The Karma app has hit the headlines recently thanks to Facebook’s acquisition, although how good is this application really and does it bring a better solution to send gifts to friends and family?

Just 8 days into this month the Karma app jumped to version 1.80, and with it brought bug fixes that has made the experience better, which has been pointed out by a few comments on the official iTunes page with statements like “working again“. We had a little play with Karma on our iPhone and found it pretty easy to use, and it was great to not have to know the address of the person you want to send a gift to (never been that good with keeping track of addresses).

We’d have to agree with the new iPhone Rumors blog, when they state the app has a “very niche catalog“, which is thanks to what seems to be a selective partnership by those behind Karma. It will be interesting to see how the gifting app changes now it has been acquired by Facebook, and we hope they expand the gift catalog dramatically to provide a better service.

What do you think about the Karma gift-giving app for iPhone? Do you think the best gift is your time rather than spending it on Facebook, or is this a good solution for your busy lifestyle? We’ve embedded a video below that features the Karma co-founder talking about the app, and why it was created in the first place. The key success for this app comes from everyone sharing everything on Facebook, and with that connection you’re able to reach out and send a gift with Karma via email, SMS, and Facebook.

If you are a frequent Skyrim player with an Apple iPhone, there’s a good chance that you are also using the very handy Dragon Shout app, a free app which became available to download back in November last year.

The app essentially follows you on your vast journey, providing a notebook for you to record any notable activities that you come across on your travels. The most useful aspect of the app is the ability to jot down entries on a particular item or event that you have seen in a particular location – making a written observation in the app so that you can remember it and return to the location if needed.

Sounds great for a free app, right? That’s what we thought, but apparently ZeniMax Media, owner of Bethesda and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim are not too happy with the app being available and have decided to send a copyright infringement letter to the app’s developer, Rick Blalock.

However, when speaking to TouchArcade, Blalock has revealed that he is yet to receive a C&D order from Zenimax and Apple has yet to remove the app from the app store since ZeniMax has not revealed what the app is in violation of. You may remember that ZeniMax were in the headlines recently for their efforts to stop Mojang using the phrase ‘Scrolls’. Do we sense an element of over-protection here perhaps?

If anything, the Dragon Shout app embraces everything that is good about Skyrim and according to the developer, the map featured in Dragon Shout is hand-drawn by himself and doesn’t infringe on anything in Skyrim. To make matters even more interesting, we noticed that Pete Hines, one of the big guns at Bethesda has even commented on TouchArcade’s story by saying that this situation is ‘Much ado about nothing. The app is up and will remain up.’

Does that comment from Pete Hines suggest that Bethesda doesn’t mind about the app being up, but ZeniMax does? That may be some tension right there folks. Perhaps ZeniMax needs to calm down a little before fans start to turn against them. ZeniMax obviously doesn’t want to remain in the bad books of the gaming community with The Elder Scrolls Online on the way, so a statement to clear this situation up would be the most effective way of putting this to bed we feel.

In this crazy world of ongoing patent and copyright disputes, do you find it ridiculous that the developer is being targeted for providing a FREE app to Skyrim lovers? Give us your thoughts on this.

This Summer is shaping up to be one of the most exciting prospects as far as sporting events are concerned. Euro 2012 will be taking place in Poland and Ukraine of course, but for everyone else there’s the little matter of the London 2012 Olympics.

After taking an eternity to come around it seems, we’ll finally be able to enjoy the Olympics in July and thanks to a new deal struck by the BBC and Sony, you’ll be able to watch hours of footage from all the different events from the comfort of your PS3 console.

As detailed on the official PS Blog, the deal doesn’t just cover the Olympics either. It turns out that you’ll be able to watch Forumla One as well as Wimbledon on your PS3 as well. The footage will be available in the form of the BBC Sports App and it’s going to be a free download this Summer.

There’s no mention of Euro 2012 in the statement though, so we’re guessing you won’t be able to watch live football matches direct from the app sadly. There also doesn’t appear to be any confirmation that the BBC will be providing live footage either. 2500 hours of London Olympics footage is some of the official wording, so it may just end up being a highlights package, which is still pretty decent for free.

We imagine this is exclusive to UK PS3 users for licensing reasons, but you can bet that US PS3 users and other consumers migrating would love to be able to view this as well. Hopefully the BBC will release more details on the Sports App soon, but it looks very promising. Let us know your thoughts on this, and if you would be willing to watch the Olympics and Wimbledon direct from your PS3.

If you like to play the latest mobile apps that are currently ‘trending’ with other users around the world, it is a good chance that you already have the likes of Draw Something and the Logos Quiz installed on your device.

While Draw Something is great addictive fun thanks to its never-ending possibilities, as well as support for playing with friends, the same cannot be said for the Logos Quiz unfortunately which provides a decent amount of fun, but threatens to fizzle out quickly once you have completed the levels.

If you haven’t tried Logos Quiz yet, you really should since it is great fun and it’s also a free download. Basically you have to guess the logos in the shortest time possible, with 8 levels of logos and progressing degrees of difficulty depending on which level you have managed to get to.

The disappointing aspect of the Logos Quiz app though, is that all the logos are predetermined and there isn’t any sort of live updates in place to make sure you receive fresh logos everytime you play the game. This naturally has led to users just searching for the answers online, essentially giving the app a short life-span.

That doesn’t mean to say that it’s the end of the line though, as some support by way of frequent updates could remedy the situation and put the app on par with the likes of Draw Something. We would like to see support for two players added as a priority, and there could be a new interface put in place where the two players would have to guess randomly generated apps in a short space of time. Hopefully the developers are thinking of adding to the game, as it would be a shame for the app to just die out once everyone has cracked those eight levels.

The principle of the game itself though is great – who doesn’t like wasting a few minutes of transport time with some classic logo guessing? If you have been playing the game regularly, or if you have already completed all logos, let us know your suggestions on how the Logos Quiz could be kept alive.

When Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S III smartphone recently, one of their touted exclusive features was the Flipboard app which will come bundled on the new phone when it releases at the end of the month. However, thanks to the cunning work of one developer, the app has been yanked from the Galaxy S III and it’s available to download on other Android devices.

Considering that the Galaxy S III isn’t even out yet, it’s pretty amazing to think that an app thought to be exclusive to the handset can be taken just like that and opened up to all Android users. Flipboard is an app that has been available on iOS for a long time, but just like Instagram it has now found its way over to Android.

Rather than being a Galaxy S III exclusive, you can get this working on devices such as the Galaxy Nexus and the HTC One X, simply by extracting the apk file that has been provided over at the XDA Developer Forums. For those unfamiliar with how the app works, it essentially allows you to compile your favorite social media such as Facebook Twitter and other websites into one. You can then swipe with ease and select the things you want to read in more detail with a single click.

If you want to try out Flipboard on your current Android device, make sure you head to settings and select the install apps from non-market option otherwise it won’t work. Let us know how you get on and what device you have managed to get this running. It will be interesting to see if any other Galaxy S III features become available on other Android devices before release.

When it comes to the top apps on iTunes they change frequently and while some stay a while, like Angry Birds, others come and go with quick success and short attention spans. Today another iOS app has caught the eye of iPhone and iPod users in the thousands, and that game is 100 floors although some people want to cheat certain levels.

Puzzle games love to kill spare time – one thing you can count on with harder puzzle apps is the fact that many will steal your spare time, and while some people breezed through 100 floors level 1 to 30, others need a walkthrough for this addicting iPhone game.

Those behind the 100 Floors app promise new floors over time, so you only need to check for updates if you’ve completed the game already and loved it. Those of our readers that need a little help can see the video below this article, which runs you through all the levels. We found the 100 Floors puzzle game simple and great fun, although level 18 caused us a few problems until we figured out you needed to press all the blue lights quickly until they turned off.

Have you had problems with any of 100 Floors levels? Level 9, 10, 28, and 6 were also tricky for us but very simple after we worked them out. It seems stupid really when you get stuck on some levels that are really simple in hindsight.

100 Floors is not the only new app that has caught the attention of iPod and iPhone owners, you might also want to try the Logos Quiz app via our earlier article here.

You will not find many apps that can knock Angry Birds from the top spot on iTunes, and the Ugly Meter app has done just that around 18 months after we first reported about celebrities and their ratings within this iOS application. Some early sales targets expect the Ugly Meter app to reach more than $1 million this month, although it’s worth pointing out that there are two options of the app – one at $4.99 (the Pro option) and one at $0.99, which is the earlier version we first saw 18 months ago.

The latest offering takes Ugly measuring to new scientific levels – the cheaper version launched around 2 years ago is more of a joke, but the latest “Ugly Meter Pro” will scan a photo and measure more than 100 points to give you a score up to 100. This version released within the last two months and has been in the making for around one year, which received an update to v1.1 a few days after launch.

Ugly Meter Pro is average on iOS and extremely disappointing on Android – while the hype surrounding this app helped it reach the top spot in the US, the same cannot be said for reviews from users. We had a play with the $5 version and found it fun but pretty average just as the ratings show (3 stars), although the Android version (now confirmed as a knock off and not official) has a low rating of 1.5 stars and many complaints in the comments found on Google Play. These complaints seem to come with problems including Ugly Meter crashing on Android, and users claiming it’s “a waste of money” and “needs a fix right away“.

Have you used Ugly Meter Pro on iPhone/iPad, and if you’ve used the Android version did you realize it was unofficial? We’ve included a video below this article, which gives you a quick overview of the iOS Pro version.

UPDATE: We’ve just found out that the Android version is not official, hence why it’s plagued with crashing and other problems.

The Logos Quiz app is a game that wants to show you how much you’re picking up while watching TV ads, and while you might joke with friends and family that know loads about adverts it seems you might also know more than you think. After using the Logos Quiz app and providing a few answers on the iPhone it became pretty obvious that we’d soaked up more information than we thought, which shows how well these TV commercials work with our subconscious.

You’ll find over 500 brands within the logo quiz game, and these logos are seen not only on television but also while walking on the street, in subways, and more. The iOS app has been rated on thousands of times and the current version has over 4.5 stars on iTunes, but the game is causing problems for some players and while you can purchase hints, these cost money at 120 hints for $0.99 and 300 hints for $1.99.

The game has made its way to the top of Apple’s iTunes chart and those of you that have played “Logos Quiz” will understand why, and a number of our readers have requested answers to the questions, which surprised us considering there are plenty of solutions on YouTube. We’ve embedded a few videos below this article to give you a visual look at the Logos Quiz app, and also provide you with answers to the Logos Quiz levels from level 1 to 8.

You can also share your score on Facebook and Twitter, although we’d love to know if you’ve used videos to help you with Logos Quiz? How do you rate this app, and do you think it deserves a place at the top of the iTunes chart? It’s worth pointing out that getting the answers could ruin the experience, so proceed with caution that you might have more fun trying yourself.

If you are an avid iOS user, but have always thought that the Face Unlock feature within Ice Cream Sandwich on Android was impressive, we have some very good news for you indeed by way of a new app called FaceVault.

It turns out that one clever developer has managed to create the same experience on iOS and after months of struggles in trying to get the app approved by Apple, it’s now available to download on the app store.

You don’t even need to have a jailbroken device either which may surprise one or two of you. The feature essentially works the same way in which Face Unlock works on Android, as FaceVault will allow you to unlock your device using your picture only. The app also features a pattern unlock mode as well, just in case there are any moments when the app won’t detect your face correctly.

Before you all rush out and download it though, you should be aware that this isn’t a free app. The developer Robert Neagu is seeking a $0.99 fee for the app and for it to recognize your face correctly, you’ll also need an active internet connection. The official notes accompanying the app also states that ‘somebody who looks similar to you’ may be able to unlock the phone as well, so that’s something to bare in mind.

A lot of you are pointing out that the app also takes considerably longer to scan and unlock the device than it does on Android. Being an unofficial app this was probably inevitable, but just having this functionality on iOS is a great little addition for those that love to show off new phone features to your friends.

Check out the rather nice demo video below and let us know your thoughts on the app. Would you be willing to pay $0.99 to have a little taste of Ice Cream Sandwich on the iPhone? Do you think that now Apple has approved it on the App Store, they will be planning to make an official version in the future?

Draw Something is becoming one of the dominant apps on mobile devices and if you haven’t tried it yet, you don’t know what you’re missing. The developers of the popular drawing app have just released an update for the iOS version of the app, finally bringing support for sharing and saving those brilliant, or awful pictures.

Prior to the update, the app didn’t have an official way of saving pictures and annoyingly, the picture would disappear within a second before you had the chance to admire it. Now, with version 1.5.14, you can save your picture after drawing it, and also share it to your Facebook or Twitter space if it is deemed worthy of sharing.

Another nice little addition that we have spotted is that you can now leave a comment on pictures drawn by your opponent. You’ll have to be quick though as the option disappears after a second before automatically switching to the next round. It’s clear that these changes are designed to enhance the social communication amongst users when using the app and according to an article on The Guardian, more changes could be on the way.

For example, we’re hearing that the developers may include some tasks for players to complete when they reach a certain level. For example at say level 25, you only have a certain time limit to guess the drawing, or at a higher level there would be extra barriers in place which make it more difficult to pass.

I’ve just tried out the new update and I’m a little miffed that I’ve just lost my Ice Cream colors after logging in to Facebook with the app to see the changes. So there’s a little warning for those of you that are playing without Facebook – logging in will erase all of your current data with friends, including any colors that you have earned. At least you get five new bombs though, so that’s not all bad.

How do you like the new update on iOS folks? Are you completely addicted to Draw Something at the moment?
