And vampires “live” forever. The immortality vampires represent is attractive, aside from the whole blood-drinking thing, they don’t get sick, they don’t age, they don’t die. The latest innovations all focus on finding the elusive fountain of youth and combating the signs of aging—thinning hair, hair loss, grey hair, wrinkles, age spots, sagging, cellulite—are you feeling depressed yet? Truly, dis-ease is the dis-ease within us, our discontent and dread of aging and dying.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">We spend so much time in the futile attempt to defer aging and avoid death, we have forgotten to actually live. Death is inevitable, but how we live our lives is a choice. I choose to spend each day as if it were my last. I choose to take care of myself. I choose to treat others how I wish to be treated. Life is far from perfect. Humans, myself included, are infinitely flawed. Consequentially, life is also flawed. I still prefer an imperfect life over a perfect death.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Immortality is not an infallible recipe for happiness. I see it as a never-ending existence of isolation and loneliness. The endless years becoming meaningless, with time in unlimited supply. Humans strive to seek meaning in their lives. We all want a life worth living. Worth dying for.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">In A Vampire’s Tale, my vampire hero Corgan Halton seeks redemption for his past wrongs, using his story as an eventual substitute for his perpetuity. He desires the finality of death, but wants to make his life, as it is, worthwhile first. Even though the possibility of infinite years stretches before him, he chooses a finite existence.</span><br />

comfort?” <br />

His proximity did funny things to her stomach. Beyond the usual nervous butterflies, she felt like she had a whole slew of acrobats jumping around in there. Too close for comfort? Absolutely. <br />
<br />
He relocated her forcibly from her comfort zone. So, she hadn't left her place lately, other than the occasional run for groceries or coffee; she worked at home. She wrote for a living, and that certainly was not a predictable career. It required a certain amount of imagination and persistence. Plus, it was fun. Writing sci-fi was like vacationing in another world, or something like that, all the time. <br />
<br />
“So, I become absorbed in my writing and don’t leave my apartment for days.” Or
weeks. “It doesn’t bother me. I’m not really a ‘people’ person. I work at home. I like working at home.” <br />
<br />
“Who are you trying to convince, Marisa?” <br />
<br />
She had no clue. Time and sense flew out the proverbial window when he leaned in closer. <br />
<br />
“This is a bad idea, for more reasons than I'd care to count. What does it matter?
I'm already going to hell.” <br />

His lips met hers. Grabbing her shoulders, he crushed her against his body. <br />

Rainbows, lollipops, and sugar cream pie! Oh, my! He tasted like delicious
darkness, all her favorites rolled up into one tight package. Giving herself fully to his kiss, all the tension in her body seeped out. Better than a chemical detox, kissing him made her feel renewed and refreshed. She didn't need to breathe; he supplied her with a lifeline. <br />

He released her lips, still holding her shoulders firmly in place. <br />

Busted. That was the trouble with being a writer. Having the compulsion to overdescribe everything. “What?” <br />
