Reeve Carney+Bono and the Edge=Heaven!

I've been wanting to hear U2 again and since that performance in the American Idol Finals, I've been searching for this song on you tube and searching for the guy's name too, so it's Reeve Carney. The song I'm talking about is part of the soundtrack of the new Spiderman movie which is called Rise Above. When I finally got to see the video, I kept on playing it over and over again because knowing U2, I know the lyrics must have a lot of meaning. And as expected, I have come to love a line in this new song that I recite to myself over and over whenever I begin to feel irrational. It says "It's time for reason. Has a heart had enough, it's time to let go and rise above." The line perfectly describes my predicament. Now I can't wait for the movie, there's so much to watch out for, a different Peter Parker, a different MJ and a different costume. I hope we won't be disappointed. It's Kadayawan Festival in Davao City

Let the festivities begin as the Kadayawan Festival of Davao City was officially opened this afternoon at the People's Park in this city. Kadayawan Festival which is celebrated every third week of August is a celebration of thanksgiving for bountiful blessings. So when August kicks in, the city is ushered into a month of full of merriment and the one that most of us look forward to, a month filled with holidays. In fact, August 19 has already been declared a non-working holiday for Davaoenos in celebration of the Kadayawan. If you're in for some fun, you might want to join and go see one of the activities lined-up for this year's Kadayawan. Here's what's cooking:

Agro-Industrial Trade Fair Exhibit - this is a must-see event for those who loves flowers and plants.

A dream is a wish my heart makes

A dear friend's mom passed away early this month and as I entered the door of the funeral chapel, there was a feeling of nostalgia as I was greeted by the scent of flowers that lay beside the coffin. It was like transporting back to almost two years ago when my pillar of strength went to be with our creator. Like me, my friend lost her mom to a crippling disease. We both witnessed how painful it is to see the one who gave us life suffer so much before finally breathing their last. Those who lost a mom like us knows one will never get over that feeling of loss, no one and nothing can fill the void caused by it.

Since mom went away, I have learned to appreciate the value of dreams. A dream of mom would make me wake up happy the next day. The feeling of being with her and being able to see her face to face and feel her touch in a dream is priceless since she left. The thought of her sends an unquenchable thirst of being able to hug her so every night before I fall in deep slumber, I pray that I'd be with her in my dreams so that even for that moment, I will relive the feeling of having that comforting touch and the feeling of security I haven't felt since she left because I only felt safest with you my momma, I miss you so much.

My mom is probably the strongest person I have ever known, I am inspired by her toughness. She stood tall despite the barrage of tests that came her way from work, her family, relationships and her health. The greatest display of strength that mom probably made is asking forgiveness from the person who did her wrong, that person that I cannot forgive because even if my mom had long passed away, he continues to oppress her and deprive her of her rights. As I write this, I am reminded of how my mom set a good example for me as I continue to struggle with this issue on forgiveness but everything is a process and I have just begun to pick up the pieces and deal with it bit by bit.

I know she has never really left because in my dreams, she tells me she knows what I am going through and she constantly reassures me everything will be alright. Thank you mommy for being my angel both here on earth and from up above. I love you so much.

The Fab Choco is turning 2!

In about 5 days, my most favorite and beloved chocolate labrador in the entire universe is going to turn two year-old. I am talking about Max, the pet we gave dad when mom passed away almost two years ago. Time really flies fast because the little naughty puppy that came to our lives in October of 2009 is now a big, brawny dad of 3 healthy puppies. Despite that, Maxey is still the possessive dog we know. He gets jealous whenever his masters talk to strangers or pet other puppies. He wants all of our attention to be his and his alone.

I took this collage of pictures last Saturday, see how pro he has become in projecting himself in front of the camera. I have been officially dislodged as the reigning camwhore at home.

Max at 3 months old. This shot was taken after an early morning visit to mom's grave, we stopped by Jollibee for breakfast. While waiting for us to finish our meal, he settled underneath one of the chairs seemingly bored. Happy Birthday Good Boy! You're the sweetest dog of all.

Yey! I decided to tweak my blog's layout tonight and look at the new look, it's prettier and a lot dainty now than the previous one. The splash of bright colors give me that happy, giddy feeling which is exactly the push that I need right now as I decide to let go of the nightmares of the not so happy past. Coincidentally, my friend Shieryl also changed hers and we both kinda leaned towards the marshmallowy theme. Her new template's so sweet! while I have polka dots all over, she had hers in pretty pink stripes.

It's a quiet Saturday night and I am happy with all the accomplishments I had today. It was a productive Saturday as I was finally able to find the perennial meimei powder that I was tasked to hunt for my friend. I'm sure she'll be happy once she check on her mailbox and read the good news. My sister Amy and I have finally checked out the place we temporarily reserved for dad's 70th birthday. I'm still not so sure which theme to do but I have a few in mind. There are a lot of exciting things to look forward to in the coming months and I can't wait for the future to unfold. Dreary nights are over and happy days are here to stay. I hope the universe hears what my heart says. Good night y'all in Blogsville.

Sorry Pimples but they don't want you

I am off for some errands this afternoon and I hope that finally this time, I will be able to find this face powder that my best friend from the US is looking for to cure her pimples. I've asked a few friends about where to find this and some of them said it can be found in one of those Maranao stores in Aldevinco or it can either be found in Bankerohan or some stalls along San Pedro St.. This looks like a one great task since I haven't been to those places for years now. The face powder we are talking about here is meimei powder, one that I have never heard of.

My research told me meimei powder is actually made of borax powder, a friend said it's this powder some women use to make their faces smoother and lighter. The sound of borax somewhat bothers me so I looked it up in Wikipedia and found out that one of its common uses is really for cosmetics, detergents or teeth bleaching to name a few. Knowing what it is I'm looking for I guess makes the task half done.

Now this idea amuses me since I also have sisters and friends who have been suffering from acne at some point in their lives and they say proactiv has been the only thing that answered their problems with acne. I remember before that proactiv is not yet available here in the Philippines so my aunt would ask my lola to buy her proactiv in the US for her pimples. Now, my friend in the US says she'd want me to send her meimei powder because it's the tried and tested most effective cure for her pimples and can only be found here in Mindanao. Different strokes for different folks. Now, I'm gonna close this post and off to do the errand.

I missed blogging! It took me a year to finally realize that I miss my little piece of place here in worldwide web. So what happened to me? I just got tired of writing. I thought that I needed to spend less time using the internet and experience life in actuality. And indeed, there were a lot of things that I was able to accomplish while I was away from blogville. While being virtually present here all the time, it meant leading a sedentary lifestyle in a way because I get to face the monitor and sit for long hours doing blog hops and thinking about what good posts to write. I'd like to believe that the whole time I spent being away from here was productive. For one, I am now 10kilos lighter than my old self a year ago and that's because I was able to spend longer hours doing workout. That's probably one of the reasons too why blogging took a backseat because losing weight was in the forefront of my priorities last year and I am glad that I am able to achieve the result that I wanted. With that, there was a light bulb on my head that tells me I am capable of getting the things I want as long as I set my heart and sight to that goal. I'd like to believe too that, that moment is the start of the end of a long era of depression for me. I have been dead inside for so long now and it's refreshing to see a little seed of hope sprout and that's when I start to appreciate the beauty of life's challenges.

Challenges! they are spices that give life a taste of excitement. Now I remember that text saying when life throws you lemons....Now why not make lemonade? I'm so tired of life giving me a hard time with the challenges I've been up to the past years even until this moment. So I guess it's better for me to throw challenges to myself one after the other and savor each little triumphs so when time comes that life throws another tough one my way, it would be piece of chicken!

Must lose those love handles

It has been seven months since I went back to the gym and have gladly lost 10 kilos since then. But even if I've lost a great amount of excess body fat, the ones around the belly are the really hard ones to shed. This plus the fact that I am a voracious rice-eater so getting a six pack abs is big challenge. It was easier to lose extra poundage during the first few months that I began doing my regular work out but in the past month, I noticed that I have been stuck on a plateau where no matter how rigorous the exercises I have been doing, I am no longer losing weight. It's beginning to frustrate me even if I am so close to attaining my desired weight so to challenge myself to go on, I am setting this new goal for myself which is to try to get a six-pack abs.

Though my belly is not as humongous as it used to be a few months back, I still have an ugly amount of fats that's really visible on my stomach area and on the side, the love handles. Then I searched for videos on youtube last night and found this one great workout that I think will work and I am sharing it with you. I have tried doing this in the gym a few times and I say that it's going to be a little hard at first but persistence is a big help if you really want to get rid of those unsightly love handles.

For this week's theme, I cannot think of anything more fitting than this from among the stock of photos that I have. A scene from the NAIA terminal 3 that I caught on cam while waiting for my sister to fetch us. Airports are a great place to do people-watching because you get to see so many people from all walks of life, from different nationality, different culture and race. It's also interesting to take note of people's fashion statements because it's like reading different personalities. Bumping into someone popular is another thing.

Now looking at this picture just makes my feet itch in an instant. I can't wait for my next travel adventure! But for the meantime, here's my entry to:

August, in a nutshell

Two more days and we will be ushered to the last quarter of the year 2010. After looking at my archives, I was somehow feeling remorseful for not having posted much the past two months despite a pool of good things to share and blog about. I have traveled twice and have been to at least one place that I have never been to in my whole existence. But, time had passed by so swiftly and we can no longer bring it back so let me just recount the things that happened in August.

Flicks we saw this Month:

SALT - Of course, we are huge Angelina fanatics and action movie addicts rolled into one so when Salt was showing, we vowed never to miss it on the silver screen. It was an added bonus that this movie was shown in the Red Carpet Cinema in Gaisano Mall, one of the two cinemas(the other one is the 3D) that has lounge chairs. Watching the movie was a real heavenly experience since we're so comfortable and it's the best viewing experience ever since aside from the comfort, you don't have to contend with rude and uncultured seatmates. Correct me if I am mistaken but I heard in the news that G-Mall has the first cinemas with lounge chairs in the whole Philippines. Back to the movie, it was excellent and there was never a dull moment. I had to postpone going to the rest room until the end of the movie just so I wouldn't miss a single thing.

THE EXPENDABLES - When we were growing up, we never missed a single Stallone movie back then. We we crazy about Rambo and Rocky, I guess that's how kids are. If there is one genetic thing that all of us acquired from our parents, it would be our parents' love for movies particularly action-packed flicks that is readily noticeable. Since the trailer of this movie was shown, my dad had been counting the days until this will be shown. I wasn't that happy with this movie and I kinda expected it from the very beginning because of the all-star casting. True enough, but a little better than Confessions of a Dangerous Mind and Pulp Fiction.

Those movies highlight my weekends in August, my weekends are always about going to church, a visit to Mom's tomb and a movie. Aside from that, there were a lot of things happening like the major, major one would be the Kadayawan Festival which I sadly missed the highlights, shame on me! The heat was just so sore and I couldn't bear that otherwise, I had to compromise my health. Never mind, I was able to sneak at the Mindanao Trade Expo in Central Bank on its last day though. The past week was a roller coaster ride of emotions ranging from irritation with how the Manila Bus Hostage Crisis ended, to grief for the loss of lives, the surge of tension and excitement the day after with our Venus Raj competing in the Miss Universe 2010 and frustration right after that question and answer which many thought cost her the crown. It was a stressful week for Filipinos really. I hope the coming weeks will be about good news.

It's a snap of my favorite magazine called Entrepreneur which circulates monthly. I get good insights here with regards to setting up and running a business plus I get inspiration from real people who started out small then eventually made it big in their chosen endeavor. I really dream of owning a business one day so as early as now, I try to read and absorb every little thing about it so I can put them to use when that day comes.

This is just one among the eye-catching lamp posts in Plaza Heneral Santos in General Santos City. On our free night during our company's national sports fest, we took time to stroll around the park just across our hotel and we were glad we did because we instantly had a photo walk that night when we saw several interesting subjects around the park to be photographed.

Blogging and Grammar

This is one of the few times that I have been hopping from blog to blog to drop Entrecards and read interesting posts. There are particular blogs that I do visit regularly because I find them interesting and the posts are well-written which is undoubtedly the result of thoughts that are nicely put together. I wish there were more of these blogs here in blogosphere because honestly, there are more of those that are simply gibberish .

Offline, I admit to be too critical about people committing grammatical errors just like most of the people in my sphere. That is why we are careful about the things that we say and when we hear somebody say something that's not grammatically correct, we immediately correct that person if we feel that he or she is open to it since there are those who take that in a bad light too. And this is what I notice about some bloggers. I admire those bloggers who welcome corrections and comments and take them positively because these are the real people who are intelligent enough to take constructive criticisms which could help them improve their writing skills.

Blogging can be quite tedious for those who really care about writing good posts. One of the direct measures by which we can determine whether a post is good or not is grammar usage and spelling. I admit that I am guilty of this too because more often than not, I rush in doing my posts and I seldom find the inspiration to write a really good post. In short, I am a lazy blogger and that is why I don't blog regularly.

I am not a good writer but at least, I want to try to make good posts because I believe bloggers owe it to their readers. When somebody reads my post, I want to make them feel that it's worth their time.

But our little "twist" is that each week we will pick a famous person and pick ten of their quotes. Each of our questions will be based on the quotes. Got it? Great! Let's begin this week's meme!

Today we picked Chelsea Clinton. Here's Wednesday Wickedness!

1. “I think with our problems with hopelessness and cynicism that [the solution] ultimately has to come from the young people themselves. We've got to realize we are the future and we make of our future what we make of it, and ultimately we have to do it for ourselves.” If you had a wish for your future, what would it be? :: I wish for a more comfortable and happy life and a better and safer world to live in.

2. “We proved we could be safe and secure at home, and still have more allies and friends in the world.” Tell us about a couple of your closest friends. ::I am an exclusive type of person so my closest friends are those whom I have been friends with from way back when.

3. “I had seen people who had lost everything and everyone they loved to war, famine, and natural disasters.” What is the most that you have ever lost? ::I lost my mom to cancer and I feel that it's something that a lot of people had to fight these days so I wish that there will be a cure for this disease.

4. “We grieve for the loss of life, ... I ask you to redouble your resolve and help your neighbors.” What was the last thing that you have done to help a neighbor? ::I gave my own little share in helping build our chapel.

5. “I think they were interested in it.” What have you done to help someone because of a shared interest? :: This is something that I need to think real hard about, so I'll pass.

6. “How we use these surpluses in this moment of prosperity will determine America's future for decades to come. Nothing will more surely determine it than making the right choices…” What do you think the priorities of the United States really should be? :: I am not from the US so my concerns are more focused on my country's needs.

7. “For all the tornadoes Arkansas has, and the ones that have hit around Little Rock, we never had one just basically come down Main Street.” What was the last severe weather situation that you and your neighbors endured? ::We are very fortunate to be blessed with good topography that's why we rarely experience bad weather here in Davao. If ever we do, the most prevalent problem would be flood caused by heavy rains.

8. “I had seen people who had lost everything and everyone they loved to war, famine, and natural disasters.” Who among the folks you consider family or friends has lost the most? ::The ones I can immediately think of are those who were affected by typhoon Ondoy last year.

9. “I Do.” If you’ve been married what you’re your thoughts when you said that? Or if not, what would you hope them to be?” ::That it's going to be the best decision that I will be making in my whole life.

10. "I'm a big health-food freak and a vegetarian devotee." Have you or are you a vegetarian? Thoughts? ::I am a semi-vegetarian since my diet mainly consists of veggies but I still do eat meat.
