Patriotic song written right after 9/11

This song was inspired by the tragic events of 9/11, written about 6 months after. The lyrics are positive and embrace and exemplify our freedoms and racial equality in America: “America, sweet liberty, free to live your life, every race, whatever your faith, are equal in her eyes!” – These Colors Don’t Run is a positive song about America as well as an anthem that we will not lay down – we will not be defeated! “The stars and stripes will fly forever”. This is a song you can sing being proud of America: all for which she stands… as well as that she stands strong!

JJ (Sheryl) was born in Napa, California. Raised in L.A., Sacramento and Oregon. From a very early age, JJ was interested in music and acting, couldn’t keep her hands off of the keys of the family piano when she was four years old. Paying for her own classical piano lessons by working part time, she quickly mastered the keyboard. Then, she proceeded to learn flute, guitar, violin and ukulele. She also participated in numerous plays in high school, loving the live stage.

JJ took some time off to be a full-time Mom, raising her two children, Will and Laura. The music bug never went away, however, and after her children were 10 and 11, she again began writing and performing music, only this time, she was not just content to play classical, but began immersing herself in all styles of music.

Today, with her husband, Michael Beachwood, JJ Preston lives on Maui, and pursues a very versatile career. She performs live, writes, produces and records in the couple’s Maui studio, and is active in live stage work. Her biggest theatre project on Maui to date was her role in Maui Light Opera Company’s 2003 play, Phantom by Maury Yeston, directed by John Langs, from Los Angles, California. It received excellent reviews from Broadway critics.

JJ’s current emphasis is with her music career, writing and recording her songs, and creating music videos with Maui as the most gorgeous backdrop one can imagine. Her styles include classical, pop, rock, hip hop and Hawaiian songs!

The various musical talents of Michael Beachwood contribute to a very unique style. Michael’s roots are country, but very early in his career broadened to many different styles and textures in his writing. Always seeking to sound fresh and unique from song to song, he creates bright and innovative compositions in many various styles.

Michael has an innate sense of theme, variation, formula and timing which results in commercially oriented material, yet not always predictable. His lyrics are always thoughtful and meaningful, ranging from love, loss, hope, happiness, spirit, animal rights, environment, religious and so on. Michael finds himself ever the empath, understanding and seeing both sides of almost any issue or subject, and thus writing about it as though having gone through it himself.

As you will see, he is a versatile, talented singer-songwriter who has gone beyond his original goal of being a superstar performer. (Don’t we all want that at first?) He is now enjoying all of the multiple facets that today’s music business has to offer… producing, arranging, scoring and immersing himself in the incredible new technologies of multimedia!
