The game of badminton is a popular back yard game for many people, men and women alike. Some people who are serious about the game play in professional matches. The International Badminton Federation is the largest professional badminton organization. It boasts an astonishing membership of one hundred and thirty countries! And, did you know that badminton became an Olympic competition in 1992? So, it's popularity is still soaring!

The first thing you will need is a playing area in your back yard which measures approximately seventeen feet wide for matches played with two people, one on each side, or twenty feet wide for matches which are played with four people, two players on each side. The length of the court is approximately forty-four feet if you have sufficient room. Place the net in the approximate middle of your playing area, then divide by two and measure out the lengths as well as the widths for each side. You will need to distinctively mark each of the three boundary lines on both sides of the playing area or court. Yard paint like what is used on a football or baseball field is excellent, or you can just use white flour when in a pinch. You will also need a badminton net, which, when set up, stands about five feet high. You will also need racquets and shuttlecocks, or birdies, as they are sometimes called. The easiest way to obtain all of this equipment at one time is to visit your local department store and find a badminton set in the Sporting Goods Department.

Now, the object of this active game is for each player to keep the shuttlecock in constant play once it has been served. The player who serves the shuttlecock continues to serve until a fault is made by his or her own team. A fault can be called if the shuttlecock lands outside of the boundary lines, does not pass over the top of the net, is not returned over the net, or is not struck with a racquet before it falls on the ground. If the server's team makes the fault, then the serve immediately switches over to the opposing team. But, the opposing team does not score a point. Only the server or his or her team can score. If the opposing player or team commits the fault, then the server's team gains a point. The first player, if you are playing single matches, or the first two-person team, if you are playing doubles, to reach twenty-one points wins the match.Another rule of the game of badminton is that the shuttlecock is always served from the right side of the playing area, or court, as it is often known as.

Professionally-played badminton entails more complicated rules, but the above-listed rules are enough for a back yard match. The equipment changes somewhat too, from a backyard match to a professional game. One such difference is that the shuttlecock in a store-bought game is usually made from molded plastic. A regulation shuttlecock is made from cork with exactly sixteen real feathers attached to it.

The game of tennis has been around for many years. Tennis is played in some schools, and there is even a version played that is called wheelchair tennis.

In order to play this active game, you must first find a regulation-size tennis court. Such a court is about seventy-eight feet long and is twenty-seven feet wide for single play, or thirty-six feet wide for double play. Most public courts are large enough for double play. On either side of the net are spaces called service courts. Each service court is, of course, half of the entire court in size. The service court on the player's right is known as the deuce court, while the service court on the left is known as the advantage court, or ad court for short.

You will also need a tennis racquet and balls in order to play this game, along with, of course, an opponent. A tennis racquet has evolved quite abit over the years, and now is made from lightweight graphite or fiberglass as opposed to the wooden racquets of days gone by. The tennis ball is usually colored yellow or white and is about two inches in diameter. Each tennis ball weighs a mere two ounces each.

The object of tennis is to keep the tennis ball in play once it is served by one of the two sides. Each player on each side, which is known as singles, or both players on each side, which is known as doubles, attempts to hit the ball and send it back over top of the net to the opposing side.
The server on one team serves the tennis ball by tossing it into the air and hitting it with their racquet. Their goal is to place the ball across the net in a diagonal direction so that it lands in the receiver's deuce court.

After the first point if the game is made, both players move to the left and continue play from the advantage court. They continue to alternate between courts after each point is made until the game has been won.

Scoring is different in tennis than any other game around. Each point is not counted as a single point. Rather, the scores are kept track of as follows: fifteen is said to be the first game point, while thirty is said to be the second game point. Forty is the next, or third game point made, and one more point is needed from there in order for either side to win the game. As you can see, a tennis game actually consists of four points.

There are some terms in the game of tennis that differ greatly from other games as well. One popular term is love. Love in the game of tennis,refers to having a score of zero. Therefore, if a score is fifteen-love, the server has fifteen, or has actually scored one point in the game, while his or her opponent has not scored as of yet, and therefore had a score of zero.
When a player or a team wins six games, it is said that a set is won. However, the winner(s) must have won at least two more games than the opponent has won.

Dukes of Hazzard Hold 'Em. We don't normally put movie tie-ins in the chart, but this is isn't too bad a version of head-to-head poker where a) you can't lose any real money, and b) you get to beat a computerised Jessica Simpson. It sticks to fairly standard Poker rules - try to make the best possible hand of 5 cards, and bet (or bluff) to try and get Daisy's money - though proper card-sharks will spot that there are limited options as to what you can bet, and not much in terms of "all in" possibilities.

On top of that, it's not like there's any chance of "reading" Jessica/ Daisy's glazed, lifeless expression (she does, however, change her outfit if you take all her money). It also seems to make some odd judgements when you and Daisy have similar hands, and there's a bug where the game freezes if you fold on the first hand of a new pack of cards, but it's still a reasonable introduction to the game - we suspect real-life opponents may be more cunning, if not quite so easy on the eye.

Controls: Mouse click on menu options to fold current hand, check (ask the other player what they want to do without betting upfront), bet, or raise.
Tips: Of course you're not playing with real money so, if you're on a fast net connection, you can always just "Reload" the game if your total goes below your original $250.
