Artist Gary K. Mukai, owner of G.K. Mukai Studios and Precision Goldsmiths in Wailuku was named Designer of the Year 2005-2006 by the Hawaii Jewelers Association. The winning piece, "Shore Break," is an 18-karat yellow gold pendant set with a black opal accented with diamonds. (The versatile Gary had one of his oil in this year’s Art Maui purchased by the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts.)
