Two Pocket Mini Card & Treat Holder

Sorry I've been MIA lately, my youngest was finishing up her senior year of high school, and we are still working on graduation celebration activities! I just made the cutest little treat holder...of course, I think they're all cute...but this one (like all my favorites) involves chocolate!

It's super simple to make, and the dimensions are perfect for using full sheets of paper. My samples use the Sweet Shop Designer Series Paper (DSP) from the Occasions Mini Catalog, and some coordinating stickers, which are no longer available. [But I bet they'll show up on the Clearance Rack so keep your eyes peeled!] You can use any DSP and coordinating card stock you want--I chose mine because I wanted to use it up.

You're going to need some 12x12 paper, and our Designer Series Paper is perfect, with coordinating double-sided patterns. Each sheet will yield 4 of these holders. In our Designer Series Paper packages, you usually get 2 sheets of each pattern, so that is 8 holders of the same pattern. For the card inside each, you use 1/8 of a sheet of 8-1/2"x11" card stock, so you can cleanly use a whole sheet of a coordinating color for your 8 holders of the same pattern!

Cut each 12x12 sheet down to four 6"x6" sheets. Using the Diagonal Plate on the Simply Scored Tool, score each 6x6 sheet in half diagonally from tip to tip. This means you start at zero on the ruler and score diagonally all the way across the sheet.

Then, you will score at 3/4" on each side of that middle score line. If you look at my photos below, you'll see that I use the ruler across the top, as well as the ruler down the left side, without lifting my paper. This is NOT how the Simply Scored Tool was intended to be used, because the left side ruler does not have the handy channels going down it for your scoring tool to slide into. Unless and until you are comfortable doing this, you will want to turn your paper turn your paper 180 degrees to get that 3/4" mark on the other side of the center line.

Okay, then you will want to turn your paper 1/4 turn from where you originally had it when you scored the first diagonal. On my paper, the cupcakes were upright when I started. In the picture below, you can see the top of the cupcakes are pointing to the right...because I have turned the paper one quarter turn.

Now, score each of the ends at 2-1/4", as shown below. Your 2-1/4" score marks will cross over the lines you already scored. Again, I leave my paper on the board and use both the top ruler and the left side ruler when I score diagonally. Please use only the top ruler with the channels coming down for your stylus, unless and until you are comfortable enough to use the left ruler. Note that using only the top ruler means you will have to turn your paper 180 degrees for the score on the opposite end.

From here is it cake (or cupcakes, as the case may be). Fold each of the 2-1/4" sides in on the score lines, toward the center, as shown below.

Fold this resulting piece in half on the center score line by bringing the criss-crossed "pockets" in towards each other, as shown below.

Then, fold each of the "pockets" back on its respective 3/4" score line, as shown below, so that the pointy tips of your holder meet. Crease firmly, and hold tips together while you punch a 1/2" Circle Punch near the top of the tips. Finish it by looping a 6" strip of coordinating Ribbon through the holes and pulling tight to hold tips together.

A Ghirardelli Chocolate Square™ fits in one pocket, and then I put a little card in the other pocket on the other side. To make the card, simply cut a sheet of 8-1/2x11 card stock into 8 pieces (2-3/4x4-1/4). Score each card at 2-1/8". I used the smallest of the Labels Collection Framelits Dies for the front layer of each card. Some of them were turned one direction on the card front (as with the sample at the top of this post), others were turned the other way, just depending on the image I wanted on each.

This is important: each of these die cuts is adhered to the center of each card front with only ONE Stampin' Dimensional, right smack in the center back. To get your card to fit snug down in the pocket, make sure the points on your dimensional are pointing down into the 'V' of the criss-cross in the holder pocket. This allows you to tuck the card in the pocket, with the criss-cross of the pocket sliding up under the label. So when you pull the card out, the label is actually on the card front, not on the holder--fun, huh? See the pictures below for orientation of dimensionals in accordance with orientation of die cut. The dimensional placement on the left is for a tall-skinny orientation like the 3 samples pictured above. The dimensional placement on the right is for a short-wide orientation like the sample at the top of this post.

That's it, now get to it! These make great party favors (I'm using mine for my daughter's graduation party), but they are also wonderful little thank you cards with a treat in them! If your kids aren't out of school yet, they could easily help you make a handful of these for teachers and administrative staff. If they are having an end of year party with their classmates, they could put their photo on front of the card (cut out with the framelit), and print their name & phone number/email address out on a sheet of return address labels, and put a label inside each card so their friends can keep in touch over the summer.

2012-2013 Stampin' Up! Ink Pad Labels

On June 1st, the NEW 2012-2013 Stampin' Up! Annual Catalog goes live, and we'll have 5 new additions to our In Color collection. I made some labels for my ink pads a long time ago...you can see how I use them in the picture below. Here is the updated file of color labels for the 2012-2013 Stampin' Up! Annual Catalog:

Even though the new Firm Foam ink pads that we'll have, include a nifty little color name sticker, the print is not black, nor is it bold enough for me. So, I use the included sticker across the top of the front, PLUS I add my black and bold stickers under that...in the same place as pictured above.

I print out the labels, then cover them (a sticker maker provides a great thin laminate covering), and then punch each color name out with the Word Window Punch. Then peel and stick the label onto the end of the ink pad...and because of the laminate, you can just wipe the label clean if you smear ink on it!

The color names are big and bold so you can easily see them across the table. There are also some color collection names at the end of the sheet of labels, if you'd like to use them. You may find it handy to print out a second sheet of the color names and use those for the file tabs, containers, or shelves of your card stock.

While I cannot sell you the ink pad rack I have, Stampin' Up! does offer one that rotates 360 degrees like mine, with four columns, each with 12 spaces for ink pads (to hold 48 total), called the Color Caddy. Unlike my behemoth, the Color Caddy only requires a 10" footprint to spin freely, and is about 16-1/2" tall.

Green & Growing...Summer Smooches

I haven't been feeling well the last couple months, and I was so excited to get the Summer Smooches Designer Series Paper...then just wasn't up to playing with it. By the way, tonight (April 30, 2012 at 11:50pm Mountain Time) is the deadline to order not only the Summer Smooches Sneak Peek products, but also products from the Occasions Mini catalog. Anyway, my one goal today was to get this card posted for you, and for me--as an entry in the SoShellicom Creative Challenge, themed Green & Growing. As soon as I read the theme, this card was Green & Growing in my mind :-) I started it early in the month but just finished it today. {Click photo for full-size image!}

All the printed paper is from the Summer Smooches Designer Series Paper pack, and the Daffodil Delight Seam Binding Ribbon is from the Summer Smooches promotion also. I love how the green colored paper has lines on it--I just snipped right down those lines, then cut the tops at angles, and scrunched, to make the "grass" on the card! See those little tiny flowers at the top left and bottom right of the greeting? They are punched out of another piece of Summer Smooches DSP, using the little 4-petal flower from the Itty Bitty Punch Pack. The flower punch fits perfectly over each of the little circles on that patterned piece of paper, for the perfect accent.

The greeting itself is actually a stamp available only to demonstrators to purchase. I got it at Convention last summer. Don't you wish you were a demonstrator, too? You will see many ink pads and lot of card stock on the retiring list...let me explain a little about what's going on. Some of it is being "repackaged" or "redesigned".

First, 12x12 TEXTURED CARD STOCK WILL NO LONGER BE OFFERED. If you want 12x12 Textured Card Stock in Stampin' Up! colors, please ORDER NOW while the colors you want are still available. The 12x12 Smooth Card Stock will still be offered, but only in select individual colors and collections (which I will not be able to list for you until May 8th at the earliest).

Also, SIMPLY ADORNED and DEFINITELY DECORATIVE PRODUCTS WILL NO LONGER BE OFFERED. If you want any of these products, I once again urge you to ORDER IMMEDIATELY for the best selection.

In addition, you will notice that ALL our ink pads are on the Retiring List. Here is some clarification on that: CRAFT INK PADS, CRAFT INK SPOTS, AND CRAFT INK REFILLS WILL NO LONGER BE OFFERED...with the exception of BLACK and WHITE Craft Ink Pads and Refills.

Teabag & Cookies Pouch

I figured I'd better get this posted before the kitty completely wrecked it by knocking it repeatedly off my display table, batting it around the floor, and chewing it to death!

{New Social Media Definition: proCATStination...waiting to take pictures and post them to your blog, until AFTER you've rescued your subject matter from imminent destruction at the paws and/or jaws of feline(s).}

Anyway, I learned about this adorable pouch thru a fellow demonstrator, who was demoing it at Stampin' Up!'s San Antonio Regional. Unfortunately, I was demoing something else at the same time, so it took me a while to catch up with the instructions for making it. There's a place for a card in the front, a teabag in the back, and some cookies in the center! [Click any image to see it full-size.]

Pouch Instructions:

Start with 8-1/2"x12" paper or card stock. Our 12x12 Designer Series Papers are ideal, not only for size, but also because of the contrast the double-sided patterns provide.
Score parallel to the 8-1/2" side at 1-1/4", 2-1/2", 5", 7", 9-1/2", and 10-3/4".
Score parallel to the 12" side at 2-1/2" and at 6".
Cut the 2-1/2" squares from each corner.
Fold the four center corners in half diagonally, each tip pointing towards the center.
Fold in the short sides.
Fold in the long sides.
Fold back each top edge.
Punch holes thru top for string or bow. If you want to put treats in a bag in the center, punch your holes close together, so they can gather the top of your bag when you pull them tight.
Place cookies or treats in 3x5 Small Cello Bag, then tuck bag in the center of your pouch, and then tie your knot or bow. (TIP: tying a bow allows the recipient to open without ripping.)

Okay, I'm gonna show you a quick video walk-through for a visual. I know you're a busy crafter, so I'll keep it short and to the point. I'm a busy crafter, too, so please excuse the rough cut of the video. Really, you should only need to see it once, and after that, you'll easily be able to refer to the text instructions above.

Hangin' In There!

I've been MIA doing some de-cluttering and reorganizing around the house...quite a bit in the stamp room/office. I'll share pictures soon, but only if you promise not to make fun of the "before" shots! Anyway, just wanted to share a couple stamped goodies with you in the meantime:

The box was made at a club meeting that another demonstrator graciously allowed me to attend. It was inspired by the little journal in the Sale-a-Bration brochure, on page 6. The card is one I made, which was inspired by the 3x3 card, also in the Sale-a-Bration brochure, on page 3. (Click HERE to download the brochure for free!) Birthday Glittery Cupcake

One of my New Year's Resolutions was to post to my blog more regularly. Another of them was to get a little more organized. So, I'm trying to make a dent in each today by posting a quick card, before finally forcing myself to take the holiday decorations down & get them stored back in the garage (brrr, it's cold out there today!).

I actually was not going to make the rectangle frame around the greeting a different color to begin with, but I had to cover up a goof...so there it is! What I had originally done was stamp the greeting down without using the Stamp-a-majig. Yes, I am THAT lazy. And I had already cut out the entire Pool Party cupcake image, and didn't want to do that again (remember lazy?), so I quickly inked up just the rectangle area of the image in Soft Suede, and stamped it. (I used Soft Suede to make it look like I had intentionally designed that cover-up piece to be different--but you know the truth now!) Then I USED the Stamp-a-majig and stamped the greeting exactly where I wanted. Moral of the Story: using the Stamp-a-majig in the first place would have kept me lazier, although I kind of like the darker frame around the greeting :-)

I have to put in a quick word here for My Digital Studio...when it first came out, I was not interested at all, because I LOVE putting my hands on real product. But since My Digital Studio uses the Stampin' Up! exclusive images and coordinating colors, I still feel like I am creating something of my own. With the drop shadows and photo mats, there is texture and depth, and it's just a lot of FUN! In most cases, with a few changes in print settings, you can even print your projects at home. This is SOOO convenient when you'd like to have a pre-printed background, but don't own the actual physical patterned paper you'd like to use. And the pre-designed albums are fantastic when you want to drop some pictures in, and complete a project in a hurry. The cool thing is that you can modify the templates, so you can do things like remove flower embellishments, and just put in stars, to change a feminine layout to an all-purpose layout, or remove entire pages if you don't want to use them.

Anyway, I could talk about it all day, but it's so much better if you experience it for yourself. By the way, you can print out any and every project you make during the trial period, using Stampin' Up!'s professional print services, if you'd like. I will share one big hint--take the time to save each page/project as a full-size .jpg file when you finish it...that way, even if you decide not to keep using My Digital Studio Express after the free trial period is over, you will still have copies of your work that you can access to print on your own. Just email me if you need to learn how to save those .jpg copies.

Sorry to be late again...some unbelievably painful dental issues have cropped up that I need to get under control. Not fun. Anyway, Sandra won the treats seen below for the final day of Twelve Days of Blog Candy 2011 giveaway!

This blog candy giveaway has been fun, and I'm ready to move on to sharing some samples from the NEW 2012 Occasions Mini Catalog, and especially making some VALENTINES with the new product!!! Stay tuned and I'll show you what I come up with.

By the way, I finally got a camcorder (first one I've ever owned), so I can shoot some videos--how fun is that? I am in the planning stages of setting up a kitty-free zone for taping, which entails moving some furniture around the house, getting rid of other furniture (we're all getting new beds), and probably cleaning the garage so there will be space to keep the stuff that can't be dealt with until we hire a truck to haul it away! I'm also going to be busy with the Stampin' Up! Leadership Conference, and a Stampin' Up! Regional Seminar next week, so it may be a while before I can film anything. I haven't been very timely with these posts lately, have I? Actually, it's not due to laziness, I've been busy the last few days preparing for a party my daughter had here with some of her friends last night, and my internet went wonky yesterday, too. I guess everyone was home streaming movies on Netflix or shopping on Amazon! So, I'm going to do something different for Days 8 & 9 of my Twelve Days of Blog Candy 2011. I'm going to give away a free printable sheet of gift tags for EVERYONE!

I used some pre-made designer template images from the Home for the Holidays Ensemble digital download for My Digital Studio® and pasted the "To-From" tags to fill up one whole page, then turned that into a PDF for you. These are ready to print out, and you can hand trim them out as circles, or you can use any of several punches. The punches used on the tags below are (clockwise from top): 1-3/4" Circle, Ornament, Full Heart, Decorative Label, 1-3/4" Scallop Circle. I printed these out on Whisper White card stock, making sure to print the PDF at full size. To do that, ensure the print dialog is set as Page Scaling: None.

This giveaway features the A Cardinal Christmas stamp set. I don't think the set has been used at all. I'm also throwing in some Christmas Cocoa Designer Series Paper. The wood on the stamp set is not covered with any protectant, but you could cover it with clear nail polish if you wanted. This is another stamp set I inherited from my mom, so it is not as closely trimmed as mine. But since the etching in the rubber of the images is deep, that should not be a problem. Polar Bear Treat Box

Okay, I absolutely had to have the Polar Party stamp set...it has the cute polar bear you see below, and also some holiday items like trees, gifts, and there are also two little penguins in the set! I really bought it solely because the penguins were so cute, and I thought that might be all I'd use from the set. But as I was making this project, I noticed that the polar bear fit perfectly within the frame, so he's my favorite in the set for now. The dangling Mini Jingle Bells really complete this project! I'm having a hard time with my lighting lately, so you'll have to trust me when I say this project looks super cute in real life!

This is a variation on a box I made previously--you can find the relevant dimensions on THIS BLOG POST. I chose to make these for my daughter to take to school for her teachers and friends, because the box is not attached to the little wraparound strip. See, we've made adorable treat containers before, and her friends just ripped them apart in their haste to get the candies. This way, they just slide the box out and open it...and our loving handiwork remains intact, so others can covet the packaging :-) I put some Merci chocolates inside, they were on sale at our corner Walgreens (usually $8 box, on sale 2 for $7). Eight of the individual chocolates fit in each treat box without any trouble or special care as to arrangement, and they are YUMMY.

I also just wanted to say that it's not too late to do some holiday crafting. I whipped out 10 of these simple and easy boxes from 4:00 to 6:00 this morning. (It's my daughter's last day of school til after Winter Break, so I had to get them done before I took her to the bus stop!) The designing is the hardest part, and I've already done that for you :-) The great thing about this Polar Party stamp set is that you can use the penguins and polar bear all winter long. Let's say you are too booked up with holiday chores and events right now and don't get your treats made until after Christmas. No problem, it's still winter for a few more months, and you can't tell me there's anyone who would not LOVE to get this little treat box as a "thinking of you" gift in January!!!
