This is a live bat removal in Newton Massachusetts. This is a juvenile male small brown bat. (Very typical this time of year)
This bat appeared in their living space, flew around for a few minutes, and then disappeared.
The customer could not locate it, so they called us, Precision Wildlife Services, to see if we could help. The customer was confident they had that bat confined to one room. When I showed up at the house I was not too sure if I could locate the bat. It was mid morning and bats normally sleep during day light hours. After the customer showed me to the room that the bat was in, I was even less confident I would locate the bat. The room was a spare room and it was a little cluttered.
After roughly 3 minutes, I got lucky! While rummaging through the clutter I located the bat between a pair of snow boots. The bat was removed and released outside of the customers house. Upon further inspection of the attic space, I located evidence of a colony. After discussing my findings with the customer, they were eager to evict these bats A.S.A.P.! A few days later the exclusion was performed on the house and the bats were gone within 3 days.

Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island Cape Cod

What we are looking at here is a bat one-way cone that was installed at an active area located next to a stone chimney. If you look closely, you will see a bat that is roosting on the outside of the cone.
This is a rare sight!
While we know our tactics to keep the bats out of the house are effective. It is not common to see a bat that was not able to get back inside still "hanging around".
It is not uncommon though for us to find evidence that bats have been roosting.
We receive quite a few calls from existing customers that find bat guano (droppings) on their chimney or on the ground where that bats had used to gain access to the home in the past, prior to the bat exclusion being performed.
Bats are a creature of habit and always return back to where they originated from. For this reason, when treating a structure for a bat problem, it is imperative the entire structure be sealed. If this was not the case the bat you see here would not be "hanging around " on the outside. It would be back inside the voids of the structure continuing to scratch and squeak away, reeking havoc.

<link rel="related" href="http://www.precisionwildlife.com/batremoval/index.html" title="Hanging Around!
Isolate the bat to one room or area of your home

Do not touch the bat, bats are considered high risk carriers of rabies

Secure the base of the doors to that area with towels

Contact Precision Wildlife Services, the bat specialists for removal and further inspection services.

Precision Wildlife offers emergency service to most of Eastern Massachusetts including Boston and Cape Cod. We also have working relations with other bat specialists across New England and will be happy to refer them to you if we cannot respond or you are out of our service area.

Please contact us immediately to speak with a bat specialist.

Do I have a bat colony in my attic if I had a bat in my living space?
Occasionally bats will enter through chimneys, a/c units, and open windows but the majority of bat invasions are due to the fact that there is a colony residing within the structures of you home. Bat colonies will not always be in plain view within attics as they can, and often do colonize in soffit, and ceiling voids that make evidence of bats minimal and the sightings of them unlikely. Call Us to thoroughly inspect your home inside and out.
Precision Wildlife offers bat inspections and bat removal services.

Why does a bat invade my living space?

There are a few reasons why bats invade your living space.

During the months of June and July juvenile bats are learning how to fly and becoming more mobile in there current habitat. They become investigative and curious and will wander away from colonies sometimes only to lose there way and end up in your living room.

Also during the hot days of June, July, and August attics sometimes actually become less than inviting for a bat colony. Bat colonies will crawl under insulation and into cooler areas of your homes internal structure to escape the high temperatures. Movement of any type will always increase the chances of a bat mistakenly wandering into your living space.

Winter bats, bats that gestate inside attics all winter, also look for the most ideal location in an attic for the cold winter months. They to will often crawl under insulation in search of proper elements for winter semi-hibernation.

Bats can also enter homes through window a/c units and chimneys and be considered a fluke. Many consumers will generally believe this to be there situation because it is the easiest explanation to swallow. If a bat has entered your home an inspection by a bat specialist might prevent further headaches in the future.

The family had been away for a vacation and had just gotten back home. When they walked in, they couldn't believe their eyes! They were so upset that they immediately called the police department, thinking someone had broken in. The police came to investigate and found the house pretty much trashed! Cabinets open, boxes of food open and half eaten, things knocked all over the floor and broken. It looked like someone had ransacked the place!
After further investigation, the police find animal droppings and then investigate the chimney and they see a tail hanging down and immediately know who the "criminals" were!

It was raining and dark or Casey could have taken some great video and pictures, but to hear him tell the story, you know it was a very amazing site to see this mother keep her pups from harm.
But if you have not had that experience you should feel blessed that you haven't. A defense mechanism for a skunk, its odor, is just as distinctive as it black and white appearance. Skunks are similar in size to the common house cat normally weighing 6 to 10 pounds. They have pointed snouts and small, triangular heads with a white stripe on their nose and forehead. Normally their coat is black with a white stripe running down the middle of their back and splits into two stripes down a skunks tail. On occasion skunks can be predominately white called albino skunks. A skunks tail is wide and bushy and can be completely black or vary in the amount of white stripes that run down the tail. Skunks have short legs which causes their noticeable waddle and categorizes them as poor climbers. Although skunks have short legs they have rather strong forefeet and long nails making them excellent diggers. It is possible that a skunk or skunks become trapped and if they cannot dig another way out they will certainly die under your home or affected structure. When a skunk does become deceased the muscles that, holds in the oil which produces the dramatic odor, releases allowing the oil to leak out and cause a constant and overpowering smell from the skunk. Understanding that skunks burrow very deeply and out of reach of predators and animal control officers justifies the difficulties that might follow for dead skunk removal. Deodorizing services will help but the source of the odor almost always needs to be found and removed.

*It is significantly easier for a live skunk to walk out of its den and be trapped by a professional that it might be for a professional to become trapped in a skunk den.

If you have a skunk problem and want to eradicate it yourself your best to consult a wildlife pro.

Tick Removal
Spring is here and the ticks will soon be showing their heads. Here is a good way to get them off you, your Children, or your pets. Give it a try.

"I had a pediatrician tell me what she believes is the best way to remove a tick. This is great, because it works in those places where it's sometimes difficult to get to with
tweezers: between toes, in the middle of a head full of dark hair, etc."

"Apply a glob of liquid soap to a cotton ball. Cover the tick with the soap-soaked cotton ball and swab it for a few seconds (15-20), the tick will come out on its own and be stuck to the cotton ball when you lift it away. This technique has worked every time I've used it (and that was frequently, and it's much less traumatic for the Patient and easier for me.."
"Unless someone is allergic to soap, I can't see that this would be damaging in any way. I even had my doctor's wife call me for advice because she had one stuck to her back and she couldn't reach it with tweezers. She used this method and immediately called me back to say, "It worked!"

They say it's good luck if a bird poops on you! Well I'm wondering how one owner of Marciano Stadium's luck has been since his direct hit last season, and I'm not talking about a foul ball.

Owners of this stadium no longer have to worry about being pelted by the birds that have decided the stadium is as good as theirs. All the patrons who attend will also feel so lucky that they to will not be targeted by the angry birds of Brockton, unless the birds retaliate due to the netting that keeps them from where they once called home.

Sometimes luck has nothing to do with it but when lucks not on your side a little hard work attention to detail will do. Facilities manager and owners of the stadium have decided to move forward on a long-term solution to their bird problem and not just settle for time consuming and ineffective control measures. Precision Wildlife has the solution which includes; stainless steel hardware properley attached to the stadiums stucture to ensure the solution will that for many years to come as well as bird netting that carries a 10-year manufactures UV warranty.

So next time your attend a game at Marciano Stadium with any luck you'll remember to look up to see our work and be thankful that we may have prevented a bird from pooping on YOU!

Pest bird problems on commercial buildings are solved by Precision Wildlife with innovative and proven methods. Simply applying spike and fake owls to perching and roosting areas just doesn't cut it. We provide custom solutions for our clients using the best materials for each.

What is histoplasmosis?

Histoplasmosis is an infection that varies in symptoms and seriousness. It usually affects the lungs. When it affects other parts of the body, it is called disseminated histoplasmosis.

Histoplasmosis [his-toh-plaz-MOH-sis] is a fungal infection that varies in symptoms and seriousness.

Histoplasmosis usually affects the lungs and causes a short-term, treatable lung infection. When it affects other parts of the body, it is called disseminated histoplasmosis. Disseminated histoplasmosis can be fatal.

The histoplasmosis fungus lives in soil, especially soil that is enriched with bat or bird droppings.

People get histoplasmosis when they breathe in dust that contains the fungus.

Histoplasmosis is treatable with fungus-killing medicines.

To prevent histoplasmosis: 1) avoid exposure to dust from soil that might be contaminated with bat or bird droppings, and 2) avoid disturbing accumulations of bat or bird droppings

Bird Mites

Bird mites parasitize a wide variety of domestic and wild birds, including poultry, pigeons, starlings, sparrows and robins. These mites normally remain on birds or in bird nests throughout their life. Mite eggs are laid in nests or on feathers. Hatching occurs in two to three days and adults are seen about five days later if birds are present.

However, if a bird falls out of a nest and dies or a nest is abandoned, bird mites seek other hosts. These mites may enter homes, sometimes in large numbers to search for food when nests are on or in buildings. Although bird mites often bite people, circumstances have been described where they are found in large numbers but do not appear to annoy anyone.

Boston Bruins

Cottontail rabbits of one sort or another are found in every state in the U.S., even as far as north as southern Canada where the dreaded Canadiens play to as far south as Central America!.

Wild rabbits normally live on average 2 years except for the Easter Bunny of course. Full grown, they typically weigh 2 to 3 pounds and are less than 12" long but I do believe the Easter Bunny is much taller.

Wild rabbits will eat your precious flowers and vegetables and can damage trees and shrubs by clipping stems, buds and small branches and by girdling larger trees. Keep your garden and landscape protected by trapping only if deemed necessary with box type traps, if you are not permitted to trap in your state we can help! Click here

Other ways to keep those pesky rabbits off your plants and flowers would be some natural deterrents. Garlic juice is one way to keep them away and is probably easier to access when compared to soiled litter from a cat that preys on wild animals like mice, voles and other wildlife.

Other options for you may be a pen type fence made simply with stakes and chicken wire.

Again we can help with trenching or fencing. Click here

Wild Rabbit Removal Falmouth, Ma

This Wildlife Rabbit was removed from a home in Falmouth, Massachusetts as she and its family were living under their home and nesting in the crawl spaces. The odor and destruction they were causing made the customer realize they needed help. After we completed our trapping program we trenched the perimeter and screened the structure. This certainly will keep the rabbits and other wildlife out for many Easters to come.

Mice are a very common pest for many residents and are often treated with lengthy trapping and baiting plans by most pest control companies. Baiting services are meant to eliminate or control the population of mice that currently reside in a specific dwelling but do not provide for a long term solution. If you eliminate the mice that have become nuisance but do not treat areas of their entry then you have only provided yourself with temporary mice control.
*In some cases baiting services might be the most feasible option due to the condition of a home. Mouse proofing can be tedious and detail oriented work in turn making baiting services more cost effective for some customers.
