What is this?
This guide tells you how to install OSX 10.4.9 on your Intel or AMD Windows machine, dual booting with Vista. This guide is for information purposes only.

Read this before reading the guide:
There are only two ways to install OSX 10.4.9 legal on your Windows computer:
1. Become an Apple developer
2. You can also buy an Intel Mac (I would recommend the Mac Pro!), install Windows Vista on it using Apple’s Boot Camp and remove OSX completely, so that you have a legally bought osx86 licence. This method isn’t confirmed and some people say it’s illegal because the EULA says that you aren’t allowed to install OSX on non-Apple hardware.
This means that for most people it is ILLEGAL to install osx on their computer. If you aren’t an Apple developer, leave page now. This site is in no way liable or responsible for the actions of its visitors.

IMPORTANT: DOWNLOADING OSX86 (a prepatched OSX 10.4.8 install image) IS ILLEGAL. Don’t ask me where you can download OSX86, not in a comment, not by e-mail, not by phone, not by sending a telegram and not by any other way you can imagine. Just don’t ask me. If you don’t know it and still want it, become an Apple developer or BUY A MAC!

Remember what you thought when your 4.4 GB DVD bittorrent download was finally completed and you saw that it was just a converted cam? Yes? Want to prevent that from happening next time? This guide tells you how to determine the quality after downloading about 100MB.

Partially downloaded DVD

1. Make sure your downloadprogram isn’t adding strange extensions to partially downloaded files (like .bc in bitcomet, you can disable this functions in the preferences)

2. Download the first 100MB of a DVD.

3. Open the folder where you’ve placed the first 50-100MB. If you see a folder called VIDEO_TS, skip to step 9, if you see one or more RAR files, go on with the next step.

4. Open the RAR file/open the first RAR file with winRAR. Hit “Extract to” and mark “Keep broken files”. Hit OK after doing that.

5. A screen will popup, you want to edit all files from the current volume so hit the first option.

6. After a few seconds another window will popup, hit cancel.

7. An error will popup, close it with the little cross on the right top.

8. Close winRAR and open the folder where you’ve extracted the DVD.

9. Load the VIDEO_TS folder in your favorite DVD player (I would recommend VLC player)

Partially downloaded AVI (divx, xvid etc.)

1. Download the first 20-80MB of an AVI movie and make sure you’ve got all the codecs needed to play the file.

2. Download AviPreview by clicking HERE and install the program

3. Open the folder where you’ve placed the first20-80MB. If you see an AVI file, skip to step 9, if you see one or more RAR files, go on with the next step.

9. Start AviPreview and open the AVI!

Partially downloaded image (ISO, Bin, MDF etc.) files

1. Download the first 20-100MB of an AVI movie and make sure you’ve got all the codecs needed to play the file.

2. Open the image with a program like ultraISO, winISO or magicISO and extract it.

3. Depending on the file in the image follow one of the guides above.

Yes, I know this post is completely of the blogs topic, though I think it would be interesting to start a discussion about Apple shares. Most people in the papers don’t know anything about Apple and the impacts of new releases (yes, they can look at those annual reports and make conclusions, but has that method proved to work once?), which means that most don’t see the announcements coming and that the stocks will stay low until the announcement itself.

Let’s start with the geek theories: If you bought an Apple share at Jun 14, 2006 for the market price of only $50 because you knew that Apple was going to release some cool things on WWDC 2006 (August the seventh 2006) and you could sell it today for $86 and make 72% profit in half a year! But you aren’t going to sell the shares and if you don’t have any shares your going to buy then now because you know that:

- WWDC07 will be held from June 11-15
- On this conference Apple will most likely introduce a new Dual Quadcore Mac Pro
- and a new line of ultraportable notebooks (tablets?)
- and Leopard
- and the iPhone will start shipping

- Windows Vista is overhyped at the moment and soon everyone will realize that OSX performs better for daily computer use.
- Windows Vista is overpriced
- Zune, anyone? The new Zune has been a disaster
- Apple has the best ads ever: People go to apple.com site to see the ads in their spare time!
- Microsoft ads? Can’t remember one… (well, maybe those running on a Macbook).

In my opinion the points described above will cause the AAPL to explode, though there is something you need to know:

- The iPhone, yeah, it’s cool, but does anyone want to pay $499 + a two year contract for a first gen Apple phone?
- The Dual Quad Core will be out of reach for 90% of the people on this earth.
- People that bought won’ switch to OSX in the next few years and most people that didn’t/won’t upgrade are to scared to switch to OSX.
- Ultra Portable’s? That sounds expensive and slow….

Of course those last points will get to the big investors days after the announcements so the market will explode and then crash a few days later… or not? The market didn’t crash after the expensive Dual Dual Core launch. Please post your opinion in a comment.

Did you know that you can set a website as your desktop background since Windows 98? Thanks to Microsoft’s Active Desktop you can set any website as your desktop background, imagine the possibilities: Your AdSense income as your desktop background, the latest digg.com updates, live tv streams….

There’s only one little sidenote: Microsoft exchanged the Active Desktop feature for an useless sidebar in Windows Vista. Thanks Microsoft! After some searching I managed to find a laptop running WIndows XP and wrote the following guide for windows 98-XP users. As you see the feature isn’t really hidden, though I didn’t notice it before.

1. Click on an empty place on your desktop with your right mouse button and select properties. Go to the desktop tab and select customize desktop.

2. Hit the web tab and press new. Now you can type in the web address of the site you want to add. After typing it in hit OK.

3. Select yes and stop the downloading of the site. Select the site you added in the list and hit Properties. Deselect “Make this page available offline”.

4. Hit OK in all open windows. Wait a few seconds and the site will appear on your desktop! Move you mouse over the top left corner and a menu will appear. It’s also possible to resize the site by moving your mouse over the border. I think you can manage by yourself.

If someone ask me to give the #1 most useless application of Windows Vista, I’ll give him, accepting that UAC isn’t a program, the new Windows Vista Sidebar. Those widget’s are nice to play with, but I always liked a clean desktop with only one icon on it (the bin). Why do I want feeds on my desktop when I have my new Google partnerpage? To search the web with Google, starting firefox from the start menu and then typing the search string takes as much time as typing the term in a gadget and let the gadget start firefox. That’s why I immediately disabled the sidebar after installing Vista. Though now, after months of Vista use, I though that one thing could expand my desktop in a useful way: A Google MP3 search gadget. I don’t download songs using Google that much, but if someone asks if you got some kind of popular song and you don’t want to use limewire, a quick Google search gives you the song in 1 minute.

That’s why I started dreamweaver (yeah, those gadgets are just plain html/javascript!) and wrote a small Google MP3 Search widget:

You can download the widget here (redirects to gallery.live.com).

To get a song: Just type the name of the song or artist in the blank searchbar and hit enter.

DISCLAIMER:

This piece of software is only intended to demonstrate the power of Google search and eventually to download non-copyrighted songs. In most countries it is illegal to download copyrighted songs (I mean: Don’t download Norah Jones’ latest songs using this tool, buy her CD instead, it’s worth the money). We are in no way liable for the thing you do with this gadget.

Note:
I wrote this guide because I get around 10 e-mails a week with people asking if it’s possible to get a clean OSX only installation. This guide covers every single detail about installing OSX 10.4.8 on a regular Intel/AMD computer. I think most of you don’t need this guide and are way more interested in this guide about dual booting OSX and Vista.

Read this before reading the guide:
There are only two ways to install OSX 10.4.8 legal on your Windows computer:
1. Become an Apple developer
2. You can also buy an Intel Mac (I would recommend the Mac Pro!), install Windows XP on it using Apple’s Boot Camp and remove OSX completely, so that you have a legally bought osx86 licence. This method isn’t confirmed and some people say it’s illegal because the EULA says that you aren’t allowed to install OSX on non-Apple hardware.
This means that for most people it is ILLEGAL to install osx on their computer. If you aren’t an Apple developer, leave page site now. This site is in no way liable or responsible for the actions of its visitors.

So what is this?
This is a guide about installing the newest OSX build on your regular computer, so not on an Apple, but on a Linux/Windows comuter. Following this guide will remove everything installed on your computer. This guide is NOT for dual booting OSX. If you don’t want to lose data and/or want to dual boot OSX, go to this page.

You need:
1. A prepatched OSX 10.4.8 install image (you need to be an Apple developer to get this and it isn’t allowed to download the file you get by typing the search term “JaS” on the regular places).
2. An empty DVD recordable (+R or –R, NO Rewritable!)
3. At least 6 GB free space on a HD.
4. A SSE2 supporting processor (SSE only isn’t supported, SSE2 and/or SSE3 is supported)
7. I warmly recommend the Google Pack if you want to

The guide:
0. Make sure the processor of the machine you’ll be installing supports at least SSE2! If the computer runs Windows, you can check this requirement by installing CPU-Z.

1. Get a prepatched OSX install image.

2. Burn the image to an empty dvd recordable (+R or –R)
Use your favorite burn program for this (I recommend Nero Burning Rom or Alcohol 120%)

Don’t read the next step until you backupped all important data on your computer!

3. Insert the OSX install disk and reboot your computer.

4. Boot the DVD, when the grey Apple stops spinning, select your Language (I’ll choose English for this guide)

5. On the top of the screen, click ‘Utilities’ and then ‘Disk Utility’.

iTunes 7 is about the slowest program that ever made it to my Sony VAIO (about 3 years old, running Vista RTM). Opening the tag edit screen of a song takes 10 seconds, scrolling through a large library feels like pushing an elephant through a small door, Vista isn’t allowing to start the program thruogh the start menu (the icon is there, though it isn’t responding after clicking it: just one of those bugs in Vista I think..) and updating my iPod is just the most horrible task ever.

That’s why I deleted iTunes form my PC and started to use the Windows Explorer to manage my music, it works perfectly! Only one problem: Can’t update my iPod… Time to get some real iTunes alternatives! Sadly I don’t have time to write reviews so I’ll just post a list, maybe I can free some time next week and post a review, though it would be nice if you’ll post your experiences is a comment.

In computer security, an exploit is a piece of software, a chunk of data, or sequence of commands that take advantage of a bug, glitch or vulnerability in order to get unintended or unanticipated behavior out of computer software, hardware, or something electronic (usually computerized). This frequently includes such things as gaining control of a computer system or allowing privilege escalation or a denial of service attack. [source: wikipedia]

That’s exactly the thing we want to do isn’t it? In the next few steps I’ll teach you how to find and execute an exploit while running Windows.

1. First you need to get an exploit. You can use the a Google term like “wordpress exploit”. Soon you’ll find out that http://www.milw0rm.com/ is one of the best sites to find exploits (the search button is on the top of the site).

2. Found an exploit? Let’s verify that it’s a Perl exploit. The source of Perl exploits always start with the following:

#!/usr/bin/perl
#

3. Now download the exploit or save it as a .pl file. If you can’t download it, copy the source in notepad and save it as exploit.pl

4. Download ActivePerl.

Windows (x86): http://downloads.activestate.com/ActivePerl/Windows/5.8/ActivePerl-5.8.8.819-MSWin32-x86-267479.msi

Windows (x86_64 AMD64): http://downloads.activestate.com/ActivePerl/Windows/5.8/ActivePerl-5.8.8.819-MSWin32-x64-267479.msi

5. Install ActivePerl by executing the file you downloaded. Hit next a few times, mark “Add Perl to the PATH” and “Create Perl file extension variable”, click next again and hit install. After the installation hit finish.

6. Now open an command prompt. In Windows Vista: Press [Windows Button] + [R], type ‘cmd’ without the quotes and hit enter. In XP go to start > execute, type ‘cmd’ without the quotes and hit enter.

7. Browse to the folder withe the exploit.pl. I hope you know how to use the command prompt, if you don’t I’ll suggest you’ll leave this site now cause exploits can do serious harm and I don’t think you know what you are doing. If you knew how to do it a few years ago and can’t remember: ‘cd ..’ to ‘leave the folder’ and ‘cd folder’ to open a folder. Use ‘dir’ to list the contents of a folder.

8. Arrived in the right folder? Type exploit.pl and hit enter. There’ll appear some sort of usage instruction on the screen. Example:

exploit.pl <www.example.com> </path/> “cmd”

This means that you need to type exploit.pl followed by the website’s URL (www.example.com) and then followed by the path, the location of the script you’re going to exploit (/path/).

9. All you need to do now is think twice and then hit enter.

10. I hope you understand that it is illegal to use exploits on things/sites that aren’t yours. This site isn’t responsible for your actions, we only provide information for people who want to know HOW to do it, not for people that WANT to do it. Forget everything you read above if you think that you are going to do some harm with the information.

11. Make a donation to paypal@profit42.com, I need to get a new computer….
