We don’t just say we’re eco, we measure it.

Using the internationally recognised Greenhouse Gas Protocol, we calculate the Eco Barn’s carbon footprint every year. In 2025, the results showed:

• 2.0 tonnes CO₂e (location-based)
• 1.1 tonnes CO₂e (market-based)

That second number is the most meaningful, and it’s impressively low for UK holiday accommodation.

Powered by renewable energy

The Eco Barn runs on clean, low-carbon energy systems designed to minimise impact without compromising comfort:

• Solar panels generating electricity on site
• An air source heat pump providing efficient, fossil-fuel-free heating
• A renewable electricity tariff supplying green energy

The result?
Zero direct fossil fuel emissions on site.

So when you turn on the heating, take a hot shower, or charge your phone, you’re doing it with minimal environmental impact.

This makes your stay at the Eco Barn a climate-conscious choice from arrival to departure.

Understanding our carbon footprint

You might notice we report two carbon figures — here’s why it matters:

• Location-based emissions reflect the average UK electricity grid
• Market-based emissions reflect the actual renewable electricity we purchase

Because the Eco Barn uses a green energy tariff, the market-based figure (1.1 tonnes CO₂e) is the most accurate reflection of your stay.

We’re lucky to be located in an officially recognised Dark Skies region, ranked among the very lowest levels of light pollution as measured by the Earth Observation Group and NOAA National Geophysical Data Centre.

From our rural outpost on the North Pembrokeshire coast, this means spectacularly clear, bright views of the night sky. In Visit Pembrokeshire’s Dark Skies stargazing guide, Garn Fawr is highlighted as one of the best stargazing spots in the county. Gathered around a crackling bonfire with a local brew, with old friends and new, why not journey into the depths of the cosmos? You’ll struggle to find many places in the UK where the stars shine quite so vividly. We work in partnership with the National Trust and Pembrokeshire Coast National Park to protect wildlife and habitats. Please follow the Canine Code: keep dogs on leads near livestock and cliffs, give wildlife space (especially ground-nesting birds and seal pups in autumn), bag it and bin it, and stick to paths where requested. “We have just returned from an amazing break at Loom Cottage. The cottage was a real home from home and a great base for exploring the local area. The large garden meadow area at the rear of the property was perfect for our pup to run around. Sophie was a great host and provided an extensive guide for amenities and places to visit, including pubs/cafes that were dog-friendly. On one of our days away, we walked the coastal path from Abercastle to Porthgain and had fish and chips and a pint from the recommended Shed Bistro. Probably the best fish and chips we have ever had! Our pup loves to run on the beach and play in the surf, so we made the most of visiting all the local beaches. Whitesands and Newgale beaches are vast and sandy. From Whitesands beach we climbed Carn Llidi and the views were great. Our favourite thing about Loom Cottage was the short walk from the cottage through woodlands to Abermawr Beach, we did this everyday. We absolutely loved our stay and can’t wait to return!”

It was once the preferred landing point for Isambard Kingdom Brunel’s transatlantic telegraph cable, and the valley’s embankments, paths, and streams were originally crafted in the 19th century as part of the Tregwynt Estate’s manor grounds. Today, they form a charming and quiet route to the beach.
