The Ted Lindsay Foundation was established in 2001 by Ted Lindsay and John Czarnecki, the father of a nine-year-old boy with autism. Funds are raised through golf outings and other events, as well as through sales of autographed sports memorabilia. Since our inception in 2001, the Ted Lindsay Foundation has raised over $1,500,000 for research into the cause and cure of autism.

Mission Statement
*To raise and dispense funds to new and existing research projects focusing on the cause and treatment of autism.
*To provide funding for training programs, educational programs, and social services for children with autism.
*To elevate public awareness in the community regarding the need for increased funding and support for children with autism.

Marvin Lewis Community Fund’s 2009 “Football 101″

The Cincinnati Bengals and the Marvin Lewis Community Fund (MLCF) once again team up to host Football 101 presented by PNC on Thursday, October 29th at Paul Brown Stadium at 4:30 p.m. The event starts with a silent auction, dinner, drinks, raffle, and door prizes.

Head Coach Marvin Lewis is joined by members of the Bengals’ coaching staff and players to explain the rules and nuances of football to the 450 attendees. Individuals learn the game in a relaxed and entertaining atmosphere. The event includes hands-on demonstrations, video presentations, and VIP tours of the locker room, weight room, and playing field. The night ends with coffee, desserts and a live auction.

“I love teaching this game and I do not think I’ve met a more enthusiastic and fun group of pupils than the participants that attend Football 101,” said Coach Lewis. “I look forward to recognizing our Pink Football Award winner every year as it is an inspiration to myself and all the attendees.”

The Football 101 participants will rotate through five stations:

*Under the Hood – Held in the team meeting room, retired NFL referee Paul Weidner discusses the rules of the game in an interactive session allowing the guests to “throw the flag and make the call.”
*Classrom – Bengals coaches break down game film and discuss tendencies, reading the defense, techniques, etc.
* Chalk Talk – Bengals coaches go over plays in the locker room and answer any questions the women have.
*Offensive Drills – Bengals offensive coaches lead the participants through the drills the offense practices during the week. Kicker Shayne Graham provides tips as the guests attempt field goals.
*Defensive Drills – Hitting the sled and tackling dummies were just a couple of the drills that were conducted under the watchful eyes of the defensive coaches.

The participants rotate through the interactive sessions every 20 minutes.

On Wed., Oct. 28, the Las Vegas Chapter of Speedway Children’s Charities will host the Sixth annual Texas Hold’em Poker Tournament at the Cannery Hotel and Casino. A $250 buy-in receives $1,000 tournament chips. The first hand will be dealt at 7 p.m., with the crowning of the champion at approximately 10p.m.

They could beat you in a quarter-mile drag race, but can they beat you on “the river?” Join stars of the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series in a poker showdown, where the last player standing takes home all of the glory and bragging rights of being the best at the table.

Volleyball Hall of Fame Announces Class of 2009 Inductees

HOLYOKE, Mass. (May 15, 2009) – The Volleyball Hall of Fame announced today the names of six volleyball greats who will be inducted as the Class of 2009 into its hallowed halls on Oct. 30 in Holyoke, Mass., the sport’s birthplace.

The newest induction class consists of Ana Beatriz Moser of Brazil, Ivan Bugajenkov of Latvia, Nikolay Karpol of Russia, Paul Libaud of France, Holly McPeak of the United States and Siegfried Schneider of Germany. Libaud was selected as an administrator, Karpol was honored in the coach category and the four remaining individuals were selected as players.

“The six members selected for the 2009 Volleyball Hall of Fame show a remarkable distinction of success in the sport of volleyball,” said Doug Beal, co-chair of the Volleyball Hall of Fame Selection Committee. “This induction class exemplifies diversity among represented countries and gender in areas of administrative leadership, coaching and both indoor and beach disciplines. This group continues to expand the excellence already inducted into the Volleyball Hall of Fame.”

With the Class of 2009, the Volleyball Hall of Fame showcases its worldwide theme of recognizing the top individuals within the sport. Russia will have its ninth individual enshrined into the Hall, while Brazil will have its fourth inductee. Germany and France are having their first countrymen inducted into the Volleyball Hall of Fame. A total of 17 different countries are represented in the Volleyball Hall of Fame with at least one inductee.

“As the Hall continues to become more internationally focused, we are delighted to showcase the talents of this class and help recognize the sport’s best players, coaches and leaders,” Volleyball Hall of Fame President David Casey said.

2009 Volleyball Hall of Fame Class of 2009

Ana Beatriz Moser (Brazil)
Despite being short in stature (1.85 meters), Ana Beatriz Moser is considered one of the greatest attackers of all time. She played in three Olympic Games (1988, 1992, 1996) and helped Brazil to the bronze medal at the 1996 Olympic Games, marking her country’s first-ever medal in the Olympic Games after losing in the 1992 Olympic Games bronze-medal match. Using a powerful jump serve, Moser was tabbed as the Best Server at the 1992 Olympic Games. She helped Brazil capture its first-ever FIVB World Championship medal with a silver at the 1994 event after leading her country to that season’s FIVB World Grand Prix. Moser and Brazil added a silver medal at the 1995 FIVB World Cup. She continued playing for the Brazilian National Team through the 1999 FIVB World Cup as she attempted to a four-time Olympian. However, she retired after the 1999 tournament due to a knee injury that also nearly cost her a chance to compete in the 1996 Olympic Games.

Ivan Bugajenkov (Latvia)
Ivan Bugajenkov, a Latvia native but a competitor for the Soviet Union, was a star on the Soviet Union (USSR) teams that captured back-to-back Olympic gold medals, the first at the inaugural Olympic volleyball competition in 1964 at Tokyo and the second in 1968 at Mexico City. At the Tokyo Olympics, the Soviet Union and Czechoslovakia tied with identical 8-1 record, but the USSR’s 25-5 set record was better than Czech silver medalist’s 26-10 set record. In addition, USSR won the head-to-head match with a 15-7 score in the fifth-set tiebreaker. In Mexico City, the Soviets had to recover from a first match loss to the USA to win the gold. Bugajenkov also starred on the USSR teams that won the World Championship in 1960 and 1962, and the European Championship in 1967. He was honored with the USSR Honored Master of Sport in 1964.

Nikolay Karpol (Russia)
Nikolay Karpol, the former USSR/Russian women’s volleyball coach, is considered to be one of the most successful and long-serving international coaches in the history of the game. Known as “The Howling Bear,” Karpol retired from the post of national team coach after leading the Russian women to the silver medal in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. His USSR/Russian teams accumulated over the years two Olympic gold medals (1980, 1988) and two Olympic silver medals (1992, 2000), a gold medal at the FIVB World Championship in 1990, three FIVB World Championship bronze medals (1994, 1998, 2002), three FIVB World Grand Prix titles (1997, 1999, 2002) and eight times European championships (1977, 1979, 1989, 1991, 1993, 1997, 1999 & 2001). Karpol was elected Coach of the year by the FIVB in 1989 and 1991.

Paul Libaud (France)
After holding the position of president of the French Volleyball Federation from 1945-1947, Paul Libaud was elected the first president of the Federation Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) at its founding Congress in 1947 in Paris, and served in that role until 1984 – a total of 37 years. He is credited with growing the FIVB from its original 13 founding members to over 150 members in 1984, while starting the Men’s World Championship in 1949 and adding the Women’s World Championship in 1952. He is also credited with getting volleyball on the Olympic Games schedule commencing in Tokyo in 1964. The charismatic Libaud enlisted the services of numerous world leaders in various FIVB roles that promoted volleyball and resulted in the FIVB being one of the great sport federations when he retired in 1984. On his retirement, he was awarded the International Olympic Committee’s Olympic Order and given the FIVB title President Emeritus. Libaud died at the age of 89 on April 2, 1994.

Holly McPeak (United States)
Holly McPeak, a three-time beach volleyball Olympian for the United States, competed in the first three Olympic Games events for the discipline – 1996, 2000 and 2004. She earned the Olympic bronze medal in 2004 with partner Elaine Youngs after consecutive fifth-place finishes with Nancy Reno in 1996 and Misty May-Treanor in 2000. She holds 72 career beach titles, including 19 FIVB titles, two FIVB Grand Slam events titles and 53 domestic titles. In 2002, McPeak became the first woman worldwide to surpass $1 million career earnings and retired in May 2009 with over $1.5 million in career earnings. She was named the MVP in three different USA leagues, along with being an eight-time Best Defensive Player of the Year in those three leagues.

Siegfried Schneider (Germany)
As one of its veteran players, Siegfried Schneider sparked the German Democratic Republic (DDR or East Germany) team to the silver medal at the 1972 Olympic Games. East Germany defeated the Soviet Union during the semifinals of the 1972 Olympic Games, but lost its chance for the gold medal with a four-set loss to Japan. Schneider played a key role in East Germany winning its first-ever FIVB World Cup in 1969 and its first-ever FIVB World Championship in 1970 with a dramatic five-set win over Bulgaria. During the 1968 Olympic Games, he helped East Germany to a fourth-place finish in which he played all nine matches. East Germany was 6-3 in the round robin format at the 1968 Olympic Games.

7th Annual Kevin Harvick Fan Club Gathering

Kevin Harvick Inc. (KHI) is proud to announce the seventh annual Kevin Harvick Fan Club Gathering on Saturday, October 24 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Kevin Harvick Inc. facility located at 703 Park Lawn Court in Kernersville, North Carolina.

This year’s event will feature an autograph session, for 2009 Fan Club members only, with 2007 Daytona 500 winner Kevin Harvick. Three-time Truck Series champion Ron Hornaday, the most successful motocross racer in history, Ricky Carmichael and KHI team co-owner DeLana Harvick will also participate in autograph sessions. A limited number of tickets are available for these sessions for Fan Club members only and attendees will be selected through a random ticket draw.

The Kevin Harvick Inc. race shop will be open for viewing, showcasing all three of KHI’s race teams. Nikita’s Personal Testimony
I have traveled all over the world as a top athlete in professional wrestling. As far as “bad guys” came, I was one of the “baddest”. The story was that I was a superior athlete who came off the boat, literally, from the Soviet Union to the United States to show Americans what a “real” athlete looked like. A Russian guy who spoke not a word of English. That was the perception of who I was supposed to be. It worked. It is still one of the most talked about events in wrestling history.

The reality was that I was just a guy from the projects of Minneapolis, Minnesota who grew up on welfare. I lived the part of a Russian 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. For the first 13 months of my career, I never spoke a word of English in public or to anyone, except my Uncle Ivan Koloff. After this time, I only spoke in broken English. The character that I “played” was a heartless, cold, and evil person, a man of no compassion for anyone whatsoever. This was an easy character for me to portray, as it wasn’t that far from the real me. (I would later become a “good guy” and a fan favorite). Upon my retirement in 1993, I found myself reflecting back on my life and career. Evaluating all that I had accomplished, the accolades, the fame and the fortune, I was confused as to why I still felt empty inside. The world told me that fame and fortune would make me happy, but I had all of these things and was still unfulfilled. In October of 1993, I stepped into a church service and when an altar call was given, in an instant, I immediately knew what was missing in my life. A relationship with Jesus Christ. My life has never been the same. The years of my journey with Lord Jesus, from 1993 to present, have far exceeded the first 34 years of my life. I have been privileged and honored that the Lord has opened doors all over the world for me to minister. I have spoken in churches, schools, prisons and the streets of the U.S. and the world.

As I have shared my story of how God performed “heart surgery” on me, I have witnessed thousands come to Jesus and experience God’s awesome power of changing their hearts and lives forever.

The Lord has not only called me to share where He’s brought me, He has also birthed messages in me for the church of today. I would be honored to come and be a part of what you are doing and to help further God’s kingdom in your city.

KOLOFF FOR CHRIST MINISTRY
In 1987, Nikita was named Inspirational Wrestler of the Year. In 1993, at the age of 33, in the height of his career, he retired from professional athletics. His wrestling career has taken him to places like Japan, Saipan, Guam, Kuwait, Puerto Rico, Canada and all over the U.S. Business ventures have taken him throughout Europe.

Nikita is heavily involved with Youth and World Missions work, having traveled to Africa, South America, Trinidad, Curacao, Molodova and most recently Singapore. He often preaches in churches and schools all over the world, crossing all denominational barriers in an evangelistic style.

Nikita has a power packed wrestling outreach that touches the heart of every community where this event has taken place. Through these events, thousands have come to accept Jesus Christ as their Savior.

The Harley Race Wrestling Academy

Since it’s inception in 1999, Harley Race has been providing its students with the necessary tools to propel forward in the wrestling industry. Within the last five years seven students from the academy have signed with WWE. Several others have toured and trained with Japans premiere promotion ProWrestling NOAH. The Harley Race Wrestling Academy has a strong working relationship with WWE and ProWrestling NOAH. Both organizations attend the Harley Race Wrestling Camp every year to scout talent. The camp held every September in Eldon, Missouri, is the only place in the world that you will ever find both WWE and ProWrestling NOAH under one roof scouting talent.

Harley Race lived a dream every time he stepped into the ring. He continues to pass that dream along by training the superstars of tomorrow. You can achieve your dreams too and be the next superstar to graduate from the academy.

Collectively, the Elite training Crew brings over 160 years of experience in the professional wrestling industry. This love and passion is conveyed in our desire to see the foundation we helped to build with respect, hard work and dedication continue.

In April of 2003, Harley Race, Les Thatcher, and several other trainers held a two-day wrestling clinic in Las Vegas, Nevada, as part of the Cauliflower Alley Club Convention. There were several independent wrestlers in attendance from schools that we believe to be legitimate and adamant about teaching wrestling the proper way. However, there was one thing that stood out to us. While these young athletes had a grasp of the basic moves, but the smaller intricacies that make the bigger things work were missing. Psychology wasn’t even a part of many of the independent wrestlers’ vocabulary. After much thought, we felt that we had an answer.

Many of today’s trainers are young athletes with only half dozen years or more of experience themselves. While they can teach what they do know, they cannot take you where they have not been themselves. In forming EPWT, we can go into these training centers and work with not only the students, but also work with the trainers themselves. Plain and simple, if we can help the trainers expand their knowledge, and improve their training techniques, then they should be able to turn out a higher quality of performer. Our goal is to give something back to the business that has been 90% of our own lives, and to help keep the standards of excellence as high as possible.

Our clinics are a cross breed of old school and current trends, and our idea is to combine the two into one beautiful art form. We want to help add dimension to some of the one-dimensional matches we are all too familiar with in today’s independent wrestling scene.

Why Elite? What do we bring to the table? Combining the careers of the entire Elite Crew there is over 160 years of pro wrestling experience, a combined total of over 50 regional and world titles held. Three of our crew are hall of fame inductees, and many of the top performers in WWE, TNA, ROH, and talent in several Japanese and Puerto Rican promotions have learned at least part or all of their pro wrestling education from members of our team.

Scattered throughout our Web site, you will see inspirational quotes that appeared on the walls of the HWA training facility from Hillsmith Drive in Cincinnati. These words provide a solid understanding of our mentality regarding training, and inspired many of today’s top wrestling superstars as they worked their way to the top. Also as you look around you will see that we have several different plans for you to build clinics on. You may bring you group to one of the two Elite-sanctioned training camps, or we will be happy to travel to your location.

Our main goal is to help keep a high standard of talent and professionalism flowing into our industry so that we all may take pride in the profession that we’ve dedicated our lives.

Alicia’s House

Alicia loved people and loved helping people. She would spend hours working with her grandma, at the church pantry, making boxes of food to hand out to people in need. Although her grandma had a specific way to nutritionally pack the boxes, Alicia would always add her special touch by making sure each box would contain a special treat, usually candy.

To honor the memory of Alicia, who passed away at the age of 4, January 14, 2001, her Grandma Stella & her Poppy Juan started a non-for profit, 501c3, food pantry called Alicia’s House. Alicia’s House will continue to feed thousands of hungry families and each box of food distributed will contain Alicia’s special loving touch.

Philanthropy
The Cauliflower Alley Club is, primarily, a benevolent organization. Touchdown for the Troops

TOUCHDOWN FOR THE TROOPS
On October 23rd and 24th 2009, Operation Homefront will team up with Athletes Helping Kids, to bring Touchdown for the Troops to Jacksonville, FL. This weekend of sports centered activities, culminates in a free sports skills clinic for Jacksonville youths aged 7 to 17 years old. In support of Operation Homefront-Florida’s mission, 10-15 former NFL players will travel to Jacksonville to coach the clinic. They will visit Mayport Naval Station and NAS Jacksonville to meet local service members.

Since its inception in 1993, Athletes Helping Kids has conducted 45 non-contact football clinics where students receive coaching from some of football’s heroes and learn valuable life skills. Athletes Stress 4 main points: 1. Anti drug 2. Anti violence 3. Get an education, stay in school 4. No matter what you do in life, make a difference.

JACKSONVILLE COMMUNITY
Rarely can you find a city so supportive of their military service members as Jacksonville, FL. This Youth Ministry was created in 1990 to support our youth in becoming morally responsible for their actions. The program is designed to motivate young boys and girls between nine years old and 15 years old to be responsible and assist them with understanding juvenile laws.

AIMBIG builds confidence, character, leadership and respect through individuals and small group counseling session in a classroom environment through a weekly commitment from the student and the former Professional Athlete.

AIMBIG reaches out to deliver speeches at school assemblies, sports banquets, church groups, and youth partnerships in various communities.

Professional Athletes have a way to reach out to youth to encourage and motivate them to stay focused on themselves through education, spiritual awareness and self discipline.

The Missouri Sports Hall of Fame has announced that long-time Cardinal third baseman Ken Reitz, Royals star pitcher Steve Busby and major league pitcher Carl Mays will be inducted at a special evening ceremony to be held at the Hammons Field Training Facility on October 22nd. The induction is presented by the Ozarks Coca Cola / Dr Pepper Bottling Company. Doors will open at 5:30.

4th Annual ziMS Foundation Gala & Golf Tournament

Dear Prospective Contributor:

I’d like to take a moment to introduce myself and the ziMS Foundation. I am Ryan Zimmerman, a Virginia Beach native and currently the third baseman for the Washington Nationals. I grew up in Virginia Beach, Virginia and graduated from Kellam High School. My parents still reside in Sandbridge, Virginia. In 1995 my mom Cheryl, then a special education teacher in Virginia Beach, was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). It has been difficult to see such a vibrant, athletic, energetic family member sidelined and unable to enjoy her many passions.

The ziMS Foundation was created to raise funds for the treatment and ultimate cure of MS. I am fortunate in so many aspects of my life that I am able to use both my athletic ability and public exposure to help raise money and awareness so that other families may be spared the devastating affects of this disease. MS is a chronic, unpredictable neurological disease that affects the central nervous system and more than 400,000 people nationwide.

The Foundation’s goal is to involve businesses in our 4th Annual Gala and Golf Events November 6 and 7 in Virginia Beach. These events are an important step for the ziMS Foundation to raise money and awareness for MS. Last year’s event raised in excess of $105,000. Our goal this year is to surpass $150,000 and to do this we need your help.

“We are very excited about what we have been able to do in 3 years,” said Cheryl Zimmerman. “What started as a grass roots effort in 2006 is beginning to have a positive effect.”

Formed in 2006 by Washington Nationals Ryan Zimmerman, The ziMS Foundation is dedicated to raising funds to help treat and hopefully find the ultimate cure for Multiple Sclerosis. The neurological disease that affects over 400,000 folks in The United States and specifically one person close to Our Number 11’s heart. Ryan’s mom, Cheryl, was diagnosed with MS in 1995. And even Ryan has said it has been difficult for him “to see such a vibrant, athletic, energetic family member sidelined and unable to enjoy her many passions.”

With those thoughts heavy on his mind, Ryan Zimmerman–along with his parents–Cheryl & Keith–started The ziMS Foundation. And over the past three years have raised over $200,000. Funds now being distributed to needy organizations looking to offset the devastation of a disease that affects the central nervous system. Not only is the ziMS Foundation helping those near their very own Virginia Beach, Virginia community, but also is branching out to The University of Virginia’s Neurological MS Clinic and The Arlington YMCA. Gifts have been granted to The Hampton Roads Chapter of Multiple Sclerosis, The Yoga Program (for MS Patients) at The Arlington “Y”, as well as, The ziMS Foundation fully funding a “Flip Flop Retreat” in Virginia Beach for those with MS and their caregivers–in cooperation with The Hampton Roads MS Chapter.

Specifically to help The UVA Neurological MS Clinic, Wintergreen Resort in Virginia will host a special Golf Tournament this October 23rd to benefit the ziMS Foundation. And in fact, Ryan Zimmerman and his parents are matching whatever dollars are raised–up to $15,000–to be directly donated to the UVA Clinic.

On Wednesday, October 21st, 2009, we will be joined by Johnny Miller as we host the Steve Young/Jerry Rice Bay Area Classic at CordeValle Golf Club. Funds raised by this event will benefit Forever Young Foundation and The Tech Museum of Innovation. We invite you to join us as we seek to bless the lives of Bay Area children served by these fine organizations.

In 1993, Forever Young was established to support community projects and non-profit organizations effectively serving the therapeutic and academic needs of seriously ill and underprivileged children. We are proud to have The Tech Museum join us as our partner in this event. The Tech Museum engages people of all ages and backgrounds in exploring and experiencing technologies affecting their lives, and strives to inspire the young to become innovators in the technologies of the future.
