Survey says Kitchen and Bathrooms still Top Remodeling Jobs

It comes to no surprise that more homeowners are choosing to remodel their homes rather than move into a new home. And the top projects from these remodeling projects remain kitchens and baths.

The National Association of Home Builders conducted a new survey that found remodeling projects have increased since a similar survey they did back in 2010. The new survey indicates that nearly 50% of remodelers reported that they hear homeowners who want to renovate in order to avoid moving.

The survey also found that kitchen and bathroom remodeling projects are up 17% from two years ago, with bathrooms holding on to the top spot since 2009.

“As the priorities of home owners shift, remodelers have to adjust to the needs of their clients,” said NAHB Remodelers Chairman George “Geep” Moore Jr., “And while the motivation behind a home owner’s decision to remodel may have changed, their desire for quality, professional results have not. Professional remodelers remain committed to the highest industry standards.” - nahb.org

According to a recent survey that was conducted by the American Society of Landscape Architects, the trends in outdoor living spaces for 2012 accommodate lots of entertaining, but is also an undemanding space.

When it comes to outdoor living trends, Americans want that same indoor comfort just with an awesome view of the great outdoors. That is why outdoor spaces like kitchens and dining areas are becoming quite popular. The outdoor kitchen is a wonderful addition to any landscape because it does not separate you from the action when entertaining. Plus, there is no need to cook ahead of time and re-heat, the fresher the food, the better the taste.

Outdoor features that Americans also love are fireplaces, firepits, pools and water features. Having a variety of these features in the landscape allows one to enjoy their outdoor living space all year round.

The Four Seasons Contractor Lawsuit finally Ends

If you have been keeping up with the Vail news, you probably know about the lawsuit between Layton Construction and Barclay Capital. To catch you up to speed on the case, here are some key points of the court case according to The Vail Daily:

Black Diamond Resorts defaulted on a $20 million loan from Barclays Capital. After that, Barclays took a “more active role” in construction. Barclays fired Layton construction, replacing it with Hyder Construction. So at the time of firing, Layton said it was owned $30 million and sued Barclays. Barclays claims that Layton caused all sorts of expensive delays and countersued for almost five times the amount. The court case has dragged on for just about a year now with the trial finally ending on Friday, April 27th 2012, and the last pleadings for the case are due in July.

This case has gone down in Eagle, Colorado history as the most expensive and extensive case in the county. For more information on the case, visit www.vaildaily.com.
