Let’s take a look at these boards

My first one is the Board  Blogging and Social Media by Sunshine and Sippy Cups.   The board has a couple of good pins that refer to information about Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, and using Social Media to drive traffic to your site. The pins that caught my eye on her board are The Blog Guidebook and How To Make Money Blogging

Then there is Gwen’s Nest that has a great board called Webmaster Stuff.  She has pinned useful pins named How to Add Links Back To Your Blog Post, Boost Your Blog Traffic, 10 Secret Ways To Grow Your Blog and many more.

Next there is A Hen’s Nest whose board that I found and enjoyed was Blogging Tips.  This board has information relating to Blog Post, Monetizing, and Article Writing.   A few pins I enjoyed were How To Monetize in 2012 and Dynamic Pitch Letter

Lastly we have Norma Doiron who has a board called Blog Posts that has information about Building Your Blog and one not always touched on is mindset for building your online business.  The boards I checked out here were On Page SEO, Blog Posts, and Winners Find A Way To Win.

I love Pinterest because it is a visual social media.  You can share and organize all the products, books, and resources you love.  It is a way to provide information for others; sharing with your family or especially those in your niche if you are working and building your online business.  I believe you can find boards and pins on almost any subject.

What is a Podcast?

Simply put, when you serve a media file through your RSS feed (by linking to it) you are podcasting.  A podcast can be audio or video and can take on a variety of formats.

A podcast is easy to start – you already have a blog so the platform is ready.  Deciding what to podcast is probably the most challenging step.

I have always believed that Moms make great podcasters.  We’re natural relationship builders and love a good chat. Give us a topic we care about and we’ll take off with it.  I’ve helped a lot of moms start podcasts over the year – some who stuck with it and have built up a faithful audience.

If you’re trying to build a steady stream of traffic on your own, you’re in for an uphill climb. You’ll need to spend a lot of time (such as on tasks like search engine optimization), a lot of money (such as on pay per click marketing) – or both.

Fortunately, there’s an easier way to get loads of traffic very quickly – and for free. All you have to do is leverage other people’s traffic and resources. Read on to discover ten ways to get other people to send you their traffic…

1. Be a Guest Blogger

Some bloggers solicit guest articles, in which case you can create a blog post and submit it for consideration. However, even those that don’t advertise accepting guest articles may be open to the idea if you give them a reason why they should.

For example, you can:

• Trade articles with the blogger (so that they get to post an article on your blog too).

• Use the blog owner’s affiliates links in your article, so that they make money when their readers buy a product.

• Offer something else attractive in trade, such as an endorsement in your newsletter.

2. Recruit Them to Your Affiliate Program

One quick and easy way to sell more products using other peoples’ traffic is by asking them to join your affiliate program.

If you’re selling digital products, you should offer at least a 50% commission rate to affiliates, and even higher for “super affiliates” (those who can send you a lot of traffic and sales). You may even offer additional perks, such as bonuses or discounts for their customers.

Tip: You can quickly and easily set up an affiliate program for your digital products using Clickbank.com (which is also a payment processor).

3. Trade Blog Links

Instead of trading content, you can trade blog links with other people in your niche (AKA “blogrolling”).

The first benefit is that it’s visible for a long period of time, as usually these links are permanently placed on the front page of the blog.

Secondly, you can also get a search engine optimization benefit if the blog has a high Google Page Rank (and if you use your keywords as the anchor text for your link).

4. Trade Newsletter Articles

If you like the idea of trading content, then consider trading newsletter articles with other people in your niche.

Tip: Look for those who also post their newsletter issues on their blogs, as then you’ll get the benefit of a backlink and ongoing traffic!

5. Co-Promote On Your Download Pages

If you have products or services that are closely related to another marketer’s products, then you may agree to trade product links on your thank you / download pages.

Alternatively, you can ask the marketer to use his affiliate link to point to your product sales page.

Either way, this tends to be responsive traffic, since they’re customers who just bought something (and thus they’re in the buying mood).

6. Swap Links On Your Subscription Confirmation Pages

Another place you can trade links is on your newsletter subscription confirmation pages. You may even agree to trade endorsements in the welcoming emails that you send to your new subscribers.

7. Do Joint Mailings

If you ship physical products, then seek out other marketers who’re selling physical products in your niche. Then ask these people to send out a flyer advertising your products in every shipment they send, and you’ll do the same for them.

Tip: Look on eBay® to find marketers in your niche who’re selling a high volume of physical products.

8. Ask to Interview Them

The biggest marketers in your niche might not be open to some of the other suggestions we’ve talked about so far, such as content swaps (especially if you’re relatively unknown and don’t have a busy blog yet). However, they may be open to you interviewing them, perhaps on a teleseminar. And if so, then they’ll also likely help you advertise the call, which means you get free traffic.

Tip: Be sure to mention your website link on the call, because then you’ll get traffic months or years from now if you distribute the recordings.

9. Co-Write and Promote Articles

Instead of creating a recording with another marketer, you can create an article together.

Example: You can each share five niche tips. Or one of you can share the tips and the other person can write the article.

Either way, you’ll get traffic because your partner will help you distribute the content, perhaps by posting it on his blog and telling his list about it.

10. Create Rebrandable Reports

Finally, you get others to send you traffic by creating rebrandible reports (using a tool like ViralPDF.com). This is where you allow others to change the affiliate links in a report to their affiliate links, so that anyone who distributes the report has the opportunity to make money on the backend.

Summary

You don’t have to invest months of work or thousands of dollars to get traffic – not when you simply leverage other people’s traffic!

Here are just a few reasons.

Having info products to sell allows you to operate a profitable affiliate program. More than half and sometimes closer to 75% of my overall product sales come through my affiliates. They love promoting my information products because they earn 50% of the sales price. The more products I offer, the more they promote. The only way you’ll ever have a whole library of information products to sell through affiliates is to get started with one.

Ideas may run out at times but you need to look around you and catch something that may spark an interest. After all, writing is all about communicating your feelings and thoughts, whether they get published or stay within the folds of your journal. There are ways in which you can improve your writing skill, as well as catching ideas from the details of life around you.

Carry a notebook and writing material

Even if you are just an amateur writer, you can always carry a notebook around with you to capture moments and ideas. You see, we tend to forget the details if we do not write it down immediately and therefore, make a point of carrying writing material along with you. Besides, this is a good exercise for you to go over some of your previous thoughts and work upon them, whenever you get some free time.

Write things down immediately

You may be walking down the street, riding in a cab or just sitting at the park when suddenly you are hit by an idea. It might be that, you see something that sparks an idea in your mind which should be immediately noted down. Just scribble in free flowing thoughts and make notations on those thoughts, as it will give you a better clue later. You can review them once you get home and work upon the thoughts noted down. There are moments in life when suddenly you get an idea about formation of a poem, or story line but then you cannot remember later because you failed to note down.

Watch people in daily life

Make it a point to sit and watch the life around you, watch the people milling past or what they are doing. This could be while you are waiting for the bus, sitting in a cafe or just browsing around in a shopping mall. Watch how people around you are communicating with each other, how they walk or talk or even drink their coffee. Try to pick up pieces of conversation around you, laughter, noise and even people who seem sad and tired. The practice of watching people will not only give you writing ideas but will fine tune you to the world around. It can help you to be more empathic in your writing on certain topics.

Read a lot and list your topics

Read a variety of books, magazines, journals and the newspapers as these are all informative and educative vehicles that can give you ideas on various topics. They are also a good tool to challenge your thoughts on various issues and that should be a good start enough for the formation of an idea. You can also list out topics which interest you and then work on these topics on a daily basis.

As long as you keep on cultivating new ideas and improving your writing skill, you will not only be satisfied but may find yourself becoming an established writer. Do not limit yourself and always go over your work, re-writing and proofreading and improving your skill. Always keep an open mind as this way, you will learn and see new things which can only help further your writing ability.

My favorite meme to participate in is Favorite Thing Friday.  It’s a meme where we share what our favorite thing is that week of course. And who doesn’t love to talk about what makes them happy?  I know I love getting to share the things that make me happy for that week.  It’s usually my family or my children, but some people share a favorite product or a favorite teacher.  Your options are unlimited.  It’s such a fun way to get to know what other people see as favorite things.  I find it to be the perfect challenge on those weeks where nothing seems to go right to find something that’s your favorite and makes you smile.  And if you’re having trouble you’ll find some inspiration in the other bloggers who are participating in Favorite Thing Friday.  It’s the perfect way to end a difficult week or even a great week!

Three Memes that I like are : the Ryan Gosling Hey Girl meme, 5 Question Friday, and Mamavation Mondays.

While I have never participated in the “Hey Girl” meme, but I do enjoying reading them when I stumble on them. I do participate in the Mamavation Mondays post weekly, which is actually considered a blog carnival – each one has a weekly theme, and you are encouraged to write about your weekly goals, past weekly accomplishments, and share any weight loss (or struggles) you had the past week. This is great for me because it keeps me accountable, plus it is a fantastic and supportive community to belong to.

I have also participated in 5 Question Friday on and off over the past year. I enjoy the questions, and it has always inspired me to write additional posts. Each week, there are 5 questions posted on Five Crooked Halos and they are about everything and anything! There isn’t really a theme to the questions, which I enjoy. Sometimes I find that it is easy to answer all 5, and sometimes I can only answer a few.

Oh, and I do love me some Wordless (or semi-wordless) Wednesday!

I haven’t participated in very many memes, but as a blogger that struggles to find time to consistently post right now, I think it may be a great way to get a consistent post in weekly. I love Monica’s favorite meme, “Favorite Thing Friday,” and will start participating this week.

My favorite that I’ve seen so far is “Steppin’ Out Saturday.” As a busy mom that works part time as a swim coach in the evenings and stays home with a toddler during the day, the times I step out in a blog-worthy outfit don’t come too often. This meme inspires me to spruce up my weekend apparel, and I really enjoy seeing the outfits other moms are stepping out in.

My favorite meme that I have actually participated in was “15 Fun Facts About Your Kids.” It was really enjoyable to sit and think of 15 things about C. I heard from family and friends that it was a cool way to read up on day-to-day things that Carter does and I loved reading about other people’s children, too.

Made U Look Thursdays. This is a very cute meme for those crafty types! I haven’t submitted anything I have personally made but I love looking at the items others have made, like a lace painted table. So many great ideas in one places really offers some inspiration for future projects and you may even get featured! Kim Purvis from Made in A Day – DIY Crafts, hosts this weekly craft link-up party and then chooses a few favorite submissions to feature on her own . If you are featured, she of course links back to you as the creator so why not submit your favorite craft and get some link love at the same time?

Chacoy of Living In La La Land says…

While I haven’t participated in a lot of meme’s I have come across one that I absolutely can not resist, Monday Mingle. Monday Mingle is hosted by Eighty MPH Mom it’s held on Monday’s but is usually posted on Sunday by 3:00 pm.

Monday Mingle is a little different because it is a vlog meme. If you’ve never heard about vlogging, it is blogging but on video hence the name vlog! With Monday Mingle, you’re given 3 questions that you answer in a vlog post.

This might not sound very fun to people who do not like to be in front of the camera but I have to say that it is a lot of fun! What makes it fun? The questions, the questions vary from how do you say it? i.e. your given words to say, like pecan you then get your pretty face on camera and say pecan. Some people elaborate a bit on how they have heard it said, why they say it the way they do. Everyone says it differently and it’s a blast to see how people say or pronounce something when they are from another state!
This weeks Monday Mingle questions:
1. What is the sickest you’ve ever been?
2. What is your favorite knock-knock joke?
3. What do you order when you have Chinese food?

I’ve heard lots of good things about Seth Godin this and Seth Godin that. So I found Small Is the New Big in the library and checked it out. Boy am I glad that I didn’t pay for it. I only read the first third of it. It’s a collection of blog posts – I guess, and they did not inspire me. I think that was what they were supposed to do. I didn’t learn anything new and a lot of references seemed out of date.

I thought, “It’s probably just me. So many people have recommended him that I must be missing something.” So I checked out The Dip: A Little Book That Teaches You When to Quit (and When to Stick); the copy made it sound like it would be encouraging. This one was a bit better and I did finish it. It’s also 1/5 the size of Small is the New Big so that helped.

The Dip has some good points. Nothing new to me, but good to remember. However, I didn’t see anything rave worthy. And the illustrations just baffled me. Really? Stick figures my children could draw?

The main takeaway is that you need to figure out when you have enough passion and skill to succeed. If you do then push through the dip and make it to the successful side; if you don’t then it’s ok to walk away and try something you do have the passion and skill for. The people that succeed are the ones that know when they should keep going, striving, working and when they should give up or walk away from a project.

Should I give Seth Godin one more try? The old 3 strikes and you’re out kind of deal? Do all those people that recommend him just come from a different mindset than me? Or do they just recommend him because a tastemaker/trendsetter recommended him?

To find those awesome WordPress themes, one of your first stops should be the official WordPress Themes directory. These are free to use and many of them have no plug-in requirements.

You can also sign up for blogger forums and message boards or affiliate marketer message boards. These boards and forums are chock full of information from other bloggers who’ve “been there, done that”. Sometimes, you’ll luck out and find designers who enjoy building themes and sharing them on message boards and forums. With a little time, you’ll find other moms who blog and learn from them. Before long, you’ll be sharing your tips and tricks on life as a mom blogger.

If you dig around some, you’ll also find blogs that have set themselves up for the primary purpose of helping you find free blog templates and those perfect free WordPress themes for mom. Use these features to your advantage and search through hundreds of thousands of free themes until you find exactly what you’re looking for.

Getting a little more technical here, remember that when you’re using a self-hosted WordPress script for your content management system (CMS) of the site, you can further tailor the look of your blog by using free WordPress themes. Many of them also allow you to adjust and change the codes to modify color, spacing, widgets and more.

Once you’ve found a free template that you want to use, you’ll download it to your computer and then upload it to your WordPress themes directory using an FTP client uploader. After you’ve uploaded your new theme, log in to your WordPress admin panel, go to the side menu and choose “themes”. You should see the new theme you just uploaded here in listed there. Choose that theme (or whatever theme you want), click on “Activate” and you now have a new WordPress theme for Mom.

Enjoy your new adventure as a mom blogger and remember, laugh at yourself, love on your kids, kiss your hubby (if you have one!), and have at least a little fun every day. There’s a whole world out there waiting to hear from you!

Consolidate

Consolidating similar topics into a short report or eBook and then selling it to your readers is one way you can turn blog content into cash. For example, let’s say you did a series of posts on making ornaments for Advent. You wrote 25 posts with 25 patterns. Now, just take those 25 posts and put them into one document and you can sell the entire series on your blog.

Re-purpose

Re-purposing content is an easy way to reuse your blog content. Did you host a linky or other social blog gathering? Get permission from the participants and bundle all of the posts into an eBook. For example, Kathryn of Crochet Concupiscence held her first Hook’n Up event in July 2011. Thirty bloggers participated and introduced each other to new blogs.

She could take those blog posts with the participating blogger’s permission and make an eBook and then give it away to newsletter subscribers or sell it to fund her current crochet designer’s book project.

Kathryn is also participating in a 365 ways to wear crochet project this year. Each day she wears crochet and photographs herself. At the end of the series she could bundle all the photos into a slide show or even a book and sell the finished product.

Record

Audio and video are additional ways to turn your blog content into cash. You could host a webinar on hobby blogging or owning a handmade business. Did you blog about your latest published pattern? Host a webinar or teleclass, record it, and then sell it as a digital download along with a call guide or frequently asked question s sheet.

Reviewing products via video is another way to turn your blog content into cash. Just take your review posts and record yourself using the product and post it to Youtube. Make sure you opt-in to the revenue sharing with Google Ads and earn from people who view your videos. If you create an original pattern from the product, i.e. yarn, you can sell the video tutorial to your readers.

Interviews

Interviewing a blogger or designer can be another way to earn cash with your blog content. Transcribe the interview if it was recorded and add it as a bonus in your next pattern or eBook release. You can even host a podcast featuring various bloggers, designers, or yarn companies – charge for sponsoring a podcast.

Screencast

Do you know how to use a particular site? Did you use screen shots to feature various Treasuries on Etsy or when explaining something useful to the crochet blogging community? Record screencasts using Camtasia or Jing and then sell these. For example, if you are good at making charted patterns and have found a way to make them with or without software, record yourself and then sell this as a digital product.

There are certainly many more ways you can turn your crochet blog content into cash but these should get you started. One obvious way that I didn’t mention was to bundle your crochet pattern posts into an eBook with more detailed photos and/or video tutorials. Now all you need to know is how to find the experts that will compliment your mom blog and create an inspiring interview that your readers will want to pass along to others.
