Baume & Mercier has released a preview of the Classima Executives XL Chronograph that will be officially unveiled at SIHH 2010, which starts January 18, 2010. This is a chronograph, but it also features a complete calendar function and a 24 hour indicator.

Last week, A. Lange & Sohne released a preview of their new Lange 1 Daymatic timepiece. It will be introduced next month, at the SIHH show, in Geneva Switzerland. The original Lange 1 premiered over 15 years ago, and has been a icon of the prestigious Glashutte manufacture ever since. For 2010, Lange has created an all new Lange 1, the Daymatic. The new timepiece, of course, features an exclusive in-house movement, but unlike previous models, this one is self-winding.

Maurice de Mauriac is a Zurich based watchmaker that produces customized watches. The company has been around for 12 years and was founded by long time watch business executive Daniel Dreifuss. When I spoke with Daniel, last Friday, regarding MDM timepieces he said, "we produce each day something new, new dial, new hand, always something better, everyday something.... we never know what is next." A good example of what Daniel is talking about, is the watch shown here. It is the newest model from their Chronograph Modern collection. It will be available in 2010.

Panerai Radiomir PAM349 Cali Minerva Ti

Officine Panerai recently introduced a 12 piece limited collector's edition watch called the Radiomir PAM349, with a Cali dial, gold luminous hands and Minerva hand wound movement. It features an uncommonly large 47mm titanium case, which is actually the size of the 1936 prototype and 1938 production models for which it is based.

Gustafsson & Sjogren watches are the result of a partnership between Swedish knifesmith Johan Gustafsson and Swedish watchmaker Patrik Sjogren. What do knifes have in common with watches? Well, in this case, Damascus steel. Damascus steel is a thousand plus year old technique of hot-forging steel, originally used to create blades for swords. But not just any blades, blades of legendary sharpness and strength. Johan and Patrik came up with another great use, though, they decided to use this forging technique, to create beautiful handmade watch dials.

Actor Robert Downey Jr., star of Iron Man 2 and the new Sherlock Holmes film (to be released in a couple weeks) was wearing his Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Squadra Chronograph GMT when he had his hands put in the worldfamous sidewalk at Grauman's Manns Chinese Theatre earlier in December! Grauman's Chinese Theatre is a movie theater located at 6925 Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood, along the historic Hollywood Walk of Fame. The theater opened May 18, 1927. It has since been home to many premieres, birthday parties, corporate junkets and three Academy Awards ceremonies. Among the theater's most distinctive features are the concrete blocks set in the forecourt, which bear the signatures, footprints, and handprints of popular motion picture personalities from the 1920s to the present day.
