A lot of recent press has been given to DIY (do it yourself) website platforms. Just last week I read an article in our local paper about how Intuit has partnered with Google to offer "free" websites to small businesses. This might be a great opportunity for the 50-percent of small businesses in Northeast Ohio without a web presence. BUT ... most people don't realize that these websites aren't really as "do it yourself" as they claim to be.

I haven't done a post on print design for a while. But I was working on new logo concepts for a client today and started thinking about what logos mean for business. Not literally "what they are" ... anyone can look up the definition ... but why you should have one, and why you should make sure it truly reflects what you're all about.

You're ready to take the plunge and have a new website designed for your business. You've done your research… found several companies to interview… and then BAM! You're faced with a decision that you don't fully understand. "Do you want a CMS?" Huh?
A couple things we need to keep in mind about modern-day Internet users: Our expectations are very high… And our patience levels are very low. We want our information FAST. We want to be able to find what we need in a matter of SECONDS. And if your website isn't offering visitors those two key things, then you're probably missing out on a lot of potential business.

How secure is YOUR Facebook profile? ... Do you even know where to find your privacy settings? These are questions every current user should be asking, especially since Facebook likes to change the rules without telling anyone. I'm sure many of you just assume Facebook would take every precaution necessary to protect its users. Unfortunately, that isn't the case at all. And when you throw 3rd-party apps into the mix ... profile security goes right out the window.

Think back a couple years… to a time without Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc. Seems hard to imagine. How did we even survive back then?

I started thinking about that as it relates to my business and came to the realization that I am addicted to social media. There — I said it. But the fact of the matter is that we DID survive without social media… and a lot of our businesses were extremely successful. Why? Because we actually took time to communicate with our clients on a more personal level. We made phone calls, met for coffee, even sent personal notes… and that was how we knew what was going on in each other's businesses.

The New Year always brings a sense of commitment… to do the things you've been putting off, both personally and professionally. A lot of people make new promises to lose weight, to be a nicer person, or just FINISH one of the tasks they started the previous year. The same is true for business owners like myself. We look at new promotional ideas and ways to reach our target audience. However, one major thing that is often overlooked is the "first impression" prospects and customers have with our business — its website.

Premier Designs is excited to announce the re-launch of its company website, which offers an improved user experience, more industry-specific content and social media integration. The most visible improvement is the site’s layout, with its clean design and enhanced portfolio section to showcase specific areas of expertise.
