Following on from all the positive news about Google Chrome OS and the expectation after it’s announcement, we have found an article which highlights 5 main reasons why Google Chrome OS is a bad idea.

The article comes from website Slate, who have pointed out 5 potential problems for the upcoming OS. The first problem is the fact that Google Chrome OS will be based on Linux. The problem with Linux is that is still ‘hasn’t caught on’ with consumers and the fact that software compatibility remains a big issue. Linux is unable to run day to day programs such as Outlook, Word, Excel, iTunes or Photoshop and the list goes on.

Google has put a main emphasis for Chrome OS on the internet browser. Slate states that the consumer simply ‘isn’t ready to run everything on the web yet’.

Other problems include rivalry with Microsoft and they have also highlighted the failed programs for Google such as Knol, Lively and Google Checkout.

Since the release of Apple OS 3.0 a lot of features have been mentioned, however not many people have been talking about the new open format for live video streaming over HTTP. Previously Apple have sold QuickTime Streaming Server which uses Real Time Streaming Protocol.

The idea of Apple’s HTTP Live streaming is to create a standard of streaming video which will allow anyone to use it, without the risk of firewalls blocking the communication. HTTP Live Steaming will be viewable in any playback client on any platform.

The way in which HTTP live streaming works is to take the source video/audio and stream it live to your playback client, however the media is chopped up into segments of about 10 seconds rather then sending one continuous stream. By doing this it causes latency however more internet connections will allow the traffic to go through without restricting any of it, the latency then allows for the sengment to join and playback smoothly.

As your iPhone has embedded QuickTime player all you will need is a URL and you will be able to stream the data direct to your iPhone.

Developers Bioware have recently stated that they are looking forward to working on the PS3 for upcoming RPG, Dragon Age: Origins. In a recent interview, they also revealed that developing on the PS3 ‘has it’s advantages’.

When speaking to VideoGamer, Bioware’s Greg Zeschuk said that it was ‘exciting’ to be working on the PS3 and gave some of his reasons why.

“It’s been interesting. It’s actually been quite good. We discovered a couple of things we did were pretty beneficial. We have multiple threads going for the game and it looks really great on the PS3. You can just throw them on all different processors, for example.”

If upcoming game Dragon Age: Origins is anything like Mass Effect or Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, it looks as if fans are in for a treat once it’s released.

After an independant in-game study into speed tests on the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 consoles, it has been revealed that the PS3 takes around 7 times longer than the Xbox 360 when loading up in-game achievements.

That’s according to this GameZine report, who got the results from a forum poster over at NeoGaf. Several other tasks were performed such as the amount of time taken to load up the MarketPlace and PSN and loading up friends profiles.

Gamezine pointed out that the big difference in the PS3 reaction time of loading up trophies could be due to the images that need to be loaded, compared to just figures on Xbox Live.

Nokia’s General Manager in the UK, Mark Loughran, has recently stated that the Apple iPhone 3GS is a disappointment to many and believes that the Nokia N97 will perform better than the 3GS in the future.

As reported from MobileToday, Loughran gave plenty of reasons to justify his comments too. He thinks the Nokia N97 ‘mini-computer’ will outperform the iPhone due to lower tariff costs and better camera.

He stated: ‘The new iPhone seems to have the same design and colour, upgrading from a sub-standard two-megapixel camera to a still low 3.2-megapixel camera, and is probably a disappointment for many people given the high tariff and lifetime ownership costs.’

But then the Nokia N97 wins on the media aspect, which probably didn’t suprise you and the Nokia N97 also has that crucial 3.5mm headphone jack which the HTC Touch Pro2 lacks.

No matter where you look on the Internet, all what you will be reading about is the upcoming Google Chrome OS. Do you think Google has what it takes to take on Microsoft Windows? Computer World explains that the reason for this is that the new Web-centric operating system will drive demand for telecom vendors and wireless operators. In the latter part of 2010, Netbooks with Google Chrome OS will come with fast wireless WAN capabilities, much faster than we have in Netbooks today.

Most Netbooks on the market today come with just Wi-Fi connectivity; this is mainly because of cost. A Wi-Fi chip cost between $3 and $4, this then increases to $5 to $7 for Wi-Fi 802.11n chips. Mini-cards offer 3G and 4G wireless WAN connectivity, but the downside is the cost, this can often add between $50 to $150 to the price of your Netbook.

According to an article on AppleInsider since the announcement of Google’s Chrome OS, Apple may now have no choice but to drive out Eric Schmidt. Eric currently has two major conflicts of interest, due to the fact he represents both Google and Apple.

Before the announcement of Google Chrome OS people already believed Apple should let him go as there was already a conflict of interest with Apple OS for iPhone/iPod and Google’s new Android OS, now with the obvious competition between MAC OS X and Google Chrome OS it seems that this departure should be immanent.

The FTC has already been investigating a possible violation of antitrust between Apple and Google, this will only become a bigger investigation if Eric doesn’t part ways with one of the companies.

We have some news for you to read now, regarding T-Mobile’s important move to 4G LTE adoption. It has been reported that the Voice over LTE via Generic Access (VoLGA) have published the second version of specs for the voice over LTE service.

According to Unstrung, if the specs get approved by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) standards body it means that T-Mobile are one step closer to securing 4G LTE service.

Preparations for voice-over-LTE standards are still at an early stage at the moment, but it looks as if work is picking up to find a solution to the problems quickly.

Yesterday, we saw the release of Apple Safari 4.0.2, which you can download from Apple’s Safari download page, or through your Mac’s Software Update. The update fixes two security vulnerabilities; this could cause problems from maliciously crafted websites.

Mac Rumors also reports that this update helps to improve the stability of the Nitro JavaScript engine. The first of the two security vulnerabilities was to do with websites deploying cross-site scripting attacks.

This issue is to do with how WebKit handles parent and top objects, this could result in cross-site scripting attack, which happens when visiting a maliciously crafted website. The second of the security vulnerabilities help to address arbitrary code execution, this also happens when visiting maliciously crafted websites.

With the release of Windows 7 due late October Microsoft have now put Steven Sinofsky in charge of the whole Windows division. Before this promotion Steven was responsible for rectifying bugs in early Windows 7 releases.

It is understood that Steven will be the head of both the marketing and engineering side of Windows, Windows Live and Internet Explorer. This responsibility seems a lot for one individual, whether it turns out to be too much is yet to be seen.

Whether the recent promotion had anything to do with Internet Explorer 8’s failed advertising campaign is not yet known, however it seems to fit in nicely with the recent unwanted headline.

We reported yesterday that Google are indeed working on an operating system for Netbooks and PCs called Google Chrome OS, a number of business analysts have been saying that Google is the best company to take on Microsoft and its Windows software.

Computer World explains that Google announced to the world in its blog that they were hard at work developing Google Chrome OS and should be ready by the second half of 2010. We already know that Google Chrome OS will be a lightweight and open source; this certainly has its benefits.

Computer World adds that this is a bold move by Google; the OS market is though, one that Microsoft has had a firm grip over for many years. A number of other companies have tried to take the market share from Microsoft, but they have all failed. Google are thought to be Goliath, and are thought to be the only one to be able to take the fight to Microsoft.

According to WirelessandMobileNews BlackBerry desperately need their BlackBerry Tour 9630 to do well, this is due to the significant change in the market since the release of the iPhone 3GS, the Palm Pre and also the reduction in price of the iPhone 3G.

Although there are no official figures it is thought that BlackBerry may have a declining share in the market since the release of the two new popular handsets.

Following the success of the previous BlackBerry handsets the Tour is expected to do well, especially after the positive reviews so far.

Recent sales figures of the Lexus IS250 C and IS350 C convertibles have given the Japanese carmaker great optimism. As a result, Lexus is thinking of offering a convertible version of its IS F sports sedan. This is according to reports from Wards Automotive.

Wards also states that models of the IS250 C and IS350 C folding hardtop convertibles are selling faster than Toyota can make them. The automaker has now told the Kyushu plant to increase production to 1,200 units per month.

Scott Wracher, general manager of Lexus in the eastern area has said that 85 percent of the convertible IS models will offer 204hp from its 2.5-liter V6. Just 15 percent will have the more powerful 306hp 3.5-liter V6 engine.

Prices start from $38,480 for the 250C with manual transmission and $43,940 for the IS 350 C with auto transmission.

It has been reported that T-Mobile are making a real effort to tempt customers into choosing their myTouch 3G handset. We have heard about several apps that the company are preparing to release with the phone.

As reported from Engadget, T-Mobile has told them that they are planning on releasing their own visual voicemail application for the myTouch 3G, as well as an all new entertainment based app called ‘Sherpa’.

Sherpa is an entertainment discovery app that will pick up on your preferences to food, shopping stores and attractions. It will then automatically list them closer to the top so it’s easier for you to find. The app will be location based as well, so it won’t keep coming up with the same results each time either.

Volkswagen are set to concentrate on building new electric vehicles, the first step was to work up a deal worth 10 million Euros with Karmann GmbH to keep the company alive by reorganizing it into a new company. AutoBlog explains that this is according to reports from Neue Osnabruecker Zeitung.

In another report, it states that this new electric vehicle deal is worth 20 million Euros and these cars should go on sale by 2011. Earlier this year, Karmann gave us a sneak peak at its EV concept, which they called the E3 Limosine.

We only have a few short months to go until the release of Modern Warfare 2, and as you would imagine there are now great expectations of the game. The recent issue of Game Informer had a great blurb where its readers were given the chance to ask these questions about Modern Warfare 2 to staff.

There is a huge number of Q and A; we will go through just a few of them with you. The first question was “Can the Modern Warfare 2 campaign be played with two players?” The simple answer to that is no. The second question was if there would be female soldiers this time. This could be possible in multiplayer, but details are a little vague.

Another couple of great questions are, what other characters are there besides MacTavish and “Roach” (which is you). We know of one other so far, and that is Makarov, a Russian ultranationalists. Are there completely destructible environments this time, the simple answer is no. certain things like electrical transformers and crates can be blown up, but that is it.

Engadget have recently had created a side-by-side comparison of the HTC Hero and the myTouch 3G, the comparison does not look deeply into the handsets functionality, it concentrates more on the physical elements of the phone.

There are a lot of different photos showing different angles of the handsets side-by-side. Size wise they seem extremely similar, the myTouch is said to be lighter, however the HTC Hero is said to feel a lot more professional, whereas the myTouch 3G is said to feel more like a toy.

The myTouch is soon to be available on T-Mobile, along with a whole set of accessories, the HTC Hero has still not got a solid release date but should be available in mid July.

In a recent interview with Industry Gamers, Sony’s director of PlayStation Network Operations, Eric Lempel has stated that the Playstation Network is no longer playing ‘catchup’ with Microsoft’s Xbox Live service.

As reported from Edge-Online, it’s no secret that Sony have greatly improved the PSN service by adding similar features seen on Xbox Live such as Cross-game invites, achievements and in-game XMB access.

Eric Lempel thinks that the PS3 also has features that Xbox Live doesnt by stating the following dig at Microsoft:

He stated: “I don’t think there’s a lot of catch up [with XBL] anymore. In some cases, I think we’ve got more, and we’ve got some other things they don’t have.”

Ever since I can remember, the Ford F-150 has been the best-selling light-duty pickup truck in the U.S. However, looking at the recent J.D. Power Information Network, it looks as though General Motors have sold more of its Chevy Silverado 1500 pickups.

PickupTrucks.com explains that 119,959 GM Chevy Silverado 1500’s was sold compared to 107,778 Ford F-150’s. There are no details as to which models have been sold, this is because Ford have always added sales of all its F-Series together to lay claim to the best selling pickup.

All three American automakers improved its sales of pickups against Nissan and Toyota. The latter had the worse sales with its Tundra; sales fell from 76,516 to just 36,106 units by the end of July 2009. For a full breakdown of full-size truck sales, click here
