Free Reprint Articles are articles that are free to publish on web pages. Normally, these articles are distributed by article directories and are categorized by topic.

Some of the most popular article directory sites are:

Lady Pens

Great Articles for Moms

Ezine Articles

Go Articles

Article Alley

FRAs are used to add content to web pages that will help attract search engine traffic. For example, if you have a website on which you sell scrapbooking supplies, you would search for FRAs on that particular topic. Article directories list available articles in specific categories and normally have a searchable database.

Using FRAs is the quickest way to get quality content for a website. It will save you time because you won’t have to come up with the topics yourself and then type it out.

However, when using FRAs you will need to rewrite the articles so as to avoid duplicate content on the web. Other people who are in the same line of business as you may also obtain these articles, and when someone conducts a search engine query on a particular subject, you don’t want them finding duplicate content. For one thing it looks bad because your readers want to know your content comes from you, and another thing search engines don’t like duplicate content. So, make the articles your own by rewriting them to suit your personality and style.

If you don’t have time to rewrite the articles yourself, you might consider hiring a ghostwriter who will do it for you. A quality ghostwriter will be able to determine your style and personality, therefore will write in your “voice”.

With Blogher right around the corner and Blog World Expo coming up in October, a lot of bloggers are out there fishing for sponsorship – just like this past spring when they were looking for sponsorship to Blissdom ‘09.

As a business owner who sponsored two mom bloggers to attend Blissdom ‘09 – I am looking back on the money I spent on those sponsorships and checking out the return on investment – or should I say, lack thereof.

Mom Masterminds sponsored Carrie Lauth of Natural Mom Talk Radio. She wore a Mom Masterminds t-shirt and handed out business cards with a coupon code good for a free month of MM Membership. (A $50 value)

Mom’s Talk Network sponsored Alyssa Avant of Beauty By Design Online. She handed out cards inviting mom bloggers to check out the Mom’s Talk Affiliates program and claim a free product from our Mom’s Talk Biz website.

Note that our offers are targeted to mom bloggers who want to earn money with their blogs and that they were set up to be easy to take advantage of. No strings attached.

Hopes: These fun, engaging mom bloggers would pass the cards out and have lots of great conversations about their sponsor. Dozens of mom bloggers would learn about our company, tuck the card away and take action on it within a month after the event. By taking action, I mean sign up for the freebie.

Actions: Our fun, engaging mom bloggers did pass out the cards and talk up Mom Masterminds and Mom’s Talk Network. They had a great time and from what I see, are remembered well by other attendees.

Results: Zip

Traffic to the MM URL we set up to monitor the Blissdom offer was low. Fewer than 50 visits.

Requests for the freebie we offered via Mom’s Talk Biz never came in.

Do I count these Sponsorships as a Total Failure?

From an ‘awareness’ point of view, I’m sure that some mom bloggers learned about my businesses at Blissdom that didn’t know about them before. But, I didn’t do this to raise awareness. I did it to create results.

It was fun to do it. I loved giving the moms the news that we were sponsoring them. It was fun to see them talking about the sponsorship on their blogs and on twitter.

I don’t blame the bloggers we sponsored. They did exactly what they promised to do.

But in the end, it led to zero results.

The lesson learned has to be that one person handing out cards at an event is ineffective.

Looking back I think I should have pursued being an Event Sponsor rather than sponsoring an individual blogger.

Our sponsorship costs were fairly low. We paid for hotel and admission to the event. (They lived close enough that they didn’t need to fly.) With miscellaneous expenses added in, I spent about $750.

I’m pretty sure that I could have spent that $750 with the event organizers themselves and got more exposure and better results overall.

Do you disagree?

Do you have ideas for how individual sponsorships can be made more effective? I’d love to hear your comments.

Vloggers! My fave. Instead of listing them all I’m just sending you to MomTV where all the coolest hang out.

Bloggers that love writing

I want to mention Janice & Susan from 5 Minutes for Mom. I have no idea what category to put them in because whatever topic it is they probably have a sister site all about it!

Here are two that every blogger should watch carefully. These are probably the most important of this whole list.

The people who follow you

Your niche market

Did you notice I left out the big “important” ones? Yea. That was on purpose.
I only wish I had time to read all of these! So, who did I miss? Want to add your blog in the comments?

This is the last question in the cross blog conversation with Chele from Moms Love Shopping because my internship is coming to an end. Chele responded to my previous question about marketing with a great [although non-sexy] answer. I know a lot of people that need to read her answer about marketing. Thank you, Chele, for your part of the conversation!

Here is her question for me:

When shopping online, what aspects about a blog/website discourage you from making a purchase that you were considering? What do you wish more bloggers/online retailers would take into account for their shopping visitors?

There’s so many places to shop online that if it’s not easy I just don’t shop there. It’s not like we have to get in the car and drive somewhere. We just click, click to another store.

I don’t know if high prices count, but they certainly discourage me. Aside from that – outrageous shipping & handling. Ok, ok I’ll get serious now.

A search bar is a high requirement for me. Search = shop. I’m not a browser type; I’m a get in, find it, and get out.

Flashing ads are no good. Hello! I’m already shopping your site. I don’t like those TVs hanging down in Wal-mart either.

Jumping through 30 hoops to check out drives me nuts. I like when it tells me, “Page 2 of 3″ or something that I know how much I have left to fill out.

Not having an easy way to view the cart and returns to shopping makes me leave.

Having to hunt for the shipping & handling makes me suspect that they jacked it up.

I wish more would have PayPal. I love PayPal.

Just email me the invoice. Don’t tell me to print it or lose it because I’ll lose it. Let me keep it safe in my email folder.

Is that enough ranting? I’m not normally like this, but Chele asked.

I’d love to hear your answers in the comments!

There are 3 levels of membership to choose from. You can try one for a month and if you need more you can go to the next level or, if you don’t like it [which I highly doubt] you can cancel at any time. I highly recommend that you get some feed back.

For me personally, I needed the commitment. As a busy mother/wife it’s easy to just push things aside because of the demands of daily life. I needed to know that I had a deadline and someone watching over my virtual shoulder. If you are that type you might want to consider the one time payment. If your money is invested in the internship I think you will be more conscious of the time you put into it. If you use the internship to develop good blogging habits it will be totally worth the price!

You’ll learn about Wordpress, affiliate marketing, networking, better writing, linking, memes, and so much more. You can wait till fall when Kelly will be taking six more interns for free. Take a chance by following Kelly on Twitter and write for her blogs OR have a sure thing by signing up for the blog internship for your blog now.

Headline – Will it catch the reader’s eye and make them interested? Does it have key words that will show up in searches? Does the post deliver what the title promises?

Voice – Read the post out loud. Does it sound like you? Does it flow?

Grammar – Edit! Edit! Edit! Check for misspellings and proper punctuation. Cut out extra words wherever you can.

Layout – Is it scannable? Have you made some key words bold? Can you turn some of it into a list? Is there white space? Use the preview tab and make sure it looks good.

Links – Can you link to any of your other posts? Does someone else have a similar post that might be of interest to your readers?

Your readers will appreciate your checking these six things!

How did I make this money? Through an affiliate link.

How did I learn to be an affiliate marketer? From podcasts and recordings. I had dabbled with links to Amazon and ads in my sidebar. They weren’t doing much at all so I knew that I was missing something.

How can you learn this? First, listen to these free Mom’s Talk Affiliates Podcasts. If you don’t have a clue about affiliate marketing listen to them first. They start from square one and give you a nice foundation.

After that, or if you already know a little bit about affiliate marketing, purchase these affiliate expo recordings. They are worth every penny of the $7.00. I learned so much from them! It was the first time that I sat with a notebook and pen in hand to listen to a podcast/recording. Usually I’m folding laundry, doing dishes, stirring food, or something, but I kept having to stop and write notes so I sat and listened.

Do you want to climb the affiliate marketing ladder too? I’ve given you two excellent resources to learn from.

I know some of you reading this have already listed to the expo recordings. What did you think of them?

You may think it strange that I picked the meme about marriage for this blog. Bear with me, I hope it will make sense.

Before I started this internship, before I even filled out the application, I talked it over with my husband. I knew there would be more time demands on me and more things that would not get done. I needed him to be okay with that because, to me, bringing in tons of money would mean nothing if my husband/marriage was not happy. Not that I’m bringing in tons of money, but you get the idea.

I want to encourage you to put your marriage above your business. Sometimes, it’s tempting for me to just keep online things to myself because it’s harder to explain to him anyways. It’s a part of my life that’s important to me right now and it needs to be shared with my husband.

Don’t let your online friends push away the friend that you married.

Here’s what she asked me:

What was your interest in becoming a blogging intern at Profitable Mommy Blogging? I noticed that you were already blogging on your own blog for two years before accepting the position.

What are the distractions that keep you from spending as much time as you’d like blogging and how do you avoid them?

The short story of why I wanted to be an intern is that I’d never made more than $10 a month on my blog during the first two years. I started “stalking” Kelly and her network because of sitting beside Carrie Lauth at Blissdom. After finding out that they both support their family with what they make I wanted to know how they did it. My goal right now is not to support my whole family, but we could really use some help. Access to Kelly and Mom Masterminds was a big incentive also!

My main time distractions are ages 6, 4, and 2. LOL The best way to avoid them is to get up early while they’re sleeping. I also use the computer during nap time. Another distraction is reading. I love to just sit and read, and read, and read. Some of that I can justify because I do reviews on my blog, but occasionally I feel guilty for the time I spend in a book. I avoid that by making sure I post to my blog before I pick up a book. A smaller distraction is other blogs. It’s so fun to just sit and go through blog after blog, but I fall in the rut of reading without commenting and that’s no good.

Now it’s Chele’s turn again.

What has been the most profitable marketing tool for you and your blog?

Stay tuned for more conversation!

Christian bloggers are often choosier about the ads that get displayed around their content so monetizing a Christian blog can be challenging.

This year I converted one of my oldest websites into a Wordpress blog. Women By Grace has long been a resource for Christian women and is now growing as a community blog. I looked around hoping to find some new revenue sources and was pleased to discover a Christian Ad Network and quick to sign up and give them a try.

First Impressions

Getting set up wasn’t hard. I added my site, grabbed the ad code and installed it on my site.

For some reason the ads were nevere visible to me on my PC, not in Firefox or in Internet Explorer. But when I viewed the site on my Mac, I could see them fine. Never could figure out why.

I ended up being confused about ad sales as I started to see tiny profits right away. Six cents here, three cents there. I had set up ads for higher values than that. I wrote the support address to ask about it and was told that it was PPC and because I hadn’t declared a PPC price, it was defaulting at a penny. Still confused because I hadn’t signed up for the PPC option at all from what I could tell from their system.

I did get one bulk ad buy, earning me $35.00. That seemed promising – but it was an isolated instance. In the next two months, no other ads were bought.

Last Impressions

For the last two weeks my site has been loading slow – agonizingly slow. I could see that it was the ad network slowing things down but hoped it would clear up soon. It didn’t. I finally decided to drop out and removed the ad units from the site.

I would have loved for it to work out and I’m sad that it hasn’t.

Hopefully another option will show up one of these days.

Normally when someone says sticky I grab the washcloth and head for the kids. A sticky website, however, is a good thing. If your website is sticky it means that visitors will stay longer. They will visit more pages, and they will book mark it to come back again.

Some simple things you can do to make your site sticky are:

Make sure your page loads quickly

Have your subscribe information prominent

Include related posts at the bottom of each post

Make the links open in a new page

Include links right in your content to other content

Have a list of categories in a prominent position

Make sure your website is easy to navigate

Use the More tag so more posts are visible on the main page

Include a next post/previous post link

Keep your website attractive without cluttered sidebars

The possibilities are unlimited!

Keeping visitors on your site will help your bounce rate. A “bounce” is when a reader comes, looks, and leaves. Having a giveaway that gets you lots of comments without loyal readers will affect your bounce rate because those visitors just bounced through on their merry way to more giveaways and probably won’t be back. You want your bounce rate to be a low percentage. You want readers to visit more than one page, to drink their coffee and stay a while. A good bounce rate statistic of 65% or under should be included in your media kit.

I am still cross blogging with Edie from Millionaire Moms, and she asked me about my favorite topic! Twitter!

Considering that we BOTH love Twitter, would you mind sharing your top 10 reasons you love it? Also, I’d be interested in hearing ways that you’ve learned to use it effectively as well as how you keep its use from becoming a “time waster” in your work day.

Well, Edie that’s a tough one… there are like a million zillion reasons I love twitter…. but I will try to norrow them down to just ten

It has helped me in my writing career. I had no idea that writers and publishers and agents use twitter the way they do, but I quickly discovered that they LOVE it. I mean, it makes sense–we spend all day at our computers writing away, and when we want a quick reprieve from the depths of our manuscript we have twitter right at our fingertips.

I use it when I am bored at mommy stuff. Seriously. How often have you been at some goofy jump-a-thon birthday party bored out of your mind? I just whip out my trusty iPhone and log into my Tweetie App. (That’s THE bet iPhone App hands down for twitter, none of the others even come close.) Then I can laugh and talk to thousands of people instead of stabbing a plastic sprok in my arm for fun.

The networking friends I have made through twitter is in-sane. It’s just so cool. I have mommy blogging friends, mommy writer friends, battlestar galactica friends–and they ALL make me smile each day with their tweets.

People can’t be long winded. You can’t annoy me with a five page email in 140 characters, so if someone has something important to say, then they have no choice but to say it quick.

My parents keep up to date on my life. I actually tie twitter into my facebook. (Lots of people say don’t do this, but I do it because I don’t have the time to keep up with both social networks.) My dad checks in and he gets to read my tweets throughout the day, and look at all the pictures I upload of the goings on of our every day life! He LOVES this, and so do I!

The links are so up to date. I used to keep up with Digg and Redditt for the latest in big news stories, but they are so far behind twitter’s trending topics now, that they are almost obsolete. I think that’s cool that we get news the very second something happens. Makes me feel all informed!

I can say whatever I want whenever I want. You have to be careful with this one, because sometimes you say something in twitterville, and then wish instantly you could take it back. Sure, there’s the delete key, but once someone has retweeted your stuff, it lives on in twitter forever and ever. But, for the most part when I am feeling something. I just say it.

You get out of twitter what you put into it. My husband once asked me to build his business twitter account, and I tried-I really did. I got him a ton of followers in just a few days, but then he started complaining that his followers were just spammy and boring. Not like my real followers. That’s just it. Every single person I have followed, I have personally checked out, and I know exactly what their twitter stream is about. I don’t have to deal with a lot of spam in my twitter stream, because when I see something I don’t like-I just unfollow the person.

People who follow me are for the most part interested in what I have to say. Sure, you have your twitter gamers out there just trying to build up their numbers, but most of the time-when I tweet about a funny ninja coat rack or a new blog post-my followers are genuinely interested. That makes twitter totally worth the time.

You can tweet from the bath tub. I love that you can tweet from anywhere. And sometimes, I just put my phone in a baggie and take a bath while I get my social network on! It’s fabulous, you are making connections, meeting new people, sharing genuine interest in things, and getting clean all at the same time.

And, Edie also asked me how I kept it from being distracting.

Well, unfortunately I don’t have an answer for that. I don’t do a very good job there. I can get distracted for hours at a time in a heated twitdebate. So, I guess that would be my question for Edie!

How do YOU keep twitter from being a disctraction? Or, just social networking in general? We know it’s important to grow our business, but how much is too much?

Over to you, Edie

To those of you wondering: Yes, I put that twitter bird in that bathtub, and yes it took me longer than actually writing this post.

If you’d like to see her part of the conversation, head over there and check it out!

Wow, Edie! That’s a great story. I think it’s neat how your blog helped you reach out to others in the same situation as yours. This crazy internet! I can’t believe the lasting friendships I’ve made with it!

She asked me:

Would you mind sharing how you got your start in blogging? Also, can you share why someone who isn’t “new” to blogging chose to be an intern for Moms Talk Network? (We have that in common!) What do you hope to gain out of your experience as an intern?

I was actually really into scrapbooking and owned ScrapLove. A lot of the girls on that site just kind of all decided at the same time to start blogs, so I did too. I signed into blogger–and started typing away! (I have since moved to wordpress on a self hosted site, but I don’t think it even existed, or was at least VERY new when I first started blogging.) Well, when my daughter was very young, I didn’t have time to run an online business, so I sold that website… but kept my blogging one. It’s kind of been an off and on thing for me. Sometimes I get really into blogging, and others I completely forget it even exists.

The reason I decided to tackle the internship even though I already had a blog was that my blog wasn’t accomplishing anything. Basically, the only reader was my dad, and I never really tried to do anything with it, ever. Now that I am working with Kelly, I have put a couple of different ad campaigns, etc. on there, and I have started blogging more regularly. I have also learned to be more honest and forthcoming in my blog. I’ve always been scared to sort of lay it all out there on the internet for so long, because I was worried what people might think, but after seeing some of the things the other girls in my intern group write about–I decided to just go for it. And… you know what?

They were right. When you’re blogging–the more you put it all out there, the more people want to read your stuff.

Now, my question for you Ms. Edie:

I noticed your site has a free ebook. How important is it to a site like yours to offer a free giveaway like that? Is that something moms should do with their blog in order to build a following or get a good email list for newsletters and such?

And, since it’s about social networking… what’s your FAVORITE way to social network?

Over to you Edie!

What is a cross blog conversation, you ask?

Well, it’s where we ask each other questions back and forth on our own blogs and the person over at the other site answers them on theirs. It should be interesting to see, because I’ve never done anything like this before… and I am going to start!

So, Edie-My question for you is this:

I noticed you have a mix of both pleasure and business on your blog. Occaosinally you mention a proud mommy moment, but mostly you talk about the things that matter to those momies out there wanting to make cash with their blogs. How do you decide your balance for those sorts of posts? Do you have a system, or do you just sort of go for it?

(If you guys have any questions for Edie, please let me know! We will be talking to her for a few days!)
