Group Management tips

We all know that we can join only 25 groups, which according to me, and probably to most second lifers, is a problem. There are so many good designers, and 25 groups is just not enough to stay up to date with their latest releases. The weird thing is that I haven't come across somebody to have discussed about this issue. It wasn't a long time ago when I just didn't know which groups to join and which ones to leave. Thats why I decided to share my tips on how I managed to stay in control of the groups I'm joined in.

1. Join the Fashion Consolidated group. Most designers post notices in this group.

2. Join the Savoir Hair group. Its just like Fashion Consolidated, but only for hair.

3. If you are at a bar, club, etc., and you get invited to join the group (happenst mostly at parties), do join if you like, or if you do not wish to seem rude, but leave it immediately after you leave the place. There is no point of joining groups like that, unless you plan to go to other events they organize.

4. Some designers invite you to join their group after you have purchased something in their shop. If what you have purchased is the only thing you like from the designer, just click on decline without thinking twice.

5. Join the Fashion Emergency group, but only if you don't mind a lot of group chat. The group was created for its members to help each other with whatever fashion related issue they have. Don't expect notices in this group, but instead, do expect a lot of info from the group members concerning new releases, hottest designers and items, sales, freebies and getting advice on anything fashion related.

6. See which are your favorite designers, and then check if they have blogs. Most of them do. Subscribing to their RSS feed is a great substitute for joining their groups, since whatever notices they send, they also post them in their blogs. Also, most of the SL blogs are syndicated into Fashion World of SL and World of SL. So subscribing to these two feeds is all you need to stay informed. Also you can subscribe to the Fashion Feed of SL

7. In case you are a freebie hunter, do leave at least one extra space in case you find out of a group members only freebies.

Well, this is how I managed to stay on top of the groups I'm joined in. I even have 2 spaces left to fill in. So I hope this helps you too.

Online petition for Intellectual Property Rights Protection in SecondLife

The petition is for changing the Second Life Terms of Service "to disallow creation and use of objects that are intended to circumvent object permission as established by the object's creator". There are few existing objects/scripts that can change the permissions of objects created by somebody other than the current owner. The problem is that these scripts can be easily abused, even though the primary reason for their creation is not to assist in content theft and there is no violation of the ToS by the creator. It the ToS is changed, then probably the number of cases where theft has occurred will be significantly lower. The petition only requires your Second Life name and email address, which you can set to private to your convenience. And it only takes few seconds of your time. Just follow the link below:

Be very cautious all you fashion clueless avs, because the Second Life Fashion Police is always on the lookout for new victims. If you are noticed, run, i.e. TP, as fast as you can, unless you want to receive the bashing of your life.

Somebody was ought to teach those fashion freaks a lesson. The girls are absolutely hilarious. No hair on their tongue, that's for sure. And the best thing is that apart from getting a good laugh, you'll be also getting tips on how NOT to look like in SL. Actually the biggest reason why I checked this blog out in the first place is to see if by any weird twist of fate I'm there. And thank god I'm not. Not that I was worried that I would be there LOL.

So if you happen to see a fashion disaster, do send them an email. The more fashion crime reports, the merrier :D

Bershka

Finally I got around to continue writing about Bershka. As I said previously, the clothing is extremely inexpensive. The most expensive item costs L$40. The clothing here are preppy, formal and elegant, consisting of mostly tops and jeans/pants. Very few skirts and shoes, no accessories, and also I don't recall seeing any dresses. The clothes are good quality, very simple, nothing extravagant, mostly plain colored, though with good design. This makes them perfect for combining them with almost anything you got in your inventory, even with more extravagant pieces, so you can still keep your sense of style.

Bershka in SL

I can't believe how lost in space I am. I have been in SL for few years, and I just found out that one of my favorite RL brands has a sim in SL. My closet is cramped with clothes from Bershka since this store is like a blessing for my wallet. Cheap, but extremely, totally amazing clothes. The same goes for their virtual store. I just couldn't believe how extremely cheap they are. All the clothes are around L$30, which makes them perfect for newbies and tight budgeted fashionistas. But to my big surprise, the whole sim was creepily empty. Totally deserted. I was the only one there, FFS!!! Sooo unlike the RL store, in which you have to wait for half an hour at the cash register (at least here in Thessaloniki, GR). Two snapshots to present the eerie emptiness:

Content theft - the fight continues

Few days ago, the Intellectual Property Rights Awareness Campaign was launched in order to promote awareness and educate as many SL residents as possible about content theft and its consequences. For this purpose, several ads were made that feature some of the well established content creators that were victims of content theft - Tigerlily Koi and Haedon Quine of Calla, Minnu Palen of Minnu Model Skins, Sachi Vixen and Damen Gorilla of Adam n Eve, Caliah Lyon of Muse Fine Jewelry, Nyte Caligari of Nyte'N'Day, and Stroker Serpentine of Strokerz Toyz. You can join this campaign and help reaching fellow SecondLifers by picking up your IP rights campaign kit, which can be found on OnRez, as well as in-world. You can distribute the ads to your friends, to other content creators, to your group members, rez them on your land, post them on your blog, post them in forums, etc, etc, etc. There are so many ways, you just need to get active and let your imagination run wild.

In the previous post I was whining about how my PC is acting weird on me and that I cannot take photos. Well, it was all my fault. I FORGOT TO INSTALL THE LATEST DIRECTX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now how dumb is that?!?!?!? I had a very very old version instead. Anyway, this means that I'll be able to continue blogging afterall. YAY!!! Still the photos are far from perfect and a bit of too pixely for my taste, but they are not so disastrous.

Now, isn't this sooo much better :D:D:D

I REALLY, REALLY NEED A NEW PC

I know I was supposed to post this a lot earlier, and I apologize for that, but here it goes. Because of my crappy laptop, and because SL hates me and is getting worse and worse for me (PC requirements wise), I have to pause working on this blog for a while, or at least posting photos. The photos from the last few posts (Another Shop skin mods by Imperial Elegance, Mourning Glory, and Do a good deed today - donate to charity) were taken from my bf's PC, but unfortunately he doesn't get his butt off his PC, so if I want to take photos, I either need to stay up all night, or wake up at abnormal times like 5 or 6 a.m. to do my work. So just as a demonstration so you can understand my decision better here are two photos of the same hair by GuRL 6 - one taken by me and the other one taken from the GuRL 6 blog:

I think that even a blind person can spot the difference here and realize that the photos that I can take are beyond photoshopable and cannot be repaired in any way. If you do know of a way, pls I beg you to let me know, since I am a Photoshop newbie and know only the basics, just enough to feel comfortable working with it.
Anyway, till I get a new PC, which shouldn't be too long, I will not make any reviews, post new fashion finds, or anything like that that requires photos. But this doesn't mean that I will be lazy ass and sit on my bum all day long. I will occasionally make posts, but they will be without any photos, which I oh so love to take *cries*. In the meanwhile, I'll be working on my new blog SL Street Snaps. You can read the blog info there, since I really do not wish to repeat myself. The best thing is that it does not require large amount of time, so I can really devote to it. Any SL fashion blogger knows how long it takes to put an outfit together, choose the right poses, the right background, retouch the photos in Photoshop if necessary and in the end make sure that all the info is correct. Although it is a time consuming task, especially for a newbie blogger like me that still learns the "art" of blogging, it is still a very enjoyable one. Well, the new blog eliminates all this things and gives me more time for exploring and hunting down fellow fashionistas, which is another thing that I love to do.
So this is basically a summary of what is going to happen till I get a new PC. Most importantly is that this is not gonna stop me from shopping, so when the new PC arrives, there will be a lot of posting for me to do, and a lot or reading material for you :D. Also expect to be dazzled (well I hope you will), since the blog is going to get a complete makeover. I am working on a layout, which is coming out quite nicely, and I will also spice up the old posts with more photos.
OK, I think its time to wrap this up, and let you go on and read another fabulous fashion blog :D:D:D.

GLAM SL Magazine has finally arrived!!!

I have been waiting for this moment sooo impatiently, since I first got the notice. And now its finally here. And I didn't waste a moment to start browsing its pages. I got to say I am pretty damn impressed. It is probably the most professional SL fashion magazine to date. And its only the first issue.

I just got two objections. Its just too short to satisfy my appetite (which is on incredibly high level, so you can just scribble this out), and its got far too many advertisements compared to the amount of other content. Apart from this, content wise, I think they did their homework and pass with flying colors :D. Nice articles, great interviews. Even now I can't wait for the next issue LOL.

Another Shop skin mods by Imperial Elegance

Seems like Sai Pennell doesn't take a break. Always busy, busy, busy, releasing new items. And most importantly, she never forgets her fans and group members. This week, apart from the big amount of poses, she has released five modified Another Shop skins. The skins are gorgeous. I just love the makeup colors. They are only 1L$ each, or if you are a member of the Imperial Elegance group, you can get them for free (just click the poster in the shop).

Also the hair in the photo is a freebie from GuRL 6. It is a Valentines day gift called Candyhearts, which includes all hair colors.

Mourning Glory

I'm not much into gowns, but when I saw the Mourning Minnu Gown by Kyoot Army, my jaw dropped. Literally. It is pure perfection. It is combination of the Wilted Wednesday Vest and the Exquisite Corpse Gown, made by Minnu Palen's request. It costs 350L$, comes only in black, and can be bought from the MMS shop. The skin worn with it was made specially for this gown. I must admit, in my opinion, it is the best skin so far by MMS. It costs 1200L$, pale skintone only, and can be found next to the gown.

What to do in case of an earthquake

Well not a literal one, but the one that has been shaking SL lately involving the copyright infringement. Absolutely everyone is panicking and feeling kinda edgy. Designers are feeling underappreciated and try to do everything that is in their power to protect their creations. Some feel they are the next ones on the thieves' list, whilst others are even scared that they are going to be falsely accused for copying at one point or another. One person (not a designer) even accused me of harassment. And I have never even uttered a single word to her, nor remember seeing her. Talking bout brain damage. That's how far this has gone.

The protests haven't helped much. All the stolen items are up in the thieves' stores again, just like nothing has happened. Still he is in denial and thinks that he is going to get away with it. I spent all day long in front of one of his stores, until I decided to do my favorite thing - SHOP. I went to MM Skins, got lashes, skin, a dress and picked up some demos. I mean, you can protest as much as you want to, but this is just going to show that you are concerned about the issue, that you do give a S@#& and that you want its resolution as soon as possible. The people that are affected the most by this are the designers. They are the most vital part of SL. Their creations are the building block of SL. And yet all their effort is taken for granted. So if you really support these people, if you want to show your appreciation, just go to your favorite store/mall and SHOP TILL YOU DROP!!! And then you can take a break by going and protesting and show off your brand new ORIGINAL look.

If you are a designer or just a concerned customer, I just created a group that you can join called PROTEST AGAINST CONTENT THEFT. Ashia Tomsen, Sasy Scarborough and Cat Magellan, with their negotiations, might have won this battle against the thief Centuriaro Romano (who has removed all the skins from his shops), but the war is far from over. That's why this group was created.

Show your support for this cause by wearing your group tag. Spread the word. Buy only original content. Don't sell stolen content. Create and sell your own creations.

All group members can post notices, so that if content theft is spotted, even offline members will get the info. All the group members can send invitations to the group. Discussions about this issue is allowed in group chat.

STOP THE LEECHERS!!! DON'T LET THEM FEED ON OTHER PEOPLE'S WORK!!!

CALL TO ALL SECOND LIFERS - ENOUGH WAS ENOUGH

Texture stealing has been an issue in SL for quite some time. But now it seams that it has reached its culmination. All the designers are revolted, and everyone shows their displeasure in different ways. MM Skins stopped the creation of new skins, and PopFuzz closed the store. Not only the designers, but this affects greatly the customers as well. The number of thieves and stolen textures are growing rapidly. But the question is when it is going to stop??? When Linden Labs are going to do something about this??? Huge percentage of the SL economy relies on this, so they do have a lot to loose if this continues. And will the thieves ever think for a bit and put themselves in the place of the creators??? They put a lot of effort and time in creation of these textures, and by this theft they are totally disrespected.

But the fault is not only in the thieves. We, the customers are the ones buying these stolen items. Some of us (the scum) do it intentionally, being aware of what they are doing, but there are also the ones that are unaware that the items that they have bought are stolen. They are also the ones being ripped off, together with the original creators. Regarding the first ones - DO YOU REALLY WANT SOME ASSHOLES TO GET RICH ON SOMEBODY ELSES EXPENCE AND YOUR DUMBNESS AND IGNORANCE???????? Concerning the latter ones, more violent informing of the public should be done. Till the moment of writing this, there are only a handful of bloggers that have discussed this problem in their blogs. Even I have just found out that this has become an issue of extreme proportions, even though I was previously aware of the matter.

So if you want do something about this, and help in resolving this problem, please inform as many people as possible, in whatever means possible - post in your blog if you have one, IM your friends even if they are offline, post in forums, if you have a group inform the members, etc. There are so many ways. And in order to get the attention of Linden Labs so they will start getting more involved in this, vote for this issue on https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-676. Because THIS HAS GOT TO STOP!!! I am not saying once and for all, because I am aware that this will never stop. There will always be some scum that will try to get rich of somebody else's effort, and they will always find new ways of performing the theft, if the former one is not longer effective. But if we stay ahead, get more informed, share our information with others and start taking responsibility for our own actions, we can lessen the effect and the mayhem this is causing.
