The ethics of sperm donation - A BioNews commentary by John Milbank

The ethics of sperm donation
A BioNews commentary by John Milbank, Centre of Theology & Philosophy, University of Nottingham, UK
19 June 2009. http://www.bionews.org.uk/commentary.lasso?storyid=4407

"Should donators of sperm remain anonymous? Some people say yes, others say no. But most assume that the argument is in principle resolvable if we can apply the right principles in relation to accurate evidence.

Bee stings in kids

Kids are smart enough to avoid wasps, bees, snakes, scorpions, and most venomous creatures. But every once in a while, a run in with a bee occurs. Usually, there is no real call for alarm, other than to soothe the surprise and sting. While most kids aren’t allergic, there are some things to watch out for and do if your child is stung.

 1. Look for the stinger, a black dot right in the center of the sting. If it’s there, remove it as soon as possible, using a tweezers, or even the flat end of a credit card to pull it out like a splinter. Wash the wound with soap and water.

Is a child a want or a need or a biological imperative? (re: donor conception/surrogacy/adoption)

There was a note worthy exchange between Theresa M. Erickson, Attorney (www.EricksonLaw.net) and Ian Robinson (President of the Rationalist Society of Australia http://www.rationalist.com.au/office.htm) on Theresa Erickson's blog on Proud Parenting (http://www.proudparenting.com/node/3160#comments)

Specifically:
**THERESA ERICKSON wrote in her post:
“We understand that the need for a child is not a want or a need, it is a biological imperative!” states Theresa M. Erickson, Attorney.

**IAN ROBINSON responded in the comment section:

Grieving: Paris, Prince, and Blanket viewed their father's body

Matt Lauer visited Neverland Ranch for an interview with Michael Jackson's older brother Jermaine on the Today show.

The most interesting part of the interview was the discussion about a viewing of the body by Michael's children.

msnbc.com reports: Jermaine explains that a hospital therapist thought it best that Prince, Paris and Blanket see their father's dead body so they could understand what had happened.

Dad's Guide to Raising Kids - Teaching Children Table Manners

Teaching table manners to toddlers may seem like a futile endeavor when you can’t even get them to sit still at the table. However, it has been observed that spoons and forks tend to give toddlers a ‘handle’ on the situation and eventually orient their attention properly towards their meals.

The introduction of table manners at an early age is essential and the implements with which you introduce your children to a proper eating experience will go a long way in making it all possible. So start off by buying the right kind of cutlery.

Make sure to buy:

July 1, 2009

Today marks the first day that unmarried or same sex couples can file to be designated beneficiaries in the state of Colorado. Thanks to our legislature and governor, we can now receive a number of important rights to grant to the person of our choice including:

Property transfer

Designated beneficiary for life insurance, trusts, pension plans, and retirement plans

Hospital visitation

Medical decisions

Organ donations

Workman's comp benefits.

Chron.com does a great job profiling a delightful family in Sugar Land - a suburb of Houston.

Austin and Bill [fathers of Ava, 7, and Elijah, 6] met at an Oakland [CA] health club in 2002. Austin tells Chron that "the two fell into domestication almost immediately and in April 2004 made it official with a domestic partnership".
