If you have browsed my YouTube channel, you would have noticed that the majority of videos are based on what’s happening on the computer screen.
Screen casts or screen capture videos are all about recording your computer screen.

I use Camtasia to capture and record the screen. It’s really easy to learn and use.

Here are a few video types you can create with this approach.

How To or demo type of videos
You show viewers exactly how it something works or give instructions on how to do a particular task.

The video I did on How To Add a YouTube Subscriber Widget to a WordPress blog is a good example. Here, I showed exact steps by giving “live” details. This makes it easy for viewer to apprehend.

So if you have a product, you can use these types of videos to educated your customer base on how to use the product. This makes it easy for them to learn.

Presentations
It’s something similar to university lectures. You create a set of slides and then add voice to it. The trick here is to create good slides to keep the video viewers engaged.

Here’s an example from my YouTube channel.

2. Create Videos with Pictures and Music

This is the most simplest form. You don’t even need to add your voice!
If you have a product to promote these types of videos are good.

3. Video scribing/White board animation

These types of videos mimic someone writing on a white board.
You can use these effects to create explanatory videos and introduction videos.

3. I wrote a very good description for each video.

4. I responded to questions in the comments area, providing useful answers.

5. I did comprehensive keyword research to ensure that my videos stood out and would not be lost in the crowd. I wanted to make sure that my niche audience found them.

6. I continued the conversation by adding links back to my website.

7. I developed a series of videos around a theme and posted them on a regular schedule.

1. Create a comprehensive campaign.
Rather than hoping for a one-hit wonder– a single video that will go viral–it is much better to create an entire series. This is something that you should plan ahead of time instead of inventing ideas as you go along.

2. Teach don’t sell.
People go to YouTube to either be educated or entertained. If you can do both, then your videos will be very appealing. Visit forums in your niche and find out what people are asking, research the answers, and create a series of video tutorials.

3. Learn from feedback.

The overall quality of the video plays a huge part in how long a person watches the video. It’s even more important now since YouTube video ranking algorithms have been updated to consider the audience retention rate. In other words, YouTube ranking algorithm now looks at how long someone watched the video before exiting.

Here are a couple of simple tips that you can do to improve the YouTube video sound quality.

1. Eliminate any background noise

Record in a place (or during a time) there’s less noise!
If you have kids or live close a busy highway etc it can be a handful to deal with. So choosing a quiet location and time is by far the easiest, if you don’t want to use technology to remove noise.

Edit the recording and remove the noise
I use audacity, a free software to exact the noise and make the video sound quality better. It doesn’t take much time and you don’t even need any technical expertise.

Use a good microphone
Needless to mention I know! But a lot people tend to ignore this.

2. Keep the microphone away from the nose!

Have you ever watched a YouTube video where you heard the heavy breathing sound ? That really puts viewers off!

For this too, you can edit the sound after recording, but as a best practice keep the microphone at a healthy distance from the nose.

3. Speak slowly and clearly

Some people by nature speak fairly fast. If you are one of those people, then you need to adjust to speak slowly so that other can understand what you say.

4. Mind your Ps and Ss!

Stand in front of a mirror and say Popcorn. Does the p pop out?
What about seashell? Do you hear the “sh..” linger along?

You can prevent this by using a pop filter. It’s a piece of acoustically transparent material that blocks those noises from hitting your microphone.

5. Buy a better microphone

Most people use the in-built microphone of the laptop or use a cheep mic that comes with the headphones to record YouTube videos. If you are serious about making professional videos and would like to grow your YouTube audience, you really should invest on a good microphone.

In other words, getting your video ranked on the first page for a given page is easier than trying to your webpage for that particular keyword.

Furthermore, the click through rate on the search result is also higher if you have a video thumbnail next to the search results.

I can relate my own experience and say that I tend to click through more videos than a normal search results. Some videos have a compelling thumbnail that make you want to know what it’s all about!

1. Get your video indexed by Google

Google should know about your video. The easiest way to make it known is to upload your video to YouTube. This alone doesn’t guarantee your video will be on the first-page result, but at least it ensures that Google knows about your video.

2. Optimize your video for search engines

Go through the pre-upload video search engine optimization check-list to make sure that you “prepare” your video. This means, finding a good keyword for your video, including it in the video title, description, tags etc.

3. Increase YouTube engagement factors

A few years ago, it was sufficient just to add keywords in title etc and the video displayed next to search results. However, starting mid 2012, there are a new set of attributes that affect video ranking. Things like number of comments, the likes, how many shares, how long a user watches the video etc all contribute towards ranking your video higher.

So make sure to put in some extra effort and increase YouTube engagement factors.

1. Create a dedicated YouTube channel for your business

Don’t mix personal and business videos. On occasion it’s ok to to show to be personable in the videos that you upload. However, try not mix your personal channel where you have videos of your cat and dog with your business video.

When people subscribe to your business channel they are more likely to be interested in the business aspect, as a result you might lose subscribers if most of your videos are non business related.

So keep in mind that subscribers for business are different from personal. By all means, it’s ok to have a personal videos. Just create a separate YouTube Channel for those.

2. Get your business YouTube channel name right

Make sure that the name you get for your channel is fairly short, memorable and relevant to your business.

3. Optimize the profile description of the YouTube Channel

Include a overview of what the channel is about and inform your video audience about the channel.
What sort of videos can they can expect to find, what is your business etc

4. Add links to related your business

You can link to your business home page, product page and even a blog.
The image shown alongside the name of the page is extracted from the fav icon on the website. So make sure to include a your business logo or something relevant to your business.

5. Link your social media profiles

YouTube allows you to add a Twitter, Facebook and Google+ links to your YouTube channel. So go head and link up your business social media profiles to YouTube.

6. Make the YouTube channel branding consistent with your business

Don’t just leave the default YouTube background. Add a customized background and make sure the colors of the channel blend in with the the overall branding strategy of your business website.

2. People like People who are helpful.
Write down about 10 problems that people in your niche might face.
Then create a video for each of those problems with solutions. Suggestion what they can do to overcome such issues. Be as helpful as possible.

Get people to TRUST you, your business and the product you off using YouTube

Get people to trust you as an expert.

1. You can get this done by demonstrating the knowledge that you have.
Display your knowledge through YouTube videos. When a someone watches such video they should be convinced that you are an expert in that particular areas, that you know what you are doing and saying.

2. Get endorsements from others which will vouch for your credibility.
For example, if you want to buy a book, you might look at some of the comments that are left by others. If the majority say that it’s a crappy book, then it will definitely make you think twice about buying that book. But on the other hand if the book has a lot of good reviews from a lot of people, then the chances are that you might not have any doubt at all!
So the same principle applies here.

Upload testimonial by users who have used your product.

Get the industry experts in your niche to give you a testimonials through video. This will no doubt increase credibility.

There are 3 approaches people use when choosing a YouTube channel name,

1. Use your personal name

Some people prefer to use their own name as the YouTube Channel name.
For example if you name is john doe, then the channel name can be JohnDoe (if the name is available)

This approach works best if you are popular and have a unique name!
For example, if you are a singer and plan on growing your name having a personal name works well.

2. Business name as the YouTube Channel name

You can keep your channel name consistent by using the same name as your business name.

There are 2 things that might restrict you from doing this

1. YouTube Channel name length
If your business name is longer that the maximum length allowed by YouTube then you won’t be able to use the exact name.

2. YouTube channel name availability
If someone else has already created a channel name based on your business name, you won’t be able ot use the same name.

Another option is to use the business domain URL as the channel name.

3. Choose a keyword rich name

Having a keyword rich channel name will enable your channel and videos to be ranked well within the YouTube search engine.

For example, if your company business name is “star enterprise” and it’s about providing limousine services within New York, you can name your channel as “NewYorkLimousineService”

This increase the chances of your channel/videos showing up on the first page of YouTube/Google search, if a customer searches for “NewYork Limousine Service”.

Note: Having just the name is only the foundation for proper video optimization, there is a still more to be done to get your video ranked.

For example if you type, Promote Online Videos (which is my channel name), the channel is listed in the first page of Google results page. (at the time of writing this post!)

Once you decide whether you want to have your own name, business name or keyword rich channel name, there are still a few more things you need to consider.

Rule of thumb tips for a good YouTube Channel Name

1. Pick a memorable YouTube channel name

If you make the YouTube channel name, easy to remember, you can get more subscribers and views to your video

For example, if you have “hjhyeret” as the channel name, it’s going to be difficult to say out loud and even more difficult for people to remember!

2. Avoid using numbers

I would also advice for you, not to include numbers.
For example, have a name such as “starenterprise3241″ is not at all wise.

In a radio commercial, podcast or may be even within your own YouTube videos, you might have to mention the channel name “out loud”.
If you have a YouTube channel name that can’t be easily pronounced or mentioned without confusion (e.g 1 or one), it’s going to be difficult for you as well as your audience.

From my own experience, I can say that doing this the first time is a bit difficult. When creating the second video though, it became much easier and the time it took to create the video scribing video was also about half!

So far I’ve created about 4 videos of this nature and I plan to create more! It’s easy once you get the hang of it. The trick is to create many videos. You might not want to upload all of those. But the more you create, the better you will become of creating video scribing videos.

How did the business get started ? How did you become who you are?
Why should customers buy from you?

2. Highlight a problem that your product solves
Various studies have proven that if a video can “prove” that it solves a particular problem a customer has, the likelihood of the viewer buying the product is higher than just creating a normal video.

Using video scribing to illustrate the problem is a good way to make the people aware of the problem.

3. Introduce your product or service
Come up with a storyboard for your product. How can you convey your product or service using the video scribing technique?
Jot down a few ideas on paper first and see how it fits with the overall video marketing campaign.

4. Create educational illustrations that are applicable for your target audience/customer
How can you educated your target audience about your niche? What information would they find value in?
