One week ago today numerous EF-4 tornados rolled thru North Pekin, Marysville and Henryville in southern Indiana and West Liberty in eastern Kentucky packing reportedly 175 mph winds causing death and total devastation. Early Saturday morning I traveled just 19 miles north of Louisville to Henryville, Indiana, and the scenes that I witnessed there were mind-numbing. A school bus that truly minutes before the twister hit had been loaded with young school children was thrown inside a local diner. Thanks to the bus-driver-turned-hero, all the children had been taken off off the bus and led safely into the school. Tattooed in my memory is the image of young Maddie Evans as she closed her eyes upon seeing her demolished school, residents crying in horror as they surveyed what (if anything) was left of their homes, people trying to sift thru the rubble and find some type of keepsake that might have been spared and a lone American flag as it flapped in the wind displaying the wherewithall that our wonderful country seems to exhibit in times like these. Please help these residents rebuild their homes, schools, businesses and their lives. The Red Cross has stated monetary donations are the best way to help survivors. In Louisville, Kroger grocery stores are also accepting donations. https://american.redcross.org/site/Donation2?idb=773036675&df_id=4993&4993.donation=form1&gclid=CIvMg6jv2a4CFbAEQAodzTK1d

Snowfall in the Louisville area has been very light this winter. In fact including the .3 inch that fell overnight, we now have received only 2.1 inches for the 2011-2012 winter season, which is far below the yearly 14.7 inch average for the area. Nonetheless, the dusting provided some very beautiful images as captured here by Power Creative Senior Photographer Bill Miller.
