Rice and Curry book takes you through Sri-lanka history, culture and it's cusine . The book is written by is Skiz Fernando who is a second generation Sri Lankan-American and graduate of Harvard University and the Columbia University School of Journalism. He has written for the New York Times, Rolling Stone, Vibe, and Spin. He has produced several albums on his WordSound label, and is also writer/director of several films. In 2006, he moved to Sri Lanka for a year to learn about its cuisine and research this cookbook. In March 2009, he was featured on Travel Channel's No Reservations with Anthony Bourdain, where he led the crew to Sri Lanka's hot spots.
In Asian countries atleast in Sri-lanka and in India "Rice and Curry" is the main dish. These curries can be made with either vegetables, fish, meat or chicken. The book starts with the author's introduction with stories about Sri Lankan history, travel tips, spice tips and information on merits of ingredients/ spices and Ayurveda and family recipes that had been tried, tested and passed down to him by the family.
The recipes in the book are accompanied by some lovely photographs of the end results and it is hard to choose which one to try first as they all look so yummy.
He has divided Recipes in to 8 sections such as
I totally believe in eating healthy for my family and so I switched to organic food, no more junk or readyily available meals rather home cooked meals and when I mean family my pet is also included.

I want my pet to eat just as healthy meals and treats as my family does and so I started cooking and bakingfor him until I came across the book "Baking for Dogs" written by Dog Deli. This book is such a wonderful collection od baked recipes for my pet. I have baked Indians, Cheese sticks, Liver Dumplings and my pet has loved all the 3 and soon I plan to try some more.

The recipe in this book are simple and straightforward with minimal things needed. There are notes for variation along with some great obedience and other tips with every recipe.

I love the Glossay part which gives you explanation about your pets likes- dislikes, behavior and what is and not good for your pet. All in all I am very happy with all the 3 recipes I baked as my pet loves it and also I get to make different recipe everytime rather then same old store bought treat and dry-food.

This book is a must have book for all dog-lover...BOW-WOW
Book can be purchased at Schifferbooks.com and Amazon
Initally when we would buy soda I would hate the thought of those plastic bottles that we would throw in waste and I am so much not in plastic so the opportunity to review soda maker was like dream come true.My review after the 1st time I used:

The best part I love about this Soda Maker is it helps environment- how by reducing the plastic bottle you would otherwise use when you buy soda.
The Soda Maker is very much easy to operate for any one. Just fill the bottle with tap water, chill it and get the fizziness as much as you desire after that remove and add syrup, shake and let it sit for 30 mins and your Soda is ready...isn't that just amazing.
Many flavors are available and they all taste great. I have tried cola, root-beer, peach-mango, grape-fruit and even sparkling water flavor- orange.
My Carbonator is not empty yet but where I live I saw 2 locations nearby where I can get it refilled.
Overall, We are really very happy with this product. We make fresh soda everyday when we want to drink and the flavor we want to drink. No mor going to super-market and carrying those heavy 2 litre bottles and "NO" more plastic bottles.

Meena Pathak's Complete Indian Cooking book I received somedays ago for review. I tried couple of recipes at home and must say that the book is really good. the author has covered recipes from all parts of India which I really like. Even though her family owns and runs Patak Masala (Paste ), she has many recipes which does not require you to use or you are rather not forced to buy and use their ready made masala's which I thing is a good sign as I am never happy if I am forced to use a particular brand masala or ready made masala for the curry or dish I make. I like to prepare my masala's which she explains too. She explains the whole cooking process for each dish in detail so even someone who has just started cooking can make a dish with a ease.
Overall I am very happy with the book and think the author has done a wonderful job from starter's to main entree's.
About the Author:Meena Pathak OBE was born in Mumbai, India. She trained in food technology and as a chef with the prestigious Taj hotel group. In the late 1970s, she married Kirit Pathak and they began to grow the family's spices and pickles company in England. Today, Patak's (they dropped the "h") is the UK brand leader in Indian foods, exporting to over 40 countries. A tireless ambassador for Indian cooking, Meena travels the world demonstrating authentic recipes as well as spending time in India researching new ingredients. Meena Pathak Celebrates Indian Cooking, a tribute to 50 years of Patak's, is also published by New Holland. Meena lives in Bolton, Lancashire.
Pros: Book will take you step by step in creating some mouth watering recipes
Cons: None so far
Overall: Good Book
Did you ever wanted a machine which could measure and tell you how much portion to eat to help you in your dieting and controlling carbs? Are you the one who believe in eating in healthy proportion to have a great health?. If you answered " yes" to even one of the questions then you have got the answer to your questions.

Recently, I was sent EatSmart Precision Pro Digital Kitchen Scale and this scale is a wonder. I bake and cook a lot and in baking/cooking it is very important to weigh the ingredients to get good result and this scale works like a magic. It excludes the weight of the bowl by tare feature which is a great plus. I also love the fact that you can measure it in four different unit modes with just a push of a button i.e. grams, ounces, pounds, and kilograms as I cook from different cookbooks which mentions weighing the ingredients in grams or ounces. I also like that even though it is sleek and light and it can still hold upto 11 pounds. It does not require a lot of space either. It shuts off automatically in 3 minutes so the battery life will also be longer.

I have loved working with this scale for it accuracy and features and I am sure you will too!!!!

I have recently been getting lot of praises for my cooking. I am a very good cook however if you get a book with some amazing recipes you can never go wrong and that is exactly what is been happening recently. Somedays ago I had received fine Cooking Vol 2 and Vol 3 and I must sayVol 3 is been my favorite so far. The reason being each and every recipe is different and have never failed, lot of recipes require spices or ingredients which are easily available and all taste as described atleast I think so. The book guides you step by step from measurements to how to cut and make these recipes. Vol 2 is not bad either however I thought they all clled in for same ingrediets and were very simple. Vol 2 may be good for someone who wants to try cooking however Vol 3 will definitely impress people who love to cook like me.

Pros: Vol 3 has many great and diff recipes
Cons: Vol 2 most recipes taste the same
Overall: Vol 3 is a Great Book, Vol 2 is nice book.
The other day when we went for grocery shopping we saw huge king crabs and at that very moment my mom's crab fry came to my mind. Usually in India my mother uses small crab's to fry. I didn't get small ones so I have cut my big king crab's main part into 4 halves and still each of them were big portion.

Ingredient's:

King Crab- 2 (cleaned and cut into 2 or 4 pieces)
Tamarind Past- 1/2 tspn
Garlic- 3-4 crushed
Turmeric: 1/2 tspn
Chilli Powder- 1 or 11/2 tspn ( depends how spicy you want)
Coriander-cummin powder- 1 tspn
Salt- As per taste
Corn flour or Rice flour 1-2 tbspn or as needed for light coating.
Oil- 1 tbspn for mixing and as needed for shallow frying or deep frying

Mix the above inrgedients in 1 tbspn oil to apply it to crab pieces.

You can either deep-fry or shallow fry. If you do shallow fry make sure to fry it a little longer and on all sides till you see it slightly brown on all sides.

Enjoy this delicious crab fry with curry and rice.
