Currently there are a couple of applications available on the iOS platform that many Android users have high on their wish lists. Recently we had the news that Temple Run will finally be landing on the Android platform later this month, and now we have news that it won’t be long before Instagram for Android is released as beta testing is underway.

The founder of Instagram, Kevin Systrom, was talking yesterday at the South by Southwest conference, and mentioned the iOS version has seen its users almost double since December last year. As it is being reported by the Huffington Post the application now has 27 million users that are registered to the service, which compares to Foursquare that has just shy of 20 million users, but has been going since March 2009. The iOS version of the app has recently been updated for users of the platform.

Currently the Instagram application is only available for iOS users, but Systrom said an Android version had been developed and private beta testing had already begun ahead of a release “very soon”. Kevin Systrom also went on to mention the Android application will be better than the iOS version in some ways, and the team had been looking to make it one of the best Android applications available.

One way the Instagram application is said to better is the speed of it, with Systrom stating it was “really fast”. The day the app first launched around 25 thousand people signed up for it according to Systrom, with Apple choosing Instagram as its app of the year in 2011.

The application has certainly proved successful since it hit the App Store back in the fall of 2010, and hopefully Android users will soon be able to find out what all the fuss is about once it is released for their platform.

Are you looking forward to get Instagram on your Android device?

Last week along with the announcement of the new iPad, Apple revealed the availability of the latest operating system, iOS 5.1. Despite the recent update it seems some iPhone users have been hit with the dreaded Daylight Savings bug again in 2012.

A few hours ago in the US the clocks moved forward at 1:59 am to 3:00 am, and it seems that again some users have had issues with their iPhones. This problem rears its head every time there is a change with the clocks, and it also affects users in Europe as well, with residents in the UK due to move to British Summer Time later this month.

Now a number of readers have contacted Tuaw and reported that their iPhones went back an hour instead of leaping forward, which means the automatic adjustment of the time zone, went wrong again. One iPhone owner in Arizona that is an area that doesn’t really observe DST saw his device gain an hour.

To get around the problem many owners set a back up alarm just in case, and restarting the device can normally rectify the problem, or by turning the automatic time zone setting on and off. There is also the chance that many users that experienced the problem may still be running older versions of the iOS software.

This is an issue that has been affecting the handset for years now, and while many users have no trouble at all, it can be frustrating for the iPhone users that do have problems with the clocks changing each year. Did your iPhone re-adjust the time correctly?

We are only just into the third month of this year and we have already seen a few auto recalls being announced. In January we saw BMW recalling a number of its Mini models that was followed later the same month with a worrying Britax child seat problem. Today we have news of a huge 2012 Toyota recall that has been revealed by the company.

The company is making a total of two recalls that is affecting almost 700,000 vehicles, and according to The New York Times the recall is down to a steering wheel flutter and a trace of silicone grease. This latest recall by the company is affecting 187,000 Venzas manufactured between 2009 and 2011 and Camrys manufactured in 2009.

There are also 495,000 Tacoma pickups that were made between 2005 and 2009. The issue affecting the Camrys and Venzas is down to a trace of silicone grease that may affect the stop lamp switch, which may lead to a number of problems that include the failure of the brake light. It can also stop the vehicle from starting, and prevent the automatic transmission out of the park position.

It was found that the grease was building up on the gloves of the workers building the vehicles who later touched the stop lamp switch. The Tacomas are being recalled because the driver’s air bag may not work in the event of an accident. The company started looking into the problem after receiving a number of complaints from owners who had to pay out for repairs to the warning lights were activated, but the vehicles were not covered by the warranty.

Owners complained to the NHTSA as it was costing up to $800 to fix the problem, and the company eventually found that a steering wheel flutter was causing friction on a cable, which in turn affected circuits used for the air-bag assembly. This would then mean the warning lights would illuminate, and if left untouched could also mean the air bag not triggering in an accident.

The company has said they will refund owners that have already paid out for a repair, and can claim the money back if they have proof of the work being done, and also promised to contact owners about a fix for the issues.

Do you own one of the vehicles involved in the recall?

Video game retailer the GAME Group which owns the Gamestation and Game stores across the UK and other regions, has been in the news quite a bit recently as it struggles to survive the consumer downturn in spending. Today we have the unfortunate news that GAME may be getting closer to going into administration as a fire sale begins.

The last few months the retailer has been trying to restructure itself and save money as it faces increasing debts. Recently some leading publishers have refused to supply their new titles to the chain amid concerns of it going under, and now seems its woes have deepened as according to MCV, senior management teams from the chain have been warned to get ready for administration.

CEO Ian Shepherd met with senior staff at the beginning of this week and warned the company had around two weeks to save itself from going bust. There has been rumors that rival US chain GameStop may be interested in taking up a number of the GAME stores, and only recently it was reported that the company’s directors were seeking advice whether it was better pulling the plug or running up more debts.

There have been reports from consumers that the company has started what seems like a fire sale at its UK GAME stores. This will be seen as an effort to get some much needed cash into the company as it tries to stay afloat, and in the meantime it will be hoping some sort of deal can be struck with GameStop to at least keep some of the stores open.

When contacted about the news a GAME spokesperson said the company doesn’t comment on such rumors. Whether you like the retailer or not because of their sometimes high prices, you have to think about the thousands of staff that will be worrying about their jobs.

Have you noticed any bargains at your local GAME store?

On Wednesday Apple launched its latest version of the iPad to the world with its biggest new feature being the Retina Display. Now we have news that new iPad stock may be running low as shipments of the device slip.

It now seems consumers in the UK are getting a rough deal with regards to Apple’s latest iPad, as it seems they will have to wait until the end of the month now if they are going to pre-order the device. Shipments of device when checking on Apple’s online store are now showing shipments of between two and three weeks, while the US store is still stating the 16th.

Sales of the device in the country went live a few hours after other locations and originally promised delivery on the 16th of this month. Obviously we don’t know how many units Apple had available for the initial launch of the device for each country, and if some regions were receiving more stock than others.

Meanwhile it is being reported by some customers in the US that they are already receiving shipping notifications from the company that their new iPad was already on the way. One of AppleInsider’s readers contacted the site with a screenshot of the alleged shipment notification.

The iPad in question was a 16GB Wi-Fi only black model that is being delivered via Federal Express, and readers of Engadget are also reporting similar notifications along with tracking numbers for UPS, which indicate the units are being shipped from China.

Apple’s new iPad is launching first in Australia, Canada, US, UK, Japan, Hong Kong, US Virgin Islands, Singapore, Switzerland, and Puerto Rico on the 16th of March. It has been rumored before that the Retina Display is hard to manufacturer and may lead to early delays for the device until suppliers can get enough made.

In the last few months we have seen a number of rumors and speculation regarding Microsoft’s plans for the next version of the Xbox games console. There have been a number of different specs believed to be coming that have included PVRs and used games not being supported. Today we have new rumors that hint there will be no Xbox 720 backwards compatibility.

Earlier this month we reported to you that the Sony PS4 may not have backwards compatibility as it is rumored not to feature a cell processor. Now this could also be the case for the Xbox 720 as MCV have been told by sources that the device will not feature an optical drive. It is being claimed that Microsoft has already been letting its partners know the next device will come lacking a disc drive.

The information has been given to companies under what the source is claiming as “the strictest NDA” that has ever been seen. Instead the device is claimed to be using some sort of solid state flash card such as a SD card or something similar. It may use something like what the PS Vita uses with its propriety memory card format, which also has games available to purchase from the PlayStation Store as well.

Some still claim that Microsoft will be showcasing the next Xbox at this year’s E3 event in June, and the same sources are claiming we will actually see a release of the Xbox 720 in 2013. While the lack of an optical drive means owners won’t be able to play their Xbox 360 games, it could mean a new era in the games industry similar to what’s already on offer with the OnLive service.

When asked about the speculation Microsoft at first said they don’t comment on such rumors, but later added that the life span of the current console has been extended with the addition of the Kinect and a new dashboard. It went on to say that the company is always looking at ways to increase this further along with “thinking about what is next for our platform”.

Will you be disappointed if there is no backwards compatibility with the next Xbox?

Recently we have heard about the next version of the Android operating system and the fact it may be launching sometime in the fall. While we wait for official confirmation of this many Android users continue to wait for Ice Cream Sandwich to arrive on their handsets, which in many cases are not very long in the tooth. Today we have some good news for owners of handsets from the HTC Sensation range, as some owners are reporting that the Android ICS update has begun reaching devices.

Since Google launched the new operating system with the Samsung Galaxy Nexus late last year we have only seen a handful of devices receiving the upgrade. Now though it is being reported by the Android Police that owners of the HTC Sensation should start checking their device for updates as the over the air rollout of the software has begun.

Currently it is not known if the upgrade is being pushed out officially or if someone has pressed the start button by mistake, as HTC has so far been unusually quiet about the availability of the update. As usual you can keep informed about the new software via the XDA forums, where many users have reported getting the new operating system.

Meanwhile it is being reported by GSM Arena that owners of the HTC Sensation XE in Germany and the Nordic countries are also receiving the new Android operating system. This should mean the rest of Europe will also get the update shortly with the rest of the world following after. The size of the download is reported to be almost 300MB in size, so it is advised you do it via a Wi-Fi connection.

Have you received the ICS update yet on your HTC Sensation?

Yesterday Apple finally unveiled the latest version of the iPad to the world, and although the device looks pretty impressive, most of the new features had already been speculated about leading up to the event. As usual with Apple product launches there was no live stream of the event and fans of the company had to make do with various live blogs around the world reporting the news as it broke. Today we can tell you that the video of the new iPad 2012 keynote speech is now live in its entirety, and the reasons behind the devices name.

Apple has put up yesterday’s event on its website for fans to watch back if they desire, and it has a running time of around 85 minutes. You will see all the demos for the new iPad along with the revealing of the latest version of the Apple TV. We also had the news of the immediate availability of the latest operating system iOS 5.1, which also brought with it Siri in Japanese and will hopefully fix the battery life issues with the iPhone 4S.

In the months leading up to the event all the rumors suggested the device will go under the name iPad 3, and just before rumors of iPad HD emerged. At yesterday’s event both Tim Cook and Phil Schiller introduced the new device, but as you will see in the video didn’t mention any specific name for it.

Throughout the unveiling the device is referred to as the “new iPad”, and as Redmond Pie are reporting the reason behind this according to Sciller is that Apple didn’t “want to be predictable”, when asked about the naming of the device.

This has led some to suggest Apple and Tim Cook has made a mistake and could confuse some consumers, but in reality whatever name it went under probably wouldn’t hurt sales of the device. If you want to watch Apple’s event click here.

The dust has now settled after Apple’s event in San Francisco that announced the New iPad to the world, but before all that the company revealed the 2012 Apple TV that brings 1080p content to the device for the first time.

One of the major changes to the new model is the completely redesigned interface that uses iOS type buttons that can be found on the home screen underneath the thumbnail images, which as Macworld are reporting highlight options such as movies and TV shows.

Users will also find easier access to third party offerings such as Netflix, Vimeo, and other services, and the good news is that current Apple TV owners will be able to get the new interface as a free software upgrade, and Netflix will also be providing 1080p video content for the device.

Another welcome feature will be the support for 1080p content as the device only had support for 720p HD video via the iTunes Store. Apple’s little hobby will now be able to playback 1080p video content sold by the company, and users will be able to re-download movies that are purchased to any of their devices as previously it was restricted to TV shows.

Apple’s Genius functionality is also going to be integrated to the Apple TV to recommend movies linked to your viewing habits. The device looks exactly the same as the older version but now uses the A5 processor compared to the A4 used previously.

The new unit will be available the same day as the iPad 3 is released on March 16th and will be priced at $99 for US customers, while consumers in the UK will have to pay £120.

Recently there has been talk of the next Android operating system, which is thought will go under the name of Jelly Bean and is tipped to be coming in the fall of 2012. Meanwhile millions of Android owners are patiently waiting to find out if and when their device will get the latest software upgrade. Today we can tell you that Verizon Wireless opens a list containing devices confirmed to be getting the Android ICS update.

Verizon were the first in the US to offer the operating system with the Galaxy Nexus, and have now listed fourteen different devices set to receive the new software. As an article on the Verge is reporting the list includes the likes of the Motorola RAZR and RAZR MAXX, Droid Bionic, Droid 4, Xyboard 8.1 and 10.1.

Also in the mix are the HTC Incredible 2, HTC Rhyme, HTC Rezound, HTC Thunderbolt, LG Spectrum and Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 7.7 and 10.1. Unfortunately the company failed to give a timescale of when the updated software will be arriving to the devices, and the companies that actually make the hardware have also been slow in coming forward with any timescales regarding the software.

Motorola has recently released a list of devices getting the new operating system, but again no dates were given. HTC has also been listing devices that will eventually be upgraded but again no exact dates have been given. It is thought that both the Samsung Galaxy Tabs will be updated sometime during the second quarter of this year.

Meanwhile Verizon has put up a tease on its website that says ‘Something is coming’ and allows interested customers to enter their email address to be kept informed. As iMore is reporting, coming a day before the big reveal of the next iPad many will wonder if it has something to do with LTE connectivity, which is a rumor that continues to circulate.

Do you own one of the handsets listed by Verizon?
