freedom.

When I was a little kid in the 1970s, we lived in a teeny tiny town. There were only several hundred people in our community. It was a different time and place and we’d run and play outside from morning until night. We’d ride our bikes to elementary school a couple of blocks away from our home (these were country blocks… about 10 of them would make up a city block these days). Our parents worried more about us falling out of a tree or wrecking our bikes than about us getting abducted by a stranger.

These days that’s not the case anymore. Parents have become hyper-vigilant (and rightfully so) about keeping an eye on their children when they are outside. It’s sad in a way that the world has to be like that. These days, many activities are indoors (gymnastics, dance, karate) and I wonder if children sometimes miss out on some of the things I experienced as a child… roly polys in the yard, climbing trees, riding bikes on winding trails and experiencing that carefree childhood. Of course, I was a good bit older than my children are when I was allowed to run and play freely.

This past weekend, I watched my two children and their very different personalities emerge. We went in the backyard and the boys played and played. My three year old spent most of his time in the sandbox, scooping up sand and raining it on his head. He enjoyed running his small fingers through the dirt, rolling his cars over sand mountains and giggling at his brother. My two year old ran constantly. He ran from one side of the yard to the other side of the yard. He ran up slides and slid down slides. He dug his hands in the mud and squealed past me as I tried to catch him. He would stop only long enough to take a few long drinks of the ice water I had prepared for him. He picked up bugs and giggled at the hopping frogs. He chased the dogs and grabbed onto their tails. He enjoyed being a boy, being free (as free as you can be in a fenced in backyard).

It was bliss (for all involved).

Gone are the days where I can just grab any old t-shirt and put it on my boys. The little munchkins have grown opinions. Gasp! The gall! Seriously though, it's really cute to see them show me what clothing they want to wear.

My oldest son almost always wants one of his train t-shirts (Thomas or otherwise), swimming trunks or pajamas (and it doesn't matter what time of day) or anything with a train on it. My youngest son loves any type of vehicle, train or car. When I was contacted by Shirts That Go, I let the boys check out the website and each picked their favorite shirt. Of course, Finleypotamus picked the steam train t-shirt. My little Kierbear chose the cement truck t-shirt. Can you imagine how excited they were when these showed up at our door?

I regret that I didn't have my video camera out when I showed the boys the t-shirts. They both got super excited and danced around. My three year old started pulling his current shirt off and grabbing the new one to put on. I kid you not, but my oldest son wore the shirt all day and all night and did not want to take it off the next day. He was very upset that I wanted to put another t-shirt on him and dug this one out of the dirty clothes to put back on again. Today, he insisted I put this t-shirt on him with his Thomas pajama pants. I am so excited to find such cute, boy friendly kids t-shirts. They are super soft and stand up to toddlers and repeated washings (that is when I can get them off of the boys long enough to wash). They really stand out in a crowd and people take notice and ask where we got them.

Whenever I buy something, I always search online at favorite blogs and websites for a coupon or deal that will make my purchase more budget friendly. If I can find a site that offers a way to receive free samples, I am always excited because that means I can try before I buy. Many of my current favorite products were found this way.

People don't want to waste their hard earned money, so companies are smart to offer freebies, deals and coupons.There are a lot of sites out there and sometimes it's hard to navigate them all. Today, I want to introduce you to ItsAllFreeOnline.com. This site offers samples, deals, coupons and giveaways. One of my favorite things about this site (besides all of the savings and freebies) is the clean, easy to navigate layout. It's a breeze to find what I'm looking for when I load the page. If you check out the site, you will see that there are posts on the left that feature the latest offerings.

Well, thank goodness for Facebook. I "like" the pages of companies and websites I frequent. I check Facebook several times a day (mini-addiction maybe?) to see what's new and I love when I see a great deal pop up. Really neat concept, right? The first thing I looked at were unique gifts for Father's Day. I had a hard time deciding at first.

My dear hubby is a computer tech by trade. When this arrived, I was glad it was nicely wrapped because I wanted to open it and give it to him right away. I waited until Father's Day though and it now has a place of honor on his desk at work. It is VERY well made and sturdy and unlike anything mass produced in the stores. Before I got a chance to photograph it, he whisked it off to work to put on his desk. He sent me the photo, at left, from his phone to show it in its new home.

I wasn't sure if these would be my style when I saw them online, but I am glad I took the chance. I love them! The photos don't do them justice.

When my boys started being able to move around the house on their own, the first thing I thought of was, "Is my house babyproofed well enough?"

There are a lot of products out there that will help you baby-proof your home, but some are not too nice to look at. I never really worried about that, because as long as the kids were safe I could forget about fashion. Then I was told I could still have safe products that were stylish. I love how easy they are to install and I am so happy to have these on my husband's desk. His desk is in an open room that is between both of my boys rooms. They run back and forth and without these, I'd be afraid that they would hit their heads or other body parts on the corners of the desk. Of course, it is an office so we don't let them play in there without us in there because there are things little boys shouldn't play with. It's still nice to know that the corners are protected. I would definitely suggest these to friends. I have one suggestion though. I'd love for Rhoost to come up with a product that works with tables that don't have an overhang. My dining room table, my entertainment center and most of my coffee and end dables are all completely square with legs or furniture bodies that go straight down (with no overhang). At present, the Rhoost Edge won't work on those. It's really great for traditional tables and cabinets that have the overhang (like the desk I used it on in the video).

Diaper Pail Test Drive: Arm & Hammer Diaper Pail

Last week, I told you about the Diaper Pail Test Drive I have been taking part in for the last month or so. You can read that post here.

In short, Mom Central offered to send me two diaper pails for us to test out. I was sent a Diaper Genie II Elite Advanced Diaper Disposal System and the Arm & Hammer Diaper Pail by Munchkin. Each week, I switched back and forth. This week, I will tell you more about the Munchkin diaper pail I was sent.

I found the Arm & Hammer Diaper Pail to be easy to use in terms of changing the liner bag. That part was super easy as I just pulled the old one out and popped a new one in. As far as smell control, it kept the stinky diaper smell in. The only time I smelled a bit of aroma was when I opened the lid, same as the other pail (Diaper Genie) I reviewed. I found that changing the bag out before it was full and making sure the opening was clean (by wiping with disinfectant) helped this problem with both pails. I did find myself wishing that this version had a foot petal like the Diaper Genie. I didn't know what I was missing in that respect until now. The lid did stay open nicely though while I put the diapers in and wasn't too hard to open.

The thing I noticed on both of them was that with two kids in size 5 diapers, I had to push pretty hard to get the diapers in and make sure I rolled them very tightly. Smaller diapers would probably drop right in. Going forward, I will be putting one pail in each of the boys rooms as these definitely keep me out of the heat, going in and out to the trash can. If I were to purchase one of these, I would choose the Diaper Genie II Elite for my current needs. With two wiggly toddlers, the foot petal is a big deal maker for me, but the Munchkin pail is a really good pail if you prefer the type that opens with your hand. Both bags were easy enough to change and the refills are widely available.

Everyone has different needs, so please do your research to see which is best for you as there are many diaper pails on the market.

Lighting: Ceiling Fans, Sconces & More

I was just sitting here, having lunch and enjoying the silence while the boys nap and thinking about how our house used to look. We have lived here for four years now and when we moved in, it was much different. The fixtures and fans were very dated (can you believe they had spray painted the living room ceiling fan?).

One of the first things we did when we moved in was replace many of the lighting fixtures and ceiling fans. Lately, I have noticed that a few need to be replaced again. The ceiling fan blades in my husband's office/media room, are drooping and the living room ceiling fan doesn't seem to be cooling like it used to. I started browsing at one of the CSN Stores (a company I have worked with several times in the past) to see what they had to offer.
