Jason and Rachelle’s wedding was filled with homemade details, including handwritten signs, a seating chart made from a window pane, fabric bunting and made-from-scratch jam favors. “Still to this day, it’s a slight miracle that I was able to pull it off,” Rachelle told Pretty Little Weddings. “But I really do have to give credit to my girlfriends and family, who really did make it all come together.”

The highlight of Rachelle and Jason’s coral, pink and sea-foam themed reception may have been the dessert menu, the bride told Pretty Little Weddings. The table was spread with cake pops, Rice Krispies, candy and a three-tier cake with only one real layer. “We had two faux layers,” Rachelle said. “Brides, this is a great idea. Less waste and more of the stuff people actually want to eat!”

When it came to her vows, Rachelle used a tried and true tradition amongst girlfriends—she shopped a friend’s word closest and “borrowed” her best words. “We tweaked them to make them our own,” the bride explained. Rachelle and Jason also relied on friends and family to help plan the other elements of their ceremony, including guest book hand-drawn by a friend. At the end of the day, Rachelle said, “our main goal was for our guests to enjoy the beautiful Okanagan and celebrate with us. I think mission was accomplished.”

Rachelle credits meeting Jason—the handsome man she spotted at a St. Patrick’s Day party—to “the luck of the Irish,” she told Pretty Little Weddings. “I was on a ‘man fast,’ and was by no means looking for Mr. Right. But mutual friends introduced us and tricked us into believing the other person was interested. We still chuckle about who liked who first.” Later, when Jason whisked Rachelle away on a surprise vacation and proposed on a candlelit balcony, it was “really all a whirl wind,” Rachelle said. “But I remember being overjoyed and so excited to say yes to my best friend.”
