Bakelit is a new Swedish progressive art rock project, founded by Carl WESTHOLM known from CARPTREE, CANDLEMASS, AVATARIUM, JUPITER SOCIETY, KRUX, ABSTRAKT ALGEBRA, HOLLINGSHEADd and others with collaborators and friends from earlier projects. The debut album "Asleep or Insane" was released in October 2024, with single "The Coolest Place on Earth".
Less than a year later, Bakelit is back with "No Fear of Drowning" on September 26th 2025. Just like its predecessor, the songs evolved from sessions involving unpredictable electronic machinery, eventually developing into six tracks that straddle the line between progressive art rock and electronic music. Drummer Jonas Kllsbck, known from THE NIGHT FLIGHT ORCHESTRA, GATHERING OF KINGS, and other acts, joins the line-up for this album.
?No Fear of Drowning? is a dramatic album, with lyrics that explore the darker aspects of the human psyche, yet these are the very qualities that can make us stronger and more determined to do good.
The album will be released worldwide on 26 September 2025, preceded by the singles "From the Underground" on 5 September and "Moment of Peace" on 15 September.

AMBIENT DEN (Crossover Prog)

AMBIENT DEN is a progressive rock project by multi-instrumentalist Ben CRAVEN, keyboardist/vocalist Tim BENNETTS (SEVEN DAY MASK, SUB INC), and drummer Dean POVEY (FRANKENFIDO), all from Australia.

Tim originally met Ben in 2017, and after a couple of informal jams they discussed the idea of writing some music together, which began in earnest in December 2018. Ben had already played with Dean previously in his other band FRANKENFIDO, and the three of them joined forces in the summer of 2022 to play at a corporate gig that Dean had committed to. During their rehearsals of the intended setlist of cover songs, they took time out to work on some music that Tim and Ben had already written, and they soon became convinced that the material was worth developing into an album.

The name AMBIENT DEN is actually an anagram of 'Tim', 'Ben', and 'Dean', though Tim and Ben had originally performed under the name PROGAUSTRALIS - with their first gig as a duo being on Friday 5th July 2019 at the Junk Bar, Ashgrove, Brisbane - but what had initially started out as a series of experimental jam sessions between CRAVEN and BENNETTS had now evolved into a full-fledged band project, with all three members sharing common influences of the great prog bands of the 1970s, such as YES, GENESIS and PINK FLOYD.

AMBIENT DEN's self-titled debut album is based on a concept that tells the story of mankind's search for a new home amongst the stars, culminating in the creation of a distant and inhabitable new world. The album was produced by Ben CRAVEN, and his trademark influences on the overall sound can be easily heard, but the songwriting was a collaborative effort involving all three band members.

The album consists of six main tracks and four single edits, and there is a strong PINK FLOYD feel to the music throughout. It was released via Desert Comb Music on 28th July 2025.

AEROSTATION (Crossover Prog)

AEROSTATION is a progressive rock band formed by Italian-French composer, keyboardist, singer, producer, musicologist and artistic director Alex CARPANI and Gigi Cavalli COCCHI (former drummer of LIGABUE, CLAN DESTINO & CONSORZIO SUONATORI INDIPENDENTI) in late 2016.

Gigi and Alex were joined in the project by Jacopo ROSSI (DARK LUNACY, NERVE, ANTROPOPHAGUS) guesting on bass to complete what is essentially a power trio without a guitarist, with CARPANI instead using his custom keytar to explore new musical boundaries and merge a number of different genres and styles. These include alternative rock, crossover prog, hard rock, electronic music, elements of pop, and even some ambient sounds.

The idea of the project began in the autumn of 2015, after Gigi Cavalli COCCHI had just performed with LIGABUE at Campovolo 3 in front of more than a hundred thousand people, and Alex CARPANI was putting the finishing touches to his album 'So Close, So Far' in Milan. Both musicians were already thinking about branching out with new projects, and at the end of 2016 Alex and Gigi decided to work together as a duo, with the collaboration of Jacopo ROSSI on bass.

The mixing of the project's self-titled debut album was completed in early October 2017, and from April to September 2018 AEROSTATION performed live premieres of the album both in Italy and abroad (France & Canada) well in advance of its eventual release in October of that year.

Alex CARPANI provides both lead and backing vocals on the album, which was eventually released by Aereostella via Immaginifica on October 5th, 2018 and physically distributed by Self Distribuzione S.r.l. It is described as concept album about various aspects of exploration: of humans, of space and time, and of how individuals communicate and connect with each other.

AEROSTATION have performed numerous concerts since then, including opening for PFM at several major events, and their sophomore album 'Rethink' will be released worldwide on September 19th via Alex CARPANI's own label Independent Artist Records, and physically distributed by Pick Up Records. Pre-production of the album was actually completed in December 2020 at Alex's home studio, but its final release has been delayed for almost five years.

Jacopo ROSSI has been the project's bassist throughout its almost nine years of existence, and he is now regarded as a permanent member of the band. Both AEROSTATON albums feature 11 songs, those containing vocals all being sung in English.

Tribe are a three-piece progressive rock band from Bridgend, South Wales, UK who were formerly known as ELEKTRIK, an instrumental fusion band working towards their debut album before being stopped in their tracks by the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020. Following the change of name and musical direction, the band consisted of Jon KINSEY (vocals, drums, keyboards), Chris JONES (guitar) and Steve HUGHES (bass, keyboards, bass pedals). The change of focus resulted in the band adapting some of the original instrumental pieces to include Kinsey's vocals and lyrics.

Chris Jones started out on his musical journey by forming a band called GENEVA in the early 80s, who were located in the south east of England and recorded an album which was progressive in nature but has still yet to be released. Later he formed a band called The DOUGSs, with Jon Kinsey on drums, and they released an instrumental album that had a jazz-rock/fusion flavor. After that, he did a stint in a band called EZRA in the 1990s - a band which Steve Hughes had also been member of many moons before. Following this, he decided to take some time out prior to joining/forming Tribe.

Following the release of their debut album, Tribe received an immediate standing ovation for their performance at the 'Prog for Peart' festival at Abingdon, England, on July 13, 2024 - despite having to use a backing track for drums on all but the final song due to drummer Jon having to focus on his other role in the band as a vocalist/keyboard player. This was repeated after their subsequent performance at the HRH Prog Festival in October that year - only this time with guest live drummer Greg Paulett on stage with them, whom the band had only recruited a couple of weeks beforehand. As a 13 year old, Greg had played in his first band alongside Doug Irvine, the original bassist and co-founder of Marillion.

A second album "Life Amongst Strangers" was released on March 24, 2025, with the band subsequently signing to the ProgRock.Com's Essentials label in June of that year, and they are already working on album number three, with the tracks that will make up the album being sketched out in their basic form as of August 2025. Tribe play an accessible neo-prog, primarily keyboard-driven, and with a song structure and sound not too dissimilar to the likes of GALAHAD and the electronic side of 1980s RUSH, or THE CYBERIAM. Comparisons have also been made with bands such as IQ, JADIS, IT BITES, ENCHANT, MARILLION, LIFESIGNS & SAGA.

NICKOLAS MOHANNA (Progressive Electronic)

Born in 1979, Nickolas Mohanna is an American musician and audiovisual artist from Brooklyn, active since 2003. Mohanna began issuing music under the name Vakhchav from 2006 and 2009, releasing five limited-run CDRs while an art student at University of California, Davis, before dropping the moniker for his given name by 2010's Transmission Hue. Since then, his discography has expanded by over a dozen more as of this writing, distributed under various labels, one of which Mohanna's very own multimedia imprint Run/Off Editions (established in 2014).

Using processed guitar, synthesizers, brass, percussion and even hand-made playable sculptures, Mohanna combines instruments with field recordings and samples from the Internet, shaping densely-layered and perpetually-shifting kaleidoscopic soundscapes. The New Yorker's mostly-improvised style borrows from kosmische musik and sound collage, with critics comparing him to classic Tangerine Dream, Oneohtrix Point Never, Golden Retriever, Biosphere and even Oval, the Necks and Fennesz. Percussive and free improv influences crept into his work by 2019's Smoke, blossoming completely by 2021's Nerve Plexus, which saw Mohanna shaping a new musical idiom of electroacoustic jazz and drone similar to his contemporaries Aidan Baker, Fabio Orsi and Oren Ambarchi.

KAPITAL (Progressive Electronic)

Kapital are the Polish electroacoustic music duo of Rafał Iwański (aka X-Navi:Et and member of HATI) and Jakub "Kuba" Ziołek (of T'ien Lai and formerly Stara Rzeka), who've performed together in post-everything collective Innercity Ensemble since 2011. The duo chose the name after being invited to play together at LDZ Festival, expressing reformist concerns about the predatory nature of late stage capitalism, influenced by Gilles Deleuze, Jean Baudrillard and Hakim Bey's Temporary Autonomous Zone (Iwański: "I remembered what seemed like a prediction - that one day capital will eventually have to face the rage and violence it deserves").

Based in Bydgoszcz, Iwański and Ziołek use instruments and amplified objects to perform a post-industrial, mostly-improvised take on kraut-damaged drone, oozing with electric guitar-centric psychedelia like a meeting of the minds between Maeror Tri, Manuel Gttsching, Matthew Bower and their most-obvious stylistic hero Richard Pinhas. Indeed, it was a concert by the Heldon founder and his son Duncan in April 2013 which chiefly inspired the birth of Kapital, with Iwański and Ziołek enamoured by Pinhas' noisy post-millennial solo work (particularly his albums with Merzbow).

Kapital made their debut with 2014's No New Age LP, released jointly through Bocian and Sangoplasmo Records, followed by two further albums on the Instant Classic label: 2015's Chaos to Chaos and 2018's Flux. The latter was a collaboration with Richard Pinhas thanks to a commission from the 2014 edition of Unsound Festival in Krakw, the results of studio jams recorded in the days before their joint live set.

UEH (Post Rock/Math rock)

Founded in 1996, Ueh were a French post-rock band from Toulouse and the brainchild of Hyperclean's Frdric Jean (guitar/bass/drums) and Stphane Mounica (guitar/bass). Aquaserge's Audrey Ginestet (bass/guitar) entered in 1998, followed by fellow Hyperclean/Aquaserge member Benjamin Glibert (guitar/drums) and Rmi Loridant (trumpet/synthesizer) in 2001, with studio engineer Olivier Cussac (trumpet/vibraphone) completing the lineup shortly thereafter. Mostly instrumental and partially improvised, Ueh's jazzy laid-back groove and mellow shimmering drift recalls at various points the Necks, Magnog, Tortoise and Boris, and sometimes nearly achieves full-blown psychedelic rock a la Aquaserge.

With Jean releasing a mononymously-titled album of psych-folk via Acid Mothers Temple's personal label in 2001, Ueh found their greatest champion in collective frontman Makoto Kawabata, who featured their piece "Cambous" and Jean's solo work on the 2002 compilation Do Whatever You Want, Don't Do Whatever You Don't Want!!, with the same track later appearing on Ueh's limited edition self-titled double album. Ueh followed up with the Kawabata split/collaborative EP Pataphysical Overdrive to My Cosmos in 2004, the same year the group embarked on their sole USA tour with the AMT guitarist and Seattle band Kinski.

Ueh never recorded any new music, but still occasionally performed live with and without their friend Kawabata up until late 2013.

SPELTERINI (Krautrock)

Founded in 2017, Spelterini are a French neo-krautrock quartet from Nantes and the creative vision of Can/Faust-loving musician Meriadeg Orgebin (who also records as Draache). Along with Orgebin (guitar/electronics) is Nicolas Joubaud (guitar) - both of defunct like-minded group Chausse Trappe - as well as Arthur de La Grandire (bass/electronics) and Pierre-Antoine Parois (drums) of Papier Tigre and La Colonie de Vacances. The self-dubbed "drum & drone" band takes their name from Maria Spelterini, the 19th-century Italian tightrope daredevil, chosen to symbolise the aesthetic balance of relentlessly repetitious motorik minimalism and nervy industrial post-punk.

Signed to Nantes label Kythibong Records, Spelterini have a trio of albums to their name - 2019's Perglisol / Chormanie, 2022's Paridolie and 2025's Hyomon-Dako / Magnsie - with each LP's material refined through live performance before being committed to record. Spelterini's instrumental approach is often compared by critics to This Heat, with additional influences detected from Sonic Youth, Radian, Heldon and Kleg.

DOCTORS OF SPACE (Psychedelic/Space Rock)

Doctors of Space started off as duo of synthesizers by Dr SPACE (<a href="http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=2642"target="_blank"> RESUND SPACE COLLECTIVE , BLACK MOON CIRCLE) and guitars, bass and programmed drums by Martin WEAVER (DARK, WICKED LADY), respectively. The band music was mostly all improvised electronic space rock music. Sometimes the pieces are based on synth drones with heavy or spacey guitar. Martin is a master of looping so multiple layers of guitar can be going on. In addition, pre-recorded loops of drums and bass (played by Martin) can be mixed into some tracks. The duo meets once a month to experiment and lay down new music. The group is based in central Portugal and has been performing together since May 2018. The group performed several concerts in Tbua and has performed at the Sonic Rock Solstice Festival in Moledo. April 2021, we provided an exclusive set for Roadburn Festival.

The band's debut album was released in October 2020, and we had hoped to follow this up with gigs across Portugal and possibly abroad (if we can get them!!)!! In April 2021, our 2nd album (CD only), THE COVID SESSIONS was released. In March 2022 we released the first of our CD-R series- THE ASTRAL SESSIONS- VOL 1. Our next studio album, MIND SURGERY came out in Summer 2022 on the Spanish label, Guerssen! In late 2022, Dr WEAVER retired his guitar and is now focused on drum and bass synthesizer as the band enter a new era of sound! Our first all-electronic album called A CHANGE OF LAB COAT came out in 2023. Two new studio albums are due in 2024-25 and a few rare concerts.

Augenmusik are the German electroacoustic side project of Stuttgart-based krautrock collective Metabolismus. The trio consists of the Tower Recordings' Samara Lubelski (violin/effects) along with Sinergia Elettronica and Umwurf members Werner Ntzel (tapes/electronics) and Thilo Kuhn (electronics). Their name is a reference to graphical notational scores which also double as works of visual art ("Eye Music").

The project appeared on the scene in 2015 with their self-titled debut album, released on cassette via Eiderdown Records, performing lysergic and constantly-morphing violin-centric instrumentals adrift in deep space like early krautrock: direct descendants of Burning Star Core, Axolotl, Agencement and especially the Taj Mahal Travellers' Takehisa Kosugi and his celebrated 1974 LP Catch-Wave. Augenmusik's follow-up, Lucky Crystal Wave / Exit Generator, was issued on limited-run CDR through Chocolate Monk in 2022.

DWELLER AT THE THRESHOLD (Progressive Electronic)

Dweller at the Threshold were an American neo-Berlin School trio from Portland, Oregon. Between 1993 to 2005, the band performed melodic, atmospheric and sequencer-heavy instrumentals with analog and digital synthesizers, in debt to Tangerine Dream, Klaus Schulze and Jean-Michel Jarre and in the vein of their contemporaries Radio Massacre International, Redshift, Airsculpture, Ron Boots and Free System Projekt (with whom Fulton and Duval recorded their final LP). Their discography - modest compared to the majority of their peers - consists of four full-lengths, two compilations and a posthumous live album, released through labels Eurock, Hypnos and Quantum Records.

Founding synthesists Paul Ellis and Jeff Vasey originally played together in the more Skinny Puppy-influenced project Tribal Machine, later meeting Eugene transplant Dave Fulton through Portland improvisational electronic collective Dumpster. Frustrated by Dumpster's lack of direction, the three joined forces to create more composed sounds, later changing their name to Foundation and then finally Dweller at the Threshold, in reference to H.P. Lovecraft. Fulton took charge alongside Ellis, with Vasey becoming more peripheral before departing the project after their second LP to focus on raising a family, soon replaced by John Duval; Ellis followed suit after the third LP. The band's live shows took them across the United States and beyond, performing at Berlin School-friendly touchstones like Chuck van Zyl's Gatherings Concert Series and the Dutch Alfa Centauri Festival.

In the aftermath of the band's split, Ellis and Fulton stayed busy with solo careers and collaborations (with the latter forming krautrock outfit Mtrik in 2012), both continuing to record as of this writing. Fulton announced the band's resuscitation in spring 2012, planning to release an album with new age/ambient artist Giles Reaves, but the project was ultimately scrapped.

AGNES HIGH QUALITY (Post Rock/Math rock)

In existence from 2000 to 2005, Agnes High Quality were an American instrumental math rock trio from Cleveland, Ohio. Their curious moniker was a reference to the obscure Apple text-to-speech software Macintalk. Having previously played together in a metal band, Heinrik Hellwig, Stephen Poprocki and Tim Thornton bonded over their love of progressive rock and Lucas sequences, with each member juggling guitars, bass, synthesizers, percussion, laptops and samples.

Agnes High Quality's discography consists of two full-lengths: 2002's En Passant and 2005's Lucas With Changing Parts, both released on CDR through the band's own Basement Boy Enterprises label. Splitting the difference between groups like Mogwai and 65daysofstatic, Agnes High Quality moved between playful and pensive moods, each piece a self-contained world incorporating jazz, ambient, krautrock and minimalist classical influences, all shot through with IDM/glitch textures Thornton later pursued in his post-Agnes solo projects Les Cousins Dangereux, CDX and Tiger Village.

Agnes High Quality ended in the autumn of 2005 when Hellwig and Poprocki left Ohio to further their academic careers, with Thornton still musically active as of this writing. The trio began a Bandcamp page in 2017, issuing three further archival releases recorded during their short tenure.

MAGNOLIA is an experimental post-rock/post-punk band which was formed by a group of college students in Norwich, UK, in 2022. Initially operating as a four-piece consisting of George RODGERS (guitar, vocals), Matthew CREEGAN (guitar), Adam TURNER (bass, vocals) and Harrison PEEK (drums), the band has since expanded to an eight-piece with the addition of Daisy GREEN on saxophone, Tom REYNOLDS on percussion, keyboards & programming, Matthew CASSIE on Trombone and Trudi ALLEN on violin.

Matthew and George had been friends since high school, and had been practicing music together since they were in their early teens. Harrison went to the same high school, but mixed with a different group of friends, apart from one mutual friend who introduced Harrison and Adam to Matt and George after the band that they had been playing in decided to split up. Matt and George then met saxophonist Daisy on the last day of their freshman year at college, and invited her to join the band.

Tom REYNOLDS first became known to the band as a photographer who used to attend the their concerts, and he was also reputed to be a useful drummer, who was also familiar with MIDI. He had recently been guesting on drums for another Norwich-based band called DOLLSKINS, so they asked him if he'd like to join MAGNOLIA. George RODGERS initially wanted to add a tuba player, but Daisy said she knew an excellent trombone player named Matthew CASSIE, so in the end they decided to compromise and asked him to join the band instead. Violinist Trudi ALLEN was the most recent addition to the line-up sometime towards the end of 2024.

The band is particularly noted for its live performances, and its sound has been described as a fusion of the passion and frenzy of bands such as BLACK MIDI, MARUJA, and OPUS KINK, with the abrasive, no-nonsense style of THE VELVET UNDERGROUND. Their main influences are stated as SWANS and GODSPEED YOU! BLACK EMPEROR, and their innovative, avant-garde approach and passionate live performances have propelled them from the local scene in Norfolk to some of London's most well-respected indie venues, such as the Windmill at Brixton and and The Shacklewell Arms in Hackney, East London, as well as earning them support from the likes of BBC 6 Music, Radio X, and Soho Radio.

The band's debut EP, 'Omaha', was released via Shake! Shake! Records on Friday 30 May 2025, preceded by four earlier singles; 'Television' (June 2024), 'Feed Me' (July 2024), 'Five Hundred' (November 2024) and 'Under The Gaze' (March 2025).

SUM (Prog Folk)

Sum (the Greenlandic word for 'where?') was founded by vocalist/guitarist Per Berthelsen, who was born in Qeqertarsuaq, Western Greenland in 1950, and another vocalist/guitarist named Malik Hegh, who was born in South Greenland in 1952, and whom Per met by chance in Sor, Denmark whilst the two of them were studying at Sor Akademi boarding school and gymnasium.

Despite their musical tastes differing considerably, from 1969 to 1971 they worked as a duo, and though Per had always previously written his lyrics in English, Malik was now able to translate them into Greenlandic, and during Sum's existence Per didn't write any further lyrics, instead devoting his full attention to composing and arranging the songs.

The duo sought additional musicians to form a band when they were offered the opportunity to record the first Greenlandic LP, but these other members didn't contribute to the writing of either the music or the lyrics. They all came from various parts of Greenland, but it was only because they were simultaneously studying in Denmark that they crossed paths. All the musicians involved in Sum had previously played in various other bands, but only Per had any previous recording experience prior to forming Sum.

The various shifting musicians that came and went during the band's existence included Hans Fleischer (drums), Erik Hammeken (guitar, bass), Emil Larsen (bass, vocals), Hjalmar Dahl (drums), Sakio Nielsen (organ, grand piano), Karl Sivertsen (acoustic guitar, electric guitar, vocals) and Nikolaj Steenstrup (Mellotron, percussion).

Sum recorded their debut album 'Sumut', which translates to Where to?, at Sweet Silence Studio in Copenhagen in just 64 hours, overseen by Karsten Summer, the musical director and producer of the Danish socialist left-leaning record label, publishing firm and bookshop 'Demos', with whom Malik subsequently formed a Greenlandic music company called Ulo in 1975. In fact all their releases were accomplished within a span of 70 hours - and that includes the mixing. The songs were all performed live in the studio, but the various parts were recorded on separate tracks, which allowed for them to be mixed and mastered retrospectively.

The record was purchased by 20% of the Greenlandic population, being seen as the emergence of Greenlandic political rock, and essentially becoming the starting point of the cultural independence movement in the country. The band had no influence on the choice of cover art, however, which was the image of a 19th-century woodcut depicting an Inuit hunter standing over a Viking he had just slaughtered by tearing him limb from limb, and was intended to symbolize the conflict between the indigenous population and the ruling Danish imperialists.

The basic mission of the band was to actively encourage and promote understanding of their distinct identity, and Greenlandic culture in general, thereby distancing themselves from any perceived association with their Danish rulers. For help with the recording of the album, Sum turned to some Danish musicians with whom Per Berthelsen had previously played while he was studying at a teachers training college in Holbk. During the early years, the band didn't posses any instruments of their own and they had to rely on equipment loaned to them by a music shop and these various other Danish bands.

The band tapped into contemporary American and British rock styles to produce a blend of rock, folk and psychedelia, and remained active until 1977, releasing two additional albums; 1974's 'Inuit Nunaat' and 1977's 'Sume', which was recorded at Sweet Silence Studios in June/July 1976, and was the first album to be released under Greenland's inaugural label, Ulo - the first professional Greenlandic record company, and the initiative of one of the band's lead singers Malik Hegh, assisted by the band's drummer Hjalmar Dahl and Karsten Sommer, the band's producer from their former association with the label Demos. Ulo subsequently dominated the Greenlandic record market for a good many years, but in 2004 the company shut their studio due to mounting debts.

Since 1977, Sum have periodically reunited for live performances, and they released a fourth album 'Persersume' in 1994. Per Berthelsen's last concert performance with Sum was in 2014 in Katuaq after 44 years with the band. Despite initially breaking up in 1977, Sum's impact has endured, and occasional reunions for live performances over the years have kept their legacy alive. Their resurgence in 1994 with 'Persersume' commemorated Ulo's 100th album release, reignited enthusiasm for the band amongst its fans, and thus helped to confirm its lasting influence.

Per Berthelsen was based in Denmark for somewhere round 12 years before he returned to Greenland to live in Nuuk after finishing off the band's self-titled third LP and completing his teaching degree. He was subsequently engaged in various careers, which included initiating educational programs on Kalaallit Nunaata Radioa (aka KNR, or the Greenlandic Broadcasting Corporation), producing television programs, serving as administrative secretary at the Inuit Cultural Cooperation, working as a communication and marketing manager for a bank, and serving as a city councillor for 24 years, including 12 years as the 1st Vice-Mayor of Nuuk. He also served as the Minister of Finance and Foreign Affairs, holding a seat in the Inatsisartut (Parliamentof Greenland) for 20 years.

As well as Sum, Per Berthelsen had another highly popular Greenlandic rock band called QAAQ (also known as Qaq) and in 1980 he set up his own record company and studio in Nuuk called Qilaat Music Aps (and Qilaat-Studio), which released music by QAAQ. He played his last concert with QAAQ in 2013, which was recorded and subsequently released as a DVD. The concert featured his two daughters, his younger brother, and a number of well-known Greenlandic musicians - as well as an American pianist who had previously worked with Tom Jones during one of his early tours of the USA.

In the years that followed, Qilaat Music Aps released several popular albums - including ones Per had recorded with his younger sister Birthe Olsen, prior to the setting up of Qilaat Music Aps. However, when Birthe died from cancer in 1987 aged just 33, Per temporarily left the music scene altogether and sold Qilaat Music Aps to Eigil Petersen, the lead singer of the popular rock band G-60.

In 2011 Per contracted a serious bacterial infection after pricking himself on a guitar string during preparations for a performance in Denmark, which ultimately developed into meningitis and led to him spending almost a year in hospital. However, he eventually recovered and was able to conclude both his political and musical careers, including the making of a documentary film about Sum. Unfortunately, he subsequently lost his voice, so he no longer sings or plays at all, and he retired in 2015.

In October 2014, the documentary called 'Sum: Mumisitsinerup nipaa' ('Sum: The Sound of a Revolution') was released, directed by Inuk Silis Hegh, and providing an enthralling historical look back into the band's highly acclaimed career, thus confirming their status as undisputed icons of Greenlandic rock.

THE NIHILISTS (Rock Progressivo Italiano)

Formed in 2021 in Modena, Italy, The Nihilists first began with a folk/blues songwriting style that evolved into a mix of psychedelia and progressive rock. Between 2021 and 2022, the band recorded and released Storie di (una) Natura Fragile - Ribalta Live Session, their first fully self-produced album. In 2022, with three other bands, they founded the Modena-based Revol Wave Orchestra with the aim of promoting music through festivals, jam sessions, and other events. This renewed musical atmosphere in the Emilia-Romagna region became an inspiration for the band's sound involving influences from 1970s rock to modern metal, ambient soundscapes to early electronic music, resulting in an RPI sound serving as a bridge between the ancient and modern. Over the course of the next several years, the band saw much live activity with performances on stages such as La Tenda, Mattatoyo, Festa della Musica, Giardini Ducali, and many others. In 2025, under the label Karma Conspiracy Records, the group unveiled its first studio album titled Oroboro, an ambitious rock opera with fairy-tale and allegorical traits, the result of over two years of writing.

JAMIE PARKER (Crossover Prog)

Jamie PARKER is a talented multi-instrumentalist/vocalist who hails from Dorset, UK, a county in the south of England which has previously spawned a number of renowned musicians such as Robert FRIPP, Greg LAKE & John WETTON. He was raised in a house where classic and progressive rock was never far out of earshot, and his influences include the 'usual suspects', such as PINK FLOYD, YES, GENESIS and EMERSON, LAKE & PALMER, as well as artists such as GONG, OZRIC TENTACLES and Steven WILSON.

Jamie started playing guitar when he was in his early teens. His father, who was also a musician, taught him his first three chords, but the rest he had to fathom out for himself. He also plays bass, keys and drums, but guitar has always been his main instrument, and these other roles are performed by the guest musicians with whom he collaborated when putting together his debut solo album 'Do You Dream of Luminous Things?'.

Jamie is also the guitarist/vocalist of the locally based funk band VANILLA RADIO, which formed in 2013 with a core of Jamie PARKER, Jack ANSELL, and Rick VEALL, three musicians who have been collaborating in various different line-ups for over 15 years. As well as being a father of four, a sound engineer and a sought-after session guitarist, he is also a member of quite a diverse selection of other acts besides VANILLA RADIO; the progressive/punk/space rock collective CEE LUNA, the punk rock band NUNS WITH GUNS and the NICK CAPALDI BAND to name just a few.

As an appetiser for the new album, a single 'How I Caught the Moon' was released on 21st February 2025, featuring some notable string arrangements by Lucy HACKETT. All tracks on the album were written, arranged and produced by Jamie except track 6 'A Grief That Does Not Speak', which was written by Jamie and Jack ANSELL, and he describes it as "a concept album of sorts which explores themes of environmental collapse, AI consciousness, and existential grief - all wrapped in a blend of space rock, modern prog, and a bit of punk energy".

There are several class musicians brought in as collaborators on this debut album. Jamie plays guitar on all six tracks and also sings, assisted by Molly WATERS. Rick VEALL plays drums, Will SEAR plays organ, piano and synths, and Jack ANSELL looks after the bass department. The story and lyrics were written by James OUSLEY, who is the second guitarist & backing vocalist of one of Jamie's other bands, NUNS WITH GUNS.

Some parts (guitars, bass, keys, sax & flute) were recorded at Jamie's P8 home studio, others (notably drums & vocals) were recorded at Dorset singer/songwriter Nick CAPALDI's Echotown Studios in Dorchester, where the finished album was mixed and mastered by head sound engineer Gareth Matthews. The album took approximately two years to complete, and was released on Jamie's own record label Phantom 8 Records on July 4th 2025. Live performances - including visual effects - are currently being planned, and a follow-up album is already in preparation.

Jamie's music can be purchased in all formats via Bandcamp.

SGUIN (Prog Folk)

Just a clarification first, when the Sguin twins created their project, there was no "Les", just their name alone. The "Les" appeared in the late 90s when a compilation album was released.

Once their previous band disbanded early 71, the twins Richard and Marie-Claire pursued their mainly acoustic folk rock and sang together or separately, Richard playing guitars and Marie-Claire the piano and contributing to the different albums' artworks.

Their first release is the self-titled album (single-sleeved but with an inner sleeve courtesy of Marie-Claire) released in early 73 and features a wide array of style, from Acadian folk with Native and gypsy overtones to acid-rock and on later albums even foraying into classical music. Clearly the 8-minutes poignant "Gnocide" is the highlight of their debut album, which announced better things for future albums.

Their next three albums, En Attendant (whose artwork reminisces a bit their Quenouilles album in 71), Rcolte des Rves, Festin D'Amour will gradually become more ambitious and progressive. With the help of returning collaborators like Gilles Valiquette and bassist/composer Richard Grgoire and drummer Lagac, thus forming an open-group. Their music gradually started winning mire fans across La Belle Province, but still not getting any help oft the local medias.

At the height of their (modest) success & fame in 77, the twins decided to go their own ways with solo careers, though they would collaborate on each other's albums. Richard had a very solid start with his collaboration with Harmonium's Serge Fiori called 200 Nuits L'Heure, which is often seen as L'Heptade's follow-up. Both started with two interesting albums (each) with some prestigious help, but the music is mostly out of focus for these archives. By the mid-80s their respective music had grown totally mainstream and sold well (locally). Both twins are still musically active into the 20s, I believe.

LA NOUVELLE FRONTIRE (Prog Folk)

A hippie-folk group that was founded by the Montreal-born twins Richar and Marie-Claire Sguin. Joined by bassist Andr Brault, drummer Denis Chenier, Guitarist Robert Letendre and keyboardist Normand Throux Throux, they released under the name La Noyuvelle Frontire (The new frontier) two albums, the first of which was self-titled and offered straight folk-rock with psych overtones lasting less than 30 minutes. The album featured a cover of (also Montrealer) Leonard Cohen's "So Long Marianne". Later the same year, they would release the much-more adventurous L'Hymne Aux Quenouilles that was armed with a splendid gatefold artwork, to fit a psych folk prog with a stunning closing title-track well over 7 minutes.

Though the band toured for some high-profiled artistes, they were shunned by the local medias and dismissed as hippies. It must be noted that most Montreal labels & industry snubbed them, the same way that they snubbed Harmonium - the latter having to find a Toronto label to release their albums.

The band separated in 71, the Sguin twins going their way to pursue their acoustic folk endeavours, while KB-man Throux went on to forn the better-known Le Match band (see their PA entry), which was more in line with his electric rock aspirations. The twins would resurface with their own group called Sguin (see the entry page) - with no "Les" before-hand. But in the meantime, Richard contributed to a children-aimed album with other artistes called Blanche Ville. The duo would go on to release four albums under their family name of hippie but ambitious progressive folk, before going each their way for a solo career. Of course Richard is relatively famous for his collaboration with Serge Fiori (Harmonium) for the 200 Nuits L'Heure album with plenty of Harmonium members.

Agropelter is a progressive rock project from Norway. It is the creative outlet of Kay OLSEN, a new contender on the blossoming norwegian prog scene. The music lends as much inspiration from the classic prog groups like GENESIS, CAMEL, KING CRIMSON and ELOY as it does from classic composers Rachmaninoff, Beethoven, Bach along with VANGELIS and TERJE RYPDAL.
On the debut album you can expect lots of Mellotron, Hammond organs, cembalo, ARP and Moog synthesizers and bass pedals. Kay Olsen have played all guitars, bass, Hammond and church organ, and keyboard leads.

Also contributing is s Jonas REINGOLD on fretless bass, Mattias OLSSON on percussion, vintage synth overdubs and atmosphere, Andreas SJOEN on drums along with lots of classical musicians on various strings and woodwinds.

PHANTOM SPELL is the solo project of SEVEN SISTERS singer and guitarist Kyle MCNEILL. He had this project in mind during the pandemic. He recorded and played everything himself in his home studio in Manchester, UK. But he moved to Spain in 2021, where he put together his live band, and they played their first gig at Keep It True Rising III at Posthalle, Wrzburg, Germany, on 7th October 2023, where they were still billed as a UK band. He released his second full-length album, "Heather & Hearth", in July 2025.

The music draws influences from the old hard rock scene, the early heavy metal period, and the classic 70s prog rock. We can hear some influences from KANSAS, WISHBONE ASH, and IRON MAIDEN.

GORGING SHADE (Tech/Extreme Prog Metal)

Gorging Shade are an American progressive death metal quartet and the continuation of instrumental project Canvas Solaris. Formed in Atlanta, Georgia, its impetus began in late 2015 when Canvas Solaris bassist Gael Pirlot wrote material for a potential sister band, more blackened and less eclectic than his flagship unit. Their name alludes to the Charles Baudelaire poem "Un Voyage Cythre." The embryonic version of Gorging Shade consisted of Pirlot and his Canvas Solaris partner Hunter Ginn (drummer for Sculptured and Agalloch since 2022 and 2023 respectively) along with a lead vocalist-cum-keyboardist, but creative misunderstandings led to the band falling back to earth. Over a year later, Pirlot reached out to Ginn to reboot the project from scratch, and the two ultimately recruited their fellow Canvas Solaris bandmates Chris Rushing (guitars) and Nathan Sapp (guitars/vocals).

Gorging Shade play a blackened and technical death metal skirting between melody and dissonance, occasionally dipping into dark ambience which points to Ginn and Pirlot's ritual post-industrial project Plague Psalm. Pirlot and Ginn share lyrical duties, split between the former's occult inclinations and the latter's oblique allusions to his journey to sobriety. The recording and production journey which began in 2021 finally came to a close in late 2024 with the independent release of debut LP, Inversions, which earned Gorging Shade critical comparison to Gorguts, Krallice, Anata, Aseitas and even Bohren & der Club of Gore.

In an early 2025 interview, Ginn stated that Canvas Solaris were more-or-less put to rest, with the band deciding to continue in their new direction as Gorging Shade.

HENGET (Tech/Extreme Prog Metal)

Henget are a Finnish progressive black metal band from Tampere, formed in 2021 by guitarist Jesse J. Heikkinen (of The Abbey and Iterum Nata) and vocalist Santtu Kainulainen (aka King Aleijster de Satan; of Saturnian Mist). The group later expanded to a quintet with the addition of drummer Ville Rissanen (also of Saturnian Mist), Heikkinen's childhood friend and keyboardist Lasse Launimaa (of Slow Fall and Thyrane) and session bassist Plmi R. Jhannsson (of Vonlaus). Henget began when Kainulainen invited Heikkinen to work together in Saturnian Mist, but pivoted to a more personal collaborative project after the latter moved to a different city. Kainulainen desired to renew and refine his creativity and channel his occult interests in an experimental style of black metal without genre constraints.

Originally called Henkivallat ("Spiritual Realms"), the band settled on Heikkinen's suggestion Henget due to its ambiguous etymology (meaning both "Life" and "Spirits"). Coming off as a tripped-out symphonic metal ensemble with psychedelic rock and jazz-fusion ambitions, Henget's off-the-wall approach is informed by Ddheimsgard, King Crimson and especially Arcturus and Behemoth. Kainulainen and Heikkinen improvised the Finnish/English lyrics and music via trance-inducing "shamanistic methods" (and the help of psilocybin for King Satan). Signing to Season of Mist in late 2022, Henget released their debut full-length, Beyond North Star, the following year (with Jhannsson leaving the project in the LP's wake). Inspired by Finnish and Scandinavian folklore, the band described the LP as "a loose concept album depicting a spiritual and astral journey to the depths of one's consciousness and beyond."
