Even though the magnificent tree on the Old Town Square seems a bit lonely without the traditional Christmas market around, Prague’s residents keep bringing joy and hope to it’s streets, making this year’s Christmas atmosphere all the more special .

Charles Bridge Residence

If you stay over in Bohemia Apartment’s residence Charles Bridge at Smetanovo nabrezi, you can enjoy nerby walks by the Vltava river, on the river islands, Kampa or in Petrin park. Moreover, there are many outdoor events taking place at Strelecky ostrov or Kampa that you can comfortably enjoy with your pet as well.

Vodickova Residence

The huge advantage of Vodickova residence in Vodickova street are spacious terraces, that both you and your dog will appreciate for your stylish breakfast or afternoon siesta. Despite the bustling streets of the city centre, the apartments are quiet and cozy.

Nearby you can take a walk at Charles Square (which is by the way very close from our Vladislavova residence as well), or you can set off for Prague’s Vinohrady district, where you can for sure not avoid meeting new doggie friends pretty much anywhere on the streets, in the cafes, and of course in Riegrovy sady (Rieger Gardens) that both you and your dog will fall in love with. A lot of greenery, beer garden and georgious sunsets make the park one of the favourite chilling spots in Prague.

Apartments Vodickova no.2 and Vodickova no.4 are modern, spacious and offer a nice terrace situated into the courtyard.

This spring will be challenging for the whole world. It is wonderful to see how many people can function normally in a crisis, and some even help those in need. But not everyone has to play the hero, sew free surgical masks for hospitals or join volunteers at the test centers. Many got sick, lost a job or stayed isolated from friends and family. It is therefore important to help yourself to find your balance and keep mental health. To do that:

1. Create your own routine. People addicted to diaries, planning calendars, labels, and markers are now in their element, but now it is time for all of us to use their methods. Especially when working from home, systematicity is essential. Try to draw up a table of “10 quarantine development points,” while keeping in mind leisure activities as well.

2. Self educate yourself! I think we all have some wishlist of skills we have always wanted to learn. The current situation encouraged many organizations to release their online courses for free so we can finally learn a new language, play a musical instrument, take artistic photos or be a better businessman, etc. Countless professional courses are offered by the Ivy League elite private colleges or you can sign up for The Open University and study any field you want. 

3. Build a Renaissance ideal and, besides education, try to stay physically active even at home. Fortunately, there is nothing easier than to watch and practice one of the thousands of instructional videos. 4. Read a real paper book. Generally, people read quite a lot, various work materials, contracts, news, advertising messages, social media posts, tutorials and so on. Those messages affect our emotions somehow and lately, it could be overwhelming. Novels can make a reader experience a different reality, which may be better than the present one. 5. Think ahead. All this will end once, and the whole world will return to the usual habits. Underground

Underground is the most commonly used transportation by both tourists and locals in Prague. Czechs call it the metro. It has only three lines so it is not hard to find one’s way around. Our apartments are located in the center of Prague so the most important stations for our guests are in the central intersection where all three lines are crossing.

Line A is green and the most frequented stations are Mustek and Muzeum. They are located on the opposites sides of Wenceslas square. Besides that, they are both interchange stations so you can step off on several places depending on the line type. The station Mustek on the line A has exits on the northwest (lower) side of Wenceslas Square and in its center at the foot of Jindrisska and Vodickova streets. Get off on the stop Mustek if you are staying in an apartment at Vladislavova street. However, the closest exit leads from the yellow metro line B. This is where Bohemia Apartments also have its headquarters. If you want to set off on the left bank of the river Vltava and explore the surroundings of Prague Castle, we recommend you to reach the Malostranska stop.

Our Charles Bridge apartments are best achieved by getting to the station Narodni trida (National Road) on yellow line B. The National Theater, the popular Shooting Island and the park on the embankment of Vltava river Kampa are also within easy reach here. Provided that you are staying in an apartment at Vodickova street, the stop Karlovo namesti (Charles Square) may be closest to you. If you arrive in Prague by bus, you will start your journey on the stop Florenc. Take the stop Namesti republiky (Republic Square) and visit a shopping center Palladium or have a walk through the old coronation route starting from Powder Tower. 

Red line C is going through the main train station. Apartments at Jindrisska street are located opposite the main train station so the easiest way to get there is by using line C to the station Hlavni nadrazi (Main train station). Another popular tourist place is Vysehrad (Upper Castle) which has its underground station as well. Besides that, this line encloses the triangle and takes you again to bus station Florenc (also yellow B) or National Museum (green A).

Trams and trains

The next scheme combines all types of railway transport that means underground, trams, commuter trains (marked S) and even cableway leading to Petrin Hill. Trams are the second most used type of transportation in Prague. In the closer city center, there are not many bus lines available. With the same ticket, you can use all available means of Prague integrated transport even the mentioned cable railway.  

Nightlife

The transport offer in Prague changes after midnight. The underground is closed from 0:30 am till 4:30 am so you can use night trams and buses. Night traffic lines always start with number 9 that means trams are marked in the range of numbers 91-99 and buses 901-915.

The travel app

If you are not confident in orientation in maps, the easiest way how to find your travel direction is to download free transportation app called PID Litacka. Vítkov

The hill dividing Karlín and Žižkov is famous for its statue of Jan Žižka that overviews the whole metropole. It is the world´s third largest bronze equestrian statue of this man who defeated catholic forces led by King Sigismund in 1420 in the Battle of Vítkov Hill. There is also a monument that includes the Ceremonial Hall, an exhibition entitled Crossroads of Czech and Czechoslovak Statehood and other exhibition halls. To Vítkov you can get from Žižkov or Karlín and once you get up there (270 meters above the sea), you get pretty epic view. You can see Florenc, Strahov situated on the opposite side of the Vltava. On the left (when looking in the same direction as the statue) there is Žižkov and on the right beautiful Karlín.

Letenské sady

Letenské sady and precisely Prague´s Metronome is a place to be if you want an epic view in the middle of the city. From Náměstí republiky you can get there by walking in 20 minutes. Famous monument of Stalin had been standing there but it was demolished in 1962. Now you find a art piece by sculptor Vratislav Novák called Time machine. During your walk up the hill you can meet many young skaters and Prague´s hipster. Once you get up there, you will be charmed by Prague´s beauty. River, bridges, Old City, Dvořák´s riverbank, metropole´s rush and vividness. We are sure you will enjoy this place!

Bohnice Podhoří

Podhoří is a rocky natural reservation with important geological conditions and lies on the right part of Vltava. Its rocky precipice lead up to 100 metres and there are many animals, insects and plant under national protection. From rocks headlands you can see Prague´s part Sedlec. The biggest proportion of view belongs to Prague 6. The dominant of this view is for sure Prague´s castle.

Petřín

We have mentioned Petřín not that long ago here. Petřínské sady are the most beautiful during spring when local trees cover in beautifully smelling pink and white blossoms. It becomes magical and the place to be when you hunt proper romantic spot. Nevertheless amazing view is available all year long. We promise you won´t regret getting up that hill.

National Museum

National Museum is a true beauty. It is one of the most important buildings in Prague. It has been listed as part of its national heritage since 1962. Unfortunately it is closed from 1st to 28th of February due to operational reasons but if you come to Prague later be sure to visit. During operations you can at least admire the magnificent building from the outside. Next to Historical Building Of National Museum there is a New Building Of National Museum. The building has a very interesting history because it served at first as the Prague Stock Exchange (1938 to the arrival of the occupational forces), then as the parliament (1946–1992), radio studio (1995–2009) and at present it is has the function of a museum. Also worth a visit!

Charles Bridge and Prague´s Castle

The city of Charles Bridge and Prague´s Castle. For some Prague is just about these two places. And they are for sure wonderful. You expect it to be very busy and crowded there? You expect it right – just try to come in the morning or before noon. Or solve it very elegantly and book a stay in our Bohemia Apartments with a view over Castle and Charles Bridge like this one.

DOX

A bit of culture is always welcomed, right? DOX is a unique and worth-seeing place  not only because it belongs to private businessman (not a state institution) but also because of the mixture and quality of exhibitions. Being visited by around 80 000 people per year, tourists count for around half of it. No surprise, DOX is one of a kind. You may have seen the big airship flowing around the Instagram – to be precise it is a unique monumental architectural intervention, inspired by the elegant shapes of early twentieth-century airships on the rooftop of DOX.

The Klementinum Library

Klementinum is situated next to the Charles Bridge, right in the historical centre of Prague. Klementinum, built on area of 2 hectares, is one of the largest building complexes in Europe. It has a long and rich history and to this day is an important place of culture and knowledge. Some reviews on tripadvisor say: A trip to Prgue without seeing the library is s stupid as paying for a cinema visit if you are blind. TRUE! Klementinum is a diamond in the world of libraries. Just visit and see yourself.

Petřín Hill

Ohh, the magic you sight when you beat the hill Petřín Hill! Worth every step and breath. If you are not a fan of hills you can take a funicular. It links the Malá Strana district with the top of Petřín and regular public transport ticket is valid there. Up the hill there are many beautiful historical buildings, statues and gardens. The most visited is Petřín observation from 1891 which is 5x smaller imitation of Eiffel Tower in Paris. If you get bored from the (epic) view you can savour other entertainments like Petřín´s maze, Hungry Wall or Štefánik´s astronomical observatory. Also statues of Czech celebrities are to be found (like Karel Hynek Mácha or Jan Neruda.).

U Černého vola

Very simple, very cheap and very well-loved. It is an old school pub that is worth a visit if you fancy feeling authentic atmosphere. It has an excellent Pilsner tank beer which is probably the world´s most famous Czech beer. Some reviews also say you get “the best Kozel in Prague” but you be the judge of that. But be aware it is not loved for its food, we would suggest to pass on that. Otherwise U Černého vola is a hidden gem that won´t disappoint.

Klášterní pivovar Strahov

This place has a long history – it was firstly opened in 17th century. Since that it has been restored and reopened. The current state of craft brewery has been making people happy since 2000. It also includes restaurant and courtyard. Beer? Epic! Food? Amazing (try pork ribs). And the atmosphere? Unique and recommended. Another amazing part of this place is its staff – they make you feel welcomed from the first minute on. Overall we have nothing bad to add.

Lokál

Lokál is a chain of Czech restaurants and pubs situated across Prague and Brno. It belongs to Ambiente group and we have already mentioned here. Everyone loves it there and so do we. Lokál´s fried cheese with potatoes is the guilty pleasure we love to enjoy very often. And accompanied with local tap beer? Perfect combination. Lokál´s bartenders know what they are doing. They love beer as much as they love to prepare it for you. It is not the cheapest place to get drinks and food but you have a certainty you will experience something nice.

U Kunštátů – Craft Beer In Old Prague

U Kunštátů is a popular tourist spot because it is right in the city centre. You can look forward to huge selection of beers (even some gluten free Celia ones). The wait staff is tentative, friendly and helpful with beer recommendations. Prices are on a higher side (we would compare it to UK ones). If you are a real craft beer lover and you’re not sure if you should believe tourists reviews, this a safe choice.

Galerie Piva or Pivo a párek

These places situated in Vršovice and Královské Vinohrady are both very well loved and visited by locals. Whole Prague 10 and Prague 2 comes there to satisfy thirst. You can get a lot of bottled beers (IPAs, lagers, dark ones, gluten-free ones and everything between). Also you can choose from multiple tap beer options and drink it in or outside the pub/shop (perfect in spring and summer months). Owners support smaller beer businesses and buy products from small(-ish) brewers. A pint of beer costs around 70 CZK which is more than usually outside the city centre but it is worth it.

Food = Love

La Bottega Linka and La Bottega Tusarova are both Italian bistros of famous Riccardo Lucque´s and they are both the best Valentine´s day choice.  You can buy either the whole romantic menu or order just a few dishes. After you read this, go straight to reserve a table there. Otherwise you may not get in. Another tip is Wine Food Market we have already written about here.

If you want something sweet, we recommend either Cukrárna Myšák of Ambiente situated very close to our apartments – always a great place to go for typical Czech desserts – or IF café which is well-known for local desserts. Second mentioned has more branches but we suggest you to choose the one in Werichova vila. Beautiful space, you can believe us!

Let´s walk together

Walks are very romantic when you choose the right way to follow. We would suggest those not-so-well-known because those famous (like Charles Bridge) are going to be filled with people. Not very cozy and romantic to be squeezed among thousands of people, right? Then choose Kampa we have already written about in this article. Other cute and romantic peaceful location is New World (aka Nový Svět), the part of Prague where the times had stopped.  Picturesque nooks with crooked small streets and cute tiny houses look like from the other period of time. That not-stressed, not-busy period.

What to do next?

Running is love! And event Valentýnský běh takes it to another level. On 17th of February you can run with your loved ones in Stromovka. Hand in hand. Starting at 11:30 runners will run 5 kilometres. No charge required, event is for free. You can register from 28th of January on. Let´s run together in the name of Valentine´s day and love.

Ice-skating in Letenská pláň is going to be very romantic as well. The whole programme is ready for dating lovers. You can join some competitions on ice, enjoy activities outside of ice-skating rink like photoboothing or throwing at target.
