Or at least we were. Terribly. First Ana, then Mama, then Dada....we all had it. It was a head cold, then became a stomach flu/virus and now it is just annoying nasal drip and headache. But, we are out of bed, in the playroom and getting ready to enter the human world again. It took me out of commission for a good 2 weeks now. Ugh. I hope you do not get it. Anywho, I have great photos from my first Julia Child recipe and am excited about my next! Plus some cute Ana in the snow photos!!

Hello fab readers! Today A and I are home with a cold, but we are not going to let it get us down. We had some of daddy's homemade chicken soup and tea, and A is playing nicely in the playroom. I am getting the baby book out and adding to the list of words that A likes to use. Her new words include:apple, car, train, plane, bus and balloon (which she has been calling ball for a while now). She also says avocado the right way, added the m into Milk, and loves to say Phone and sadly, Ipad...which she is obsessed with on certain days. I am trying not to let her rely on electronics for fun, but to be fair the Ipad and Iphone keep her quiet and occupied in public and have helped her learn words and her A, B. Cs...so I cannot fault it. I started another of my resolutions which is to bake more, and helping me with that is my new Kitchenaid Mixer. The Mixer was a total surprise present from D, and boy is it gorgeous ...I cannot wait to show you how I broke it in. Photos in the next post. In the meantime, we will eat, drink and play ourselves back into good health. Fruit is sticky, ma!

Ana has made a reversal on some of her fave snacks and now likes a lot of the fruit that she initially rejected. I am really happy that she loves avocados, apples, grapes, strawberries, bananas, melon, blueberries and mango.

I want her to try papayas and kiwi soon, but I am not sure she is ready for those more unusual fruit tastes and flavors.

Hello friends and followers:
Just wanted to drop a quick note and let you know that I am in the weekly Woman's World for January 16th on page 20. (a cute photo too) I tested a new diet for them, and it worked so well...I am going to try it again until I reach my 20th high school reunion goal. That is right, it is my 20th high school reunion this year, and I want to look my best. Who doesn't ?? I have been thinking about contacting mags and shows for a makeover in time for it next October, as it is a big one..and I have this stubborn post baby weight that just will not GO AWAY!! What do you think?? I will have to scan it in for those of you whose supermarkets do not carry it...it is fun to flip through when you are in line too!!!

Although I am already 2 days behind..yikes, I promise to stay on top of this resolution as much as I can. Originally, I was going to take a photo in the same place every day for a year, but I think that may get boring..so I will just post a sweet, funny or silly photo everyday.

Hello readers!!
We had a wonderful holiday season with Anastasia, she really had fun traveling and seeing all of the family, trying new foods, and of course, opening and playing with her new presents. As she grows more and more, she amazes me through her creative play, wonderful vocabulary and cute mannerisms. She really is becoming a mini me, and we are having so much fun teaching her everyday. I have some funny and fun videos to share, but first, photos!!!

Just a quick note to say Happy Holidays and Happy New Year from our house to yours. I am currently writing my resolutions and of course one of my top ones is to blog more. I am going to join in on the 366 project, is it 366 or 365? Well, anywho, my plan is to take and post one photo or video a day for a year. Mostly revolving around Ana of course, lol.

In anticipation of this, I have opened a Youtube page for her videos. I have taken so many over the past year and a half and will slowly go through, edit and add to her page the cutest and the funniest of the bunch.

In the meantime, Happy New Year....may 2012 bring you happiness, good health and wealth. :)

Bzzzz Frederic Fekkai

It took me a couple of days after receiving the Frederic Fekkai products to put them to good use and give them the review that they deserve. I color my hair and tend to have big curly mess of a head of red curls. So these products worked great to reign in my curls and clean up my frizz.

I needed to color my hair anyway, so I chose to test the products both before and after and see if there was any difference.

After using it before coloring, I noticed that my hair seemed thicker and more voluminous. I was surprised to see that my hair retained curl a little longer than usual and I was thrilled with the idea that just a shampoo and conditioner was able to give my hair so much body. I was excited to see how the products would work after I colored my hair.

After coloring my hair, my hair is usually so vibrant and strong and these products just helped with the colorburst. I waited until the next day to test the shampoo on my hair to avoid any potential science experiments on my hair. The next day, I used the shampoo and conditioner as directed and again I was thrilled at the amount of body that my hair had. I love it and love that it gives me the body of using a product or curling iron without having to do anything else.

I was originally a little leery of the price tag that often comes with salon brands, but this is several products in one, at least for my comparison and I'll definitely be switching to this shampoo and conditioner set. My hair feels healthier and I even got a few compliments from strangers today!

Ana is growing up...

I have so much to tell you now that Ana is almost 16 months old! I cannot believe how quickly that she is growing up, and how much she has learned in the past couple of months. She is a walking , talking giggling machine, so funny and charming. She loves to dance, sing, climb and read books to herself. She sings most of the alphabet, rocks her baby and sings lullabies and loves to play with her "crying dolls". I have been taking little videos and lots of photos and my next couple of posts (besides the reviews and giveaways are going to be photo extavaganzas. Plus I have a wonderful giveaway to post and tell you all about and the grand prize is $500 woweeeeee :)

It is going to be such a great Thanksgiving week. Thanks for reading and thanks for your patience as I settle in for the end of Fall and beginning of a fun filled winter :)

A fun day in NYC with Goodskin Labs!

As some of you know, for the past year I have been a Brand Ambassador and part of the Goodskin Labs Circle for Goodskin Labs. What does that mean? That means I make videos, test new products and spread the news about Goodskin Labs!!
I have been using their products for a couple of years now, and this past year I have been lucky enough to try all of their new products including Z-Pore, which I am in love with. Also I have been using a top secret product that will be appearing in stores this coming January!

Yesterday, I spent the day with the lovely ladies behind Goodskin Labs including fellow Circle member Lisa Silvera, and the Alison P.R/Beauty Bank team. We had a station complete with a sizzle reel where we told the visiting bloggers and magazine editors (Vogue, Allure, O etc) all about our experience with Goodskin and especially their newest products!

It was super fun, and although Ana was not far from my mind at all times, it gave me a chance to get away from the country, back into the city spirit and energy. Also, they had some great treats (did you check out the colorful macarons??) By the time the last group was leaving I was exhausted and headed home to my sweet sleeping baby!

I will definitely let you know all about the new product when I can..and will link any stories about Goodskin here. I was invited to represent them for a second year, and there will be a lot of activity on Facebook with video testimonials and fun! Hopefully, I can host a giveway or two too!

Ana and Mama October 2010

Today really feels like autumn. Although it is humid, it is damp and the smell of wet leaves and pumpkins permeates the air around me. Ana and I spent a couple of hours this afternoon at a lovely florist/farm-stand/ pumpkin patch and I felt like the Fall has settled in. I love this season for the beauty of the changing leaves. Warm apple cider and hot off the presses cider donuts. Hayrides and pumpkin patches. Apple picking and fuzzy warm
sweaters. Warm, comfy boots and carving the pumpkins. I cannot wait to do all of this with Ana and introduce her to the best season in the Hudson Valley. Be prepared for a barrage of photos!!

Great wins vs Bad wins...

I didn't want to have to post this post and it may piss some people off. Too bad, this is my blog and this is how I feel. I spend a lot of my free time entering giveaways via facebook and blogs. I love this hobby, it is fun, relaxing and on the off chance of a win, can be exciting. The downside?? Chasing down wins. I hate it. I am not a beggar. I do not like annoying people over and over. Why is it so hard to follow through with an item that one has offered to win. And, why does this happen over and over??

I wait patiently for the win to arrive and after a few weeks I follow through and remind the sponsor/crafter/maker/offerer with an email or private message that the item has still not arrived. I have gotten the run around, told it is lost in the mail (over and over), and heard every excuse in the book. I know that these are items that are offered for free, and that I should consider myself lucky that I win in the first place, but really, it is not nice. Please do not sponsor or offer up an item to win if you have no intention of mailing it or following through.

I know I am not the only one out there that feels this way, and it irks me to no end. If I sponsor a giveaway, I follow through and that is the final story. I have the right mind to make a list here and then try to get a response from the sponsor's , to defend their actions. What do you think???

Cleaning out the Baby Stuff...

I am cleaning out Ana's baby stuff , and it is not easy. I want to keep everything, every last toy and baby item, as they all contain emotional attachments and are a part of Ana and the life we are building together. But they are taking up too much room, so it is time to say goodbye to her baby swing, bassinet, and other baby toys and items.

Since we are completely weaned now, I no longer need the pump and all of the bottles that attach to the pump, milk containers etc. I have so much stuff. I am thinking about listing it all at the Be Green Sale that is in 2 weeks in Fishkill.

But: I better do it soon, probably tonight! It will be bittersweet packing it all up and trying to put a price on my sweet baby's memories. But there are so much more to make = and she has so many more things to discover. Every week I buy her little things to wear and play with and our journey is just beginning.

Next week we start music class, and I am so excited to watch her sing, dance and learn about beats. I think she is going to love the class so much!! Packing up will be bittersweet, but moving on is just sweet!

10 years of marriage? Where does the time go?

Here is a little secret I am going to share with you: 10 years ago on Sept 4, 2001 I married my best friend and love of my life. Why is that a secret? Well.....we didn't tell that many people. Some of our friends and family still do not know. They think we were married for the first time on Sept 1, 2002. And we did have a nice, big traditional wedding on that day. But we had been married for a year already. Why didn't we tell everyone?? Back then, the tradition of having my family and friends surrounding me was so important. We wanted to go big, and celebrate with all. Because we experienced 9-11 in NYC, and because we realized how important life and love is.

Little did I know that a week after we celebrated our love in Hoboken , NJ at City Hall with a couple of friends and my in-laws, that the world would fall down around us, and make us realize how important our small lives really are.

Sept 11, 2001.

I will always remember that day. Like it was yesterday. The fear. The yelling. The dust. The crying. The pain. The huge impact on my sense of mortality. Not knowing where Duncan was and trying desperately to reach him by cell. Hoping he was not on the PATH train to the WTC (which he took to work at Goldman -Sachs everyday). Trying to find my Dad and Step-mom on the boats that were making their way across the river. Driving up to Westchester sobbing while listening to the radio and hearing all about the death and destruction. Arriving back in Hoboken and seeing all the cars sitting in parking spots for days on end, with piles of tickets on their dash that would never get paid. Their drivers destroyed in the wreckage of the WTC. Their last commute one of pain and hate.

That day made me realize that all the silly stuff wasn't so important. But, having the love of my life by my side was. My world turned topsy turvy and I did not want to be living in the shadow of what once was. So, we looked for a house in the country and thus began our path to domestic bliss. One thing led to another and we sold that house, and bought a bigger one out in the country and had a baby. Now, we are a small, loving family of 3 with lots of sisters and brothers and parents and cousins, etc to surround us with love and support. And THAT is what is important.

I will teach my daughter tolerance and love. Patience and Honesty. And I will tell her the story of 9-11 and where we were when the buildings fell into the pits of pain and death. And I will teach her that nothing can replace love and family. So raise a glass to 10 years of love. 10 years of a good marriage. And to 10 more. And then 10 after that.

Does anyone out there know of a MOM stylist?

     So here it is, my daughter is now one years old and my well-loved maternity clothes have been laid to rest. But, I find myself in a fashion dilemma. You see, when I found myself pregnant and no longer fitting into my 4s and 6s, I bought black leggings, and cute oversized tees. Sure, I bought maternity jeans, blouses and nursing bras and tops, but I am sick of them and have ordered them out of my sight. So what do I wear?

   My closet is bursting with LBD's (little black dresses), cute platform sandals, and tight low slung jeans. But is this how a new Mama should dress? And even if I wanted to, how do I smush these gazoongas that served me so well as a nursing Mom (yes, I hit my 12 month mark and then some), into my once perfect fitting knit tops and fitted tees??

   I have new curves, and hubby loves them. Me??? Not so much. But besides curbing my carbaholicism, and joining a new gym (yesterday!!), what the heck can I do? I am resigned to be a stylish mama and never get caught in flip flops and sweats. Ok. That is a start. But, where does a stylish, chic woman around town (with a baby) shop? Do i order more from Hautelook? Hit the Woodbury Commons for some more Prada platforms and Betsey Johnson floral a-line frocks? Please, someone help me. I need a stylist.. A mom stylist. Do these exist?

   In the meantime, I will squeeze my new found curves into black leggings, long black tunics and my new black Ann Taylor slacks.(on sale for $30 with coupon) My cashmere twin-sets will be dusted off, laid out on my bed with my beautiful family pearls(thanks Mom!) and my low wedges polished. I am determined to be a chic mom, even if I have to hit the....wait for it...dare I say it..ugh I hate to....

Home safe and sound!!!

We are home safe and sound and had a fun weekend at the Grandparent's house despite the storm. We stayed over Sat night, and had a fun filled weekend of the Dutchess County Fair, board games, lots of food, silly Disney movies, and conversation. Both my step-sister and step-brother have adorable little girls, and the three of them together were just too too cute! We got home this afternoon, and though we kept hitting roadblocks (on the Taconic and Rte 82) we traveled backroads to get home. Even though we have a side yard and backyard full of old trees, nothing came down and I am counting us lucky. Very little wind damage, and no tree damage. The air is so super cool now, we have all of the windows open and I am enjoying catching up on my tivo and feeling cool air through the house.
