<p>Last week I successfully launched <a title="LinkedIn Traffic Formula" href="http://powerofmore.net/linkedin-traffic-formula" target="_blank">LinkedIn Traffic Formula</a>, a product designed to teach you how to drive traffic to your website, build customer loyalty and nurture that traffic until they become repeat buyers all from LinkedIn.</p>
<p>This was my first major launch and I did it in less than a week!</p>
<p>I learned a lot throughout the whole process and wanted to share with you what I learned in an effort to help you make your own product launches more successful and efficient.</p>
<p>Although the launch was successful, it did not go off as smoothly as I would like. After all, there is&#8217;nt a <a title="Universal Guide To Business Success?" href="http://powerofmore.net/business-development/a-universal-guide-to-building-a-successful-business/" target="_self">universal guide</a> to business success <img src='http://powerofmore.net/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif' alt=';-)' class='wp-smiley' title="6 Essential Tips To A Successful Product Launch" /> </p>
<p>With that said, here is what I learned and will apply to my next major product launch for <a title="Premier Internet Marketing Coaching Program" href="http://powerofmore.net/internet-marketers-elite/" target="_self">Internet Marketers Elite</a>.</p>
<h2>Longer Pre-Launch Period</h2>
<p>As I said before, I launched <a title="LinkedIn Traffic Formula" href="http://powerofmore.net/linkedin-traffic-formula" target="_blank">LinkedIn Traffic Formula</a> in less than a week. Although the launch was successful, 4 days was not enough time to truly build up the necessary buzz and product awareness to ensure the launch would be more successful than it was.</p>
<p>As a result, sales began to trickle in, rather than having several hundred would be buyers salivating at the chance to purchase the product on launch day.</p>
<p>On the internet it is best to give yourself more time to build up buzz about the launch and release small bits of valuable information to keep potential customers interested and wanting more.</p>
<p>Give your potential buyers to little time and you&#8217;ll receive little to no sales come launch day&#8230; Give them to much time and they may forget about your product before it even launches.</p>
<p>A good pre-launch period is 4 &#8211; 6 weeks in advance. 3 weeks is even a decent period, but any less and you&#8217;ll be cutting things awfully close.</p>
<p>This provides you with plenty of time to create the necessary buzz and excitement required to have a more successful product launch.</p>
<h2>Release Content of Value During Pre-Launch</h2>
<p>Provided you have selected a reasonable pre-launch period, the next step is to plan the release of smaller, high valued informational content or products which you give away for free during the pre-launch phase.</p>
<p>This can be a series of highly informative videos, smaller products, ebooks, worksheets or discounts you provide in exchange for potential customers name and email.</p>
<p>This provides value to your potential customers while building your email list at the same time.</p>
<p>Each piece of free content you release during your pre-launch phase should build the greater value of the overall larger product you intend to provide on launch day. In other words, you want to provide value with your pre-launch content that leaves customers wanting more and looking forward to the launch of your product.</p>
<p>You should schedule the release of this smaller, high valued content throughout your pre-launch period. This allows you to continually communicate about the launch to your email list while providing them with something they want in return.</p>
<p>It is also a great way to build your email list, establish trust and build customer loyalty.</p>
<h2>Sell The Event Not The Product</h2>
<p>Here&#8217;s a little something I learned for <a title="Project Mojave by Clay Collins" href="http://www.projectmojave.com/blog/" target="_blank">Clay Collins</a>, <strong>sell the event, not the product</strong>&#8230;</p>
<p>Now this is something that I did do for the most part during the launch of <a title="LinkedIn Traffic Formula" href="http://powerofmore.net/linkedin-traffic-formula" target="_blank">LinkedIn Traffic Formula</a>. However, because I did not give myself enough of a pre-launch period, there was not enough time to effectively build buzz about the launch day.</p>
<p>Of course you need to provide great products, which I&#8217;ve done with <a title="LinkedIn Traffic Formula" href="http://powerofmore.net/linkedin-traffic-formula" target="_blank">LinkedIn Traffic Formula</a> (Believe me its fantastic info!) However, if you&#8217;ve built up enough buzz about the event, i.e. your launch day, then the product will sell itself!</p>
<p>It is human nature to get excited about an event.</p>
<p>Steve Jobs of Apple, knows this all to well. He has an expert marketing team who is amazing at selling events and not their products. Sure Apple produces great products.</p>
<p>Take the iPhone for example. Apple produced a great product and come launch day customers were lining up overnight to get their hands on the iPhone. And with each subsequent release of a newer model, again customers line up overnight to be the first to get their hands on the new product.</p>
<p>If customers know when the event is, i.e. your launch day, and you&#8217;ve provided them with enough value during the pre-launch phase, they&#8217;ll be lining up at the door ready to buy your product.</p>
<h2>Clearly Define Your Sales Funnel</h2>
<p>Before you even begin to release a new product to the world, you must first determine what steps your customers must go through for them to get their hands on your shiny, new thing.</p>
<p>Clearly defining your sales funnel from start to finish will ensure your product launch goes off without a hitch.</p>
<p>How are your customers going to get to your sales page and what will they do once they are there? What happens when the customer clicks the &#8220;Buy&#8221; button? Are they taken to your <a title="Powerofmore.net recommends 1ShoppingCart" href="http://powerofmore.net/1shoppingcart" target="_blank">shopping cart</a> or a registration page?</p>
<p>Knowing the sales process in advance will help you direct potential customers and convert them into buyers.</p>
<h2>Kill All The Bugs</h2>
<p>It is inevitable that you are going to have bugs or issues along the way. The main point here is you&#8217;ll want to do everything you can to reduce any glitches that may occur.</p>
<p>When I launched <a title="LinkedIn Traffic Formula" href="http://powerofmore.net/linkedin-traffic-formula" target="_blank">LinkedIn Traffic Formula</a> everything seem to go smoothly. That is until I discovered that some of the videos had been encoded improperly when I converted them for display on the internet. As a result, I&#8217;m had to re-record some of the videos to ensure smooth playback for my customers.</p>
<p>Had I done a better job of reviewing these videos, I would not have had this issue come launch day.</p>
<p>Regardless, my customers have been very understanding and patient and for that I thank them. They are a great group of people!</p>
<h2>Create a Release Schedule</h2>
<p>It is important to note that you do not need to have all the content created if you are releasing an information product. Common practice is to create a minimum of 10% of your overall info product such as videos, ebooks or workbooks and make it available on launch day.</p>
<p>This is how most successful membership websites are done.</p>
<p>Create 10% of the initial content first, launch and then schedule the release of additional content throughout a release schedule. This works well if you&#8217;ve communicated to your customers that you will be releasing the content on a set timeline and it will keep them coming back for more.</p>
<p>It is also a fantastic way for you to generate the necessary revenue to create the additional content or products. It is called &#8220;sequential learning&#8221; or &#8220;linear release&#8221;.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s where customers pay for access to your membership website with the understanding that the content will be released on a timeline and requires them to first view the initial content before being allowed to access more advanced information.</p>
<p>Again, this works well for membership websites where you are releasing information products.</p>
<p>The very nature of <a title="Premier Internet Marketing Coaching Program" href="http://powerofmore.net/internet-marketers-elite/" target="_self">Internet Marketers Elite</a> requires I do this simply because it is a coaching program that contains a significant amount of information.</p>
<p>To ensure my customers get immediate access to the knowledge and info they seek in a timely and not so overwhelming manner, I need to create a release schedule. Otherwise, it could take 6 months to a year to create all the content.</p>

<p>Recently, I&#8217;ve been doing a lot of traveling between Kansas and Texas, as well as throughout Texas. Â I like to drive when I travel because it gives me a lot of time to think and reflect on both business and my personal life.</p>
<p>During my latest trip to visit friends in San Antonio, Texas I had an unusual realization.</p>
<p>You see, I noticed that while other states, such as Oklahoma and Kansas, were reducing the number of rest stops they operate and maintain or had very few rest stops in general, Texas on the other hand was beefing up their rest stops and adding more.</p>
<p>This got me thinking, why is it that Texas isn&#8217;t following suit with the other states?</p>
<p>Then it donned on me, Texas is the 2nd largest state in the United States behind Alaska. Not only that, the Texas economy has not been hit as hard as most other states by the recession, their economy is thriving.</p>
<p>Armed with this knowledge, I then realized that it would not be beneficial for Texas to neglect their rest stops given the vast size of the state, and the Texas government knows it.</p>
<p>You see, with such a big geographical area to cover and the second largest population in the United States, Texas needs to ensure it accommodates its travelers as they traverse the state. Other states on the other hand do not have the same geological area to cover and therefore it would not benefit them to maintain as many rest stops as Texas.</p>
<p>Texas is doing what is right for them and what works best for the specific needs of its population.</p>
<h2>How Does This Applies To Business?</h2>
<p>I&#8217;m sure you might be asking how this applies to running a business?Â Well, that answer is remarkably simple&#8230;</p>
<p>You see, no matter what type of business you operate, there is always someone out there giving advice on how to best build your business successfully. I&#8217;m sure you&#8217;ve seen or heard a number of methods on how to best build your business both online and off. There is always some new tip, trick or method to making you or your business a success.</p>
<p>With so much information being flung at you, it is easy to get caught up in the next big trend or method that is guaranteed to make you a success. Over time, you find yourself constantly applying the next big technique over and over. This can become a huge distraction from your original goal and lead to failure.</p>
<p>Like the state of Texas, it doesn&#8217;t make sense for you to do what everyone else is doing. Just because others say it will make you a success doesn&#8217;t necessarily mean it is a fit for your business.</p>
<p>The key is to have an open mind and only apply what you believe is best for you and your business. Each business is different and it doesn&#8217;t make sense for you to be something you&#8217;re not.</p>

Your business is unique and although you have competitors who may be successful, doing business in the same manner that your competitors do may not work well for you.</p>

<p>The simple act of adding a welcome video to your LinkedIn profile which directs visitors to the most relevant and important areas of your profile has a powerful effect on your visitors.</p>
<p>Here are a few things you can do within a video to help boost your LinkedIn profile and drive traffic to your website:</p>

<li>Welcome visitors to your profile and thank them for viewing it.</li>
<li>Direct visitors to the most notable and relevant information on your profile.</li>
<li>Let visitors know they can learn more about you and what you do on your website.</li>
</ul>
<p>These are only a few ways you can use video on LinkedIn. Be creative, but must importantly be clean, professional and let viewers of your video see your personality.</p>
<h2>1. Add Google Presentation App</h2>
<p>The first step to adding video to your LinkedIn profile is to install the <a title="Google Presentation App" href="http://www.linkedin.com/opensocialInstallation/preview?_ch_panel_id=1&amp;_applicationId=1400" target="_blank">Google Presentation App</a> from the application directory on LinkedIn.</p>
<p>Log into LinkedIn to edit your profile and click the &#8220;Add Application&#8221; link to add the Google Presentation App to your profile. If the &#8220;Add Application&#8221; link does not appear, click the &#8220;See All Applications&#8221; link displayed in the bottom right corner of the &#8220;Featured Applications&#8221; box that is displayed on your Edit Profile screen by default.</p>

<p>Find the Google Presentation App and install it.</p>

<p>With this app, you can create presentations that allow you to showcase yourself, your company, your work and more using a Google Docs Presentation. One of the unique features of a Google Docs Presentation is the fact that it will allow you to insert video into your presentations.</p>
<p>This app, will then allow you to display your Google Docs Presentation from within your LinkedIn profile.</p>
<h2>2. Record Your Video</h2>
<p>Using a handle held video recording device such as a Flip camcorder or a Kodak Zi8, record your welcome video. The video should be less than 60 seconds in length. Be brief and get to the point quickly.</p>
<p>Make sure to welcome visitors to your profile and point them to the most important and relevant areas of your profile to help them get the information they are seek quickly. Tell visitors that they can learn more about you and what you do by visiting your website. Maybe even give away a secret tip that the visitor may find valuable.</p>
<h2>3. Upload Your Video To YouTube</h2>
<p>If you don&#8217;t yet have a <a title="Powerofmore.net on YouTube" href="http://powerofmore.net/youtube" target="_blank">YouTube</a> account, now would be a great time to get one. Feel free to friend me on YouTube and subscribe to my channel <img src='http://powerofmore.net/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif' alt=';-)' class='wp-smiley' title="How To Add A Welcome Video To Your LinkedIn Profile" /> </p>
<p>Once you&#8217;ve finished with your welcome video, upload it to YouTube. If you&#8217;ve never uploaded a video to YouTube before, not to worry the process is very simple and easy. Just make sure your video is less than 10 minutes in length.</p>
<p>Once you&#8217;ve uploaded your video to YouTube, be patient as YouTube processes the video for display on their website. This can take several minutes.</p>
<h2>4. Create Your Presentation</h2>
<p>Now that you&#8217;ve installed the Google Presentation App within your LinkedIn profile, recorded your video and uploaded it to YouTube, you can now login to Google Docs and Create a new &#8220;Presentation&#8221;.</p>
<p>Google Docs allows you to create PowerPoint type presentations for free, online. One of the unique features of a Google Docs Presentation is the ability to insert YouTube videos into your presentations.</p>
<p>From within Google Docs, create a new Presentation:</p>

If your video does not come up in the search results, not to worry, YouTube hasn&#8217;t finished processing it yet. Simply wait a few minutes and try to insert your video again.</p>

<p>Select your video from the search results and click the &#8220;Select Video&#8221; button to insert it into your Google Presentation.</p>
<p><strong>Important: </strong>Next use the transform handles (the little white squares on each corner of your video) to resize your video to take up the entire area of the presentation slide.</p>

<p>Resizing the video to cover the entire slide ensures the video is properly displayed when you add it to your LinkedIn profile.</p>
<p>Make sure to give your presentation a recognizable name and save it.</p>
<h2>6. Insert Your Video Into Your Profile</h2>
<p>The final step to adding a welcome video to your LinkedIn profile is to configure the Google Presentation App you added to your profile earlier to display the video.</p>
<p>Log back into your LinkedIn profile to edit it and find the Google Presentation App displayed on your profile in edit mode to add your new welcome presentation to your profile.</p>
<p>Click the &#8220;Click here to change the presentation on your profile&#8221; link to edit the presentation. If this link does not appear, this may be a result of you not having a current presentation on your profile as I currently do. If that is the case, the link will be something similar to &#8220;Click here to add a presentation.&#8221; Not to worry, this is very simple to do!</p>
<p>On the edit presentation page, select the newly created Google presentation you just created. You may be asked to log into your Google Docs account at this point so the application can fetch a list of available presentations from your Google Docs account.</p>

<p>One thing you can do to ensure your video is seen is to move the video up on your profile. I like to have my video as one of the first things visitors will see when they visit my profile.</p>
<p>LinkedIn allows you to rearrange content on your profile giving you the flexibility to display what you want. You may need to remove and re-add other applications if your video appears at the bottom of the application stack.</p>

<p>Many internet entrepreneurs and small business owners have the understanding that they should use Google Analytics to track the traffic that is flowing to their websites, but they don&#8217;t have a true understanding of why they need to do so.</p>
<p>Sure it&#8217;s neat to see how much is flowing to your website and watching it grow. Traffic, however, does not make you money unless you know how to direct it to the areas on your website that are designed to convert it into buyers.</p>
<p>Here are some tips to think about that can increase your bottom line the next time you view your Google Analytics account.</p>

<p>Google Analytics not only tells you how many hits, visitors or pageviews your website received, but it can also tell you where those visitors came from. This is highly important as it helps you identify which sites are sending visitors your way. Knowing this allows you to focus your efforts on increasing the traffic from those sources.</p>
<p>Dive deep into the various sources of your coveted website traffic to discover what was most effective. Each source will have peak days where they provided the most visitors. Identify those days to determine what you did on your site that day to cause the larger influx.</p>
<p>Not only can you determine who is sending traffic your way, you can determine if it is high quality and targeted.</p>
<p>For example, <a title="Connect with me on LinkedIn" href="http://www.linkedin.com/in/powerofmore" target="_blank">LinkedIn</a> is the 3rd largest provider of traffic to my blog behind Google and direct traffic. <a title="Follow Me On StumbleUpon" href="http://www.stumbleupon.com/stumbler/powerofmore/" target="_blank">StumbleUpon</a> comes in a distant 4th. The difference between my Google visitors and my LinkedIn visitors is only 50 visits. However, through Google Analytics I discovered that LinkedIn visitors stay on my blog twice as long as my search visitors and 10 times longer than traffic sent from StumbleUpon.</p>
<p>As a result, I focused a majority of my attention to LinkedIn in an effort to cultivate the higher quality traffic the site was sending me. This never would have been possible without the help of an analytics service such as Google&#8217;s.</p>
<h2>2. Identify Keywords</h2>
<p>If you get a lot of <a title="Search Engine Marketing 101" href="http://powerofmore.net/search-engine-optimization/" target="_self">search traffic</a> from Google as I do, Google Analytics will help you identify the <a title="Search Engine Marketing With Keywords and How To Use Them" href="http://powerofmore.net/search-engine-optimization/5-simple-skills-to-master-search-engine-marketing-keyword-usage/" target="_self">keywords</a> that visitors to your site are using when they conducted their search. Knowing this information will help you to fine tune your keyword usage to further cultivate your existing and new traffic.</p>
<p>Some of the keywords being used to find my blog are combinations I never would of thought of without Google Analytics.</p>
<p>Knowing what keywords are being used to find your site will help you increase your search ranking. And the more website traffic you have the more money you can potentially make.</p>
<h2>3. Know Your Content</h2>
<p>I&#8217;ve applied <a title="Search Engine Marketing 101" href="http://powerofmore.net/search-engine-optimization/" target="_self">SEO techniques</a> to every bit of content on this blog so you would think I would know which blog posts are going to receive the most eyeballs.</p>
<p>Well, not so my friend!</p>
<p>Google Analytics will help you to discover which of your valuable content pages are receiving the most visits. This will allow you to expand upon the topic further as well as determine what it is about those pages that is working so well and apply it to other pages.</p>
<p>You can take your high traffic pages and create a resource page which provides links to them making it even easier for visitors to find these pages as well as for search engines to index and rank them. I&#8217;ve done exactly that with my <a title="How to Create a Rockin Facebook Fan Page" href="http://powerofmore.net/facebook-fan-page-101/" target="_self">Facebook</a> and <a title="Drive Significant Search Traffic to Your Website" href="http://powerofmore.net/search-engine-optimization/" target="_self">Search Engine Marketing</a> content and still have many others to do.</p>
<h2>4. Create Goals</h2>
<p>One of the most important parts in running a successful internet business is knowing how to control the flow of traffic that visits your website and direct it to the pages that will convert those visitors into sales.</p>
<p>Creating goals within your Google Analytics account will help you do just that!</p>
<p>Goals can been multilevel spanning a complete sales funnel. They can begin on the product page and track the users behavior all the way through the purchase confirmation page.</p>

Where as direct visits is 23% along with search, also at 23%.</p>
<p>Much of the referring traffic I&#8217;m receiving is from my own social media marketing efforts, to include social networking sites and backlinks from other websites or blogs.</p>

<p>Google Analytics provides a fantastic tool to help you determine which links are driving the flow of traffic on your website the most. This is extremely useful if your have monetized your site allowing you to see how well your call to action buttons are functioning.</p>
<p>You can see which links visitors are clicking on the most as well as how many clicks it received. This information will help you better organize your navigation features for your site to better direct traffic to the areas that are designed to convert those visitors into sales.</p>
