There are not many Android smartphones to compare it too, but the Droid certainly has something good to offer.

LA Times have been looking at what other Android cell phones the Droid has to compete with; firstly we have the aging T-Mobile G1, the MyTouch 3G and HTC’s Droid Eris. The Eris was launched on the same day as the Droid, but came with the older Android 1.5 OS.

As for being the best phone on Verizon, the Droid never really had much competition in that area. You would have thought that Verizon being the largest carrier in the U.S. would have had a selection of decent handsets, but this was not the case until November 7.

The hardware in the Droid has much more to offer that the iPhone, which is its intended target. We know that the Droid will not compete with the iPhone, but this is the start of the Motorola comeback, so watch this space.

They have now announced new touchscreen systems for the 13 inch Unibody MacBook laptop as well as Apple’s 21.5-inch and 27-inch iMac.

These new systems offer analog resistive touchscreen technology running at a 12 bit touchscreen resolution. The MacBook touchscreen is something that needs to be fully integrated at the factory, there is also a choice for a “SlipCOVER” touchscreen system.

Troll Touch will begin delivery on December 1, in some cases a little before. Prices start at $699.00 for the MacBook Touchscreen and $899.00 and $1099.00 respectively for the 21.5-inch and 27-inch iMacs SlipCOVER version. The internal iMac implementations will cost $1099.00 and $1699.00.

All the Troll products come with a full one year warranty; this can be extended for three years, but comes with a hefty price. However, this is certainly something that you should consider. For more details on these products, visit Troll Touch

Mozilla had hope that this could turn IE into a decent browser, but decided not to go ahead with the idea. This is something that Google should have done as well.

According to The Register, Asa Dotzle from Mozilla Corp. said that this idea of a plug-in much like the one that Google Chrome uses was discussed two years ago. The idea was to try to make Microsoft’s Internet Explorer browser much faster, this would have been achieved by using the Firefox JavaScript engine.

Google thought that there was something good to offer an IE plug-in, which they released last September. Google have also been working hard on Google Wave and have made certain that Internet Explorer is able to run the new software.

Microsoft and Mozilla were not happy about this as they feel that the Chrome Frame would undermine not only the security but privacy as well. The move would also throw a huge amount of confusion if implanted.

For more on this, visit The Register

This is the dilemma that we face each year and now face the same with Black Friday 2009.

There is a solution to this though and a number of stores have been showing us the way. Stores such as JCPenney, Sears, Target, and Wal-Mart have all started Black Friday 2009 Pre-Sales today, Saturday November 7, 2009. These stores hope that these early sales will be able to inject some much needed profits in ailing sales.

We had assumed that the holiday shopping season would start on November 27, 2009, which is Black Friday, but we only had to look at last year to see that something like this was done before. Best Buy and Wal-Mart called it their Black Friday loss-leaders.

There are so many other deals to be had before Black Friday, PC World informs us that Kmart begun its “Better than Black Friday” yesterday, Friday November 6, 2009. They will continue this sale each Friday until November 20.

It is no secret that Verizon customers are waiting out to get their hands on the Apple iPhone, but after their recent advertisements that seemed to bash the iPhone, we all thought that it would never happen. However, there is a new report that suggests that a Verizon iPhone could still be released in 2010.

According to Wired, research firm OTR Global expects to see a Verizon Wireless iPhone in the third quarter of 2010. The firm also claims that Apple are now working on a “worldmode” iPhone, this will then make it compatible to work with the Verizon carrier. This is because Verizon is a CDMA network and the iPhone is only configured to AT&T’s GSM standard.

The original report that AppleInsider received stated that the Verizon iPhone will come with a smaller screen, 2.8-inches rather than the standard 3.5-inches. This is not the first time that rumors of a smaller iPhone have surfaced, but we have to wonder how much truth there is in them.

We know that Apple’s exclusive with AT&T is all set to end in 2010, but we recently assumed that this deal would be extended. Verizon have been working on Apple since the launch of the iPhone to be able to offer the smartphone to its customers.

In other news related to this, AT&T has recently filed a lawsuit and intends to sue Verizon over those recent ads. Do you think that AT&T has case?

We often wonder if Google favors any of the handsets, and it seems that they do.

According to Google Watch, the search engine giant showed advertising on its home page underneath its search bar saying “New! The Droid is on sale now. “They also had a button on the top right, which looked a lot like a software download button.

Search Engine Land then asked the question if this is in fact an “advertisement for Motorola and the Droid phone.” Google Watch did not hang about with its answers, simply saying “Hell Yea.” There is something good to come from all this though, as the Droid will be the one phone to help save Motorola from becoming like one of its old handsets and falling down the back of a couch.

Google certainly have some high hopes for the Droid as it is the first cell phone to feature Android 2.0 OS. They have also included its free Google Maps Navigation GPS service. With Google putting its weight behind Droid we should see some strong sales on the build up to the shopping season.

The Motorola Droid was not the only Android smartphone released yesterday, there was also the HTC Eris. In a recent post what put the two handsets side-by-side to see which cell phone was the best option for you.

I must admit I have never heard of this company, therefore I don’t quite know what to expect, the handset is called the Saygus VPhone V1, and from the looks of it boasts some pretty decent specifications, not only this but the handset looks quite aesthetically pleasing too.

The handset will run Google’s Android OS (not sure which version), it will apparently feature a 3.5 inch capacative touchscreen display which supports a resolution of 800×480, it is said to be powered by a 624MHz processor and will have a 5 megapixel camera.

The handset is said to launch sometime early 2010, you can see more details and a few photos by checking out SlashGear’s article.

Do you think the handset will compete in todays competitive market?

A fully detailed review for the highly anticipated HTC HD2 has recently been posted on SlashGear, their article (seen here) features lots of photos and videos of the handset, we have embedded a highlight video at the end of this post.

Their review is extremely detailed, and looks at many aspects of the handset, one area SlashGear really looked into was web access, the review compared the HD2 with the N900 (both connected via WiFi), they tested load times of 11 different websites, 9 of these loaded faster on the HD2.

For those of you interested in the HD2 I really recommend checking out SlashGear’s full review.

All in all the review comes back pretty favorably, however there are a few aspects where the handset doesn’t deliver, the camera is one example where the handset should do better, that said the handset excels in terms of Internet access, the combination of a good web browser, decent performance hardware and a large display makes web surfing a fast and enjoyable experience.

Following the amount of replies on my previous post (Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala): Are You Experiencing Problems?), I thought I would research just how many people seemed to have problems with the release.

There seems to be a wide-range of problems associated with the new version, most problems seem to be associated with video playback and display-related issues, and by the look of it most problems seem to have occurred during an upgrade rather than a fresh install.

Within Ubuntu’s official forums a poll has taken place, which at this point had 2541 votes, the question asked was “What is your Karmic Koala install/upgrade experience ?”, of the 2541 votes 1392 had carried out upgrades, 471 of these said that the upgrade worked flawlessly, 494 of these said the upgrade worked but had few things to fix, nothing serious though and the remaining 427 reported that the upgrade resulted in so many problems that users have not been able to solve.

The remaining users carried out fresh installs, of these fresh installs 420 users reported the install worked flawlessly, 319 users reported that the install worked but there were a few things to fix, nothing serious though, the remainder of users (410) reported that a fresh install resulted in problems that users have not been able to solve.

I would imagine that the results of this poll are a nightmare for Ubuntu, as there seems to be no pattern what-so-ever, currently from what we can see Ubuntu have not officially addressed the issues with the release, therefore we cannot help you yet, our best advice is to avoid the OS verison for the time being.

What do you think Ubuntu should do about the problems? Do you think their support has been adequate?

Details regarding the Sprint release are currently scarce, one thing we do know is that it looks as if Sprint will be offering the handset in a “royal purple” color. It is thought that Sprint will pre-load the handset with Sprint Music Store, Sprint TV and Media Sync.

Verizon will be offering the handset for $99.99 as part of a two-year agreement, therefore it is expected that Sprint’s pricing will be similar.

As we hear more definite information we will keep you posted, check out SlashGear for more information.

It was released earlier this week on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 in North America, while those of you in Europe can pick up a copy today.

We have news of a patch update now, more specifically patch update v1.0.1. It is not classified as a ‘huge’ update, but still adds some significant features to the game.

The patch weighs in at around 13MB and features: fixed potential corruption of character statistics, tweaked easy mode difficulty to be more easier, increased attack and defense parameters on normal difficulty and fixes to various video issues.

The update is available to download now, the link is here. Install instructions and full patch notes can be found in the link below.

The news originally was posted on BoyGeniusReport, however we sourced our story from IntoMobile, whether offering the handset in another color will increase demand is unknown, however I’m sure there will be some fans.

The e-book currently sells for $13, however the iPhone app costs just $5, the application was submitted to Apple a while back, however there were a few issues getting the app approved.

The application is great as it allows people to unlock the full potential of their iPhone/iPod Touch whilst on the move, lets face it half the time you want to learn how to do something its when you usually have any reference material nearby.

For full details on the application check out MacWorld’s article.

Have you purchased the app? Do you think $5 is a justified asking price? Tell us what you think in the comments section below.

There are currently no definite specifications for the upcoming device, however from what we can see it should use either an AMD Athlon 1.6GHz Neo processor combined with ATI Radeon HD3410 graphics, if not it may use an Intel Centrino 2 ULV 1.4GHz processor combined with GMA 4500MHD graphics.

As for other specifications it seems as if the ThinkPad will feature a 12.1 inch display which will support a resolution of 1280×800, there also should be 3GB of RAM and various other options.

If you read our earlier story, you’ll know that Apple already have working prototypes of new iPhone models, that will come equipped with RFID sensors, for use with swipe payments and other interesting possibilities.

Still, we are some time away from a new iPhone release, with June penciled in as a possible release period for the next version.

Check out the video if you didn’t get the chance to see it back in April. Let us know if you have anything to share on Apple’s RFID ideas.

We have just learned that the Android Media Platform (AMP) has popped up out of nowhere, for those who do not know, the device is an OLED Android 2.0 Handheld.

There are three AMP devices in the family and all have are flash-memory based. All three run on embedded Linux but have an Android OS layer. The loaded software is of a high quality and add to that superb hardware, and you are left with an advanced portable device.

We mentioned above that there are three devices from the AMP family, the first is the 5-inch tablet with its OLED capacitive touchscreen, the others are the 2.5-inch and 10-inch versions, these will be released sometime in 2010.

Other features include an 8-megapixel camera, optional 3G, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. As yet no information has been given to pricing as it has only been released to developrs. Visit Electronista for more details.

This rumor is currently unconfirmed, but to be honest with all of the recent Verizon releases it wouldn’t be too surprising, especially with the Motorola Droid being released soon, some believe the Droid will be huge competition for Apple.

Personally I feel that if this rumor turns out to be true it will be a good move for AT&T, as we hear details which confirm/refute this rumor we will keep you posted, check out IntoMobile for more information.

Would a $99 iPhone 3GS convince you to stick with AT&T?

The wait is over, the Verizon Motorola Droid is finally here and your first chance to get your hands on the first Google Android 2.0 OS cell phone. We have been feeling the anticipation for a while now and the Apple iPhone has now got to flex its muscles to stay ahead of the game.

The Droid is not going to dethrone the Apple iPhone, but it will certainly give it something to think about. Android has got a little tag team going on as the HTC Eris has also launched today. We wonder if the HTC Eris is a viable alternative to the Motorola Droid, well maybe if you are on a tighter budget.

PC World has put the two Android handsets side-by-side to see how they compare. Even before we start we know that the Moto Droid is a far superior handset, but it is all about budget and value for money. This is something that PC World aims to look into.

The look of the cell phones are very different, the Motorola has hard edges, whereas the HTC has a rubberized back and rounded edges. The Droid has a much larger screen but comes at a price, battery power. The biggest difference is in the software, the Verizon Motorola Droid comes with Google Android 2.0 OS and the HTC Eris comes with Android 1.5.

You may remember a few weeks ago when we informed you that UK network 3 were planning to release a special version of the HTC Hero, complete with an integrated Spotify app.

As reported from Pocket-Lint, we can now confirm that the handset is now available to buy, giving music lovers who are searching for a new phone, the perfect scenario.

The HTC Hero from 3 is now available both in-store and online and for £35 a month on a 2-year contract, will give customers a 24-month subscription to Spotify Premium, complete with 750 minutes and unlimited texts and internet data.

However, customers will need to pay £100 on top to take home the HTC Hero for free. It will be interesting to see how this takes off.

Im a frequent user of Spotify myself, so I would be hoping that this deal gets extended onto other handsets. Let us know what you think of the deal. Are you interested?
