The bank’s toxic assets would be sold off, Lee told the Post last December, and a legal battle between shareholders is reportedly being battled out in Phnom Penh courts.

Despite the reports of fraud and the dismantling of the bank, Tek Reth Samrach insisted plans for the airport would continue.

“Of course, I heard that they had some financial difficulties to deal with, but that’s an internal problem. This is not an issue for the NSRIA project, as we have the liberty of finding another partner if the current arrangement falls through,” Tek Reth Samrach said.

“However, at this point in time, they have not informed us of any issues, and we’re carrying on with the project as it is.”
Projects Cambodia is 2 months old now. We are growing rapidly and become a community of real estate, architects, builders.... on Facebook. However, we are not satisfied enough we want to grow more than a blog. We are seeking for contribution from all of you. You can help us writing content on real estate, architectural design, engineering..... We are happy to work with you.

Today, we have launched a small survey and we will have more in the future. We want to know what field our readers and fans are in. Please you kindly help answer the question on the Facebook by following this link https://www.facebook.com/questions/186509851451645/.
It may be possible to travel to space in an elevator as early as 2050, a major construction company has announced.

Obayashi Corp., headquartered in Tokyo, on Monday unveiled a project to build a gigantic elevator that would transport passengers to a station 36,000 kilometers above the Earth.

For the envisaged project, the company would utilize carbon nanotubes, which are 20 times stronger than steel, to produce cables for the space elevator.

The idea of space elevators has been described in several science-fiction novels. Obayashi, however, believes it is possible to construct one in the real world thanks to carbon nanotubes, which were invented in the 1990s, the company said.

Some other organizations have also been studying the development of space elevators, such as the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration.

In Obayashi's project, a cable would be stretched up to 96,000 kilometers, or about one-fourth of the distance between the Earth and the moon. One end of the cable would be anchored at a spaceport on the ground, while the other would be fitted with a counterweight.

The terminal station would house laboratories and living space. The car could carry up to 30 people to the station at 200 kilometers per hour, which would mean a 7-1/2 day trip to reach the station. Magnetic linear motors are one possible means of propulsion for the car, according to Obayashi.

Solar power generation facilities would also be set up around the terminal station to transmit power to the ground, the company added.

Whether carbon nanotubes can be mass-produced economically enough and whether various organizations from around the world can work together are two key issues facing the development of the space elevator, according to the company.

"At this moment, we cannot estimate the cost for the project," an Obayashi official said. "However, we'll try to make steady progress so that it won't end just up as simply a dream."
Experts said political stability and open economic policy were the two main factors behind the rise.

Moreover, good economic performance in the region also contributed to the growth.

“We have a very high level of political stability. That is the main thing that investors want. We also see that we made some improvement in laws and regulations and some tax incentives in import-export made by the government. Those are impressive points,” said Chheng Kimlong, economic and business lecturer at the University of Cambodia.

The downturn in European countries, as well as the United States, pushed many foreign investor toward Asia, and Cambodia, Chheng Kimlong said “I noticed the flow of foreign direct investment go into the South Asia and East Asia region because of the fast speed of growth here”.

Stephen Higgins, CEO of ANZ Royal Bank, wrote in an email that positive growth in the economic outlook led naturally to a higher levels of investment.

“We are seeing a significant expansion in the manufacturing industry, which is a real positive for Cambodia,” he said.

The approved investment in the service sector declined by around 38 per cent from $1.059 billion to $658 million in 2011, according to the CDC data.

Higgins said it was not a sector requiring an intensive level capital investment.

According to the data, investment from the United Kingdom stood at number one worth $2 billion on nitrogen-based chemicals, followed by local investment worth $$1.93 billion.

China came in third at $1.191 billion and Vietnam reached $631 million.

Chheng Kimlong said that attention must still be paid to the anti-corruption law.

“Although we established a lot of rules, regulations or anti-corruption laws, the coordination from one government institution another, as well as information sharing, is still limited. Investors still don’t trust us that much,” he said.

“Corruption is still an issue for investors, but I am encouraged by steps the government is taking to deal with it,” Higgins added

PHNOM PENH—Cambodia’s low-rise capital city is reaching for the sky—again.

Long known as one of the last major Asian cities without a skyline, Phnom Penh embarked on a high-rise building boom in the middle of the last decade, only to see it derailed by the global financial crisis of 2008 and 2009. Although a few tall buildings were completed, including a 32-story bank tower, other ambitious projects—like an 1,820-foot skyscraper that would have been the tallest in Asia at the time and among the tallest buildings in the world, behind Dubai’s 2,717-foot Burj Khalifa—never got off the ground.
This is another new project of A7corp in Phnom Penh. We don't have information about this projects but only some renderings and maps. According to the pictures below, it is seemingly residential project like Borei Peng Hourt residential complex which is also designed by A7corp. We'll keep you updated if we get more information. Thanks!

This is not Singapore's Marina Bay Sands but Riviera project in Phnom Penh City, Cambodia. The foundation work of The Riviera have started for a month on Diamond island. The project is developed by OCIC and designed by Thailand's architectural firm A7corp. A7corp has a very close relationship with some powerful Cambodian real estate developers. Riviera is the biggest project started so far on diamond island and appears to be the 2nd permanent structure after Elite town which is nearing completion. We do not have information about this project's function but according to its location, design, and renderings, we can assume that The Riviera would be function as retails, hotel, and apartment... We also don't have information about the cost of this project but it must be much less than Marina since the 3 towers supporting the sky garden are shorter and not as complex as Marina Bay Sands.

The residential development rising into existence on the far side of the Tonle Sap and adjacent to the Japanese Bridge is called Bellevue Apartments, 17 stories tall including the penthouse, with 147 units of one, two and three bedroom units scheduled for completion between April and June next year.

According to architect and Deputy Team Leader Sim Sitho, the project is being developed jointly between Ohnha Ieng Sothera and Japanese investors. The development team is called Harakawa.

An interesting feature of the project is the commitment to green vines covering much of the building with built-in irrigation systems.

Sim says the idea of the plant life up the sides of the building is to provide a natural feeling of greenery both for the guests and residents around Phnom Penh.

“We will have the flower pots every six on 10 metres and we will have vines growing up every floor. The benefit of the vines is that they are very aesthetic and they relate the building to the environment.

Some of the buildings around are only two stories, so the green will make it better for the environment and for our neighbours.”

“The owners of the building will take care of the plants,” Sim said.

The first floor of Bellevue Apartments will have tennis courts, a gym, a kid’s playroom, a function room and a swimming pool.

“From the second floor up to 16th floor are mostly apartments,” Sim said.

“On the 11th floor of tower A we have a roof garden with barbecue corner and tenants can share the all the green space. The penthouse in Tower B in the rear goes up 17 floors and has a garden and library.

"The whole building has about 35,000 square metres of usable space, including parking and the roof garden, Sim says.

“We're targeting serviced apartments for expats and we want to combine the apartments with greenery.

"For the Mezzanine level, we are trying to make it VIP or luxury. The price is not really fixed yet.

“The site has good breeze and we have a green concept. The view to the west is the river and sunset view. We try to get all the apartments with the same excellent view,” she said.

One of the interior designers on the project is Bronwyn Blue of Beyond Interiors.

“We are trying to make calm, soft interiors and are working on a mock-up room. We are trying to make it as simple as possible,” Sim said.

“For the building accessories, we are trying to put in high standards. Our air-conditioners are the Japanese Daiken brand which are very high quality. Our elevators are Schindler brand.

In addition to her work on Bellevue Apartments, Sim also volunteers her time for an organisation called Space for Architecture.

“We give tours to go around and see the old buildings, and we collect the money from that and we use the money to pay for the website and the flyers. We pay for the lectures and we do some documentation for the old buildings.”

“I’m the researcher and the guide for the team,” Sim said. “We are a not for profit team. We share our spare time and we hope that we can get more knowledge and spread this knowledge for the next generation.” The group’s website is www.spaceforarchitecture.com.
Public transportation is needed for Phnom Penh as the city population is getting bigger and the city is expanding. Public transportation could help reduce expenses, save fuel, reduce congestion, and reduce carbon footprint. Here, we got 2 letters from the Phnom Penh city hall website. The first one is the letter that the city hall is seeking companies to invest in public bus and the second is the letter of the result of shortlisted companies. This is a good step toward public transportation in Phnom Penh city.

A delegation led by Mr. Kazutoshi FUKUDA, Managing Director of Kyosan Electric Mfg Co., Ltd and Mr. Yasuyoshi MUGIYA, Senior Managing Director of Toshiba Corporation held a discussion with H.E Governor KEP Chuk Tema in the morning of January 18, 2012 to present the modern technological products equipped with traffic signal aiming to reduce congestion in the city, especially to reduce green gas transmitted from vehicles which gradually increased each day.

Mr. Kazutoshi FUKUDA had presented the new technology to establish electric light rail transit (LRT) which maximum could alleviate air pollution in the city and it could be easily recharged its power without using fuel. There was a special system which could create its own energy by battery from solar system. Moreover, Toshiba Corporation had also mentioned that aiming to reduce the traffic congestion; Toshiba had created a new technology with traffic light system, that equipment could automatically manage the stopping time for each intersection and it also could alert the traffic congestion at any intersection automatically if it is required.

H.E Governor had cheerfully appreciated to new and modern technology presented by the Japanese while Phnom Penh had been gradually developed and challenged with some difficulties to be solved. Moreover, the Capital Hall had already worked on a cooperation project for public transport (Tramway) starting from Phnom Penh International Airport to Preah Sakkchak Mony Chetdie which was strongly supported by Government of France, the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed with Systra Company; thus H.E Governor suggested to Japanese companies to apply their investment project proposal for consideration.

We have spent half a day to redesign our blog and add some function such as Facebook like button and comment box. The background and header were also change. The original blogspot navigation bar has been disabled to make this blog look more professional. We also add pages tab and we plan to add more pages in the near future. Finally, we've got a desirable result. We hope that this blog can attract more and more visitors. Please do not forget to subscribe via email or connect with our Facebook page.

When it comes to 21th century, people start to care about the environment as the world natural resources have been decreasing noticeably. Researchers have been working hard to find new alternative resources. While researching works on new alternatives are undertaking, reusing recycling and renewing method is also being used. Treak Village Medical Centre is a good example for this method.

Treak Village Medical Centre is a project of a Cambodian non-profit NGO, HUSK for communities, formed by the owners and senior manger of The Villa Siem Reap and Sojourn. The medical center main wall construction material are plastic bottles in which green waste and wet rubbish are put. The plastic bottle is called Eco Block. According to HUSK website, the idea of Eco block is invented by Pura Vida.

The wall of this medical center is made by bounding the Eco blocks between layers of chicken wires which are attached to the metal frame. They use concrete up to 3 layers of cement mixed with sand to apply to the outside of the bottles. Process of making the wall is easy and the Eco block is green and cost efficient.
How do you think about this idea? Have you considered building your house with these Eco blocks?

In Cambodian society, people know buildings rather than their architects and the word architect is used and known by a small amount of people only. Some use the word "engineer" to call an architect instead. This is caused by public lack of understanding of the profession. Projects Cambodia is committed to raise public awareness of this profession.

Today Projects Cambodia would like to introduce a Cambodian young architect who have been responsible for a state large project. People know well about the Peace building which is bureau of the prime minister but only some people know who design it. Architect. Chea Bunseang was commissioned to design and manage the whole project. He was hired by Ly Chhoung Company as a principle architect and design manger. The Peace building project was completed in 2011 and Chea Bunseang left Ly Chhoung to open his own architectural firm under the name Bunseang architects and associates. He also worked as a studio lecturer in Panhasastra University of Cambodia.

Today, Chinese and Vietnamese people are celebrating their new year day and I found a special project to share with all of you on this new year. The project is designed by K&B corp, a Vietnamese design and construction company. The project is named Cambodia Tower but we do not know which part of Cambodia this projects have been building. According to discussion thread on Skyscrapercity.com, people are very confused about this project. A guy who is a member on that website provide a picture (second picture) that was shot in Vietnam and he claimed that the Cambodia Tower is in the territory of Vietnam. So why they name a tower in Vietnam Cambodia Tower? It is weird and the company website doesn't write anything besides their 3D pictures. anyone who knows about this projects please kindly share with us here! Thank you!
