Note: This is super experimental and I have no idea if this will work for you. Even if it does, it will most certainly stop working after the next update.

I think I fixed mouse lag in FFXIV. Turns out that there is a hardware mouse mode in FFXIV, and so I wrote a patch to enable it.

The new patch is available here: http://static.ffxiah…ousePatcher.exe – For game version 2010.09.06.2000 ONLY!

Put the patcher in the same directory as ffxivgame.exe (i.e. in the main FFXIV program folder). Make sure that you have the latest game version before applying the patch (currently the patch only works on whatever the latest version is). Make sure to make a backup of the original, because the patcher won’t do it for you.

After it’s done, you should have smooth mouse action. This DOESN’T fix input lag caused by low frame rate, but it does make the game playable…whereas before I couldn’t stand it.

Please test and let me know if it works for you. If it does I’ll work on a more robust patcher that survives version updates.

UPDATE: If SE updates the game version, you will get an error ‘An update error has occurred – 20524′ as it is applying the patch. When this happens, simply move your backup ffxivgame.exe file back into place and run the game again. It will succeed. After that succeeds, you can re-patch with the new version of the mouse patch above.

Don’t have a backup? I’ll let you slide this time and provide a downgrade patch soon so that your install isn’t broken. Next time, back up!

http://static.ffxiah…seUnpatcher.exe – This is ONLY for downgrading a patched game version 2010.09.05.2000 to unpatched 2010.09.05.2000 for people who didn’t make a backup.

Source is from FFXIVcore posted by SonyFails

Have to give credit on this awsome fix:

I love that…

Took me a day to figure out how to change classes and setup Skills. Crafting is very very diffrent, you almost have to keep a recipe book on your desktop.

To Start off, a little on Mining:

Mining is comprised of looking for a node, then doing a small game to mine it.

This is me about to start mining. You can see two other people mining. SE has tried their best to prevent bots. Allowing multiple people to mine the same spot easy a easy fix. I stood there after I mined this spot. About 20 minutes later I could mine it again.

Once you start mining the little strike circle pops up. you do a game of hot/cold until you either run out of the blue bar or get some materials. Usually the Materials are 2 or more.

Took 2 days for for RMT traders to show up…

In Limo there wasn’t anyone to sell Shields and I think it would take me too long to produce, so I traveled to the second town called Ud’la.

The ferry took a little over 10 minutes with no aparent movement, so What happened is what SE designed it to, me and Katzyn and talked. Was nice to talk to someone in the open beta, everyone was in so much of a hurry

We jourayned together to Ul’dan where I looked for my shield. Unfortunally they wanted 35,000 Gil to get it so maybe not.

Tune in next time when I try to multi-class. Shilien Knight Here I come

Oh and some of you know I have a thing for killing Giant Crabs….

So…im behind, here is the man’s official word:

Once again, we would like to thank you all for your participation and support during the Closed Beta. We will continue to take your valuable feedback into consideration as we develop the game during Open Beta and even beyond the official release.

Now I would like to take a moment to respond to the many questions and opinions regarding the manner in and rates at which experience and skill points are obtained in Beta 3.

Firstly, the concept for FINAL FANTASY XIV was to design a system of character progression that offers meaningful advancement for those with limited time to dedicate to playing. We did not want to create a game that forced people to play for hours on end to see their efforts rewarded. To that end, in addition to the Guardian’s Aspect and guildleve systems, we introduced a means of apportioning swifter advancement to shorter periods of play.

In order to achieve this balance, we calculated a value for the amount of skill or experience points that could be earned in a one-hour period. This theoretical value represents an hour spent engaged solely in combat, levequests, or any other activities that earn skill or experience points, and sets a threshold delimiting how many of these points can be earned in a period of play.

Based on this, we have implemented a “threshold value” concept. These thresholds are regulated by a one-week timer that begins counting down the instant you earn skill/experience points. After a week has passed, the thresholds will reset, and the moment skill/experience points are earned again, the timer begins counting down anew.

For the first eight thresholds during this week-long period, players will receive skill/experience points at the maximum rate possible. The actual amount of time spent reaching these thresholds is not significant. That is to say, a player who exceeds eight hours of gameplay will still be rewarded the maximum amount of skill/experience points, so long as the total amount earned is below the eighth threshold value. For the subsequent seven thresholds, players will earn skill/experience points at a gradually decreasing rate, eventually reaching a rate of zero.

It is worth noting, however, that the reduced rate will also gradually recover while players are engaged in activities that do not yield skill/experience points. In this manner, it is possible for the threshold value to reset completely, even before the completion of the one-week timer.

Any skill points earned in excess of the threshold maximum—that is, at a rate of zero—will be stored as “bonus skill points.” These are specific to each class, so players limited to earning bonus skill points still have the freedom to change classes and begin earning skill points again at the maximum rate, allowing their reduced skill rates to recover in the meantime.

The experience point threshold, however, is unrelated to class, and switching classes will have no effect on the decreasing rate of earnable experience.

This is how the progression system currently works.

This system was not introduced in Beta 3, but has been in place since the beginning of beta testing. There are several reasons why many people believe that these features were only recently implemented:

- Leading into Beta 3, operation hours were extended, making it possible to play more often during the span of a week.
- To encourage players to form guidleve parties in Beta 3, skill and experience point rewards for guildleves were significantly increased.
- The process that reduced the amount of skill/experience points awarded for weak enemies attacking in groups was unintentionally removed at the start of Beta 3. (This issue has been addressed.)

That last reason in particular was the biggest cause for players running up against the threshold penalty, with characters earning far more skill/experience points than we anticipated. We also faced an issue where we were simultaneously unable to adjust the amount earned for guildleves as well as the effects of crossing each threshold.

We sincerely apologize for the lack of explanation and our failure to make the necessary adjustments in the game.

The threshold values are being reexamined, and we plan to further adjust the different rates of earnable points based on feedback from our testers. One of the top issues we are looking at right now is fixing the excessively rapid drop after crossing the eighth threshold. We also plan to improve experience point reduction rates, even more so than for skill points, considering the threshold is unaffected when changing class.

At the very least, we can promise that players won’t be running into the threshold penalty in the same short time span as they did in the beginning of Beta 3.

We would like to take this opportunity to also explain the following issues.

The diminishing results experienced during gathering are a function related to that class alone, and have no connection to this progression system. We are in the process of adjusting this system, and plan to make changes based on tester feedback.

We are currently in the process of considering the means in which bonus skill points can be used. There have been suggestions for various types of incentives, but as encouraging people to play with that in mind defeats the purpose of this threshold system, we will be examining this issue very carefully.

These are not the only adjustments we have planned for Open Beta. As mentioned previously, we are looking into increasing the amount of skill points earned when fighting in a party, and we look forward to seeing your input on these changes.

Last of all, I would like to apologize for the delay in releasing a developer’s comment due to my recent attendance to Gamescom. The article based on my interview during that trip, coupled with conjecture, outdated information, and some misunderstandings on overseas websites, only added to the confusion. In the future, I hope to avoid similar problems by responding directly through official developer’s comments as often as possible. Thank you for your understanding.

See you in the Open Beta Testing!

For some reason they are making it so you can play for 8 hours, then 7 hours a week where you lose 10% xp gain a hour and at 7 hours its a 0% loss. Activation time

You can play each class up to your physical level for the 15 hours then its basically for nothing. So people that play single class and not multi-class will only play for8 or 9 hours then log off until the next week.

According to the Beta Forums this is pretty close:

*Addendum: the version I translated apparently had a couple lines added to it at some later time. This addition may be important for some of you. “Even if you reach the XP limit mid-week, your fatigue will recover in the time not spent skilling up. The one week period is simply a guarantee that it WILL recover then no matter what.”

Well it looks like Mr. Komoto escaped his shackles keeping him in Gamescom away from working on FFXIV, and he has an announcement to make to quiet all the rampant speculation going on. Taken from the JP Beta Test site and translated by me, your friendly neighborhood Savalithos.

We’d like to thank all the beta testers out there for their hard work and support! We’re applying all those ideas you’ve sent us to make for the best possible Open Beta test and official release.

Now we’d like to take a moment to answer the many questions we’ve received about character balance in the current B3 phase.

First off, the main concept behind FFXIV is allowing those players with little time on their hands to play effectively, and game balance is based off of that. Furthermore, it is being designed to not give those with more time on their hands to play an unfair advantage. Because of that, systems such as Guardian’s Favor (a bonus to Guildleves) have been implemented to make leveling in the short-term easier than leveling in the long-term.

To achieve this balance, the amount of possible skill/experience points earned after a certain period of time has a threshold. Think of it as real-life “fatigue” from working at improving your skills via battle *(aka. No one could train ad nauseam in the real world with no ill effects).

Within the first eight hours of play, you can earn 100% experience. The seven hour period following will see your possible experience gradually approach zero.

This system is on a weekly timer. After a week has passed since you began skilling that particular weapon, the timer will reset. It will start anew when you skill up again.

Any experience earned past that point is saved as “surplus.” There is surplus for each class, and if you begin to see it please consider playing another class and adjust accordingly.

However, experience points are not specific to any class and therefore the decrease in experience points is not affected by changing classes.

That’s how the system stands as of right now.

Also, this system wasn’t implemented just in B3 but was set in motion from the very start of beta. Despite this, we have received many opinions regarding it in B3. There are a few reasons why:

-B3 allowed for longer sessions in single sittings.
-In order to promote party play, skill/experience points earned were greatly increased.
-The skill/experience earned from weak enemies was lowered, but had failed to pop up on initial bug reports (and was later fixed via maintenance).

According to the last bug report skill/experience able to be earned was above what had been planned, therefore people hit the limit much more quickly than hoped for. That is the biggest cause. Yet another problem was that we were unable to adjust guildleve experience and the experience-earned limit at the same time.

Our lack of explanation regarding all of this was a mistake, and we heartily apologize.

This all is still currently under development, and we have plans to make the limit more palatable in answer to all the tester feedback we received concerning this. In particular we would like to address the speed with which experience begins to drop off and are already looking into it.
Also, since experience points fatigue carries over despite changing weapons, we plan to make it not so harsh.

At the very least, we promise to not have people hitting these limits in a short period of time, such as during the start of B3.

We would also like to make an announcement regarding something else.

The decrease in earnings when gathering is based on your actions taken with that class and is unrelated to the aforementioned limits. This is also currently under review and is planned for adjustment in accordance with many testers’ opinions.

Surplus experience is currently not being used. However, we have received many comments suggesting some sort of reward be put into effect regarding it, and we think that’s a pretty interesting idea. We don’t want to get ahead of ourselves, though, and we’re currently investigating the possibilities.

Open Beta will not just see changes to the issues stated above but will also see adjustments made to encourage party play even more (such as an increase to skill points), which the team is currently hard at work on adjusting. We hope you’ll all test it out when the time comes.

Finally, we would like to apologize for the lateness of any developer comments due to my attendance of Gamecom this past week. In my absence much fuss was raised over speculation, old information and some mistranslations on overseas fansites *(what?! /panic. Though I wonder what that’s in reference to in particular). I hope to avoid this from happening again by delivering developer comments as promptly as possible. Thank you all for your understanding.

And thanks in advance for your hard work to come in Open Beta!

Final Fantasy XIV director
Nobuaki Komoto

I saw this post today, and get ppl ask me enough that poof here ya go:

-You can get daevanion armor 2 different ways

-The 1st way is that at lvl 30, Heimdall in Pandamonium (don’t know the name of NPC for Elyos) will give you a quest, completing this quest gives you 1 piece of daevanian armor, your chosing, of either Chest, Pants, Gloves, Pauldrons, and Shoes in whatever class finishes the quest, i.e. if your a gladiator, you get plate armor, if your sorcerer, you get cloth and so on for the classes. (note, these are not permenant armor types, i.e. cloth can be turned into plate, more on that later)

-The 2nd way is an uber rare drop in the abyss. They are account bind on pickup so there is no way to trade it with anothe person in Atreia or anything like that. It has also been confirmed that in the instance “Training Grounds” in Reshanta you can also get this rare drop. I myself got my first piece when my Gladiator killed a water spirit in the upper abyss area, got me some plate boots Rumor has it the odds are like 1 in 1000 to get this drop, either way, it is very rare.

You’ll notice the first way only gets you one piece and not all five because the quest at lvl 30 is non-repeatable. With some luck you can get some additional pieces of the armor from drops in the abyss, but this quest is the only garuntee to getting a piece. That said, to attain more than one piece, maybe all 5 if you want, you must create 4 other alternative toons to your main character (total of 5 characters) and level them up to 30 so that they can do the quest themselves. And note, they don’t have to all be the same class, you can always change the armor type (ie Plate to cloth, chain to cloth, leather to plate whatever). While this takes time of coures to lvl to 30 five times, their is insentive.

THE BIG HOOK: ARMOR BONUSES. Thats right, if your toon has more than 1 piece of daevanion armor equipped a special armor bonus is applied. For instance, my Cleric has 3 pieces equipped, Chest, Pants, Shoes, and when i put on the chest i had no bonus, with my Chest and pants equipped i got an armor bonus with stats like MP+ and Physical Defense+ and so on. With my chest, pants, and than shoes equipped i get another bonus on top of the bonus for wearing the chest and pants together. There are a total of 4 bonuses that can be stacked. With all these bonuses applied (wearing all 5 pieces of daevanion armor) it is said that the stats will last you well into the 40′s, and as not bad lvl 40′s armor either. Another incentive is that when you are lvl 50 their is another daevanion armor quest (ive never done it but i hear about it) which requires you to have all 5 daevanian lvl 30 armor pieces. Famfrit’s Edit: The level 50 Miragent/Fenril Armour does’nt require the level 30 Amor, instead requires you to be an “Expert” in one craft. 400 not 449.

-DAEVANIAN ARMOR QUEST: A couple of words on the daevanian armor quest: Go to pandamonium for Asmodians, and for Elyos, the place you go is “lyceum. Specifically, they are either one of the priests in the back room, standing next to the main priest.” (Infernoe). Go there with about 97,000 kinah and full dp. This will save you time and is requred to complete the quest. Heimdall (a guardinfront of the world teleport) in Pandamonium starts the daevinic quest. The 97,000 kinah will be used to buy the “Divine Lamp” item from the Divine accesory vendors (Gerad and Olda in pandamonium). The divine lamp is requred to complete the quest. The full dp is required at the end of the quest and will get you your piece of armor!

-CHANGING ARMOR TYPES: It is very possible and i have done it myself, so this is confirmed. Daevanian armor pieces are account bound, which means you can keep them in your account wharehouse and retreive them from any character (of same race, i.e. elyos or asmodian) on your account. My gladiator got plate chest and plate boots, i put them in my account wharehouse, logged, signed in as my cleric and went to my account wharehouse to retrieve them. Now my cleric couldn’t use these of course because they were plate, so i went to panda (or sanctum) to change it to chain.

-HOW TO CHANGE DAEVANIAN ARMOR TYPE: Go to pandamonium or Santcum and buy “Daevanian Light” (note, this is different then the divine lamp used for the quest) from the divine accesssory vendors (Gerad and Olda in Pandamonium) for about 60,000 kinah. This item is your payment to change armor types. In panda, the NPC’s that will exchange armor types are Narvi and Bor. THe are located next to the HIgh Priest. This is also the area with all the class trainers for lvls 1-25 and the bind obelisk. When you speak with these NPC’s you will see “Exchange middle grade Daevanian Armor grade”. This is the exchange process and you will be asked which armor piece you have in your backpack. You do this one at a time. For me, i told the NPC that i had the plate chest piece in my backpack, and was than asked what piece i want. This is where you can choose whatever type (cloth, leather, chain, plate) and whatever piece (chest, pants, shoes, gloves, pauldrons) you want. I chose chain chest piece for my cleric. Doing this took my Daevanian Light item to complete this process. So to exchange my plat shoes now i needed another Daevanian light. I got one and went back to the NPC, told her i had plate boots, and wanted chain pants. Got it! I then finished my clerics lvl 30 daevanian armor quest and got my chain boots. With the bonus stats the armor has been great! and I can see a signicant difference in my performance as cleric.

DAEVANIAN WEAPON:

Thisis only avaliable to a toon carrying 5 daeva armor pieces. It alsotakes about 100,000 kinah for the Divine item to finish the quest. Thisweapon is of course cool looking and has some great stats.

THINGS TO REMEMBER:

-You can roll 5 different classes, (cleric, gladiator, sorcerer, assassin, ranger, whatever), and complete their lvl 30 daevanian amor quest which will give you chain(priests), plate(warrior), cloth(Mage), and leather(Scout) in 5 different pieces( and which can be any armor piece, chest, pants, shoes, pauldrons, gloves). You can then take these, place them in your account wharehouse, and give them all to one character. This main character can then take all 5 pieces and exchange them for about 60,000 kinah a piece. and get all the marvelous stat bonuses.

-You must be lvl 30 to wear the armor, and to do the quest.

-There is no limit to how many character on your account can wear the amor or to how many times you can exchange the armor types.

-You can get the Daevanian Weapon on any character simply by having them carrying 5 daevanian armor pieces in their backpack and doing the daevanian armor/weapon quest. They can then use this weapon regardless of them using the daevanian armor ever again.

-Daevanian armor/weapon looks pretty freakin awesome on any class!

-Even if one of your character’s wears the armor, any of your other characters (same race) can wear them after another has worn the armor already.

-The armor is manastone socket-able, up to 3 stones at lvl 40 or lower.

-Edit from Gloryah: “Not only is this gear account specific, it is server specific. Thatis, it cannot be transfered to another level 30 character that youmight have on a different server.“ I have not confirmed this myself, but I have heard this rumored.

-Edit from Infernoe: “I did this last night and the NPCs on the Elyos side that you have to talk to trade in your piece is in the Lyceum. Specifically, they are either one of the priests in the back room, standing next to the main priest. One thing to note because I made this mistake myself, you need to purchase the daevanian light, not the divine lamp you buy when you first complete the quest, to exchange pieces. You get like 5k xp also when you trade in pieces.”

So I was in a PUG last night running FT on my SM (i think this sentance has finally convinced me that acronyms are taking over the world).

I was the only member of the group not in a certain legion. They all had vent. I kept hearing them all talk about this ones and that ones volume was not good and had trouble. I shared with them how to Normalize Vent. I realized that everyone should know this. It’s the greatest!! What this does is makes everyone sound the same to you regardless of their settings. It’s automatically adjusts the low ppl high and the high ppl down.

I can’t take credit. One of my guildmates showed this to me and it’s been the best thing ever. So without further to-do here’s how you do it:

You’ll first need to remove any other SFX you have set up for any individuals.

Click your SFX button. Select Compressor and add it (so it appears on the left) then click the properties button so you adjust it’s settings. Here are what you want your settings to be:

Gain: 15

Attack: .001

Release: 500

Threshold: -30

Ratio: 100
