Installation

Installation process is almot similiar to the previous version but there’s additional requirement for MCrypt (for encrypting purposes) as this will replace  Blowfish.

As for the database engine, now we can choose either to use InnoDB or MyISAM.

Which engine you’re going to use is likely depend on your needs. As the reference, for the comparation between InnoDB and MyISAM, you can read the article here and here. Those link can you help you decide which engine you are going to use.

At the final step of installation, you can choose the Main Activity” of your store. This will help the main focus of the store and probably related with SEO (Search Engine Optimization).


Store Locator

If your store has physical location, this feature will help customers locate your store, especially if you have many outlets/branches.

This feature utilizing Google Map API v3.

Product Comparation

This features is finally available in Prestashop for free : The feature to compare products side by side. Can be very helpful for customers to compare products.

One page checkout

This feature will simplified the checkout process. In the previous version, customers must pass the 5 steps prior to checkout but now they can be happier to have only one page checkout.

Upload file in contact form

There’s additional upload file feature in the contact form.

Login Form

A nice and fresh login form to the back office is now available:

As you can see, Prestashop 4 has so many exiting features that we can use to optimize our store. But since it’s not recommended yet for production, we have to patience at the moment.

Installation

  1. Download the module, extract and upload to the modules folder.
  2. Login to the backoffice, go to Modules Tab and find Member Alert module in the Tools group.
  3. Install the module (no configuration needed).

When new user register in the website, email notification will be sent immediately to site admin.

Installation

  1. Download the module, extract and upload to the modules folder.
  2. Login to the backoffice, go to Modules Tab and find Twitter Widget modules in the Block group.
  3. Install the module. It will attach to the left column automatically.

Configuration

  1. Click the configure link, and fill the twitter username, avatarsize and number of tweets displayed.

Prestashop module to display popup news when users opening the website. Useful to display news or announcement.

This module has been tested on Firefox, IE8, Opera, and Chrome.

Notes : To change the style of the popup box, just modify the splash.css

For this purpose, if you are using PC/Notebook using Windows operating system, we can use WAMP (application that runs Apache web server, MySQL database, and PHP scripting language on windows based computer) such as XAMPP, AppServ, etc.

Installing AppServ

In this post, we wil be using AppServ. Download AppServ and follow the instruction below:

Activating mod-rewrite

To use Friendly URL feature in Prestashop,  we need to activate mod_rewrite in our Apache :

  1. Open httpd.conf file in C:\AppServ\Apache2.2\conf
  2. Find text that contains mod_rewrite (in line 196)
  3. Delete “#” (without quotes) so the line would be look exactly as the picture below.
  4. Save and restart Apache service.

Congratulations! now you have a working WAMP on your PC. In the next article, we will start installing & configuring Prestashop.
