Among the city’s cultural attractions are the Harry S. Truman Presidential Library, the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art and the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art and Design. The Kansas City Museum, located in a mansion on Gladstone Boulevard, has a planetarium and exhibits that trace KC’s history from trading post days to the present. In the 18th & Vine historic district, the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum and the American Jazz Museum are housed in a new, 50,000-square-foot building. Kansas City has more fountains than any city except Rome; from small to huge, comical to classical, simple to elaborate sculpture, KC’s varied fountains may be its greatest cultural attraction. Penn Valley Park hosts the KC Jazz festival each July, Spirit Fest in August and the KC symphony’s Radio Days Concert on Labor Day.

Memorial Day is almost here! For many people that means a much needed extra long weekend! Many establishments, businesses, and offices around Kansas City will be closed so that employees can take the day to recognize, honor, and celebrate the amazing work of  U.S. soldiers and the sacrifices that they have made throughout the history of this great nation.

Province of Briarcliff will be taking part in the recognition of this national holiday, as our office will be closed on Monday, May 28. Normal office hours will resume on Tuesday, May 29. Until then, take the day to honor our soldiers, and enjoy your extra day off!

Great ways to redecorate your bedroom!

Have you had the same old bedroom for years? Is it getting old and boring? Well, you probably need to spruce it up a little! It’s not hard to change your bedroom around, you just need some easy redecorating ideas! Here are a couple of great tips that will liven up your bedroom and make it feel like new, courtesy of Apartment Ratings:

Step One: Clear Out the Clutter

Clutter tends to accumulate faster than you expect, and can make any room feel crowded and dingy. Sometimes sprucing up your bedroom is as simple as clearing the clutter out. Beyond any regularly scheduled bedroom cleaning you do, schedule in decluttering sessions every month or so. Toss or donate any items that are unnecessary or that have begun to accumulate. Your room will look better afterward.

Step Two: Switch Up Your Wall Decor

If you live in an apartment that allows you to paint, think about changing out the color on one or more of the walls. If you’re one of those people living in an apartment that will not allow you to paint, thinking about adding some color and life through wall art instead.

It doesn’t have to be expensive and you don’t have to be an expert artist to make something interesting to hang on your walls. You can buy several inexpensive canvases from an art store. Using either oil or acrylic paint (acrylic will dry faster), paint the canvases different complementary colors that go with your overall bedroom color scheme. You can be as creative as you like. Hang the canvases as a cluster above your bed or over your desk. It’s a simple way to add more visual interest to your room and spruce up your decor.

Step Three: Change Your Bed Linens

The blanket or comforter on your bed is likely the focus of your bedroom. The remainder of your bedroom decor was likely planned around your bed linens. You can easily spruce up your decor by finding something new to put on your bed. It’ll give your room a whole new look. You can also add in different sizes and types of pillows—or minimize them if you already have a few.

Step Four: Add In a New Accessory or Two

Just like a wardrobe, a bedroom is most easily spruced up by switching out some accessories. Accessories don’t break the bank, yet they can create a completely different look. If you’re wanting to spruce up your bedroom decor, think about purchasing a new bedside lamp or rug for the floor. Placing some new frames on your bookshelf or placing a funky new pillow on reading chair in the corner all add nice new touches to the space.

Looking for a fun getaway around Kansas City? Why not enjoy the great outdoors. You don’t have to travel far, as some of the best outdoor activities are right here in Missouri. My favorite thing to do outdoors is to go hiking. If  you enjoy hiking, or want to give it a try, you should head out to one of the great hiking trails in Missouri. The beautiful views, wildlife, and more will be something that you won’t ever forget.

1. KATY TRAIL (225 miles, from Clinton to Columbia)

This hiking and bicycling path is one of the largest rails-to-trails conversions in the United States. The trail takes hikers and bicyclists to breath-taking view of the Missouri River, along bluffs and through quaint river towns.

This state park offers 10 major hiking trails, ranging in length from one to six miles. The one-mile Coakley Hollow Trail in the Ozarks Caverns part of the state park leads hikers through the woods to a beautiful view of Lake of the Ozarks.

3. HA HA TONKA STATE PARK (trail system near Osage Beach, Mo.)

Trails lead hikers to the spring and the steep bluffs that overlooks it, to a castle built in the early 1990s and to the Devil’s Kitchen with its natural amphitheatre.

4. WESTON BEND STATE PARK (trail system near Weston, Mo.)

This state park includes trails for hikers of all skill levels. Trails cut through beautiful forests and climb to scenic overlooks of the Missouri River.

5. BURR OAK WOODS CONSERVATION AREA (trail system in Blue Springs)

The five trails in this suburban setting give metropolitan residents a chance to explore the outdoors. The 1.33-mile-long Bethany Falls Trail winds through huge boulders and scenic rocky outcroppings.

6. OZARK TRAIL (550-mile trail from St. Louis area into northern Arkansas)

This trail winds southwest from the St. Louis area through some of the Ozarks’ most beautiful terrain. It eventually connects with the Ozarks Highlands Trail, creating a 700-mile trail system.
