The Sun, the Moon, and the Coming Spring!

Our wonderful Creator, in his magnificent splendor and awesome wisdom, made the sun to warm us, the moon to brighten our nights, and also designed the earth to rest and reawaken with Spring. As we ponder these amazing truths, celebrate them with your children with the help of the Preschool Post’s January lesson plans on the sun, moon, and planets. These lessons offer simple ways to teach your children fundamental early childhood skills, while incorporating truths about our amazing God. While you’re there, we hope you enjoy our February lesson plans, which are all about fun, favorite stories, and fairy tales. Happy Spring and the Very Hungry Caterpillar Day

Thursday March 20th is The Very Hungry Caterpillar Day, honoring the 45th anniversary of Eric Carle’s classic book, and celebrations will be happening around the world. What a perfect time to teach the little ones about our awesome Creator! We have a fantastic lesson plan in our May curriculum that utilizes The Very Hungry Caterpillar, so why not have a look at it now and plan your “Caterpillar Day” festivities!

While you’re at it, take a peek over at our sister site, Groovy Storytimes, for some more unique Bible-based lessons that are organized around a story hour format. We have story times covering a wide range of popular children’s books and lots of different themes, from loving your neighbor to watching out for bad words, from winter storms to African Maasai. Hi everyone! Hope all of you have been enjoying our January lessons, teaching children all about the sun and moon, day and night, shadows and light, and giving God the glory for all of it! February is just around the corner, and we have your Valentine’s Day lessons covered. We have a great Valentine’s Day lesson in the February curriculum of the Preschool Post, and over at Groovy Storytimes, I have a lesson on Unconditional Love that explores the connection between parental love and God’s love for us, based on the scripture posted above. Trains – a new Story Time lesson

There’s a new story time lesson up at the Groovy Storylady’s blog! Using the timeless story of the Little Red Caboose, this lesson encourages little ones to believe they can make a difference, even though they’re small. This full story time lesson plan also includes a second story for longer story hours. The second story, What’s for Lunch, by Joanne Bader and Arch Books, retells the story of the boy with the loaves and fishes, and reiterates the concept of children being able to have important roles.

Matthew 19:14: “But Jesus said, ‘Allow the little children to come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of Heaven.’ ”

God’s Promises

Need a little faith-booster? Take a moment to remember God’s faithfulness. Even as we witness terrible events such as the devastating tornado in Oklahoma, violence, and unrest in many parts of the world, we often grow discouraged and fearful. And although I can offer no quick answers as to why bad things happen, I know that we have a God who loves us, is outside of time, and sees the end as well as the beginning. And this powerful God promises His faithfulness to us. As we seek Him in humility, He promises to never forsake us.

I’ve published a new story time lesson over at Groovy Storytimes about Noah’s Ark and the promise of the rainbow. What a wonderful way to teach children about God’s faithfulness and covenant with us. Take a moment to check it out, and have fun having story hour with your children!

Unconditional Love

1 John 3:1a “Think how much the Father loves us. He loves us so much that he lets us be called his children, as we truly are.” (CEV)

With Valentine’s Day approaching, we have a perfect opportunity to teach young children about God’s love for us. I have a new storytime lesson up over at Groovy Storytimes. This lesson uses the story about a parent’s love for his child, and the child’s insecurities about that love, as a springboard for discussing our relationship with our Heavenly Father.

Enjoy the lesson with your children, and remember how much we are loved, even though we are imperfect and weak. The famous children’s song really does sum it up best:

“Jesus loves me! This I know,
For the Bible tells me so.
Little ones to Him belong;
They are weak, but He is strong.”

Happy Birthday, Jesus! A new Story Time plan that celebrates the Reason for the Season

Christmas is just around the corner! As we hustle and bustle and try to get everything, do everything, and make Christmas everything we think it is supposed to be, let us pause and remember the reason for the season. And let’s remember to teach our children the real reason we celebrate so much this time of year!

I’ve just posted a new Storytime on my blog, Groovy Storytimes. It’s a fully-developed, ready-to-go lesson plan that teaches preschoolers all about Christmas with a birthday party for Jesus! Kids will love the festive party theme, while parents and teachers will love instilling the truth about Jesus being the reason for our bright Christmas celebrations.

Be Thankful and Content! A Story Time Lesson about Greed

Hi everyone! It’s Lynn here to wish you all a very happy Thanksgiving, and to let you know about a new preschool lesson I’ve written to help our children understand more about what it means to be content.

As the holidays approach, we are continually bombarded with ads that tell us all the things we need to be happy, popular, and more like everyone else. Last year’s toy or gadget is no longer enough, we need this year’s latest and greatest. Our world seems to be about nothing more than eternally seeking all-elusive contentment, like a carrot dangling in front of our noses, demanding more money, more time, more energy, but never really delivering on promises to give us real satisfaction.

It’s bad enough when we as adults are subjected to such constant deceptive chatter, but more than ever, our kids are being assaulted by the world’s false promises for contentment.

1 Timothy 6:6 (NKJV) teaches that “…godliness with contentment is great gain.” At my blog, Groovy Storytimes, I’ve put together a new lesson on teaching young children how to be content, and the consequences of greed. Hebrews 13:5 (ESV) admonishes us to “Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” This time of year is the perfect opportunity to explain how important it is to be content and focus on God.

Enjoy this fun lesson with your kids as you strive to remind them of God’s love for us and His wish for our total dependence upon Him, which will give us REAL contentment.
