CuBox-i4Pro has been unveiled by SolidRun, which is an Israeli startup and first came up with CuBox back in 2013. It is quite similar to Rasberry Pi and Arduino boards – comes with mini computers merged onto a single board. Apart from packing quite a punch, it also comes with affordable price and that’s us being really modest.

It measures 55 mm and is equipped with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. It sports a 4GB micro SD card loaded with Android while also being capable of running Debian Linux. It has been built with a Freescale i.MX6 Quad core System on a Chip (SoC) and features 2GB of RAM (64bit @ 1066Mbps). There is also a Vivante GC2000 graphics processor and a real time clock with backup battery. Although the device can be used as an Android machine, it can also be used as a general purpose Linux host either without or with external storage or you can run the open source media player, XBMC.

Microsoft's Windows 10 event is just getting started, and it sounds like the company is eager to make it as easy and cheap as possible for those running older versions of Windows to upgrade. Terry Myerson just announced on stage that, for the first year after Windows 10 launches, any device running Windows 7, Windows 8.1, or Windows Phone 8.1 will be able to upgrade to the latest version of MIcrosoft's OS — for free. How exactly this program will work isn't clear just yet — it'll certainly be subject to some hardware requirements, particularly for older machines running Windows 7. But a simplified upgrade path will likely do a lot to help Windows 10 adoption — rather than dealing with a number of different versions of Windows and different upgrade costs, most consumers will simply take this free update and enjoy running Microsoft's latest.
Beyond this, Myerson shared Microsoft's vision for Windows as a service, not just an operating system. A big part of that is Microsoft's new commitment to keep devices consistently updated throughout the "supported lifetime for the device." It sounds like that means those upgrading from Microsoft's older versions of Windows will consistently receive updates to keep it as up-to-date as possible. Myerson noted that this will let developer "target every single Windows device" when they build apps — anything that makes it easier for developers to reach more users will certainly be appreciated by both the developer community as well as end users.

Setting Up DNS Server On CentOS 7

DNS, stands for Domain Name System, translates hostnames or URLs into IP addresses. For example, if we type www.unixmen.com in browser, the DNS server translates the domain name into its associated ip address. Since the IP addresses are hard to remember all time, DNS servers are used to translate the hostnames like www.unixmen.com to 173.xxx.xx.xxx. So it makes easy to remember the domain names instead of its IP address.

This detailed tutorial will help you to set up a local DNS server on your CentOS 7 system. However, the steps are applicable for setting up DNS server on RHEL and Scientific Linux 7 too.

DNS Server Installation

Scenario

For the purpose of this tutorial, I will be using three nodes. One will be acting as Master DNS server, the second system will be acting as Secondary DNS, and the third will be our DNS client. Here are my three systems details.

Primary (Master) DNS Server Details:

Operating System     : CentOS 7 minimal server
Hostname             : masterdns.unixmen.local
IP Address           : 192.168.1.101/24

Secondary (Slave) DNS Server Details:

Operating System     : CentOS 7 minimal server
Hostname             : secondarydns.unixmen.local
IP Address           : 192.168.1.102/24

Client Details:

Operating System     : CentOS 6.5 Desktop  
Hostname             : client.unixmen.local
IP Address           : 192.168.1.103/24

Setup Primary (Master) DNS Server

Install bind9 packages on your server.

yum install bind bind-utils -y

1. Configure DNS Server

Edit ‘/etc/named.conf’ file.

vi /etc/named.conf

Add the lines as shown in bold:

6. Configuring Permissions, Ownership, and SELinux

Run the following commands one by one:

chgrp named -R /var/named
chown -v root:named /etc/named.conf
restorecon -rv /var/named
restorecon /etc/named.conf

7. Test DNS configuration and zone files for any syntax errors

Check DNS default configuration file:

named-checkconf /etc/named.conf

If it returns nothing, your configuration file is valid.

Check Forward zone:

named-checkzone unixmen.local /var/named/forward.unixmen

Long-Term Strategies

We've all been there. You're in a meeting, or on the road, or in a classroom, and you find, to your horror, that your laptop is nearly dead. Maybe you forgot your power adapter, maybe there isn't an available outlet. For whatever reason, your battery power is dwindling, and you still have stuff to get done. Hope is not lost, however. There are some things you can do to buy more time on that almost-dead battery so you can meet a deadline or respond to an important email before it's too late.
Some of these techniques are for when you need to stretch your battery at that very moment, while others are preventative measures, best implemented before your battery life comes up short. There is some of overlap between the short- and long-term strategies we'll outline below, but even when the actions are the same, the reasons behind it may be different.
Short-Term Battery-Stretching Strategies
If you're in a tough spot right now, there are things you can do to extend the battery life immediately. None of these actions will actually increase the amount of power left in the battery, but instead will reduce the amount of power the laptop is using, letting you squeeze in a few more precious minutes before the battery goes kaput. The name of the game in these instances is power consumption, and you need to reduce yours to as little as possible.
1. Activate Your Laptop's Battery Saver Mode or Eco Mode
Designed with these sorts of circumstances in mind, most Battery-Saver or Eco modes will engage a number of automatic changes to lengthen usable battery life—many of the same changes we'll be making here. This saved profile will adjust your laptop's settings and shift components into low-power states to help you ration your remaining juice a bit longer.
Once you've turned on the automatic battery-saver tool, there are still plenty of steps to take to eke out even better efficiency. This is done by turning off unnecessary devices, adjusting settings to reduce power consumption, shutting down unwanted apps and processes, and adjusting your activities to use less power.
2. Disable Unused Devices and Ports
The easiest way to reduce power consumption is to simply turn stuff off. Every component in your laptop needs power to function, but that doesn't mean you need to power all of those components all the time. Start by disconnecting any unneeded peripherals (like a USB mouse or external drive) and turning off the biggest power hogs, like Wi-Fi and Bluetooth radios, graphics processors, and unused optical drives.
WARNING: Before disabling any component or device, stop and make sure that this device is not in use, and that it is not essential to continuing operation of the laptop. For example, you DO NOT want to disable the hard drive that houses the operating system, or the processor the runs the entire laptop. Only disable those devices you are comfortable turning off.
To disable unused devices on a Windows system, open up your system's Control Panel and find the Device Manager. In the Device Manager, individual components are grouped by category. For example, Network Adapters will often include both the LAN adapter, which provides Ethernet connectivity, and Wi-Fi, for wireless networking.

The four standard candidates for saving power are the graphics card (found under Display Adapters), the optical drive (found under DVD/CD-ROM Drives), and the Ethernet and Wi-Fi adapters (under Network Adapters). Find the device you want to shut down within the relevant category. Right click on the device name, and select "Disable" from the drop down menu.
While you're in the Device Manager, you can also turn off any unused ports. Just like an extension cord left plugged into an outlet, these unused plugs still have power going through them, and losing some in the process. The actual impact on battery life will be minimal, but if you need to eke out another minute or two of life, this will help. Take a quick glance at your ports, and turn off anything that's not being used, like USB ports with nothing connected to them.
While you can disable USB ports on a Mac using the terminal program, it's something that IT administrators would use to lock down Macs for security purposes. We don't recommend doing it as an end user because it may make your system act up. You can, however, disable Bluetooth and Wi-Fi from the Menu bar at the top of the screen.
3. Adjust Your Settings
While you'll still have to use the display and the keyboard, you can adjust the settings for each to reduce power consumption. One often overlooked power drain is keyboard backlighting. Unless you're in the dark, and need the backlight just to make out each key, turn the backlight off entirely. You can typically assign a hotkey for this function.
The next power drain is your screen. While you need to keep the up and running to use the laptop, you don't necessarily need it running at 100-percent brightness or full resolution. Many laptops will have hotkeys for increasing and decreasing the screen brightness, but if not, it can be adjusted in the control panel. Reducing the display to 50 percent when you're running on battery power can add a significant amount of time.
Additionally, if you're simply typing up a document, you don't need all of the detail offered by a 1080p or higher display. Dialing down the screen resolution to a basic 1,366-by-768 resolution or lower reduces the amount of power used in graphics processing without negatively impacting your ability to work, letting your laptop a bit longer than at full resolution.
Finally, turn off or turn down the sound. If you need to hear, drop the sound down as low as you can, and consider switching from the laptop's larger speakers to a set of tiny earbuds to get the audio piped right to your ears. Whenever possible, just mute the laptop altogether. That way, the speakers won't be getting any power, and you'll buy yourself some more precious time.
4. Turn Off Apps and Processes
It's not just the hardware that's stealing your battery juice. Multiple apps and processes running on your system will also chew through battery life more quickly. As with the hardware, start by turning off anything that isn't being used.
In Windows, start by taking a look in your System Tray, the collection of icons in the lower right corner of the desktop, next to the clock. On the left end of the System Tray, select the icon to display hidden icons. Take note of which apps are running in the background.
Open up the Task Manager by pressing Ctrl+Shift+Esc, or use Ctrl+Alt+Del and select Task Manager from the menu. Once in the Task Manager, look at the open apps—you may find that a program or two have been left running simply because you forgot to close a window instead of minimizing it.
Next, go to the Processes tab. This shows you what processes are currently running on your machine. While some of these are needed, some, like those associated with music and video players or cloud storage services (like Dropbox or Google Drive) can be disabled without causing any problems.
For MacBooks, the process is a little different. Take a look at System Preferences > Users&Groups for a menu called Login Items. Delete any power-hungry programs that you don't need anymore, or disable things like Google Chrome's automatic launch at startup. You can also see programs that are using a lot of power at any given moment by holding down the Option key, then clicking on the battery indicator in the Menu bar. Alternately, you can open the Activity Monitor utility to see a list of all the programs and processes you currently have open , and which of these are using the most power. You can stop these processes by selecting the program and then clicking the Stop icon. Power Nap is an Apple OS X feature that checks your email and twitter feeds for activity while the system is asleep. If you are trying to maximize battery life, it would be wise to turn that feature off.
5. Simplify
You can also stretch your battery life by simplifying your own activities. Multitasking is nice when you have full power, but running several programs at once puts a greater load on the processor and draws more power. Adjust your computer use by sticking to one application at a time and avoiding resource-intensive programs.
Start by single-tasking—if you need to type up a document, close any additional programs. You'll get longer battery life by not running Spotify in the background. If you need to keep some tunes going, switch from streaming media to locally stored songs—you'll still be using some extra power to play them, but streaming media over Wi-Fi also uses the laptop's wireless radio.
You might also benefit from switching to simpler tools for the same tasks, like opting for a simple text file instead of a Word document. With fewer features and none of Word's automatic actions (like Spell Check and Autosave), you can do all the writing you need without using quite so much power. Some activities you'll want to avoid entirely, like photo and video editing tools, which place a significant load on the processor and graphics card, and are real power hogs.
By eliminating unnecessary power uses, you should be able to extend the life of your battery in those moments that you find yourself high and dry.

Long-Term Strategies
These tweaks will help turn your system into a lean, mean energy-efficient machine, adding to both the useful time you get out of a single charge, and extending the overall lifespan of the battery.
6. Care and Feeding of Batteries
It starts with taking care of the battery itself. If your system has a removable battery, take care not to damage the battery contacts—they connect the laptop to the battery, and if the contacts get dirty or damaged, it can reduce and disrupt the flow of power. You can clean the contacts off with a cotton swab and rubbing alcohol, but damaged contacts might need to be professionally repaired. This doesn't apply to laptops that seal the battery into the chassis.
You may have heard old tips about charging your battery to only 80 percent, and not leaving it on the charger all the time, but most of that advice is outdated, and applies to older nickel metal hydride batteries but not the lithium-ion and lithium-polymer batteries used today. While modern laptop batteries don't require you to be as conscientious about how and when you charge your battery, you should occasionally take the opportunity to let the battery drain completely through normal use.
Finally, keep things cool. Heat will shorten the long-term life of the battery, so take steps to provide optimal airflow and cooling. The biggest problems come from physical obstruction of the ventilation ports. Dust buildup is one problem, which you can take care of by cleaning the laptop's vents and fan. A can of compressed air can be used to blow out some of the dust. The more frequent issue that crops up is using the laptop on a pillow or blanket, which can both obstruct the ventilation fan and retain the heat coming off of the system. This can be avoided by only using your laptop on surfaces like a table or desk, and a lapdesk will make a big difference when using a laptop in bed.
7. Tune-Up
The next step is keep your laptop tuned up for more efficient use of power. A few simple maintenance tasks and upgrades will not only help your battery last longer, but they will also result in a faster system overall.
For starters, regularly defragment your hard drive to make data retrieval more efficient. (Note: DO NOT try to defrag a solid-state drive, as it will reduce the usable life the drive.) An active drive uses more energy that an idle one, and defragging your hard drive reduces the amount of active drive time needed to access data. Over time, as you add and remove files from your system, data is haphazardly recorded to the hard drive, scattered in different portions of the drive. This disorderly (or fragmented) data, requires additional time and energy to access that information in the course of regular use. Defragmenting your drive is the digital equivalent of organizing your cupboards, making everything a bit tidier and easier to find. Windows 7 amd Windows 8 both have automatic tools that defragment your drive on a regular basis, but you should at least check to be sure that this is enabled and running properly.
Decluttering your drive will also make it more efficient. Practice good computer hygiene and regularly remove unwanted programs, clean out cobwebbed files, and ditch any excess bloatware that came with your system. Your cleanup should also include cleaning out the cache on your Web browser and deleting all of the old files from your downloads folder.

8. Upgrade Components
Another option is to ditch the hard drive entirely, and upgrade to a solid-state drive (SSD). Solid-state drives use flash memory instead of a spinning disk, so there are no moving parts, automatically offering more energy efficiency. It also removes the problems associated with fragmentation, which is a larger problem with hard drives. Upgrading to an SSD will both improve your battery life, and put some pep in your system, as SSDs offer faster performance and boot times than their traditional counterparts.
Finally, add some more RAM to your system. RAM stores data for short term use in flash modules, much like an SSD. The more data that can be put into RAM, the less reliant the system will be on pulling that data afresh from the hard drive. Again, reducing hard drive activity reduces the power consumption, but like an SSD upgrade, adding RAM also has performance benefits that you will notice immediately.
9. Battery Backup
Finally, the easiest way to ensure that you always have enough battery power is to bring along an extra; either a spare battery or an external battery pack. For laptops with a removable battery, the simplest option is a second battery. These can either be ordered directly from the manufacturer, or purchased from a third-party company, usually for less than $100. Simply swap the old battery for the new once in a while when charging, and bring along the charged-up spare whenever you expect to be away from a power outlet.
Another, similar option is to buy an external power pack. While it is also technically a battery, these external power sources plug into your laptop just like your charger does. They generally cost between $100 and $200, but come with adapters for use with many different laptop models, and can be reused on more than one system, and even for other devices, like your phone or tablet.

How to Backup/Restore a Windows 2003 Domain Controller

trackback A couple years back, I was working for a rather large company with hundreds of sites in about 50 different countries that were all linked by a single global network… except for 4 or 5 data center sites that were called “solution centers”. I worked at one of these special sites. The purpose of the solution centers was to house whatever services a customer company required us to while keeping it separate for our company’s global network. As we were not part of the global network, we were considered the black sheep of the company… and I was the lone systems engineer responsible for keeping the servers at my site running. No bother… I do my best work when I’m left to my own devices.
However, this did present many additional complications that others in my company did not have to contend with. The largest challenge to overcome was our site’s disaster recovery plan. We could not just assume to relocate to a new site because we would need to recover our own environment, which included our own domain.
Yes, I know… I could have just housed one of our domain controllers at another location and established a special VPN just for the communications between the DC’s. That would be a valid solution, but just not good enough. During a DR event, that would place me very dependent upon the IT staff at that other location… and call me crazy, but I want to be able to ensure that I would be able to perform the recovery 100% without the assistance of anyone else.
I spent a lot of time reading over Microsoft white papers and procedures written by various individuals, throwing ideas around with colleagues, and plucking away at ideas in an attempt to develop a procedure that would fulfill our needs. Eventually, I developed the procedure that you’ll read below… and tested it successfully on several occasions. Knowing that someone else out there is probably looking for the same thing, I figured it would be grand to share it with you.

How to Backup the Domain Controller(s)

Obviously, before you can restore your domain, you have to back it up first. :)
Mainly what we’re interested in backing up is the System State of a Domain Controller. So what is the System State?

The System State of your server includes the Registry, the Boot files, some System files, the Active Directory service, and other components. (Read more about it here.) You can not pick and choose between which components are backed up during a System State backup. It’s an all or nothing situation.
Since this includes the whole of your Registry, you have to understand that this includes the information about the original System’s installed hardware. This may complicate the restore process somewhat. If you backed the System State from DC on an HP Proliant DL380 G5 series server… and attempt to restore it on a Dell PowerEdge T100… you will most likely have issues with booting up the OS afterwards because the hardware set is significantly different.
As part of your DR plan, I recommend making a point of documenting the hostname, IP address, Operating System, Service Pack level, and the hardware make/model of each of your domain controllers. You may find this information useful when the time comes.

These instructions are going to use the hostname "DC123" as name of the domain controller, and assume that you want to run your System State backup every day at 3:00am.
Login to your domain controller, and perform the following steps:

Create a C:\Backup\ folder.
Click Start — All Programs — Accessories — System Tools — Backup.
Click [Next] — Select Backup Files and Settings — [Next].
Select Let me choose what to back up — [Next].
Expand My Computer — Check System State — [Next].
Set the location of the backup file to C:\Backup\ folder.
Set the Name of the Backup to “DC123 System State”.
Click [Next] — [Advanced] — Select Normal — [Next].
Check the Verify Data after Backup box — [Next].
Select Replace the existing backups — [Next].
Select Later — Set the Job Name to “DC123 System State”.
Click [Set Schedule] — Schedule the job to run Daily at 3:00am.
Click [OK] — Enter a set of user credentials — [OK].
Click [Next] — Enter a set of the user credentials — [OK] — [OK] — [Finish].

The actual backup job itself will probably take somewhere between 15 – 30 minutes to run. Then, you can backup the C:\Backup\ folder to tape. Personally, I had preferred to schedule another task that would launch at 4:00am to “robocopy” (which can be found as part of the Windows Server 2003 Resource Kit Tools download) each of the backup files to another server where they were all dumped to tape a few hours later.
You only really need to backup 1 domain controller for this to work, but then your pretty much locked into a single hardware set when it comes time to do the restore. Since I was never sure what kind of hardware I would have available to me when it came time to do the restores, I tried to make a practice of housing each domain controller on a different model of server… and backing each of them up individually. Each backup ran me somewhere between 600 – 800 MB of disk space (which is rather a small pittance by today’s standards).

Yes, this was probably a significant amount of overkill on my part. However, I find that the more paranoid you are, the better prepared you tend to find yourself. And I tend to be rather paranoid about things like DR.

How to Restore the Domain Controller(s)

Now let’s pretend that a disaster has struck!
You’ve retrieved your tapes from off-site storage and acquired your target hardware, so let’s get to work! (Remember that matching the hardware to the DC restore would be best, but you can make substitutions. It’s not an exact science, so some experimentation may be required.)

Note: These instructions are written with a few assumptions in mind.

We assume that your entire domain has been leveled by some catastrophic event.

We assume that your domain controllers are running a Windows 2003 operating system.

We assume that whomever is doing the work knows the login credentials (from the original domain) to the domain’s Administrator account or a user account that is a member of both the domain’s "Domain Admins" and "Schema Admins" groups.

Build a stand-alone Windows 2003 server, and bring it up to the same Service Pack level as the original DC.
Name the server with the same hostname as your original DC.
Restore your System State backup files from tape, and copy them to the new server’s local hard disk.
Reboot the server.
After POST, hit [F8] and select to boot into “Directory Services Restore Mode (Windows domain controllers only)”.
Click Start — All Programs — Accessories — System Tools — Backup.
Click [Next] — Select Restore files and settings — [Next] — Browse to the location of the backup file — [Next].
Expand File – System State Backup — Check the System State box — [Next].
Click [Advanced] — Select Original Location — [Next] — [OK] — Select Leave existing files (Recommended) — [Next].
Check the boxes for: * Restore Security Settings
* Restore junction points, but not the folder and file data
* Preserve existing volume mount points
* When restoring replicated data sets, mark the restored data as the primary data for all replicas
Click [Next] — [Finish].
After the restore is completed, click [Close] — [Yes] to reboot the system.

If your server hardware is significantly different from the original DC, then you may experience difficulty with the boot to the GUI. If this is the case, then you might be able to still recover the OS by booting into Safe Mode or by booting to an original Windows 2003 OS CD to perform a Repair.

Once you get into the GUI, you will need to login using the local Administrator password from the original DC.
Now you will be able to seize the FSMO roles. (Note: After each "seize" command, click [Yes] and allow 3-5 minutes for the task to complete.)

Click Start — Run — NTDSUTIL — [OK].
Type the following commands into NTDSUTIL. roles
connections
connect to server DC123
q
seize domain naming master
seize infrastructure master
seize PDC
seize RID master
seize schema master
q
q

Next, confirm that your DC is a Global Catalog server.

Launch AD Sites and Services
(C:\Windows\System32\dssite.msc)
Expand Sites – Default-First-Site-Name – Servers – DC123.
Right-click and select NTDS Settings — On the General tab, verify that the Global Catalog box is checked.
Perform a clean reboot of the system.

Now we’ll clean the old domain controllers out of the AD database.

Click Start — Run — NTDSUTIL — [OK].
Type the following commands into NTDSUTIL. metadata
cleanup connections
connect to server DC123
quit
select operation target
list domains
select domain <#>
list sites
select site <#>
list servers in site
select server <# of bad DC>
quit
remove selected server
quit
Launch Active Directory Sites and Services(C:\Windows\System32\dssite.msc).
Expand Sites – Default-First-Site-Name – Servers.
Right-click on — Select Delete.
Launch Active Directory Users and Computers (C:\Windows\System32\dsa.msc).
Expand the domain — Open the Domain Controllers container.
Right-click on — Select Delete.
Select The domain controller is permanently offline and can no longer be demoted using Active Directory Installation Wizard (DCPROMO).
Click [Delete] — [Yes] to confirm.

Your domain should now be successfully restored, but don’t consider yourself finished at this point. This restored server should be considered hinky at best, and should not be kept as a long-term solution.
Before doing anything else, I recommend that you build a 2nd “clean” domain controller alongside this restored 1st DC. Then, transfer the FSMO roles to the 2nd DC. Finally, demote the 1st DC to a member server and retire it from the domain. That will hopefully ensure that your domain is running on a clean and stable DC that you can rely upon. Then, build a new 2nd DC to ensure some redundancy.
Congratulations! Your domain is restored. Now get to work on restoring everything else. :)

Windows Server 2003 Disaster Recovery Planning (Part 1)

In this article, we will discuss what every Microsoft Windows Administrator and Engineer should think about when trying to manage their environments in the scope of planning for Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity. This is Part I in a 4 part article series where we will cover many of the details administrators and engineers need to know about planning Disaster Recovery for Windows Systems, as well as for their networks in general. In part I, we will look at Windows 2000 & Windows Server 2003 Clustering & Load Balancing for high availability, as well as general planning information.

Planning for High Availability

Windows Server Disaster Recovery Planning can be a chore, but if you have the details and a plan, it can go smooth to setup, and will be a life saver when your systems start to smoke, and your VP’s are knocking on your office door asking what the heck is going on! In this section we will look at how to plan for High Availability.
Taking the time to plan and design is the key to your success, and it’s not only the design, but also the study efforts you put in. I always joke with my administrators and tell them they’re doctors of technology. I say, “When you become a doctor, you’re expected to be a professional and maintain that professionalism by educational growth through constant learning and updating of your skills.” Many IT staff technicians think their job is 9 to 5, with no studying done after hours. I have one word for them: Wrong! You need to treat your profession as if you’re a highly trained surgeon except, instead of working on human life, you’re working on technology. And that’s how planning for High Availability solutions needs to be addressed. You can’t simply wing it and you can’t guess at it. You must be precise, otherwise, your investment goes down the drain – and all the work you put in will be not only useless, but also wasteful.

Plan Your Downtime

You need to achieve as close to 100 percent uptime as possible. You know a 100 percent uptime isn’t realistic, though, and it can never be guaranteed. Breakdowns occur because of disk crashes, power or UPS failure, application problems resulting in system crashes, or any other hardware or software malfunction. So, the next best thing is 99.999 percent, which is still somewhat reasonable with today’s technology. You can also define in a Service Level Agreement (SLA) what 99.999 percent means to both parties. If you promised 99.999 percent uptime to someone for a single year, that translates to a downtime ratio of about five to ten minutes. I would strive for a larger number, one that’s more realistic to scheduled outages and possible disaster-recovery testing performed by your staff. Go for 99.9 percent uptime, which allots for about nine to ten hours of downtime per year. This is more practical and feasible to obtain. Whether providing or receiving such a service, both sides should test planned outages to see if delivery schedules can be met. You can figure this formula by taking the amount of hours in a day (24) and multiplying it by the number of days in the year (365). This equals 8,760 hours in a year. Use the following equation: percent of uptime per year = (8,760 - number of total hours down per year) / 8,760 If you schedule eight hours of downtime per month for maintenance and outages (96 hours total), then you can say the percentage of uptime per year is 8,760 minus 96 divided by 8,760. You can see you’d wind up with about 98.9 percent uptime for your systems. This should be an easy way for you to provide an accurate accounting of your downtime. Remember, you must account for downtime accurately when you plan for high availability. Downtime can be planned or, worse, unexpected. Sources of unexpected downtime include the following:

Disk crash or failure
Power or UPS failure
Application problems resulting in system crashes
Any other hardware or software malfunction

Building the Highly Available Solutions’ Plan

Let’s look at the plan to use a Highly Available design in your organization and review the many questions you need to ask before implementing it ‘live’. Remember, if the server is down, people can’t work, and millions of dollars can be lost within hours. The following is a list of what could happen in sequence:

A company uses a server to access an application that accepts orders and does transactions.
The application, when it runs, serves not only the sales staff, but also three other companies who do business-to-business (B2B) transactions. The estimate is, within one hour’s time, the peak money made exceeded 2.5 million dollars.
The server crashes and you don’t have a Highly Availability solution in place. This means no failover, redundancy, or load balancing exists at all. It simply fails.
It takes you (the systems engineer) 5 minutes to be paged, but about 15 minutes to get onsite. You then take 40 minutes to troubleshoot and resolve the problem.
The company’s server is brought back online and connections are reestablished.

Everything appears functional again. The problem was simple this time—a simple application glitch that caused a service to stop and, once restarted, everything was okay. Now, the problem with this whole scenario is this: although it was a true disaster, it was also a simple one. The systems engineer happened to be nearby and was able to diagnose the problem quite quickly. Even better, the problem was a simple fix. This easy problem still took the companies’ shared application down for at least one hour and, if this had been a peak-time period, over 2 million dollars could have been lost. They want to become aware, so the possibility of 2 million in sales evaporating never occurs again. Worse still, the companies you connect to and your own clientele start to lose faith in your ability to serve them. This could also cost you revenue and the possibility of acquiring new clients moving forward. People talk and the uneducated could take this small glitch as a major problem with your company’s people, instead of the technology. Let’s look at this scenario again, except with a Highly Available solution in place:

Customers are unaffected. Business resumes as normal. Nothing is lost and no downtime is accumulated.
The ‘one hour’ you saved your business in downtime just paid for the entire Highly Available solution you implemented.

Human Resources and Highly Available Solutions

Human Resources (people) need to be trained and work on site to deal with a disaster. They also need to know how to work under fire. As a former United States Marine, I know about the “fog of war,” where you find yourself tired, disoriented, and probably unfocused on the job. These characteristics don’t help your response time with management. In any organization, especially with a system as complex as one that’s highly available, you need the right people to run it.

Managing Your Services

In this section, you see all the factors to consider while designing a Highly Available solution. The following is a list of the main services to remember:
• Service Management is the management of the true components of Highly
Available solutions: the people, the process in place, and the technology needed to create the solution. Keeping this balance to have a truly viable solution is important. Service Management includes the design and deployment phases.

Change Management is crucial to the ongoing success of the solution during the production phase. This type of management is used to monitor and log changes on the system.
Problem Management addresses the process for Help Desks and Server monitoring.
Security Management as discussed in Chapter 7, is tasked to prevent unauthorized penetrations of the system.
Performance Management is discussed in greater detail in this chapter. This type of management addresses the overall performance of the service, availability, and reliability. Other main services also exist, but the most important ones are highlighted here. Service management is crucial to the development of your Highly Available solution. You must cater to your customer’s demands for uptime. If you promise it, you better deliver it.

Highly Available System Assessment Ideas

The following is a list of items for you to use during the postproduction-planning phase. Make sure you covered all your bases with this list:

Now that you have your solution configured, document it! A lack of documentation will surely spell disaster for you. Documentation isn’t difficult to do, it’s simply tedious, but all that work will pay off in the end if you need it.
Train your staff. Make sure your staff has access to a test lab, books to read, and advanced training classes. Go to free seminars to learn more about High Availability. If you can ignore the sales pitch, they’re quite informative.
Test your staff with incident response drills and disaster scenarios. Written procedures are important, but live drills are even better to see how your staff responds. Remember, if you have a failure on a system, it could failover to another system, but you must quickly resolve the problem on the first system that failed. You could have the same issue on the other nodes in your cluster and if, that’s the case, you’re on borrowed time. Set up a scenario and test it.
Assess your current business climate, so you know what’s expected of your systems at all times. Plan for future capacity especially as you add new applications, and as hardware and traffic increase.
Revisit your overall business goals and objectives. Make sure what you intend to do with your high-availability solution is being provided. If you want faster access to the systems, is it, in fact, faster? When you have a problem, is the failover seamless? Are customers affected? You don’t want to implement a high-availability solution and have performance that gets worse. This won’t look good for you!

Do a data-flow analysis on the connections the high availability uses. You’d be surprised that damaged NICs, the wrong drivers, excessive protocols, bottlenecks, mismatched port speeds, and duplex, to name a few problems, have on the system. I’ve made significant differences in networks by simply running an analysis on the data flow on the wire and, through this analysis, have made great speed differences. A good example could be if you had old ISA-based NIC cards that only ran at 10 Mbps. If you plugged your system into a port that uses 100 Mbps, then you will only run at 10, because that’s as fast as the NIC will go. What would happen if the switch port was set to 100 Mbps and not to autonegotiate? This would create a problem because the NIC wouldn’t communicate on the network because of a mismatch in speeds. Issues like this are common on networks and could quite possibly be the reason for poor or no data flow on your network.

Monitor the services you consider essential to operation and make sure they’re always up and operational. Never assume a system will run flawlessly unless a change is implemented . . . at times, systems choke up on themselves, either by a hung thread or process. You can use network-monitoring tools like GFI, Tivoli, NetIQ, or Argent’s software solutions to monitor such services.
Assess your total cost of ownership (TCO) and see if it was all worth it.

Cost Analysis

Do a final cost analysis to check if you made the right decision. The best way to determine TCO is to go online and use a TOC calculator program that shows you TCO based on your own unique business model. Because, for the most part, all business models will be different, the best way to determine TCO is to run the calculator and figure TCO based on your own personal answers to the calculator’s questions. Here’s an example of a specific one, but many more are available to use online - just run a search in a search engine (like Google.com) on ROI/TCO calculators, and you will see them.

Testing a High Availability System

Now that you have the planning and design fundamentals down, let’s discuss the process of testing your high-availability systems. You need to assure the test is run for a long enough time, so you can get a solid sampling of how the system operates normally without stress (or activity) and how it runs with activity. Then, run a test long enough to obtain a solid baseline, so you know how your systems operate normally on a daily basis. Use that for a comparison during times of activity.

As part of our Active Directory Risk Assessment Program we perform an Operational Interview portion of the engagement. During this we talk about things we can’t really ask the machines. Such as, SLA’s, OLA’s, DR Plans and various other things that involve humans more than computers but, are a vital part to the health and risk associated with an enterprise environment. One of the things that often come up are common scenarios in your Disaster Recovery plans. This came up for one of my customers and they asked me to compile information on how to handle these common topics. The Latest Update on 5G from IEEE Communications Society

5G continues to generate buzz and grab the efforts and the attention of many of us in the Communications Technology Industry. The interest of IEEE ComSoc members is such that, for example, 7 out of the top-10 most downloaded papers in May are 5G related. The May 2014 special issue of the IEEE CTN on 5G brought our readers up to date on the current state of 5G technology. Just a few weeks later, with the rapid research progress and industry interest in the topic, an update is due. News of preliminary 5G wireless channel models, reports of 5G live network test results, renewed focus in emerging architectures, and evaluation and plans for the impact of 5G are the key topics in this update. Let’s get to the details.
The first 5G wireless channel models have been published. A group of eight partners of the METIS Task Force completed work, and published the first 'interim' 5G channel models officially accepted by the METIS community. METIS, an Integrated Project under the European Union Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) for research and development, counts as members 29 key mobile industry players and it is a major large-scale global research activity on 5G. These interim channel models were presented for the first time to the 5G technical community at the Brooklyn 5G Summit which IEEE ComSoc partnered with Ted Rappaport from NYU WIRELESS and Amitabha Ghosh from Nokia Solutions and Networks. 2-Day video recording available. Actual documentation of the models is available at METIS website and they appear to cover channel models for 2.3 GHz, 2.6 GHz, 5.25 GHz, 26.4 GHz, and 58.68 GHz.
Reported 5 Gbps speed in a 5G live test network. The benchmark came from Ericsson that reported in its website achieving 5 Gbps speed in live test of pre standard 5G, using an innovative new radio interface concept in combination with advanced Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) technology with wider bandwidths, higher frequencies and shorter transmission time intervals. As far as frequency, the 5G test network used a 15 GHz frequency band, which is higher and shorter range than current 3G/4G cellular frequencies that top out at around 2.6 GHz, i.e. 2600 MHz LTE Band 7. The choice of short-range would make deployments of this technology suitable for densely populated urban areas, where many base stations could be deployed to offer super-fast speeds over a small area.
Device-to-Device (D2D) is recognized as one of the technology components of the evolving 5G architecture. There has been much interest in applying D2D principles to public safety and proximity based services. Because of the high profile of this topic, IEEE ComSoc Communications Magazine July 2014 issue and Wireless Communications Magazine June 2014 issue feature several articles where IEEE ComSoc experts and industry leaders exciting area of D2D and has summarized its recent findings in use cases, design approaches and performance aspects. The common thread in these D2D articles is an ongoing need/interest in expanding the definition of heterogeneous cellular networks to include D2D capabilities with location, performance and capacity gains.
We are still in the early stages of defining 5G. There are different visions and a range of proposed solutions. How do we know if those visions and solutions meet the needs of millions of people and billions of connected devices? The European Commission’s Directorate-General for Communications Networks, Content, and Technology wants to learn about these unknowns issuing a 5G introduction in Europe—SMART 2014/0008 call for tenders to gather data for the Strategic Planning of 5G Introduction in Europe aim to help plan the critical phases for 5G mobile wireless systems deployment, from the research and innovation activities to infrastructure investments and prospects for early commercial developments.

اس کام کے لیے سیکیوریلی (Securely) مفت دستیاب ہے۔ اس شریڈر پروگرام سے آپ فائلوں کو اس طرح ڈیلیٹ کر سکتے ہیں کہ پھر کبھی ان کا کوئی سراغ آپ کے سسٹم سے نہیں ملے گا۔ فائلوں کو اس طرح مکمل طور پر ڈیلیٹ کرنے کے لیے اس میں چار موڈ موجود ہیں۔ جن کو اگرچہ بدلنے کی ضرورت نہیں پڑتی کیونکہ اس کا ڈیفالٹ موڈ ہی کافی ہے۔ جن فائلوں سے جان چھڑانی ہے ڈریگ کرتے ہوئے اس پر ڈراپ کر دیں، باقی کام اس پر چھوڑ دیں۔

یہ ایک کائناتی سچ ہے کہ مرد و زن میں جنس مخالف کی کشش کا قدرتی سبب انسانی فطرت میں جنسی تعلق کیلئے فطری رغبت ہے۔ سو لذتِ گناہ تک جائز یا ناجائز رسائی کیلئے بیتاب لوگ جنسی ہوس سے مجبور ہو کر گناہِ بے لذت کی راہیں تلاش کرتے رہتے ہیں۔ یہ ضروری نہیں کہ شیر چیتوں یا برفانی ریچھوں کی طرح ایسے ذی روح بھی اپنے اپنے مخصوص علاقوں ہی میں پائے جائیں۔ جنسی جنون کے مریض مشرق تا مغرب، کہیں کم کہیں زیادہ، لیکن ہر جاہ پائے جاتے ہیں۔ یہ الگ بات ہے کہ فیصل آباد میں انٹر نیٹ سے کلی نابلد ان پڑھ پینڈو کے ہاتھ کوک شاستر کی کتاب یا عریاں تصاویر سے مزین تاش کے چار یکے ہی آ جائیں تو اس کا دل بہل جاتا ہے۔ جبکہ واشنگٹن میں بیٹھا وائٹ ہاؤس کا بڈھا جرنیل انٹر نیٹ پر بیٹھا اپنی نوعمر گرل فرینڈ سے براہ راست رنگین معاشقے کا لطف اٹھا لیتا ہے۔ گذشتہ دو تین برس سے شیشے کے گھر میں بیٹھے اہلیان مغرب اوران کے روشن خیال اندھیرے حواریوں کی جانب سے پاکستانی معاشرے کو ازحد جنسی ہوس کا شکار ثابت کرنے اور کوسنے کا بے ہنگم شور جاری ہے۔ مزے کی بات یہ کہ ایسے” شریف زادوں” میں سب سے آگے یورپ کی گوری گود کی پناہ میں بیٹھے اس آنجہانی ٹھرکی بابے مرزا قادیانی کے گستاخین اسلام پیروکار ہیں جو محمدی بیگم نامی حسینہ کےعشق میں سلگ سلگ کرجیا اور سسک سسک کر جہنم کو سدھارا۔ یاد رہے کہ مغرب کے ان لاڈلے مہمان قادیانیوں کو یورپی سوشل سیکورٹی فنڈ کی مد سے اتنی بخشش مل جاتی ہے کہ یہ فکر روزگار سے کلی بے بیاز رات دن نیٹ پر بیٹھے قرآن و رسالت کی توہین اور ارض پاک کے خلاف زہر بکتے رہیں۔ امریکہ، کینیڈا اور برطانیہ سمیت تمام صلیبی ممالک میں پناہ گزین قادیانی گروہ کے فحش اور گھناؤنے کردار کے بارے سچے حقائق لکھنے والے کچھ مغربی مبصرین اور خاص طور پر وہاں مقیم مسلمان گواہ ہیں کہ قادیانی خواتین قحبہ خانون اور سیکس کلب کے کاروبار میں گوری مٹیاروں سے بھی سات ہاتھ آگے ہیں۔ ان شاتمین دین و ملت کو سیکولر خیال ادبی مسخروں، چند ننگِ دیس بلاگروں،عالم فاضل جاپانی بندروں اور کچھ دیسی مرغی ولائیتی انڈا برانڈ خنزیرخوروں کی ” خامخواہ ” میں ملنے والی غیبی کمک اور معاونت بھی حاصل ہے۔ ان کے بعد پاکستانیت اور مسلم معاشرت کے بارے من گھڑت انفارمیشن پھیلانے یا بے جا تنقید کرنے والے وہ ماد پدر آزاد روشن خیال ہیں جو مغرب پرستی میں مغرب سے آگے نکلنے کیلئے کوشاں رہتے ہیں۔ سو اپنے صلیبی آقاؤں کی مقدس تقلید ان کا فرض اولین ہے۔ مغرب کے نام نہاد مہذبین اور شاہ سے بڑھ کر شاہ کے مصاحب لبرل مسخروں کے مطابق دنیا کی عریاں ترین اور فحش خیال مخلوق بس ایک ہم پاکستانی قوم کے لوگ ہی ہیں۔ لیکن اپنی ان خود ساختہ انفارمیشنز اور بیجا الزام تراشیوں کو ثابت کرتے ہوئے یہ لوگ، دنیا بھر کے فلسفے، منطق اور دلیل کے سہروں کے ساتھ اکثر ایسی بھونڈی کوشش کر بیٹھتے ہیں جو ازخود انہیں کاذب، بدنیت اور اسلام دشمن مسخرے ثابت کر دیتی ہے۔

احباب ایسے اسلام دشمن عناصر کو پہلے بھی کچھ اہل ایمان بلاگرز حقائق کا آئینہ دکھاتے رہے ہیں۔ اس سلسلے میں ایک اردو بلاگر محمد اسد صاحب اپنے بلاگ “ بلا عنوان ” میں لکھتے ہیں۔” ایسے ہی لوگوں کی ترجمانی 13 جولائی 2010ء کو فوکس نیوز میں چھپنے والے مضمون میں سامنے آئی کہ جس میں پاکستان کو انٹرنیٹ استعمال کرنے والے ممالک میں سب سے زیادہ غیر اخلاقی الفاظ سرچ کرنے والا ملک قرار دیا۔ اس مضمون کی مصنفہ کیلی مورگن کے بقول “پاک کہلانے والا ملک دراصل ناپاک الفاظ کے سرچ کرنے والوں میں پہلے نمبر پر ہے”۔ ہمارے ساتھی بلاگر حماد ڈار کے بلاگ پر مضمون کے جواب میں تحریر شائع ہوئی جس میں فوکس نیوز کی جانب سے لگائے جانے والے الزامات کا جواب دیا گیا ہے۔ آج فوکس نیوز ڈاٹ کام پر پاکستان کے متعلق ایک مضمون شائع ہوا جس میں پاکستان کو پورنستان قرار دیتے ہوئے سرچ انجن میں غیر اخلاقی مواد ڈھونڈے والے ممالک میں سرفہرست قرار دیا گیا ہے۔ فوکس نیوز نے جن مخصوص الفاظ کی نشاندہی کی ہے، یقیناَ وہ نہ تو جعلی ہیں اور نہ ہی غلط۔ میں اس سے انکار نہیں کررہا کہ یہ الفاظ پاکستان میں سرچ نہیں کیے جاتے ہیں اور نہ ہی اس بات سےانکار ممکن ہے کہ ” پورن ” کا لفظ پاکستان میں کافی معروف ہو چکا ہے۔ لیکن میں فوکس نیوز کے اس الزام کی نفی اور سخت مذمت کرتا ہوں کہ پاکستان میں انٹرنیٹ استعمال کرنے والے دنیا بھر میں غیر اخلاقی مواد ڈھونڈنے والی اقوام میں سرفہرست ہیں۔ اس حوالے سے انہوں نے اپنی اس تحریر میں ثبوت کے طور پر کچھ لنکس بھی فراہم کئے مگر ڈھیٹ عناصر کی طرف سے ضدی حملوں کا سلسلہ وقفے وقفے سے جاری رہا۔

افسوس کہ پاکستانی قوم پر ایسے ہی بیہودہ الزامات اور خود ساختہ انفارمیشنز کا سلسلہ آج کل پھر شروع ہے۔ سو ان کی ڈس انفارمیش اورجھوٹ کا پردہ چاک کرنے کیلئے کچھ حقائق سے پردہ اٹھانے کا حق ہم بھی رکھتے ہیں۔ مغربی پریس اور مغرب پرست روشن خیال مسخروں کا کہنا ہے کہ گوگل سرچ پر سیکس اور سیکسی تصاویر تلاش کرنے والوں میں پاکستان پہلے نمبر پر ہے۔ لیکن یہ فاروق درویش نہیں بلکہ آج کی تاریخ 9 مارچ کا گوگل سرچ ٹرینڈ کا ہی رزلٹ بتا رہا ہے کہ سیکس پر مبنی مواد کی تلاش کرنے والے دس شہروں میں ٹاپ فائیو سمیت چھ سات نمبرز ہمیشہ ممبئی، چنائی، پونا، بنگلور، نیو دہلی، چندی گڑھ اور کولکتہ جیسے جدید بھارتی شہریا لندن، نیویارک اور سڈنی وغیرہ ہوتے ہیں۔ احباب یہ بات دھیان میں رہے کہ پاکستان میں بھی مغربی تہذیب کے دلدادہ مادر پدر آزاد روشن خیال بستے ہیں سو ٹاپ فائیو ممالک یا ٹاپ ٹین شہروں میں کبھی کبھار لاہور، کراچی یا اسلام آباد بھی آتے رہے ہیں لیکن ان کا نمبر ہمیشہ سیکس کرائم کے دیش بھارت اور چار پانچ بھارتی شہروں کے بعد ہی آتا ہے۔ تازہ ترین اطلاعات کے مطابق سیکس سرچ ممالک میں ( گذشتہ دو سال سے ) سری لنکا ٹاپ پر ہے۔ اس حوالے سے پاکستان کے ایک مستند اخبار کے مطابق سیکس سے متعلق سب سے زیادہ تجسس سری لنکا میں پایاجاتاہے۔ حوالے کے طور پر “ اخبار روزنامہ ایکسپریس نیوز کا یہ لنک پیش کر ہا ہوں۔ جو ہمارے روشن خیالوں کا یہ نظریہ بھی غلط ثابت کرتا ہے کہ سیکس سرچ کرنے والے صرف کم تعلیم یافتہ لوگ ہوتے ہیں، یاد دلاتا چلوں کہ سری لنکا کی تعلیمی میدان میں ترقی کا اندازہ اس بات سے لگایا جا سکتا ہے کہ وہاں شرح خواندگی سو فیصد ہے۔ سیکس سرچ کے حوالے سے تازہ ترین چارٹ کی فوٹو گراف دے رہا ہوں۔

اس لنک پر گوگل سیکس سرچ آن لائن ٹرینڈ رزلٹ کی سائٹ حاضر ہے اگر کوئی صاحب میری ان باتوں کی تصدیق اور پاکستان دشمن عناصر کے جھوٹے دعووں کا کذب ملاحظہ کرنا چاہیں تو اس سائٹ پر میپ اور لسٹ میں سے لسٹ سلیکٹ کریں اور نیچے بائیں طرف سے ملک یا شہر سلیکٹ کر کے تازہ ترین رزلٹ سے جانکاری حاصل ہو سکتی ہے۔ احباب میں آغاز میں یہ عرض کر چکا ہوں کہ جنسی رغبت انسان کی فطرت میں موجود ہے سو پاکستان میں سیکس کے بارے مواد تلاش کرنے والوں کا ہونا کوئی انوکھی بات نہیں۔ لیکن ہر بار پاکستان کے نمبر ون پوزیشن پر ہونے کا جھوٹا پراپیگنڈا کرنے والے مغربی گماشتے اپنے مغربی آقاؤں کی شیطانی تہذیب کی غلاظت آلودہ چہرے پر کیوں کر پردا دال پائیں گے۔ پاکستانی قوم کی کردار کشی میں من گھڑت ریکارڈز اور بد نیتی پرمبنی جھوٹے دعوے کرنے والے مغرب کے مامے یہ حقیقت کیسے جھٹلا پائیں گے کہ یورپ کی ہر دوسری ماں کی گود میں گناہ کی نشانی ایسا ناجائز بچہ ہوتا ہے جس کے باپ کا کوئی اتہ پتہ ہی نہیں ہوتا۔ مغربی بغل بچوں کو یاد دلاتا چلوں کہ مغربی پریس کے مطابق صرف برطانیہ میں ہی ایسے بچوں کی تعداد انتیس لاکھ اور امریکہ میں بیس لاکھ غیر شادی شدہ جوڑوں کے ہاں پیدا ہونے والے ناجائز بچوں کی تعداربرطانیہ میں اکتالیس اور امریکہ میں تنتیس فیصد ہے۔ برطانیہ میں طلاق کا تناسب اکاون اور امریکہ میں پچاس فیصد ہے۔ طلاق کی وجہ سے لاوارث ہوجانے والے بچوں کی تعداد برطانیہ میں ایک لاکھ سنتالیس ہزار ہے جبکہ امریکہ میں دس لاکھ ہے۔ مہذب مغرب کے نام لیواؤں کیلئے ڈوب مرنے کا مقام ہے کہ برطانیہ میں ایک لاکھ 75 ہزار خاندانوں میں نوے فیصد مائیں ہیں جبکہ باپوں کا تناسب صرف دس فیصد ہے۔ ان مین سے نصف خاندان انتہائی کسمپرسی کی زندگی گزارتے ہیں۔ امریکی سامراج کے غلاموں کو شاید یہ جان کر بھی شرم نہ آئے کہ امریکہ میں ایک کروڑ دس لاکھ افراد بنا کیسی شادی کے لڑکیوں کے ساتھ رہ کر ناجائز بچے پیدا کرتے ہیں۔ مذید یہ کہ ان میں سے 12لاکھ افراد اس حد تک غلاظت آلودہ اور پلید الفطرت ہیں کہ اعلانیہ ہم جنس پرست ہیں۔ خود مغربی رائٹروں کے مطابق امریکہ اور مغرب بڑی تیزی سے سیکس کی پلید ترین حالت یعنی اپنی ہی بہن، بیٹی ساتھ مبینہ جنسی تعلقات یعنی فیملی سیکس کی لعنت کا شکار ہو رہا ہے۔ مغربی تہذیب کے دلدادہ روشن خیال اور مغربی گود میں بیٹھے اسلام دشمن قادیانی زندیق مغربی تہذیب کے اس روشن خیال ملک ہالینڈ کے احوال بھی لکھیں جہاں ناجائز بچے پیدا کرنے والی ماؤں میں چالیس فیصد سے زائد اپنے ہی باپ یا بھائی کے بدترین گناہ کی نشانیاں پال رہی ہوتی ہیں۔

7 Things Holding Your Blog Back From Making Money

The question that I get asked more than ‘how can I make money blogging?’ is ‘why isn’t my blog making any money?’
And, I don’t blame you for feeling like you’ve gotten the short end of the stick.
The marketing ‘gurus’ out there said that it would be easy, that you wouldn’t have to spend a dime, and that you’d have your own fleet of luxury cars in a matter of a few weeks.
For every blog that I’ve looked at (and I’ve looked at a TON of them), there’s not been a single answer to why the blog isn’t making any money.
I can’t simply say, “oh, change your blog to THIS theme, and you’ll triple your readers, your subscriber rate, and money.” Like most things in life, it’s not that easy.
If you’re not making money from your blog, there’s a big chance that you’re making one of these seven HUGE mistakes.

1. You have the wrong toolset
Think about the master chef: before they even get started, they have their tools laid out and within easy reach. The business blogger, even before creating their blog, needs to have several items in place: a way of generating solid leads, a killer sales funnel, and a method of content distribution.
Having those right tools in your toolbelt will save not only time and money, but it will save hours and hours of frustration.
Finding tools and learning how to outsource freed up my time and alleviated some of the frustration. In the beginning, I was spending a LOT of time writing my own material, performing niche analysis, creating lead pages, and more.
Here are 10 tools that have immensely lowered my stress and blogging frustration.
Some of these great tools do cost money, money which ‘m happy to pay because it frees up my time to do other things. This brings me to the next mistake that people make when they try to make money blogging.

2. You’re not willing to spend money on your blog
The myth in the business blogging world is that you don’t have to spend any money to get the profits. After all, you can get yourself a blog for free from one of many sites, and then all you have to do is write about whatever you want, right?
If only it were that easy.
There are get rich quick marketing systems out there which say that all you have to do is pay a few paltry dollars and have the only traffic generation system that you need.
While I’ll be doing a report on the real cost of business blogging in the future, let me just say that money’s necessary to get the sales. What business doesn’t have at least a nominal monthly investment?

There are three places where spending money will enhance your site:
Back End – These are the systems that you have in place for your blog, including hosting, an autoresponder, a lead-capture system, and plugins.

Content – Content is important. While you are perfectly capable of creating content, you might want to create a video or something that is out of your wheelhouse.

Distribution – This is marketing, including advertising, link building, and other arenas. SEO is extremely important to the rise of your site.

3. You’ve been given bad information
One of the first things that I did when I got an interest in making money blogging was to do a search for ‘how do I make money blogging?’ on Google. The first page of Google gave you around ten organic entries and at least three paid ads. Most likely, each of those entries gives you part of the puzzle about how a blog should be run.
Combine all of the information together, and you have vast conflicts. Some blogs will say that you should put all of your time into social media. Other blogs will tell you that you really need to hammer the SEO. Still others will teach you link building techniques which may or may not be viable.
When you’re new at this, the only way that you can find out whether you’ve gotten good information is to test it, and that takes time. Some techniques will outright get you banned on Google, and some will be the key that unlocks the key to vast amounts of traffic and sales. It can still get to be extremely frustrating to sift through all of the advice.

4. You’re impatient
Impatience has been deadly to more blogs than I can count. Basically, the owner sets up a blog, excited by the get rich quick visions that the marketers have been feeding us all these years, puts everything in place, and nothing happens. Absolutely nothing happens. There are no sales, no visitors, no nothing.
And, after a few months of not making any significant headway in the traffic department or any of the other departments, it’s tempting to give up. Most folks don’t realize that just a few changes can mean all the difference between an underperforming 90% blog and a 10% making enough to live off of blog.
Success isn’t going to happen overnight. It’s not going to happen in the blink of an eye. Droves and droves of clients and customers aren’t going to come streaming to your blog just because you put up a blog in the first place. You’ve got to give this thing around six full months of effort, produce great content, and otherwise keep on top of it.

5. You don’t have a solid plan
Having a plan is the crux of your operation. Having a plan and sticking to it. A lot of people who are new to making money from their blogs don’t realize that they need to have a plan in place for it to work. What I’ve found is that the more detailed the roadmap for success, the more chance that the success will happen.
Planning starts with the decision to make your blog into a business and a money-making operation. Once that is in place, then you can build the social media platforms around it, the methods that you are going to advertise, the content pages in your killer sales funnel, and other tactics which are designed to make you money.
Maybe your plan is to make money through having an online store of goodies. Do you have the plan in place ready to advertise them? Do you know what you’re going to do with those products, whether you’re going to create your own? What about your demographics? Who are you going to target with your goods and services?
The planning process that you go through should be fairly comprehensive. And, the plan can be molded to suit your company’s needs. It can adapt to when a new piece of software comes to the market. It can still be implemented when other things happen. One of the things that my one-on-one counseling does is help you create a rock-solid blueprint for success on your own blog.

6. You don’t have guidance
I was lucky when I first started this. I had someone who stepped right in to guide me along the road, telling me what information was good and what didn’t work. I didn’t have to do as much testing as some have to do. When I started talking with John, though, I was nearly at the end of my rope. It had worn on me.
Mentors will provide you with guidance, but they won’t actually do the work for you. They’ll be happy to weigh in on what’s necessary. What they’ll also do is help you hash out a rock-solid blueprint of how to make money with your blog. With all luck, that person has been where you are.
Now, I completely understand if you’re shy. You don’t have to get a specific person to guide you into making money online. You can take a few moments and join a LinkedIn group which is dedicated to success and ask questions there.
You could also take a course about affiliate marketing which is recommended by someone you trust. Nothing is stopping you from receiving guidance if you’re willing to receive it.

7. Your product isn’t right for the target market
While you might be trying to discover the next steps for your breakout market, there are some ideas which likely won’t work. It takes a really savvy marketer to sell ice to the Eskimos or SEO services to an SEO marketer.
One of the biggest parts of my best-selling Profit Blogging Blueprint Program revolves around keyword research and intimately knowing the target niche, but there are some times where even the best marketers in the world call it wrong.
I’m not going to lie to you and tell you that making money blogging is the easiest thing in the world that you’re going to do. There’s a lot of hard work involved, and it requires a lot of patience, persistence, planning and passion.
Once the building blocks are in place and you’ve corrected any major mistakes that you’ve been making, it should be smooth sailing to make money on your blog.

Human “microchipping”: getting under your skin

Thousands of technology enthusiasts use it as the ultimate app, enabling them to lock and unlock their homes, cars, computers and mobile phones with a simple wave of a hand. But there’s a catch: they must have a microchip inserted into their bodies.
The idea may seem weird, and painful, but human microchipping appears to appeal not only to amateurs, who call themselves biohackers, but also to governments, police forces, medical authorities and security companies.
It involves using a hypodermic needle to inject an RFID (radio-frequency identification) microchip, the size of a grain of rice, usually into the person’s hand or wrist. The same kind of chip is used for tracking lost pets.
The implants send a unique ID number that can be used to activate devices such as phones and locks, and can link to databases containing limitless information, including personal details such as names, addresses and health records.
RFID chips are everywhere. Basically, if you have to swipe a card, your ID is encoded in the magnetic stripe. If you touch it to a reader, as with Myki, it has an RFID chip with your number on it linked to the relevant database with your info on it. The latest credit cards have both stripe and RFID.
Some RFID tags have a tiny battery or other power source, enabling them to operate at hundreds of metres so they don’t need to be within line of sight of a reader. As far as we know, this type cannot yet be made small enough to embed in humans.
Cybernetics scientist Dr Mark Gasson of the University of Reading, in Britain, became the first human to be infected with a computer virus, after he injected himself with a microchip in 2009 to control electronic devices in his office.
The virus was replicated on the swipecards of staff accessing his building and infected the university’s database. Nonetheless, Gasson and other scientists say a new world with mass populations of computerised people is imminent and inevitable.
They say complex computing devices routinely implanted into humans for medical reasons also have the technology to enhance the abilities of healthy people.
“It has the potential to change the very essence of what it is to be human,” Gasson says. “It’s not possible to interact in society today in any meaningful way, without having a mobile phone. I think human implants will go along a similar route. It will be such a disadvantage not to have the implant that it will essentially not be optional.”
Last year the line between man and machine became even more blurred, when Stanford University announced its scientists had created the first purely biological transistor that was made entirely of genetic material.
Stanford assistant professor of bioengineering, Dr Drew Endy, described the breakthrough as the final component needed for a biological computer that can operate within living cells and reprogram living systems.
Kevin Warwick, a professor of cybernetics at Reading University, has an electronic device in his body that interfaces with his nervous system, and had a simpler version implanted into the arm of his wife. Rudimentary signals between the two proved that purely electronic communication is possible between two human nervous systems.
Warwick’s chipped arm allows him to use it via a computer link to operate a robot arm on another continent. The robot arm will mimic whatever hand and arm movements he makes with his natural arm. But the link with his wife’s nervous system is so rudimentary that he says he can only tell if she moves her arm.
Melbourne internet entrepreneur and free software activist Jonathan Oxley injected himself with a microchip in 2004, after obtaining the same kit that vets use for family pets. His Twitter account describes him as a cyborg in progress.
Oxley uses it to operate house locks and his computer, and says that after a decade inside his body the implant has caused no ill effects. “Now it’s just like any other part of me. I don’t even think about it,” he says.
The idea of electronic implants becoming widespread in humans concerns Dr Katina Michael, an associate professor at the University of Wollongong, who specialises in the socio-ethical implications of emerging technologies.
“RFID microchips are essentially a unique ID embedded in your body, and, as we know, numbers can be stolen and data can be hacked. Bringing one’s external computer problems into the human body is fraught with dangers ” she says. “They point to an uber-surveillance society that is big brother on the inside looking out. Governments or large corporations would have the ability to track people’s actions and movements, categorise them into different socio-economic, political, racial, religious or consumer groups and ultimately even control them.”
Michael worries about people being forced or coerced into having one, something she says is likely to have already happened. “It’s such a concern that at least nine US states so far have banned forced microchip implants,” she says.
In 2007 a company called VeriChip injected 200 Alzheimer’s patients, many of them incapacitated, with microchips linked to their healthcare records. The patients were supplied by a Florida nursing home that benefited from the company’s sponsorship.
A furore erupted after it was discovered that VeriChip conducted the study without obtaining the required approval from Florida’s Institutional Review Board, which oversees the protection of human subjects in research.
Mexico’s attorney general and senior members of his staff have been implanted with VeriChips to give them access to secure areas of their headquarters, and the country’s military and police are reportedly next in line for chipping.
VeriChip distributor Solusat has also announced an agreement with Mexico’s National Foundation for the Investigation of Lost and Kidnapped Children, to promote the microchipping of the country’s children.
How the chips could help is uncertain, as they do not have GPS tracking technology.
The VeriChip company has now changed its name under a barrage of negative publicity and has emerged as a developer of what it calls “biological detection systems”.
Other companies are also marketing microchip implants, and their researchers are working hard to integrate them with GPS technology. When they succeed, the products are forecast to gain a huge international market.
Opponents of the idea are fighting back. “Technology of this kind is easily abusive of personal privacy,” says Lee Tien, of the Electronic Frontier Foundation. “If a kid is trackable, do you want others to be able to track your kid? It’s a double-edged sword.”

The sales funnel is the first step in making $100 a day with your blog.
You have to have a sales funnel put in place, or else you will not get as many sales, or not get any sales at all for your great products.
The funnel is the road to riches because it provides a convenient path for your website visitors to purchase your goods and services.

What is a sales funnel?
Simply put, a sales funnel is a step-by-step plan that converts visitors into buyers.
What you’re doing is leading them through a series of actions which ultimately end up in your first sale with a customer.
In order to understand the concept, imagine a physical funnel, like the kind you use to put oil in your car. It starts wide at the top and slants in to a small hole, right?
The purpose of the funnel is clear: It catches all the oil you pour into it and directs it to one desired location, right where you want all that oil to be.
The same works with a sales funnel. The purpose is to catch all your blog traffic and direct all those new readers to the place you want them to be—buying your latest product.
The funnel itself must be set up so that your visitors go from one step to the next, wanting and craving the next thing that you have to offer.
Think about your sales funnel as the foundation of your website.

Even though my seven page funnel is highly effective, it’s not the only way to make a funnel. There are many places where your site could be discovered, and your visitor have the opportunity to enter your sales funnel.

Five Possible Entry Points for Your Sales Funnel
1. Landing Pages
Landing pages are aptly named, because this is where your customers ‘land’ when they find your site from other sites. They are generally the first introduction to your goods and services and should provide very direct instructions to tell your customers what they need to be doing.
This is where you get your customers intrigued and make the huge promises that you can keep. Your landing pages are an integral part of a successful product launch.

2. Review Pages
This is a tactic that a lot of affiliate marketers use. You see, visitors have a lot of questions about the products that you’re selling. They have probably heard a lot about one product, and they want to see how your product compares to the products that they’ve heard of.
Many successful bloggers use review pages to get the attention of the search engines and drive organic search results. You would place a thorough, well thought out review on a landing page, then have the next page be the sales page for that product.

3. Blog posts
In my post about the differences between professional bloggers and hobby bloggers, I talked about how professional bloggers create internal links within their posts. The biggest reason for this interconnection between the posts is that the professional bloggers want to keep you on their site for a little bit longer.
They know that if you are traveling from page to page within the site, you have a higher likelihood of purchasing something from them.

4. Widgets
If you look along the side of this blog post, you’ll notice that there are several offers and opportunities to opt-in to the sales funnel that has been set up. The more experienced professional bloggers will have multiple products and create several high-converting sales funnels at the same time.

5. Blog Headers and Footers
Quite often, you’ll see one of the opt-in offers at the very beginning of the blog within the header. This comes before the blog posts and before anything else. This touch point is actually in one of the most visible areas, just to entice visitors to step into the sales funnel.

Here’s how to create a high-converting sales funnel in five steps
Step One: Create Your Free Offer
As soon as your product is ready to sell, create another product as your free offer. Free offers are part and parcel of the experience of providing for your customer.
Why?
Because your customer will value the product that you have and increase the pay product’s perceived worth in their mind.
Every customer wants to receive value from their purchases.
The free product that you produce should be as good or better than the product that you’re trying to sell.
The reason for this is that the customer will put a perceived value on what you’re trying to sell based on the value of the free product. They will think, ‘Oh! That white paper that I got from X had great information, I bet that their paid product will give me the same type of value.’
By now, you should have learned how to pinpoint a highly profitable niche. With that knowledge of your niche, the next step is to create a free product. Free doesn’t mean cheap or valueless. You want your free offer to be so valuable and helpful to your audience that they’ll willingly follow the funnel down to your ultimate goal—your paid product.
Once you have both your product and your free offer ready to go, the second step in your funnel is to get your audience to opt-in for the freebie.

Step Two: Craft Your Opt-In
Think of your opt-in as the widest part of your funnel. This is where you want to catch as many people as possible. This is where you make your initial offer.
The whole purpose of the opt-in is to get people to get your freebie, nothing more. Give your reader as much information as you can while still being simple and to the point.
This is not the place to write page upon page of copy. You want to outline and heighten the value of what your customer will be receiving. You want to prove the fact that you are willing to work for that email address. The goal is to remove any obstacles and objections that your audience might have.
Your advertising and your efforts should be directed to a landing page on your blog, the one where you potentially receive most of your traffic.
Make sure that you have the automation in place to deliver the freebie to your audience as soon as possible. Delays might damage and discourage your viewer from wanting to take it to the next step, which is the actual sale.

Step Three: Advertise Your Product
Since your freebie was packed with value, your visitors will begin to trust that you can provide good products to them. They will gradually become curious about your other products which are available to them. What’s next in the sales funnel? Advertising.

How do you advertise your product?
• Focus on the benefits of your product. You have studied your site’s demographics and made an effort to understand them. You know what their pain points are, so you are able to advertise on the basis of those pain points.
• Demonstrate your credentials and credibility. You are just as much a part of your company as the products that you’re selling. People will purchase products based on your personality and your credentials. Make it easy to learn more about yourself so that your visitors can trust you.
• Give as many details as possible. Make sure that you are as up-front and honest about the product that you can be. Your readers will purchase from you once if you are dishonest, but they will purchase from you for a lifetime if you are honest.

Step Four: Offer Your Up-Sell
Now, you might just be getting the hang of having a freebie and a single product. That’s good that you’re taking it that far. One of the secrets of the high-end bloggers is that they have more premium products to be sold after the initial sale
This upsell puts more value on the package, giving even more things to the visitor. You’ll see this tactic on many sites.
The upsell is a more premium package. So, if you have a book that you’re selling, you can put a series of videos or CDs with it.
Since these are delivered digitally, it can be sent to you almost immediately. The masters of this art might have an array of products that they are upselling to you.
• Make sure that the purchaser knows that the upsell is optional. They’ve got the original product and that isn’t going to change.

Step Five: Express Your Thanks
Reaffirm the great decision that your customer has made by purchasing from you. The thank you page is going to be the most important page that you’ve got to establish and maintain the relationship that you have with your customer. It’s a way to strengthen the bonds that you have as well as making you look good for future promotions.
You also have a chance to advise your customer of the other products which they might receive, add some free bonuses, or otherwise make your case absolutely compelling to your reader. Your thanks can make or break future sales.

The most successful phone ever, the Nokia 3310 is going to be re-made by Nokia.
Initially launched in 2000, Nokia sold more than 125 million units of its original Nokia 3310 handset.
Now, the remake of Nokia 3310 will result into a similar design comprising of three inch screen, but with altogether different internals. Nokia 3310 will run on a dual-core processor, 2GB RAM and 32GB of on-board storage into a case that mimics the original size (113 x 48 x 22mm) and weight (133g).
Nokia 3310 will boost a 41MP PureView camera with Zeiss optics and Xenon flash, and will run a modified version of Windows 8 to fit ‘ClearDiamond’ three-inch touch screen.
Three ‘soft-touch’ navigation keys still feature a Windows Phone ‘home’ button has been introduced to you straight back to the Start Screen.
Nokia 3310 will come with LiveTiles and App Folders. MS Office, Xbox Games, Outlook and OneDrive that offers 7GB free cloud storage out of the box will come pre-installed.
Phone will feature original monophonic ringtones.
okia 3310 will be available in classic metallic dark blue, yellow, blue, red and green.
Phone will be available in few weeks with 3G connectivity, while another version that will support LTE will be launched later this year. Pricing details are unknown yet.

Battery offers 30-second phone charging

The demo showed off a much larger battery than could eventually be incorporated in phones

A battery that can charge in under 30 seconds has been shown off at a technology conference in Tel Aviv.

Israeli start-up StoreDot displayed the device - made of biological structures - at Microsoft's Think Next Conference.
A Samsung S4 smartphone went from a dead battery to full power in 26 seconds in the demonstration.
The battery is currently only a prototype and the firm predicts it will take three years to become a commercially viable product.
In the demonstration, a battery pack the size of a cigarette packet was attached to a smartphone.
"We think we can integrate a battery into a smartphone within a year and have a commercially ready device in three years," founder Dr Dorn Myersdorf told the BBC.
The bio-organic battery utilises tiny self-assembling nano-crystals that were first identified in research being done into Alzheimer's disease at Tel Aviv University 10 years ago.
The nano-dots are described by StoreDot as "stable, robust spheres" that are 2.1 nanometers in diameter and made up of peptide molecules.
The technology has a range of uses, founder Dr Myersdorf said.
"Batteries are just one of the industries we can disrupt with this new material. It is new physics, new chemistry, a new approach to devices," he said.
The team has also used the nano-crystals in memory chips which could write three times faster than traditional flash memory and as a non-toxic alternative to cadmium in screens.
Dr Myersdorf said that the batteries are likely to be 30 to 40% more expensive to manufacture compared to traditional ones and the final product will be twice as expensive than those on the market today.
But making them should be a relatively easy process.
"It is about letting nature take its course. We just need a facility that can do chemical processing," he said.
