From the bride:

Being from a small “Plattelandse dorpie” in the lovely Free State, we wanted a whimsical vintage, farm style feel, also incorporating a birdie theme throughout our wedding.

The venue was a rustic Free State sandstone building. Farm landscapes and surroundings, complimented the soft lace and vintage elements.

I searched high and low for service providers with a creative twist. My ideas were realized through working closely with the amazing service providers listed below.
The invites started the whole process. Staying away from the usual formal wording we opted for a quirky rhyme on a postcard, to set the tone for a fun wedding!

Each guest received a newspaper before entering the chapel filled with fun reads; our engagement story, the menu, the program for the day, seating plan and even a crossword puzzle and Thank you notes.

Strands of lace were hung from beams in the chapel to create that vintage feel while an old gramophone played background music from the 1950’s

After the ceremony the guests enjoyed a spread of various cheeses, homemade breads, jams and fruit under an old tree while we continued playing the vintage music.

Hay bales were used for seating and a photo booth with props was set up to entertain guests while we were doing our couple shoot.

Instead of the normal welcome drink, our guests were treated to a candy floss cocktail with a sparkler, This was set alight and we were greeted with a burst of sparkle upon arrive at the reception.

The hall was decorated with bunting, fairy lights and birdcages, made by street vendors, were used as table centrepieces

For placemats, I used scrapbooking paper in different designs. As guest favors, my aunt made the napkins with our monogram and together with this each guest received a small cookie, designed in the theme of the wedding.

The dessert table was a hit with everyone. Designer cookies in shapes of birdies and birdcages were hung from branches above the table.

What a perfect day, we had so much fun and the guests loved it as much as we did!

Sandi was the ultimate DIY Bride – she designed and made all the invitations, the flower arrangements, the table decorations, the catering and even the cake!

The attention to detail reflected the Brides creative touch and the couple’s personality. There were lovely little touches everywhere, a favourite being: on each table, each guest got a small bottle of Kalahari sand (you’ll see in a minute why the Kalahari sand has relevance!). After the speeches Sandi asked each guest to share a small amount of their sand in a large bottle, which will be kept in Sandi and Arthur’s home as a reminder of their special day! What a unique idea and so fitting for them as a couple!

Sandi wore a dress of her own design and what was particularly special about her dress, was around her waist she wore a leather wedding band – a gift from her Bushmen Mother! To fill you in, Arthur does a tremendous amount of conservation work in Botswana, in particular the conservation of indigenous Bushmen. Sandi often accompanies Arthur on his trips to the Bushmen camp (deep in the Kalahari) and they have both been accepted into the Bushmen tribe! Officially part of the Bushmen family! So it was only fitting to have those little touches that reflected a life-long work!

The ceremony was held in the gardens under the trees, followed by the reception at Eagles Fayre restaurant, literally a 5 min walk from ceremony.

Their special day could not have been better; it was filled with so much love and laughter, tears of joy and endless smiles! They were so happy they were literally doing handstands and jumping for joy!”
