I tend to find that how the sounds are amplified is much more important than their source - a rubbish guitar through a great amp sounds better than vice versa, and same goes for music players I reckon. I choose no music over music from those monstrosities. They also fit terribly, I feel like I am sticking small sharp opened tin cans into my ears. I realise that's going to be a personal thing, different people have different shape/size ears, but at least with the Sennheiser in ears you can choose a (soft, rubber) ear bud size that suits you.

I'm a shameless Apple fan boy, but their earphones are the one thing that are absolutely not a design classic. There's only one reason Apple sells them - they're cheap and they can get away with it.

Intrigued by your comment about sonic purists shouldn't be listening to music on a phone too... Not that I'm arguing an iPhone is as good sound quality as a pure valve hi fi stack, but you can't carry one of those around in your pocket. What are you supposed to listen to music on when on the go if you're a full on audiophile?
