iBooks Author (iBA) is an e-book authoring application by Apple Inc.. Documents created with iBooks Author may be exported as PDF files or be published to the Apple iBooks Bookstore.

Apple released iBooks Author on January 19, 2012 at an education-focused special event in New York City. Simultaneously, Apple also released iBooks 2 and a new iBooks Bookstore category for textbooks. The software is proprietary and available only for Mac OS X. Apple offers it for free download in the Mac App Store.

Apple describes iBooks Author as a tool for "educators and smaller publishers to create their own books". Documents created by iBooks Author may only be sold for a fee if they are accepted by and distributed by Apple, but authors also have the option to distribute their work anywhere if the work is being distributed for free.

Many aspects of a document may be edited in WYSIWYG fashion, including text, fonts, colors, foreground and background images, interactive widgets, and charts. Tables of contents and glossaries may be managed with some automation. The user interface and editing features have been described as nearly identical to Apple's Keynote and Pages products.

The output of iBooks Author is a proprietary Apple file format similar to the EPUB standard, but with extensions that prevent it from being universally readable or editable as an EPUB document. The format uses undocumented, proprietary XML namespaces and undocumented extensions to CSS.

iCloud (아이클라우드, 과거 iTools, .Mac, 모바일미) 는 애플에서 제공하는 클라우드 컴퓨팅 서비스이다. 2011년 6월 6일 애플 세계 개발자 회의 (WWDC)에서 처음 공개하여 2011년 10월 12일 정식 서비스를 시작했다. 구매한 응용 프로그램이나 음악 파일등을 아이폰, 아이팟, 아이패드나, 맥 OS X, 마이크로소프트 윈도 운영체제의 컴퓨터 등의 다수의 장비에 다운로드 하며 공유할 수 있다. 이는 또한 기존의 모바일미 서비스를 대체하며 이메일, 연락처, 캘린더, 북마크, 노트, 미리 알림등의 데이터를 동기화한다. 모바일미의 기존 서비스중 iWeb, 모바일미 갤러리, iDisk를 제외한 기능이 아이클라우드에서도 계속 서비스된다.

역사
아이클라우드는 애플의 최근의 클라우드 서비스 브랜드명이다. 이 서비스는 과거 2000년에 iTools, 2002년에 .Mac, 2008년에 모바일 미라는 브랜드명으로 서비스 된 적이 있다. 애플 지원 페이지에 의하면, 모바일미 서비스는 기존 유료고객의 연장된 만료 기한인 2012년 6월 30일 이후 중단될 예정이라고 밝혔다. 2011년 10월 12일, iOS 5의 공개와 함께 개발자 테스트를 끝내고 정식 서비스를 시작하였다.

용량
아이클라우드는 기본적으로 5GB의 저장공간을 제공하며, 응용프로그램, 책, 사진 스트림 등은 저장용량의 카운트에서 제외한다. 10GB, 20GB, 50GB 로 용량을 업그레이드 할 수 있으며 각각 1년에 $20, $40, $100 을 지불하여야 한다.

기능
이 클라우드 컴퓨팅 기반 서비스는 사용자의 음악, 사진, 응용 프로그램, 문서, 책, 연락처는 물론 애플의 이메일 서버와 캘린더를 서버에 저장할 수 있도록 한다. 각 계정은 5GB의 저장 용량을 부여받으며 다운로드한 음악, 응용 프로그램, 책, 사진 스트림 서비스는 저장 용량의 카운트에서 제외한다. 구매한 모든 응용 프로그램 들은 자동으로 사용자의 다른 기기에 다운로드한다. 만약 사용자가 새로운 기기를 등록할 경우, 모든 사용자의 컨텐츠는 새로운 장비로 자동으로 다운로드 된다.

사진 스트림
아이폰 등의 iOS장비에서 사진을 찍으면 Wi-Fi네트워크나 이더넷으로 사용자의 다른 iOS장비나 맥 OS X의 iPhoto나 마이크로소프트 윈도의 포토 갤러리로 사진의 사본을 보내어 실시간으로 사진을 동기화한다. 단 동기화되는 사진은 최근 1,000 장으로 제한된다.

클라우드 문서
하나 이상의 기기에 똑같은 앱이 있다면, 아이클라우드가 사용하는 모든 기기에 문서를 최신 상태로 자동으로 업데이트하며 애플의 iWork 응용프로그램은 물론 서드파티 응용 프로그램과도 호환된다.

백업
구입한 음악이나 앱, 다운로드한 책, 카메라 롤의 사진과 동영상, 기기 환경설정, 앱의 데이터, 홈스크린과 아이콘 배열, 문자메시지 등을 클라우드 서버에 백업하며 사용하는 기기를 Wi-Fi에 연결하면 무선으로 복원할 수 있다.

연락처, 캘린더, 메일
아이클라우드 서비스의 설정을 완료하면 "@me.com"주소의 이메일 계정을 새롭게 부여받을 수 있으며 캘린더와 연락처의 변동 사항도 Wi-Fi 네트워크에 연결시 자동으로 업데이트한다.

GarageBand is a software application for Mac OS X and iOS that allows users to create music or podcasts. It is developed by Apple Inc. as a part of the iLife software package on Mac OS X.

Features of GarageBand

Audio recording

GarageBand is a streamlined digital audio workstation (DAW) and music sequencer, which can record and play back multiple tracks of audio. Built-in audio filters allow the user to enhance the audio track for recording guitar instruments. The tuning system can also effectively imitate the auto-tune effect when tuned to the maximum.

Virtual software instruments

GarageBand can play realistic, sampled instruments, used for creating songs or playing music live using over 100 sampled or synthesized instruments, which can be played using a USB or MIDI keyboard connected to the computer, or using an on-screen virtual keyboard. Additional instruments are available in the five GarageBand Jam Packs, which are separate expansion packs offered by Apple. Some of the virtual instruments include: piano, various drum kits, guitar, bass guitar, and a wide variety of synthesizers. The synthesizers are broken into 2 groups; (virtual) analog and digital. Each synthesizer has a wide variety of editing options. These often include richness, glide, cut off, standard attack, decay sustain and release.

MIDI editing

GarageBand can import MIDI files, and offers piano roll or notation-style editing and playback. Whilst offering comprehensive control over MIDI files, GarageBand does not include several key features, such as a sequencer for drum tracks. However, many of these shortcomings have been addressed with each successive release of GarageBand.

Music lessons

A new feature of GarageBand '09 is the ability to download pre-recorded music lessons from GarageBand's Lesson Store for guitar and piano. There are two types of lesson available in the Lesson Store: Basic Lessons which are a free download and Artist Lessons which must be purchased. The first Basic Lessons for both guitar and piano are included with GarageBand.

In both types of lesson a music teacher presents the lesson which is in a special format offering high quality video and audio instructions. The lessons include a virtual guitar or piano which demonstrates finger position and a musical notational area to show the correct musical notations. The music examples used in these lessons features popular music.

In an Artist Lesson the music teacher is the actual famous musician and songwriter who composed the song being taught in the lesson. As of November 2009 the artists featured are: Sting (Roxanne, Message in a Bottle, Fragile), Sarah McLachlan (Angel), Patrick Stump of Fall Out Boy (I Don't Care, Sugar, We're Goin' Down), Norah Jones (Thinking About You), Colbie Caillat (Bubbly), Sara Bareilles (Love Song), John Fogerty (Proud Mary, Fortunate Son, Centerfield), Ryan Tedder of OneRepublic (Apologize), Ben Folds (Brick, Zak and Sara), John Legend (Ordinary People), and Alex Lifeson of Rush (Tom Sawyer, Limelight, Working Man, The Spirit of Radio). No new Artist Lessons have been released in 2010, and Apple has not announced plans to release any more.

Availability

Prior to the launch of Apple's Mac App Store, GarageBand was only available as a part of iLife, a suite of applications (also including iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD, and iWeb) intended to simplify the creation and organization of digital content. GarageBand is now available for separate purchase as a download through the App Store.

Both Apple and third-party vendors offer extra loops for use in Garageband. Users can also record their own loops through a microphone, via a software instrument or by using an audio interface to physically connect a guitar or other hardware instrument to a Mac or iOS-based device.

History

GarageBand was developed by Apple under the direction of Dr. Gerhard Lengeling, formerly of the German company Emagic, makers of Logic Audio. (Emagic was acquired by Apple in July 2002.)

The application was announced during Steve Jobs’s keynote speech at the Macworld Conference & Expo in San Francisco on 6 January 2004; musician John Mayer assisted with its demonstration.

GarageBand 2 was announced at the (2005) Macworld Conference & Expo on January 11, 2005. It shipped, as announced, around 22 January 2005. Major new features included the abilities to view and edit music in musical notation, to record up to 8 tracks at once, to fix timing and pitch of recordings, to automate track pan position, master volume, and master pitch, to transpose both audio and MIDI, and to import MIDI files. GarageBand 3, announced at 2006’s Macworld Conference & Expo, includes a 'podcast studio', including the ability to use more than 200 effects and jingles, and integration with iChat for remote interviews. System requirements.

GarageBand 4, aka GarageBand '08, is part of iLife '08. It incorporates the ability to record separately sections of a song such as bridges, and chorus lines, support for automation of tempos and instruments, create and export iPhone ringtones, and a "Magic GarageBand" feature which includes a virtual jam session with a complete 3D view of the instruments. GarageBand 5 is part of the iLife '09 package. It includes music instruction. It allows the user to buy instructional videos by contemporary artists. It also contains new features for electric guitar players, including a dedicated 3D Electric Guitar Track containing a virtual stompbox pedalboard, and virtual amplifiers with spring reverb and tremolo. GarageBand 5 also includes a cleaner and redesigned user interface, as well as Project Templates. System requirements.

GarageBand 6, also known as GarageBand '11, is part of the iLife '11 package, which was released on October 20, 2010. This version brings new features, such as Flex Time, a tool to adjust the rhythm of a recording; the ability to match the tempo of one track with another instantly; additional guitar amps and stompboxes; 22 new lessons for guitar and piano; and How Did I Play?, a tool to measure the accuracy and progress of a piano or guitar performance in a lesson. Limitations

A lack of MIDI-out capability limits the use of external MIDI instruments. There is also only limited support for messages sent from knobs on MIDI keyboards, only real-time pitch bend, modulation, sustain, and foot control are recognized. However, since version '08, other parameters affected by MIDI knobs can be automated later per track. GarageBand has no functions for creating multiple time signatures, though the software does now allow a tempo track to automate tempo changes. The ability to reverse tracks is also not available.

Other than pitch bend, GarageBand is limited to the pitches and intervals of standard 12-tone equal temperament, so it does not natively support xenharmonic music. Logic Pro supports different tunings, but not GarageBand; however, audio units which support microtuning (using .scl or .tun files, or some other method) can be used in GarageBand to produce alternative pitches.

Jam Packs

Jam Pack is the brand name for Apple’s official add-ons for GarageBand. Each Jam Pack contains loops and software instruments grouped into certain genres and styles.

The current Jam Packs are as follows:

There was also another GarageBand Jam Pack, initially known just as GarageBand Jam Pack, later GarageBand Jam Pack 1, which was discontinued in January 2006. Beginning with the release of GarageBand Jam Pack: Remix Tools and GarageBand Jam Pack: Rhythm Section, ending with the release of GarageBand Jam Pack: World Music in January 2006, each Jam Pack was designated with a number. The release of GarageBand Jam Pack: World Music also saw a redesign in packaging.

Third-party instrument and AppleLoop packages

In addition to Apple, many other companies today offer commercial or shareware virtual software instruments designed specially for GarageBand, and collections of AppleLoops intended for GarageBand users.

GarageBand can also use any third-party software synthesizer that adheres to the Core Audio (Audio Units) standard. However, there are limitations. Audio Unit instruments which can respond on multiple MIDI channels or ports can be triggered only on the first channel of the first port. This means that multi-timbral instruments which contain multiple channels and respond to many MIDI channels, such as Native Instruments Kontakt and MOTU MachFive, are not ideally suited for use in GarageBand.

Sample multitrack source files

In 2005, Trent Reznor from the band Nine Inch Nails released the source multitrack GarageBand files for the song "The Hand That Feeds" to allow the public to experiment with his music, and solicited prospective GarageBand users to remix the song. He also gave permission for anyone to share their personalized remix with the world. Since then, Nine Inch Nails has released several more GarageBand source files, and several other artists have also released their GarageBand files for the public to experiment with. New Zealand band Evermore also released the source multi track files for Garageband for their song "Never Let You Go" on the respective single.

Ben Folds released Stems & Seeds, special version of his 2008 album, Way to Normal. Stems and Seeds contained a remastered version of Way to Normal, and a separate disc containing GarageBand files for each track from the album to allow fans to remix the songs.

GarageBand for iOS

On March 2, 2011 Apple announced GarageBand for the iPad.^[2] It has many features similar to the Mac OS X version. Music can be created using the on-screen instruments, which include guitar, piano, drum kit, Smart Piano, Smart Guitar, Smart Drums, and Smart Bass. It also acts as a multitrack recording studio with Stompbox effects and guitar amps. Songs can be emailed or sent to an iTunes Library. It is compatible with both versions of the iPad.^[3] On November 1, 2011 Apple updated GarageBand to 1.1, adding support for the iPhone and iPod touch among other features, including the ability to create custom chords for Smart Instruments, support for 3/4 and 6/8 time signatures, and exporting in AAC or AIFF format.^[4]

Aperture is a photo editing and management software program that was developed by Apple for the Mac OS X operating system, first released in 2005 for $499 (all prices are in USD), dropped to $199, and now released on their App Store for $79. The software handles a number of tasks common in post-production work such as importing and organizing image files, applying corrective adjustments, displaying slideshows, and printing photographs.

Features of Aperture include non-destructive editing, organization of photographs by keyword, faces (using face detection and recognition), and places (using GPS metadata embedded in image files), brushes for applying effects (such as dodge and burn, skin smoothing, and polarization), and exporting to several popular websites, including Flickr, Facebook, SmugMug, and Apple's MobileMe service.

Aperture 3, the latest version of the software, was released on February 9, 2010 and runs on Intel-based Mac computers. On January 6, 2011, Apple announced its availability on the new Mac App Store.

Aperture 2.0

Aperture 2.0 was released on February 12, 2008 with a reduced US price of $199.This can be compared with the $499 price tag of version 1.0.

Aperture 3.0

Aperture 3.0 was released on February 9, 2010, and is the first version of Aperture to require an Intel based Macintosh computer (previous versions could use PowerPC based systems). Apple claims more than 200 new features are included in version 3.0 and cites the main enhancements as follows:

64 bit application, able to handle huge files such as very high definition scans.
Face detection and recognition tool, called Faces.
Place pictures on maps using Places. It is compatible with GPS metadata and manually editable through an interactive map.

3.0	February 9, 2010	Aperture now requires an Intel based Macintosh. Version 3.0 includes 200+ new features including: faces, places, brushes, adjustment presets, full-screen browser, audio and video support, and advanced slideshows.
3.0.1	February 24, 2010	Aperture 3.0.1 update improves overall stability and addresses a number of issues in Aperture 3, including: upgrading libraries from earlier versions of Aperture, importing libraries from iPhoto, importing photos directly from a camera, memory usage when processing heavily-retouched photos, face recognition processing, adding undetected faces using the Add Missing Face button, printing pages containing multiple images, editing photos using an external editor, display of images with Definition and Straighten adjustments applied, zooming photos in the Viewer and in the Loupe using keyboard shortcuts, accessing Aperture libraries on a network volume Selecting and moving pins on the Places map, adding and editing custom locations using the Manage My Places window and witching between masters when working with RAW+JPEG pairs.
3.0.2	March 25, 2010	Aperture 3.0.2 update improves overall stability and fixes issues in a number of areas. The key areas addressed include: upgrading Aperture 1.x and 2.x libraries, importing libraries from iPhoto or from earlier versions of Aperture, importing hierarchical folders of photos into a library, adding names and confirming matches in Faces, reordering snapshots on the Faces corkboard, creating and saving print presets, duplicating metadata presets, adjustments using Curves, Straighten and Retouching, navigation of photos in the Viewer using scrolling, importing ratings, color labels and GPS data from XMP sidecar files, IPTC metadata compatibility, deleting photos when emptying the Aperture Trash and exporting versions and libraries.
3.0.3	April 29, 2010	Aperture 3.0.3 update improves overall stability and fixes issues in a number of areas. The key areas addressed include: applying adjustments such as Retouch or Chromatic Aberration, creating and using Raw Fine Tuning presets, viewing, adding and removing detected faces, switching target printers and paper sizes when printing, duplicating Smart Albums, repairing and rebuilding Aperture libraries, reconnecting referenced files, working with GPS track files in Places and searching for keywords in the Query HUD or Keyword Controls.
3.1	October 20, 2010	Aperture 3.1 update greatly improves the overall stability and performance while fixing many major issues, most especially in Libraries and Adjustments, while making the application compatible with iLife '11. The key areas addressed include: displaying a progress bar when opening, switching and exporting libraries and masters, improvement in performance when opening large libraries, corrections on rendered previews and thumbnails used in Faces or while in zoom mode, importing and relinking referenced iPhoto libraries from a Mac, iPhone or iPad, improvements in face detection (especially on RAW+JPEG files) and addressing "blank" faces, corrections in search query performance, export of GPS metadata and correction of TIFF dpi setting, and performance improvements of many default adjustments (especially the Red-eye, Straighten, Crop and Presets adjustments).
3.1.1	December 9, 2010	Aperture 3.1.1 update improves overall stability and performance issues, and also includes specific fixes that: Address compatibility with the iLife Media Browser, improve reliability when upgrading existing Aperture libraries, address issues with publishing photos to MobileMe, Facebook and Flickr.
3.1.1	January 6, 2011	Aperture 3.1.1 was re-released in the Mac App Store, with a price drop to $79.99.
3.1.2	March 23, 2011	Aperture 3.1.2 update improves overall stability and performance, including specific fixes in the following areas: Importing iPhoto libraries, Reliability and responsiveness when using brushes to apply adjustments, Reconnecting referenced master images.
3.1.3	July 13, 2011	Aperture 3.1.3 update improves overall stability and performance, including specific fixes in the following areas: library rebuilding, file import issues, multitouch gestures, Faces and Places views, adjustments, web sharing, A/V, RAW–JPEG pairs.
3.2	October 12, 2011	Aperture 3.2 adds support for iCloud and iOS 5, and addresses stability, performance and compatibility issues.

좀 늦은 소식이지만 애플도 구글과 마이크로소프트처럼 PC, 노트북, 스마트폰, 타블렛 PC등등에서 모두 사용이 가능하고 호환성이 가능한 통합 운영체제로 정책을 바뀌었네요. 이렇게 되면 애플 모든 제품에서 동일한 서비스를 모두 사용할 수 있겠네요. 그러면서 애플은 이번에 새로운 매킨토시 운영체제(Mac OS X) 마운틴 라이언(Mountain Lion)를 공식 발표하면서 기존의 운영체제 명칭에서 맥(Mac)을 빼버리고 OSX로 변경도 했어요.

구글은 안드로이드로 통합을 마이크로소프트는 윈도우 8로 통합을 하는 것처럼요.

이렇게 되면 앞으로 전세계 운영체제 시장은 크로스 플랫폼(Cross Platform = 통합 운영체제) 세상이 되겠네요.

또, 크로스 플랫폼에 많이 쓰이는 프로그래밍 언어(마크업언어 정의언어 포함)와 소프트웨어 개발 프로그램도 큰 주목을 받겠네요.
